1122 - Chapter 48.1
Yan Nanchen went above and beyond to care for Jiang Yi during his pregnancy. Not only did he read numerous books on the subject and consult various obstetric experts, but he also frequently sought advice from his elder brother about how Jiang Yi had been during his previous pregnancy.
“Well, he wasn’t picky. I just made sure to avoid anything with strong or pungent flavors. Aside from really bad morning sickness, Jiang Yi was fine back then. We even snuck out occasionally to play.”
Chu Beiheng was halfway through his sentence when Jiang Yi shot him a murderous glare. He quickly changed tack, grinning. “Played table games to vent emotions.”
Yan Nanchen easily caught the forced cover-up and sighed, turning to Jiang Yi. “You went out to play pool while pregnant?”
Jiang Yi guiltily averted his gaze.
“And bowling. And clubbing,” Chu Beiheng added, deciding to go all out as he whispered the last part into Yan Nanchen’s ear.
Jiang Yi’s eyes widened, and he stood abruptly. “Chu Beiheng, that’s enough.” He cracked his knuckles threateningly.
“See? He even hits people,” Chu Beiheng said, swiftly ducking behind Yan Nanchen. He rested his hands on his brother’s shoulders and smirked at Jiang Yi. “Nanchen, let me tell you, he was so moody during his pregnancy, always throwing tantrums.”
“I was not!” Jiang Yi scowled. “Puppy, don’t believe him. You have to trust me.”
“Nanchen’s my brother, of course he’ll believe me.”
“Yan Nanchen is my husband!”
Yan Nanchen had originally intended to ask Chu Beiheng for advice, but now the two were bickering again. He sighed, brushing Chu Beiheng’s hands off before walking over to Jiang Yi. Gently massaging the back of his neck, he coaxed softly, “You’re pregnant, no arguing. Of course I believe you.”
Jiang Yi’s lips curled smugly as he shot Chu Beiheng a triumphant look.
Chu Beiheng shrugged nonchalantly. “Must be nice having a husband to back you up.”
He plopped back onto the sofa, pulling out his phone to scroll through photos of his favorite idol. “Nanchen, let me put it this way when I was taking care of Jiang Yi, he never showed any vulnerability or acted spoiled in front of me. He acted like he was carrying Nezha and had a body of steel. But with you? Oh, he’ll definitely be clingy, you’re his Alpha, after all. So my experience isn’t much help. You’d be better off asking our model brother-in-law, Duan Yizhou, the ultimate 24/7 devoted husband.”
“I’m not that bad,” Jiang Yi muttered under his breath, then recalled how he’d clung to Yan Nanchen for cuddles after morning sickness just that morning. His argument didn’t hold much weight.
He peeked cautiously at Yan Nanchen, only to meet his warm gaze head-on. His ears flushed red with embarrassment.
Yan Nanchen chuckled fondly, ruffling Jiang Yi’s hair. “It’s fine. I’m confident I can take good care of you.”
“Of course you can. You’re the best.”
Chu Beiheng watched the sickeningly sweet display with a pained expression before shaking his head and standing. “I’m done talking to you two. You’re just rubbing it in.”
Must be nice being married.
Yan Nanchen and Jiang Yi exchanged a glance and smiled.
During the early stages of his pregnancy, Jiang Yi did indeed suffer from severe morning sickness so much so that he couldn’t keep anything down. Yan Nanchen was at his wit’s end; even with a private chef at home, nothing seemed to help.
Because of this, Jiang Yi didn’t gain weight instead, he grew thinner.
At night, he often suffered from cramps, waking up startled each time and finding it hard to fall back asleep. The only thing he could do was make Jiang Yi a cup of milk and then hold him, coaxing him back to sleep.
Pregnancy was proving far more difficult than he had imagined.
Especially seeing how much Jiang Yi was suffering just three months in unhappy with whatever he ate, vomiting daily, plagued by cramps and drowsiness, yet still stubbornly insisting on returning to work at the group.
Even when uncomfortable, he remained so obstinate.
What could he do but indulge him? He made frequent trips to Jiang Yi’s office to massage his feet, easing the discomfort from prolonged sitting. Fortunately, Jiang Yi had promised to rest at home after the second trimester, and he, too, would clear his schedule to accompany him wholeheartedly, ensuring he wouldn’t be alone.
