- Chapter 24 - Venting Frustration
The violent jolt snapped Nanxi back to reality. She looked up and realized that in her haste, she had rear-ended the car in front of her.
Inside the struck vehicle, Qin Xiaozhe frowned deeply. Being hit on a perfectly clear road was irritating, and he immediately instructed Luo Rongfei, “Go handle it.”
As Luo Rongfei stepped out of the car, Qin Xiaozhe glanced in the rearview mirror and noticed the car behind him belonged to Miss Nan. His eyes lit up instantly.
“Never mind, I’ll go myself.”
He had tried to see Miss Nan several times before without success, and now they had met in such an unexpected way on the road. It seemed fate was indeed at play.
Qin Xiaozhe got out and approached Nanxi’s car. “Miss Nan, it’s me.”
Nanxi had intended to apologize for the collision, but when she saw Qin Xiaozhe’s figure through the dark tinted windows, she froze completely.
Why did it have to be him?
If he found out she was the eldest daughter of the Nan family, he would likely not easily agree to a divorce.
But if she didn’t get out of the car after all, she was the one who had hit his vehicle avoiding him would be improper.
Just as Nanxi was unsure what to do, the pursuing SUV caught up from behind.
With no other choice, Nanxi hastily reversed and sped away.
“Why did she run off?” Luo Rongfei exclaimed in surprise. “Boss Qin, I’ll go after her.”
Qin Xiaozhe was equally puzzled. Miss Nan had hit his car, yet he hadn’t pressed charges. Why would she flee? Was she deliberately avoiding him?
But they didn’t know each other there was no reason for her to evade him.
However, when he noticed the SUV aggressively tailing her car, he understood. “Quick! Miss Nan is in trouble. Chase them and intercept that SUV!”
The SUV pursued relentlessly, closing in at a turn. Just as Nanxi felt utterly trapped and on the verge of breaking down, Qin Xiaozhe’s car suddenly swerved in, blocking the SUV’s path.
Seeing that she now had assistance, the SUV turned around and fled.
Nanxi felt a weight lift from her chest. As she relaxed and prepared to drive away, she saw Qin Xiaozhe step out of his car and approach hers.
“Miss Nan, you’re safe now.”
Nanxi’s heart sank.
Was there no escaping this today?
“Miss Nan, it’s not safe out here. Let me escort you back.”
Nanxi felt trapped unable to step out yet unable to stay inside.
She forced herself to appear calm. “That won’t be necessary. I’ll have someone contact you about the repair costs.”
“We’re friends it’s fine. Your car’s bumper is cracked. Let me take you back; it’s safer this way.”
Qin Xiaozhe stood outside her car, making it clear he wouldn’t leave unless she stepped out.
Nanxi felt helpless, unsure of what to do.
Just then, a gray Maybach pulled over nearby. Mu Yichen emerged and walked toward Nanxi’s car. He glanced inside, then turned his gaze to Qin Xiaozhe standing beside it. “No need to trouble yourself, President Qin. I’ll escort my fiancée myself.”
Qin Xiaozhe hadn’t expected Mu Yichen to show up.
Seeing him, Qin Xiaozhe nodded respectfully. Handing her over to Mu Yichen was only proper.
Still, he couldn’t shake the feeling that he and Miss Nan were connected by fate. There was also a strange sense of familiarity about her.
If he couldn’t escort her this time, it didn’t matter he would find another opportunity. “Very well.”
With Mu Yichen’s intervention, Qin Xiaozhe had no choice but to relent.
After he left, Nanxi finally opened the car door with lingering fear and got into the Bugatti with Mu Yichen.
Mu Yichen looked Nanxi up and down, making sure she was unharmed before he relaxed. “I’m sorry, it was my poor planning.”
He hadn’t expected the old master to track down Nanyuan.
Nanxi shook her head. “It’s not your fault.”
If the old master had sent someone specifically to find her, there would have been countless ways to do so it was impossible to guard against them all.
“From now on, I’ll arrange a dedicated driver for you, someone who can also protect you.”
Seeing the concern in his eyes, Nanxi didn’t refuse again.
Mu Yichen personally escorted Nanxi home and introduced the driver and bodyguard he had selected. “This is Zhai Qiao. From now on, he’ll protect you around the clock.”
Zhai Qiao was of average height, with dark skin and a stern expression. He didn’t seem particularly remarkable, but Nanxi knew that anyone trusted by Mu Yichen must have exceptional qualities.
Once everything was arranged, Mu Yichen left.
He had originally planned to return to the old mansion that evening to confront the old master in person, but since the old master had brought trouble to Nanxi’s doorstep, he naturally had to return the favor.
After Mu Yichen left, Zhai Qiao disappeared.
Nanxi had no idea where he was hiding, but his presence made her feel much more at ease.
Just as she was about to rest, Zhai Qiao suddenly reappeared before her. “Miss Nan, Qin Xiaozhe is here.”
“Why is he here?” Nanxi was surprised.
No sooner had she spoken than the housekeeper entered and informed her, “Miss, Mr. Qin is here. He says you hit his car and need to discuss compensation.”
Nanxi knew Qin Xiaozhe was doing this on purpose. She guessed his motive was to get close to the Nan family’s resources, hoping to use this opportunity to build a connection.
Unfortunately for him, his plan was about to backfire.
Noticing Nanxi’s hesitation, Zhai Qiao spoke up, “Miss Nan, I’ll handle it.”
Nanxi shook her head. “No need.”
Since Qin Xiaozhe had repeatedly harassed her, she decided it was time to put an end to it once and for all.
She instructed Zhai Qiao, “Tell Lin Rufe that her fiancé is loitering outside the Nan family’s eldest daughter’s home.”
Zhai Qiao acknowledged the order and left to carry it out.
Ignoring Qin Xiaozhe outside, Nanxi went back inside to wash up.
Mu Yichen stormed into the old master’s study with a dark expression.
A servant tried to stop him. “Mr. Mu, the old master is resting. You can’t go in.”
Mu Yichen ignored the warning, kicked the door open, and strode inside.
The old master’s brushstroke wavered slightly, leaving a flaw on the paper.
Annoyed, he looked up, waved the servant away, and fixed his gaze on Mu Yichen standing before him.
Before the old master could speak, Mu Yichen demanded, “Why?”
The old master knew exactly what Mu Yichen was referring to. He sat back in his chair, took a sip of tea, and then suddenly flung the teacup cup and all straight at Mu Yichen.
Mu Yichen didn’t dodge.
The cup struck his forehead, leaving a red mark, and the tea leaves scattered, staining his clothes.
Seeing this, the old master grew even angrier. “For the sake of a woman, you injured your own uncle! Mu Yichen, you’ve really outdone yourself!”
“I didn’t kill him that was out of respect for you,” Mu Yichen retorted disdainfully, his cold, sharp eyes sending a chill down the old master’s spine.
The old master trembled with rage.
His grandson was just like him ruthless and decisive.
The only difference was that Mu Yichen had harmed his own family over an outsider.
“That’s your own uncle! The Nan family’s daughter is nothing but an outsider. Can’t you tell the difference between family and strangers?”
“Grandfather,” Mu Yichen corrected him. “Nanxi married me and became my wife, she is my most important family. Mu Chen is your illegitimate son; to me, he is the outsider.”
“You!” The old man grabbed a brush holder, poised to hurl it down.
“Go ahead and throw it. The last strike was me breaking his ribs to vent your anger for you. But if you throw that now, I can’t guarantee which part of him I’ll target next. If you want him to keep getting hurt, feel free to make your move.”
Hearing this, the old man nearly fainted from rage.
