You Should’ve Said Earlier that you’re Such a Little Flirt! - Chapter 49
Lin Konglu looked at her with concern, “Are you feeling unwell?”
Xu Qingqiong wasn’t physically unwell; she just felt a profound sense of unease, her mind a chaotic mess.
Actually, she had thought a lot along the way. Regardless of the circumstances, refusing to communicate was the worst possible move—the “cold shoulder” never solved anything.
While the video existed, Lin Shuhai was clearly acting with malice. Under what circumstances was that video filmed? And why did Lin Shuhai want her to see it?
Between Lin Shuhai and Lin Konglu, she naturally trusted Lin Konglu more.
But how could the video be explained? The video was real, and those words had come directly out of Lin Konglu’s mouth.
She had envisioned many scenarios, the worst being that Lin Konglu was speaking her true heart in that video.
When she thought about it carefully, Lin Konglu had never actually said she liked her. Those supposedly lingering, affectionate glances were perhaps just her own wishful thinking. Lin Konglu was just pretending, just deceiving her; those kisses and hugs were merely tools used to achieve her own goals.
Regardless, she had to ask Lin Konglu herself.
Furthermore, she had promised she wouldn’t make Lin Konglu wait too long…
Xu Qingqiong struggled to suppress her emotions. Avoiding the other’s gaze, she replied, “It’s nothing. I just have a bit of a headache. It’s not serious; let’s watch the show first.”
She didn’t want to bring her dark mood into this. This was a date they had planned a week in advance, and she didn’t want to waste it.
Besides, she really wanted to see this music festival. It would be a shame to miss the opportunity by spending the whole time in a state of depression.
The venue had two side stages and one main stage.
While equipment was being tuned on the main stage, singers were performing on the side stages, allowing the audience to choose what to watch.
A band stepped onto the main stage. When the lead singer held the microphone and gave a smiling “Hello” to the crowd, it immediately triggered screams from the surrounding fans.
Xu Qingqiong’s mind had been elsewhere until now, and she suddenly realized that she and Lin Konglu were standing in an awkward spot.
The casual passersby were all standing in the back to listen, showing little interest in this high-traffic band.
Only the fans were squeezed at the front. Many of them were quite young, in their early twenties, wearing matching colored fan shirts. Some held large flags printed with the band’s name, while others held colorful fan merchandise.
The two of them were surrounded by a group of young girls, looking entirely out of place.
Xu Qingqiong glanced around, wanting to leave and find a different spot.
However, the equipment on stage was already set. The lead singer held the mic and the band began warming up the crowd, preparing to perform their first song. Suddenly, more fans rushed over, and the two were hemmed in; trying to leave now would mean pushing against the tide of the crowd.
Soon, the first song ended.
The lead singer spoke into the microphone, “Thank you all so much for coming to see us today. Next up is a game segment—does everyone want to participate?”
A roar of cheers erupted from the crowd.
“Now, let the cameraman sweep the lens over the audience. We will randomly select two fans.”
As soon as the words were spoken, the camera scouted through the crowd several times before suddenly finding its target and freezing.
Then, Xu Qingqiong saw her own face and Lin Konglu’s face on the screen.
The director had their own criteria when switching shots, usually favoring those with high visual appeal. Standing in the crowd, the two of them were like cranes among chickens—extremely prominent.
Thus, after a quick sweep, the broadcast frame stopped precisely on their faces.
Surrounded by fans, all eyes instantly converged on them.
Staff members had already hurried over and, without a second thought, reached through the crowd to hand them a microphone.
Xu Qingqiong was stunned for a moment. Lacking both the mood and the energy, she waved her hand to signal her refusal.
The majority of people standing at the front were fans; the staff hadn’t expected to pick out “passersby” so accurately, let alone someone unwilling to appear on camera.
The staff member persisted: “It’s just a very short interaction segment, and there are signed photos as gifts afterward.”
Lin Konglu glanced sideways at Xu Qingqiong, handed the microphone back, and said firmly, “I’m sorry, we don’t want to.”
“It really is very short, just two or three minutes. It’s no big deal, come on.” The staff member tried to persuade them to accept; otherwise, they would have to re-select people for the interaction, requiring another trip through the crowd.
When Lin Konglu wasn’t showing any expression, she looked cold—her aura icy, like a pool of frozen water. Her voice wavered with a chilling tone as she repeated, “I’m sorry.”
“…” The staff member accidentally looked directly into her eyes and instantly swallowed the words they were about to say. “My apologies.” They then contacted the director via radio to select someone else.
Xu Qingqiong had been forcing herself to hold it together, but seeing Lin Konglu’s profile now, the scene from the video flashed through her mind again.
The two images suddenly merged.
The Lin Konglu in that video was the exact same Lin Konglu standing beside her.
Her temples throbbed with pain, and her chest felt tight, as if she couldn’t catch her breath.
She had overestimated herself after all.
Lin Konglu was constantly monitoring her expression. The frozen look on her face softened instantly as she reached out to support her. “What’s wrong?”
Xu Qingqiong stared at her fixedly for a few seconds before abruptly averting her gaze and changing the subject. “I’m hungry. Let’s go eat first.”
Because the nearby roads were congested, the two gave up on driving. They left the car in a nearby parking lot and took the subway to find dinner.
Moving slowly with the flow of the crowd, they entered the subway.
The subway car swayed gently. It was crowded, and the two were standing very close, yet the atmosphere was exceptionally strange—permeated by a silent chill.
To prevent anyone from accidentally bumping into her, Lin Konglu thoughtfully stood on the outer side, placing one arm behind Xu Qingqiong’s back to shield her.
However, because of Xu Qingqiong’s earlier resistance, Lin Konglu’s hand didn’t stay close to her. Instead, she maintained a short distance, holding her in an empty, slightly awkward embrace.
The glass reflected their shadows; Lin Konglu stood beside her like a clumsy teddy bear.
On the way here, Xu Qingqiong had clearly made up her mind, thinking the worst possible outcome was merely a divorce.
But now, she was suddenly very sad. She had planned everything so well, yet never expected it to turn into such a terrible day.
There was a small item in Lin Konglu’s hand—a gift from a stall owner. It was a white crocheted bellflower charm, shaped like a snowy trumpet, resembling a string of cute, lifelike little bells.
There was a small pin on the back of the charm.
Lin Konglu pinned it onto Xu Qingqiong’s sleeve, a smile on her face as she said softly, “Does it look good?”
Xu Qingqiong read her expression. Lin Konglu was at a loss because of her behavior; Lin Konglu wanted her to be happy.
To the silent sound of the subway rushing through the tunnel, Xu Qingqiong looked up at her and said nothing.
A few seconds later, amidst the silence, the smile on Lin Konglu’s face faded. She looked even more unsettled, her expression a mix of confusion and panic. “What is it?”
Xu Qingqiong pursed her lips and said in a flat voice, “I want to talk to you.”
