You Should’ve Said Earlier that you’re Such a Little Flirt! - Chapter 22
Wen Lanjing had planned everything before coming, but faced with such a direct inquiry, she hesitated.
Lin Konglu might not necessarily agree to her request.
Gritting her teeth, she lowered her expectations by half and spoke: “Five hundred thousand.”
This video was of no use to her anyway; it would be better to use it to owe someone a favor. Lin Konglu certainly wouldn’t lack five hundred thousand, so the probability of her agreeing was high.
To her surprise, Lin Konglu arched an eyebrow after hearing this, her tone carry a hint of a smile. “Five hundred thousand… is that enough?”
Unsure of what Lin Konglu meant, Wen Lanjing’s heart skipped a beat. She remained guarded and didn’t respond.
“I have a better suggestion.” Lin Konglu crossed her hands, a faint curl appearing on her lips. “Ms. Wen might want to hear it.”
“Have you considered suing him for domestic violence during the marriage?”
Wen Lanjing froze for a moment. She hadn’t expected this. Recovering her senses, she gave a bitter laugh. “Of course I have.”
“But domestic violence within a marriage only qualifies as a criminal case in particularly severe circumstances. I’ve consulted people before and thought about reporting it to the police, but in my situation, even if I did, it would result in a fine and detention at most. Getting a divorce is very difficult.”
“If I can’t get a divorce…” She lowered her head, cupping the water glass with both hands and staring at the translucent ice cubes floating inside. Her tone was bitter. “Then suing is useless. Ye Jianguo would only become more aggressive. It’s better to do what I did before—just endure it for now.”
Lin Konglu asked again: “Did Ye Jianguo sign a prenuptial property agreement with you?”
Wen Lanjing didn’t know why she was asking, but after thinking carefully, she shook her head. “No.”
Ye Jianguo didn’t actually understand those things. To put it bluntly, the man was empty-headed; he just had a deceptive appearance. He looked refined and cultured on the surface, but inside he was a talentless straw man.
Wen Lanjing had seen through him months ago.
“But I guess you don’t have much money in your hands right now, and Ye Jianguo probably hasn’t given you any real estate or stocks, right?”
Wen Lanjing nodded. She only had two sets of jewelry.
Lin Konglu continued: “If you divorce now, the marriage has been too short. The assets under Ye Jianguo’s name wouldn’t be considered communal marital property.”
“If the prosecution goes smoothly later, Ye Jianguo should be sentenced to life imprisonment. Being sentenced to life during a marriage constitutes a major fault within the marriage, making a divorce easy—but the compensation you could get would be limited.”
Lin Konglu looked into her eyes. Her tone was flat, but the content of her words was highly provocative. “But is that how it ends? Shouldn’t you receive more compensation for the physical injuries and mental trauma you suffered?”
Wen Lanjing subconsciously tightened her grip on the glass. Meeting Lin Konglu’s eyes, she was startled by the coldness within them and quickly looked away, her throat feeling dry. “Then… what should I do?”
“I want you to sue him for domestic violence and infidelity after he is imprisoned, to gain greater rights over the disposal of assets and compensation.”
“The real estate under his name, plus cash and the factory, is roughly estimated to be around 3.5 million.”
Lin Konglu looked at her and asked, “Is that enough?”
Wen Lanjing was startled by the amount. For a moment, her heart rate quickened. Under Lin Konglu’s gaze, she nodded. “Okay.”
If she had really taken money from Lin Konglu and Xu Qingqiong, she would have felt a bit uneasy. But if she took Ye Jianguo’s money as compensation, she would feel much more at peace.
Lin Konglu took the disk from her hand and put it in her bag, preparing to dial Lawyer Chen’s number.
“Thank you.” Wen Lanjing hesitated for a moment, then said, “But I would still like to see Miss Xu once…”
Lin Konglu stopped her movements. The smile on her face faded, and her finger tapped lightly on the table. Her expression quietly turned wary. “Why?”
The fundamental difference between her and Xu Qingqiong was that even if Xu Qingqiong acted cold on the surface, she wouldn’t assume people were bad; she possessed an inherent goodwill toward others.
But Lin Konglu was different. She would assume a person was bad to lower her psychological expectations and prepare for the worst, maintaining hostility toward everyone.
Under her oppressive gaze, Wen Lanjing’s voice became hesitant. “Ms. Xu Jiawei should have left some things for her.”
“Among them should be some manuscript designs for the art museum. I don’t understand them, but after Ye Jianguo found them in the safe and wanted to throw them away as trash, I secretly kept them.”
“In addition, there seem to be some letters.”