In the office,
“Are the strawberries sweet?”
Jiang Yi sat sideways in his chair, holding a bowl of strawberries Yan Nanchen had washed for him, his legs propped up on Yan Nanchen’s lap as the man sat on a small stool in front of him. Hearing the question, he picked up a strawberry and held it to Yan Nanchen’s lips, popping one into his own mouth as well. “Sweet,” he mumbled.
Then, watching Yan Nanchen such a tall man perched on that tiny stool, he couldn’t help but laugh.
Yan Nanchen rolled up Jiang Yi’s trousers, revealing his pale ankles, and accepted the strawberry Jiang Yi offered. With practiced hands, he began massaging Jiang Yi’s calves. “Did you feel unwell during the meeting earlier?”
“No. You know I rarely feel uncomfortable during regular work.”
“I know, but I still worry. It’s not like I can just sit in on Neptune’s internal meetings, can I?” Yan Nanchen chuckled helplessly, his gaze dropping to Jiang Yi’s legs. Perhaps because he had differentiated into an Omega, all his body hair had shed, leaving his skin smooth and flawless.
The black socks accentuated the fairness of his legs, and paired with Chelsea boots Yan Nanchen could never get enough of the sight, utterly enamored.
If only it weren’t so perverse to admit.
As he massaged, he suddenly felt Jiang Yi shift his legs slightly, followed by a soft laugh.
“Your touch is too light. It tickles.” Jiang Yi squirmed, trying to pull his legs back.
But before he could, Yan Nanchen’s hand closed around the back of his knee, gently guiding his leg back into place. Then, he pressed a warm kiss to Jiang Yi’s kneecap, his eyes glinting with affection.
Leaning down, Yan Nanchen kissed Jiang Yi’s knee once more before looking up at him, his gaze brimming with tenderness. “I didn’t want to hurt you.”
Jiang Yi fidgeted under the attention, his ears turning pink. He adjusted his glasses, avoiding Yan Nanchen’s eyes to hide his flustered expression. “Then just do what feels right to you.”
He was finding it harder and harder to resist this gentler version of Yan Nanchen.
This Alpha was growing more tender by the day.
“Why so shy?” Yan Nanchen noticed Jiang Yi’s reddening ears and smirked, leaning closer to peer up at him. “Jiang Yi, I’ve noticed you’ve been blushing a lot more since getting pregnant.”
Before, Jiang Yi had rarely been this easily flustered.
Well, except in bed, there, he had no reservations whatsoever.
“Nonsense.” Jiang Yi reached up to touch his burning ears, feigning ignorance. “My ears aren’t red.”
Yan Nanchen burst out laughing. “I never said they were.”
Jiang Yi scowled. “…”
Yan Nanchen found Jiang Yi utterly adorable like this. So this was how Jiang Yi acted when pregnant so cute, even coquettish with him. How wonderful. He lowered his head and kissed Jiang Yi’s calf again. “It’s fine, I love you like this too. You’re perfect no matter what.”
“Someone might knock and see us. That wouldn’t look good,” Jiang Yi thought to himself, wondering why Yan Nanchen loved kissing him everywhere so much.
Yan Nanchen continued massaging his leg. “So what if they see? You’re the president’s wife. What’s wrong with the president pampering his beloved? That deserves praise.”
Jiang Yi laughed at his self-praise. “You’re quite self-aware.”
“The Alphas in our family have always been conscientious.”
Unable to resist, Jiang Yi reached out and ruffled Yan Nanchen’s hair. “So well-behaved.”
“Then can I have a kiss as a reward?” Yan Nanchen raised an eyebrow with a playful smile.
Jiang Yi leaned down, pinched Yan Nanchen’s chin, and drew closer, his eyes glinting with amusement behind his glasses. “Of course.”
With that, he kissed him.
Sunlight streamed through the window, casting a glow over them, a scene so beautiful it felt surreal.
Before long, he entered the second trimester.
His condition was much better than during his previous pregnancy, both physically and emotionally. With Yan Nanchen putting all work aside to stay by his side, the unwavering devotion filled him with unprecedented joy.
During this period, heightened by pregnancy hormones, his desires grew stronger.
