You Should’ve Said Earlier that you’re Such a Little Flirt! - Chapter 29
Stepping out of the bar, Xu Qingqiong finally felt like she could breathe again.
She didn’t really want to head back just yet, so she walked aimlessly for a few hundred meters until she stumbled upon a familiar-looking library.
The exterior wall was encircled by a thin band of shimmering golden lights, acting like a waistline for the entire structure. The design was ingenious—a fusion of various elements where modern trends and ancient simplicity intersected, yet it didn’t feel cluttered at all.
Xu Qingqiong used to come here often as a child. Back then, it wasn’t this large; the expansion hadn’t happened yet. It was just a small, two-story square building.
She reached for her phone, intending to take a photo.
Touching her pocket, she froze. It was empty.
She didn’t like carrying bags when she went out. Her jeans pockets only held tissues and a lip glaze; she preferred to keep things as simple as possible.
She had checked the time on her phone while at the bar, so she must have left it there.
However, when she returned and stood outside the private booth, ready to push the door open, she heard Cong Yun’s voice drifting out. It was muffled, letting out a low cry: “Master.”
Xu Qingqiong: “…”
Xu Qingqiong’s scalp went numb. She suddenly felt that the phone wasn’t worth it anymore. She couldn’t imagine what kind of scene she would walk into if she pushed that door open.
Married people really play hard!
She went to the front desk to borrow a pen and paper, leaving a message for Cong Yun to bring her phone back for her.
It was her first time at a bar, and it was indeed quite chaotic—mostly because of the crowds, which made her uncomfortable. She still preferred being alone.
Without her phone, she had no way to tell the time, so Xu Qingqiong had no choice but to stroll back slowly.
The only saving grace was that the bar was only about three kilometers away, so it wasn’t like she couldn’t find her way home.
The moonlight was beautiful tonight. When people are bored, their minds tend to wander into wild imaginings.
Ever since she went abroad in her teens, she seemed to have always been lonely. Consequently, she often entertained herself; she could have a great time even when she was just by herself.
But no matter how much a person enjoys solitude, there is an instinctive craving to communicate with others. So, she had forced herself to cultivate some hobbies, like playing games or chatting during live streams.
After a whirlwind of random thoughts, her mind circled back to Lin Konglu.
She thought that being with Lin Konglu was quite happy—a kind of burden-free happiness.
Even though Lin Konglu was a “closed jar,” had a cold face, didn’t like to talk, and occasionally got angry…
But, but… she actually didn’t think those were flaws; they were just her personality. Some people are passionate, others are cold; everyone is different.
And Lin Konglu had many strengths. She was beautiful, attentive, and very skilled…
As someone who was good at self-persuasion, Xu Qingqiong wondered why she was angry at Lin Konglu’s behavior. Was it because they had spent too much time together and her expectations for Lin Konglu had increased?
After all, a few months ago when they first met, Lin Konglu had made her sign a contract without explaining anything, and she had accepted it then. So why was it unacceptable now?
Before she could figure it out, the warm air enveloped her skin and she felt a bit tired. She found a bench and sat down to rest.
Her head felt inexplicably dizzy. Xu Qingqiong suddenly craved ice cream. Her gaze swept over the flashing sign of a nearby fast-food restaurant, but then she remembered she didn’t have her phone and couldn’t buy anything.
Her mood plummeted instantly. She plucked a leaf from the roadside greenery and twirled it in her hand, feeling angry at herself for not being able to eat ice cream.
She didn’t know the common saying: The wine has no proof, but the wind is 104-proof.
When you blow in the wind after drinking, blood circulation slows down, making it very easy to get drunk.
Xu Qingqiong realized she might be a little tipsy. Although her mind was still somewhat clear, the alcohol amplified her emotions. Grievance became ten times the grievance; anger became ten times the anger.
Thus, by the time Lin Konglu found her, Xu Qingqiong’s thoughts were hazy. Sitting on the bench and looking up at her, her face was flushed and she looked utterly wronged. Her first words were: “I want to eat ice cream.”
Lin Konglu had sent her messages with no reply and called her with no answer. She had been terrified that something had happened to her, or that she simply didn’t want to pick up.
Rushing to find her after work, seeing Xu Qingqiong sitting safely on the roadside bench made Lin Konglu breathe a sigh of relief, but also made her feel angry. “Why didn’t you answer the phone?”
Xu Qingqiong didn’t want to listen to her. She only wanted to eat ice cream. Looking at her, she said, “I didn’t want to answer.”
Lin Konglu grew angrier. But five minutes later, Lin Konglu emerged from the shop with a soft-serve cone in her hand and handed it to her.
Xu Qingqiong took it and took a bite. The cold smoothness slid down her throat. “Thank you. Once my phone is found tomorrow, I’ll definitely answer your call.”
Lin Konglu frowned and touched her clearly flushed face. “Did you drink?”
Xu Qingqiong shook her head. “No.”
She added, “I just drank a little bit of a sweet alcoholic beverage. Just a little.” It just happened to have a high alcohol content.
Lin Konglu: “…”
Lin Konglu didn’t want to argue about this and told her to get in the car.
Once inside, seeing that the car window was open, Xu Qingqiong leaned down to pull on her seatbelt and noticed the smell in the car was slightly different—there was a strange minty scent.
Her eyes caught sight of a small square box in the storage compartment.
After seeing clearly what it was, her gaze fixed. She asked Lin Konglu, “Did you smoke?”
Lin Konglu was clearly stunned for a moment and tried to hide it.
