1122 - Chapter 11.1
Jiang Yi sat in the reception hall of the Yan family villa.
“We already know about what happened between you and Nanchen. As his father and as his family, we strongly condemn his deceitful behavior. I sincerely apologize to you, it was my failure to properly discipline my child, and I’ve let you suffer unjustly.”
Jiang Yi looked at the elegant omega before him, who bore an almost identical resemblance to Chairman Luo. This was Yan Nanchen’s omega father, one of the most enigmatic chairmen of Galaxy Group and an internationally renowned violinist, Chu Guzhi.
He had known that being invited here wouldn’t be as simple as just paying a visit. He had expected a family like Yan Nanchen’s to see him as nothing more than trouble perhaps they would try to brush him off or even threaten him to leave.
So when he heard that they were apologizing to him on Yan Nanchen’s behalf, he was surprised.
But that didn’t mean anything.
“You’re also pregnant, aren’t you?”
Meeting the questioning gaze of Yan Nanchen’s father, Jiang Yi didn’t bother hiding it. After all, investigating him would be child’s play for a family like this. “Yes, six weeks.”
Were they going to ask him to terminate the pregnancy? Or have him keep it?
“Have you been feeling particularly tired lately?” Chu Guzhi asked as if making casual conversation, pouring Jiang Yi a cup of tea. But then, remembering that pregnant individuals shouldn’t drink tea, he turned to his eldest son. “Beiheng, go prepare a bowl of snow pear and silver ear soup for Jiang Yi.”
Chu Beiheng, who was always at his father’s beck and call, resignedly nodded. “Got it, Dad.”
With that, he turned and headed toward the kitchen.
Jiang Yi: “…” Wait, why did the atmosphere suddenly feel a little strange?
“In our family, an Alpha’s partner is not allowed in the kitchen. They must be capable of taking care of the household, only by managing a small home can they manage a larger one. Cooking is the most basic skill our Alphas must have.” Perhaps noticing Jiang Yi’s confusion, Chu Guzhi explained as he set down the teapot. “Nanchen can cook too, right?”
Jiang Yi fell silent for a moment before answering.
Of course he knew Yan Nanchen could cook and not just a little. He could make desserts, delicious meals, anything Jiang Yi wanted to eat.
“But none of that matters when it’s built on lies. No matter how attentive he was, no matter how well he took care of me, the fact remains that he deceived me. Those are two separate things.”
“Then tell me how you’d like to resolve this.”
“I want to leave.”
Chu Guzhi considered Jiang Yi’s decision for a moment before nodding. He looked at Jiang Yi and said, “I can make sure he never finds you.”
“He might not even look for me.”
“No, he wants you.”
Jiang Yi was slightly embarrassed by Yan Nanchen’s father’s response. Was this an attempt to reconcile them? Absolutely not. He folded his hands on his lap and lowered his gaze. “Even if he wants me, it’s not happening.”
“I understand. That’s why I can ensure he never finds you. This suffering is something he must endure. I had thought that growing up in a family like ours would shape him into a responsible and dependable Alpha, but he has disappointed me deeply. Not only did he deceive your feelings, but he also marked you under false pretenses and got you pregnant. If his First Dad finds out about this, breaking his legs would be the least of his worries.”
Jiang Yi’s lashes trembled slightly as he looked up in shock. “Break his legs?”
“Do you know why his First Dad isn’t here today?”
“Why?” Jiang Yi suddenly had a foreboding feeling.
“After his First Dad found out about this, he beat him up first. He’s in the hospital now.”
Jiang Yi: “…”
Chu Guzhi picked up his teacup, took a sip, and said nonchalantly, “Don’t worry, the leg-breaking scene won’t be missing. Once he catches his breath in the hospital, I’ll tell his granduncle about it.”
Jiang Yi silently lowered his head, tactfully touching his cup as his Adam’s apple bobbed. So ruthless but it did sound somewhat satisfying.
“If you want to leave, that’s no problem. I’ll handle everything here so you can leave without any worries. But if you do leave, what about your parents.”
“My parents are both gone.”
Chu Guzhi frowned, his eyes filled with deeper pity for the young man before him. No wonder Lawyer Yan wanted to beat Yan Nanchen, he felt like doing it himself too. How could they have raised such a scoundrel?
The more he thought about it, the more his heart ached.
