- You cheated, I divorced, why are you kneeling and begging me?
- Chapter 22 - My Sincerity
Nanxi let go of her hand, only to realize that tears had welled up in her eyes. She quickly wiped them away and smiled sheepishly. “Sorry for making you see me like this.”
Mu Yichen watched as she wiped her tears, his heart aching even more. “I’m sorry I came so late.”
“I should be thanking you. You arranged for the bodyguards.” When the bodyguards stepped forward, Nanxi knew that Mu Yichen had taken care of everything for her. She understood how much effort he had put in to get here so quickly.
In the past, no matter what happened, Qin Xiaozhe would always brush her off when she told him. Over time, she learned to face things on her own. But now, someone had arranged everything for her and protected her so thoroughly. Even the hardest of hearts would feel warmed.
“Something like this won’t happen again,” Mu Yichen said solemnly.
Nanxi lowered her gaze and was about to speak when she noticed blood seeping from the back of Mu Yichen’s hand.
“You’re injured.”
She instructed the housekeeper to bring the first aid kit and personally cleaned his wound before applying a bandage.
Feeling her attentiveness, Mu Yichen’s lips curved into a faint smile. It was just a minor injury, yet she treated it with such care. A warm feeling spread through his heart, and he didn’t feel any pain at all.
However, since this matter concerned him, he needed to clarify things.
After Nanxi handed the first aid kit back to the housekeeper and sat down again, Mu Yichen’s expression turned more serious. “I should tell you about the Mu family’s situation.”
Nanxi listened carefully.
“The old man doesn’t approve of our marriage.”
Nanxi had overheard Mu Chen’s earlier words and nodded. “Why?”
Mu Yichen didn’t continue.
Nanxi guessed the old man probably thought she was a divorcee and that the Nan family’s current crisis made her unworthy of the Mu family.
“What about you?” Nanxi asked. “Why do you want to marry me?”
She didn’t care what his family thought; she wanted to know what he thought. Because Mu Chen had told her something earlier, that Mu Yichen had someone he loved.
With Qin Xiaozhe, she had already endured enough of being a substitute and didn’t want to repeat that experience.
Although she had asked him this question the first time they met, she wanted to ask again now.
Seeing the seriousness in Nanxi’s eyes, Mu Yichen felt a sudden unease. He couldn’t very well say that he had liked her for many years she probably wouldn’t believe him anyway. He planned to let her fall in love with him gradually over time. For now, he could only tell her, “I admire you.”
Nanxi gave a faint smile.
“President Mu, I hope you’re serious about this.”
Even though it was an arranged marriage, she still hoped the other party would treat her sincerely.
At her words, Mu Yichen turned and left.
Nanxi’s heart sank.
Was he angry?
It seemed he really didn’t want to marry her after all.
Just as her thoughts began to spiral, Mu Yichen returned, holding a document folder.
“Marrying you, I am serious. This is my sincerity.”
With that, he handed the folder to Nanxi.
Nanxi was stunned for a moment before taking it and opening it. To her surprise, it was a prenuptial agreement. She glanced at Mu Yichen in disbelief.
The agreement stated that after marriage, both parties would share their assets. Moreover, if the husband were to cheat or wrong the wife in any way, all assets would be transferred to her.
Reading this, Nanxi was utterly astonished. She looked up at Mu Yichen, unable to believe what she was seeing.
With the Mu Group’s assets worth millions, he had pledged everything he owned, giving her an immense sense of security.
Marriage alliances among wealthy families are ultimately about mutual assistance and fulfilling each other’s needs. Yet, the sincerity he displayed was unparalleled across the entire nation.
To say she wasn’t moved would be a lie.
Nanxi sighed inwardly, “You’re not joking, are you?”
Mu Yichen took a card out of his pocket and placed it in front of Nanxi. “This is the betrothal gift. It contains one billion, along with this document, which I’ve already signed and notarized. It’s legally binding. Since you’re willing to marry me, it’s only right that I give you a promise.”
This tangible promise, backed by real money, erased all the doubts in Nanxi’s heart.
She accepted the card and the prenuptial agreement. “Alright, I’ll take it.”
As long as he could provide her with a sense of security, she was ready to embrace this happiness.
“Good.” Overjoyed, Mu Yichen took Nanxi’s hand, interlacing their fingers.
Nanxi snapped a photo of their joined hands.
Both of them posted it simultaneously on their social media.
Hearing the sound of the door opening, Lin Rufei immediately rushed over. Seeing that it was Qin Xiaozhe returning, she began to complain, “Why are you only coming back now? Do you know how long I’ve been waiting? Why are you like this lately? You never spend time with me anymore. Have you been drinking? Who were you drinking with? How much did you drink?”
“Don’t you want to ask why I was drinking?” he asked.
“Then why were you drinking?”
Suddenly, Qin Xiaozhe didn’t feel like answering.
When Nanxi was around, she never nagged like this. No matter how late he came home or how much he drank, her first concern was always his well-being. She would pour him water, make him sobering soup, and take care of him all night. The next morning, when he woke up, she would comfort him instead of interrogating him the moment she saw him.
Feigning a headache, Qin Xiaozhe retreated to the bathroom.
Nanxi had blocked him, but he hadn’t deleted her contact, hoping to give her a chance. On a whim, he clicked on her profile and saw that she had just posted a new update.
When he opened it, it was a photo of two hands clasped together. He immediately stood up from the toilet seat.
He wanted to call and confront her but remembered she had blocked him. Fuming, he stormed out into the living room. “Nanxi is getting married?”
Lin Rufei had seen it too, but it was just a photo of hands nothing special. There wasn’t even a ring on their fingers.
“I never expected her and Zhao Dong to progress so quickly. Nanxi is really something to make you regret it, she’d even take a man like Zhao Dong. That day, when they were so close while having dinner together, you still thought you’d wronged her. Now you see, don’t you? I heard Zhao Dong is the CEO of Nanyuan Group now. Nanxi must be clinging to him on purpose.”
So Nanxi really was that kind of materialistic woman. After leaving him, she’d gone and found herself an older man.
The thought of Nanxi stooping so low as to be with an older man infuriated Qin Xiaozhe. “I won’t let her have her way!”
After receiving the annual corporate adjustment plan sent by Zhao Dong, Nanxi immediately called Mu Yichen to inform him that she wouldn’t need him to pick her up to go to the Mu Corporation. She had to go to Nanyuan first.
Zhao Dong was indeed a man of action a true executor. Since joining the company, he had been working tirelessly, devising strategies and formulating plans tailored to the company’s development. Nanxi had already stayed up late the previous night reviewing the adjustment plan, but some aspects still required further discussion before they could be finalized.
Upon arriving at the company, she intended to head straight to the general manager’s office. However, as soon as she entered the lobby, she heard a familiar voice.
“I am Qin Xiaozhe, CEO of the Qin Corporation. I need to speak with General Manager Zhao.”
Hearing that voice sent a jolt through Nanxi’s heart.
Qin Xiaozhe was truly relentless, having even tracked her down to the company.
She turned away, pretending not to see him, intending to avoid him until he left before returning.
But the moment she turned, a sharp shout erupted behind her, “Nanxi! It really is you. You came to find Zhao Dong, didn’t you!”
With those words, Qin Xiaozhe rushed in front of Nanxi, grabbed her hand, and glared at her with fury burning in his eyes.