But Xu Qingqiong had already reached out to pick up the small box. Seeing it was a brand of ladies’ cigarettes, she asked, “Are you under a lot of pressure?”
Lin Konglu had never smoked in front of her; she certainly didn’t have an addiction. It was likely just something she did occasionally to relieve stress.
Xu Qingqiong asked a lethal question: “Is it because I make you feel pressured?”
The words escaped her mouth without a second thought.
Lin Konglu’s movements froze because of that sentence.
Before Lin Konglu could answer, Xu Qingqiong pulled a cigarette from the pack. The cigarette was long and thin. She held it clumsily between her fingertips and gestured, “Is it like this?”
Then she picked up the lighter. With a click, a flame flickered, and the cigarette was lit.
Xu Qingqiong had never smoked before. She took a reckless drag on the filter, and Lin Konglu didn’t even have time to stop her.
As expected, she was choked by the smoke. She wrinkled her face unpleasantly, quickly extinguished the cigarette, threw it into the car’s trash bag, and said bluntly, “Don’t smoke in the future. The smell of smoke is so annoying.”
As she spoke, she remembered something and leaned in to sniff Lin Konglu.
Lin Konglu was startled by her sudden movement.
Xu Qingqiong straightened back up. She hadn’t actually smelled anything strange; there was only a faint, elegant scent of perfume.
But Xu Qingqiong was currently acting like a petty tyrant. She took out her frustrations on her narrow-mindedly, shouting, “You’re annoying too!”
As soon as she said it, Lin Konglu’s hands tightened on the steering wheel, her eyes looking a bit hurt.
Xu Qingqiong muttered in a low voice: “You don’t talk to me.”
“You don’t explain to me.”
“So I don’t want to talk to you either.” Her voice trailed off despondently.
She was acting like a child now, drawing a “no-man’s-land” line between herself and Lin Konglu.
Lin Konglu: “I’m sorry.”
Xu Qingqiong glanced at her and said bluntly, “I don’t want to hear it. You’re saying it too late. Why didn’t you say it yesterday?”
She pivoted and made a demand: “I want to eat a chocolate cone. Buy one for me.”
Her topics were jumping too fast now; Lin Konglu could hardly keep up: “…”
Lin Konglu tried to reason with her, saying softly, “You’ve already eaten one. Having another will give you a stomachache.”
Xu Qingqiong stared at her stubbornly, looking as though she wouldn’t rest until she got that chocolate cone.
After a few minutes, seeing that she wouldn’t budge, Xu Qingqiong turned her head coldly to look out the window. She crossed her arms, refusing to speak to her again, starting another bout of sulking.
The car started, and the atmosphere fell silent again.
Lin Konglu felt even more helpless against this version of Xu Qingqiong; she felt a sense of powerlessness, not knowing where to begin.
They finally made it home and the car stopped.
Xu Qingqiong was still brooding over the refusal to buy the chocolate cone. She looked at Lin Konglu warily, not wanting to get out of the car with her.
Lin Konglu knew she wasn’t very sober right now. This time, she gave up on reasoning and took her hand, wanting to hug her.
But Xu Qingqiong dodged quickly, pulling her hand back and saying seriously: “Don’t hug me. Don’t hold my hand.”
“You don’t even like me.”
Lin Konglu went silent at those words. Even though she knew she was dealing with a drunkard, she still countered. Her expression tightened slightly, and her tone became serious: “I like you, Qingqiong.”
Xu Qingqiong frowned, not believing her at all. She said unceremoniously, “You’re lying to me. You won’t even buy me ice cream.”
Lin Konglu: “…”
Lin Konglu had no choice but to go along with it: “We have some at home. There’s a lot in the fridge.”
Xu Qingqiong’s trust level wasn’t high enough; she was skeptical: “Really?”
“Really,” Lin Konglu coaxed her. “Get out of the car and come home with me. You’ll see for yourself.”
Only then did Xu Qingqiong reluctantly get out of the car.
But in the elevator, Xu Qingqiong suddenly said: “I know there’s no ice cream in the fridge at home. You’re lying to me.”
Lin Konglu startled, her grip on Xu Qingqiong’s hand tightening.
Then she heard her say: “But I’m willing to go home with you.”
Seeing Lin Konglu didn’t speak, she changed the subject and continued: “I also truly wanted to marry you, even without that agreement.” She added with a touch of reserve, “Though only a little bit wanted to, not a lot.”
She pursed her lips and said with some annoyance: “…I didn’t lie to you or hide things from you, so I don’t want you to lie or hide things from me either.”
“But if you really don’t want to say it, then forget it.” She lowered her eyelashes. “Anyway, I won’t be angry in a few days. I’ll comfort myself…”
Lin Konglu’s heart wavered. “Qingqiong…”
“And even if you lie to me… I’ll still go home with you.” She added with a sudden tone of pride, “I’m not a petty person who holds grudges.”
The elevator chimed and opened slowly, then quickly began to close again because it didn’t sense anyone.
Xu Qingqiong leaned her back against the elevator wall, looking at her with some confusion.
Because Lin Konglu had suddenly pulled her into a forceful hug. The distance between them vanished instantly; they were intimate, their body heat meeting through their clothes.
They were of similar height. Lin Konglu buried her head in the crook of her neck, her arms tightly around her waist.
Even with her hazy drunkenness, Xu Qingqiong felt warm teardrops falling one by one onto her neck, making her tremble from the heat of them.
Xu Qingqiong felt a heavy, aching soreness in her heart. She frowned, gently stroking Lin Konglu’s hair, and asked blankly: “Why are you crying?”
