You Should’ve Said Earlier that you’re Such a Little Flirt! - Chapter 51
The tears came as unexpectedly and noticeably as a sudden thunderstorm, making them somewhat difficult to handle.
Most of the time, Lin Konglu maintained a cold and restrained demeanor.
Even after being together for so long, and despite the occasional glimpses of softness Lin Konglu revealed, deep-rooted impressions are hard to change. In Xu Qingqiong’s heart, Lin Konglu remained much like she was when they first met: half-indifferent and half-distant, essentially someone without much emotional volatility.
So, Xu Qingqiong never expected her to cry.
She clearly had such a cold and elegant face, yet when she cried, she was unexpectedly fragile. The redness at the corners of her eyes spread even before the tears did; the tears fell silently and rapidly, wetting her eyelashes like a flower drenched by rain.
This left Xu Qingqiong momentarily stunned. In an instant, the image she had previously constructed of Lin Konglu seemed to crumble.
Yet, there was something about it that felt predictably fitting. Her sixth sense told her that this was right—this was exactly who Lin Konglu was.
She stood frozen in place, subconsciously loosening her grip.
In reality, Lin Konglu was slightly stronger than her and could have easily held her back. But now that Xu Qingqiong had relaxed her strength, Lin Konglu followed suit, indicating that she hadn’t been using force at all.
However, despite loosening her grip, Lin Konglu still held onto her wrist, refusing to let go.
Lin Konglu quickly wiped away her tears and whispered, “I’m sorry.”
This apology was for her sudden outburst of tears.
Xu Qingqiong hadn’t wanted to hear the previous “I’m sorry,” but this current one made her feel a bit distressed. The emotions in her heart were quietly dampened.
Lin Konglu felt immense frustration with herself. She shouldn’t have cried in front of Xu Qingqiong; she still remembered that Xu Qingqiong didn’t like her being this way.
Over the years, she seemed to have changed a lot on the surface, but in reality, she was still a terrible person, unable to control her own emotions.
She turned her head away, her voice carrying a hint of a sob. “Can you give me a moment?”
“Just ten minutes.”
“…” Xu Qingqiong nodded somewhat blankly, then quickly responded, “Okay.”
She prepared to withdraw her hand to give Lin Konglu some space, but sensing her intention to leave, Lin Konglu gripped her wrist tightly again, not letting her pull away.
Xu Qingqiong let out a confused “Hmm?”
Lin Konglu looked at her, as if seeking confirmation: “Don’t leave.”
Xu Qingqiong: “…Okay.”
Only then did Lin Konglu release her wrist and walk quickly to the bathroom to compose herself. But before closing the door, she gave her an uneasy glance, seemingly making sure she really wasn’t going to leave.
Xu Qingqiong had originally wanted to find space to quiet her own thoughts, but now she was left alone. She sat back down on the sofa, the scene from moments ago looping in her mind. She subconsciously wondered: Was my tone too harsh?
Why did Lin Konglu cry?
Sitting on the sofa, she couldn’t quite understand it and pursed her lips.
In her memory, she had never made a girl cry before. They were clearly in the middle of a fight, but the sudden tears seemed to make everything impossible to explain clearly.
Tears are often a weapon, but only to those who care about you. To those who don’t care, tears only invite disgust and resentment.
Xu Qingqiong didn’t like crying because she felt it was useless.
Especially toward someone like Ye Jianguo; he was essentially a selfish person, and crying in front of him was nothing more than exposing one’s weaknesses. As for her grandmother, she wouldn’t cry because she didn’t want her to worry. The more emotional she felt, the more she would pretend to be calm.
Before she could think it through, Lin Konglu had already finished composed herself and emerged from the bathroom, sitting down opposite her.
Xu Qingqiong reined in her thoughts and shifted her focus back to Lin Konglu.
The atmosphere between them was much calmer—or rather, Xu Qingqiong’s emotions had leveled out. The standoff from before had been largely extinguished by the tears.
There were no longer any traces of crying on Lin Konglu’s face; her expression was calm, save for a slight physiological redness at the corners of her eyes that hadn’t yet faded.
If she hadn’t witnessed the crying firsthand, Xu Qingqiong would never have believed she had wept.
A flash of insight struck her; Xu Qingqiong felt this look was familiar, as if she had seen it somewhere before.
But before she could think deeper, Lin Konglu began to speak. Though her voice had carried a sob just minutes ago, she had now regained her usual manner—reserved and cold.
It was as if everything Xu Qingqiong had just seen was a hallucination.
Lin Konglu had organized her emotions, trying her best not to let her true feelings leak out.
“I’m sorry.”
Xu Qingqiong was somewhat puzzled. “Hm?”
After a moment of silence, Lin Konglu spoke, “Sister, it’s not that I don’t want to tell you.”
“I don’t want to lie to you.”
“I’m just a little afraid… I just don’t quite know how to say it.”
Her tone of voice was perfectly normal, yet for some reason, Xu Qingqiong sensed a hint of grievance in it.
This strange thought popped into her head, giving Xu Qingqiong a start.
Afraid? This word surprised her even more.
Just like the unexpected tears from a moment ago, she felt that this word didn’t suit Lin Konglu at all, and she certainly never expected it to come out of Lin Konglu’s mouth.
Xu Qingqiong realized there was a flaw in her own way of thinking and said with some confusion, “But you have to tell me first…” so that I can understand.
When a problem arises, it should be solved, not avoided.
However, seeing the lingering redness at the corners of Lin Konglu’s eyes, she didn’t finish her sentence and swallowed the rest of her words.
Everyone has different experiences, personalities, and concerns. She didn’t know what Lin Konglu was thinking and couldn’t generalize Lin Konglu’s thoughts based on her own.
Xu Qingqiong took a deep breath; Lin Konglu’s tears had already calmed her down.
She had been too agitated just now.
Having gone through that moment, Lin Konglu had also mostly regained her composure. She hesitated for a second, then stood up and took out the letters kept in the cabinet.
Those letters had been sitting in the cabinet all this time, untouched by anyone.
Xu Qingqiong watched her with uncertainty, not understanding why she was suddenly bringing out these letters.
But when Lin Konglu placed the letters in front of her, a strange emotion welled up in her heart.
Xu Qingqiong frowned and asked in confusion, “Why are you taking these out?”
Aren’t these the letters Grandma left for me?
But before she could finish her sentence, the remaining words died on her lips. As she lowered her gaze, her eyes suddenly locked onto a specific spot on the envelope—she saw the sender’s name written on the letter:
— Lin Konglu.
Lin Konglu?!
Those three familiar characters made her brain nearly come to a halt. It took a long time before Xu Qingqiong could laboriously discern the truth from the shocking facts.
So, these letters weren’t left for her by her grandmother—they were written to her by Lin Konglu??