“Child, don’t worry. Tell me where you want to live, and I’ll make sure you can leave without any concerns. How about M Country? Beiheng is studying there, I can have him look after you.”
Just then, Chu Beiheng walked in carrying a bowl of pear soup with rock sugar. He placed it beside Jiang Yi and sat down next to him.
“Great, I’m just a tool now.”
Jiang Yi stared at the dessert in front of him: “…”
Why did it feel like he was being neatly arranged under this family’s watchful eyes?
“About the child,” Chu Guzhi said solemnly to Jiang Yi, “you’re still very young. It’s completely understandable if you don’t want to keep it. This isn’t something any of us have the right to interfere in not even Yan Nanchen himself. Just inform him of your decision.”
“I told him. I’m not keeping the child,” Jiang Yi said.
Chu Guzhi nodded. “Good, just let him know. We respect your choice.”
“But I want to keep it.” Jiang Yi met the surprised gaze of Yan Nanchen’s father and said calmly, “Not for him for myself. Because only by keeping this child can I live.”
“This world is too wonderful to give up my life over someone who deceived me. That wouldn’t be worth it.”
“So this child is mine alone. The father stays out of it, in the future, the child will take my surname, Jiang.”
As soon as he finished speaking, Jiang Yi’s arm was playfully punched by Chu Beiheng beside him. He shot an annoyed, questioning look, only to find Chu Beiheng gazing at him with admiration.
“Bro, that’s so cool!” Chu Beiheng clenched his fist, punching Jiang Yi’s arm like a buddy before slinging an arm over his shoulders and grinning at his father. “Don’t worry, Dad. From now on, Jiang Yi’s my bro. I’ll take care of him, I’ll be his big brother from here on out.”
Jiang Yi glanced at the arm draped over his shoulder, then at Chu Beiheng. “I’m twenty-six. Older than you.”
Chu Beiheng quickly withdrew his hand, adaptable as ever, flashing a bright, handsome smile. “No big deal. Then I’ll be your little brother.”
Ahem. Chu Guzhi coughed a warning from across the table.
Chu Beiheng: “?”
“No poaching your brother’s love interests,” Chu Guzhi said sternly.
Chu Beiheng: “…” He just thought it was awesome that someone could put Yan Nanchen in his place. Pure admiration, that’s all.
Jiang Yi: “…” This family wasn’t quite what he had imagined their enthusiasm was somewhat unexpected. Was Yan Nanchen really not adopted?
He glanced at Chu Beiheng. If not for the fact that they were twins, he would have seriously suspected Yan Nanchen was picked up from somewhere.
Chu Beiheng noticed Jiang Yi stealing glances at him and instinctively hugged himself, shifting slightly away in caution. “Even though my brother and I look alike, don’t go projecting your feelings onto me.”
Jiang Yi smiled. “Who says I won’t use you as a stand-in to vent my frustrations?”
Chu Beiheng: “…”
“Take care of me, what if I feel like hitting someone?”
Chu Beiheng: “…” He hesitantly lowered his arms, giving Jiang Yi a conflicted look. “You don’t seem like that kind of person.”
“I bite.” Jiang Yi grinned.
Chu Beiheng: “…” His arms immediately wrapped around himself again. Maybe he had been too hasty in his judgment. He then turned a pleading gaze toward his father, silently begging to be excused from this responsibility.
“If you decide to keep this child, no matter what, the baby still carries our family’s bloodline. Let Beiheng take care of you, I trust him the most. He may seem careless, but he’s actually quite attentive. Since he plans to complete his Ph.D. in the U.S. before returning, it’s perfect for him to stay by your side.”
Chu Beiheng forced a stiff smile at his father, his eyes screaming in protest. Don’t do this to me, I might actually wake up one night to find a knife at my throat.
“I don’t necessarily have to go to the U.S.,” Jiang Yi said after some thought.
“I understand you might not want any further ties to our family, but Jiang Yi, you have to consider your current situation. You’ve just undergone secondary differentiation into an Omega, and you’re pregnant. Without an Alpha nearby, you’re in real danger. Please, for your own safety, accept this as our apology, alright?”
Jiang Yi fell into thought. This was indeed his biggest concern his options were limited.
If he left alone, Yan Nanchen’s influence would make it easy to track him down. But under the protection of Yan Nanchen’s family? Yan Nanchen wouldn’t be able to find him so easily.
