You Like The Smart Ones? You Should Have Said So Sooner! - Chapter 11
Chapter 11: The Recording
Qin Mian’s voice was chilly. “Why waste so many words? We’ll just beat them into submission.”
The confrontation between the two classes was like a powder keg waiting to explode.
“Qin Mian, go for it!” “Blow past them!” “Cao Wei, what are you doing?! Move!” “Jiang Feng, you’re the man! Get ’em!”
The spectators on both sides refused to yield an inch in momentum. The Class 3 defense was solid; Cao Wei and the others were being marked tightly. Qin Mian had no choice but to take the ball himself and break through. Facing his defender, he sold a fake, then suddenly burst toward the basket with a three-step layup, successfully sending the ball through the hoop.
“Dammit, stay on Qin Mian,” Jiang Feng said to his teammates, his face darkening.
During the next play, Qin Mian clearly felt the opposing team playing dirty. If it hadn’t been for his quick reflexes, he might have been tripped up several times. Just as he was thinking this, a heavy “thud” echoed behind him.
Qin Mian turned to see Yu Canxing sprawled on the ground. He was face-down, his expression contorted in pain—it was clear he had taken a nasty fall.
“Yu Canxing!”
Ye Jun lunged past his defender, joining Qin Mian as they carefully tried to help Yu Canxing up.
“……Don’t, don’t move… don’t touch me…” Yu Canxing was in so much pain he couldn’t move, the words squeezed out through gritted teeth. His knees had hit the ground first, taking a direct impact; he felt as if his knees didn’t belong to him anymore. Fck, this hurts like a bitch!*
Qin Mian frowned. “Can you stand?”
Yu Canxing paused to breathe, then gave a very reluctant nod.
Ye Jun had been standing by with a dark face, saying nothing. Suddenly, amid the surrounding noise, Qin Mian saw Ye Jun grab someone by the collar and deliver a swift punch to their face.
Yu Canxing: ! He hurriedly nudged the person beside him. “Crap, Qin Mian, make him stop!”
Cao Wei had already rushed over to break it up. “Hey, hey! Jun-er! Jun-er! Calm down! Calm down! Don’t hit him!”
“I saw him stick his leg out to trip him with my own eyes,” Ye Jun said, his voice low and dangerous.
The person who had just taken the punch yelled, “Bullsh*t! Which eye saw me trip him!?”
The ball hadn’t been in Yu Canxing’s hands at the time, so very few people had been paying attention to his movements.
“Who saw it? Who else saw it!?” the guy shouted arrogantly at the crowd.
A girl’s voice suddenly rang out: “I—I saw it! It was you! You stuck your left foot out and tripped him!”
Song Ying, who had been looking down fiddling with his phone, looked over. It was the Discipline Coordinator, Lin Zhixia, who had stepped forward.
The guy’s eyes sharpened. “Shut up! Do you have proof? I could just as easily say you’ve got a thing for someone in our class!”
Qin Mian snapped, “Watch your mouth! What kind of nonsense are you spewing?”
As a girl, hearing such a foul accusation made Lin Zhixia’s eyes turn red with anger. Song Ying pulled Lin Zhixia behind him and immediately dialed Ding Zi’s number. (Since Song Ying had been called for a talk regarding his facial injuries earlier, he already had the teacher’s contact.)
In less than two minutes, Ding Zi arrived in a hurry. Seeing Ding Zi, Lin Zhixia felt a wave of grievance and immediately burst into tears. “Teacher Ding…” Duan Momo stood beside her, gently wiping her tears with a tissue.
Ding Zi took in the chaotic scene: the crying Discipline Coordinator, the downed Yu Canxing, Qin Mian supporting him, Cao Wei desperately holding back a dark-faced Ye Jun, and the aggressive students from Class 3. He sucked in a breath of cold air.
What’s the deal? This was supposed to be a basketball game—why does it look like a disaster zone?
He first instructed people to take Yu Canxing to the infirmary, then gathered the facts before leading everyone involved to the office. Along the way, he patted Lin Zhixia on the head to comfort her.
Because the commotion was quite large, it drew the attention of the Grade Dean, Cai Yu. Eventually, it became a standoff in the Dean’s Office between the Class 3 teacher, Gao Yan, and the Class 18 teacher, Ding Zi, along with their respective students.
Gao Yan rapped on the table, looking at the boy in front of her. “Feng Cheng, tell me—did you trip him or not? How did he fall?”
Feng Cheng remained firm. “Teacher Gao, I really didn’t trip him. He clearly fell on his own. He just happened to fall right next to my feet, so they blamed me. Then this Ye Jun guy just punched me for no reason!”
“What kind of crap are you talking!?” Ye Jun was so enraged by Feng Cheng’s lies that he wanted to punch him again. Cao Wei barely managed to restrain him.
Ding Zi frowned. “Calm down! You want to start a fight right in front of Dean Cai?” He glanced behind Cao Wei and Ye Jun, only to see Qin Mian and Song Ying huddled together, whispering and smiling at a phone screen.
Ding Zi: ? What time is it, and they’re still smiling that happily?
A moment ago, Qin Mian had noticed Song Ying looking down at his phone and leaned in. “What are you looking at?”
Song Ying showed the screen to Qin Mian. The most prominent thing on it was Qin Mian’s figure sprinting with the ball. But in one corner of the video, Feng Cheng and Yu Canxing were clearly visible. It showed perfectly that as Yu Canxing was running, Feng Cheng seemingly “accidentally” stuck out his left foot. In the next second, Yu Canxing fell heavily.
A flash of shock crossed Qin Mian’s eyes, and he looked at Song Ying with newfound admiration. “Not bad, Song Ying. You’ve got the key evidence.”
Song Ying couldn’t help but let the corners of his mouth curl up.
“Then why didn’t you bring the recording out earlier?” Qin Mian asked. “You let that Feng guy run his mouth for so long.” As he spoke, he shot a freezing glance toward Feng Cheng, making the latter shiver.
Song Ying lifted his eyelids toward Feng Cheng. “I wanted to see what kind of lies he could come up with.”
“I didn’t realize you were this wicked,” Qin Mian remarked, his tone shifting. “But I like it.”
Song Ying froze for a moment upon hearing this, assuming Qin Mian was just speaking casually.
Ding Zi poked his head over. “You two! What are you smiling at? What’s so funny?”
Song Ying handed the phone to Qin Mian. Qin Mian took it, his gaze lazily landing on Feng Cheng. Feng Cheng’s heart tightened.
“Nothing. We just found evidence of someone maliciously tripping another person and then lying through their teeth about it.”
Following those words, everyone’s eyes landed on Qin Mian. Dean Cai frowned. “What evidence? Show it, quickly.”
Soon, the clear video revealed the truth of the incident. Gao Yan’s face almost couldn’t handle the embarrassment; her face turned red with anger. “Feng Cheng! Do you have anything else to say!?”
Feng Cheng trembled. “I… I didn’t do it on purpose.”
“Not on purpose!?” Gao Yan’s finger was almost poking Feng Cheng in the head. “Did someone pick up your foot and put it in front of him for you?!”
“Go right now! To the infirmary! Find that student and apologize!” She scolded him loudly and sternly, leaving no room for Ding Zi or Dean Cai to interject.
Feng Cheng nodded submissively and moved toward the door.
“Wait a moment,” Qin Mian suddenly spoke.
The veins on Gao Yan’s forehead throbbed. Song Ying, following the cue, stepped toward the door and blocked Feng Cheng’s path.
