You Are My Omega - Chapter 85
Two days before the onset of her heat, Lin Xinyi suspended all her work and public appearances. It hadn’t been long since she was discharged from the hospital when her Omega heat cycle hit. With no other option, she had to stay home to endure it.
Staying in a hotel wasn’t convenient long-term, so before returning, Lin Xinyi had already contacted an agent to look for a house. She bought one, but it was a home with only herself inside. It was a house, but it didn’t feel like a warm home.
With nothing to do at home, Lin Xinyi found herself overthinking, especially about one sentence.
Lying on the sofa hugging a pillow, she stared at the spotless ceiling above. Even now, she still didn’t know whether that one “it’s okay” she heard had actually been said by Xu Shijiu, or if it had just been something she imagined.
Xu Shijiu had said she never spoke, that Lin Xinyi must have misheard. But that voice had sounded so real. How could it have been a mistake?
She sighed and shook her head, forcing herself to stop overthinking. Whether or not that “it’s okay” was real, Xu Shijiu’s attitude toward her had indeed changed. She was no longer as distant.
In the beginning, Xu Shijiu’s attitude had been completely cold, treating her like a stranger. It had been difficult for Lin Xinyi to accept and left her unsure of how to bridge the gap.
Her sister’s warning and the harsh truth had prepared her for a long and exhausting effort. Even while she was sick, she had worried that her poor health would slow her down. But ironically, that period of illness had helped close some of the distance between them.
The doorbell rang.
Lin Xinyi’s heart skipped a beat. She grabbed her phone and immediately opened the security feed.
What she saw made her breath catch.
Standing at her door were two people she recognized all too well. The ones who had haunted her nightmares more than once.
It was her so-called “Uncle” and “Aunt,” the younger brother and sister-in-law of her late father.
Lin Xinyi had no intention of opening the door. If nothing had changed, she already knew what would happen next. As soon as she stepped out, she would see that Alpha. The one they claimed had been her betrothed since childhood. He would be standing just out of the camera’s view, waiting for her to open the door. And the moment she did, he would force his way in with the help of the two elders.
She had been trapped this way twice before. She wasn’t going to fall for it a third time.
But Lin Xinyi still underestimated just how far these two would go.
“Lin Xinyi, I know you’re in there. If you don’t open this door, I’ll burn all of your father’s things,” her aunt shouted. “This Alpha was promised to you when you were a child. Both families agreed back then. You may not be getting married yet, but at the very least, you should get to know each other.”
The half-threatening, half-pleading tone in her voice made Lin Xinyi laugh bitterly. She had lost count of how many times she’d heard this exact line.
A childhood engagement?
She didn’t believe that for a second. Her father had never once mentioned having a younger brother or any relatives. He had never even spoken of having parents. Lin Xinyi had always doubted the so-called blood relationship.
This so-called engagement was probably meant for Lin Zhiling. It must have been her who was engaged to this Alpha. But now, in order to get rid of him and avoid trouble with his powerful family, they had used her as a scapegoat instead.
Once, Lin Xinyi had dreamed that these suddenly appearing relatives might love her the way her father had. She had met her aunt before, a woman who seemed kind and gentle. Lin Zhiling had also seemed like a good person. For a while, she had even hoped she might finally have more people in the world who loved her.
But everything had an expiration date.
At the beginning, her uncle and aunt had truly been kind to her. That lasted until the Alpha and his parents showed up.
Then everything changed.
She had once compromised, hoping to retrieve her father’s belongings. But after being tricked a second time, she finally understood. Whatever “keepsakes” they mentioned were just an excuse. They probably never had anything in the first place.
Suddenly, there was loud banging on the door.
The people outside had given up on reasoning and switched to violence.
Startled, Lin Xinyi opened her contacts and was about to call building security or the management office. But the first name she saw was Xu Shijiu.
Her fingers paused. It felt like some invisible force was guiding her. After a few seconds of hesitation, she pressed the name and called.
“What’s wrong?” Xu Shijiu picked up quickly.
Before Lin Xinyi could even explain, Xu Shijiu had already heard the violent pounding through the phone. Her voice immediately tensed with concern.
“What’s that noise? What’s going on?”
Lin Xinyi hadn’t meant to ask for help. But the moment she heard the worry in Xu Shijiu’s voice, all the grievances she had buried came rushing to the surface.
“My uncle and aunt brought that Alpha again. They’re outside trying to force me to open the door and spend time with him. Xu Shijiu…” Her voice trembled as she spoke.
She hadn’t felt this wronged before, but hearing Xu Shijiu’s concerned tone made her realize just how much she had endured. Whatever little affection she once had for her so-called relatives had already vanished when they first tried to force that Alpha into her life.
Now, there was nothing left.
Xu Shijiu could hear the hurt in her voice. The anger inside her surged. She slammed the Lin family’s cooperation proposal shut on her desk and tried to keep her voice steady as she comforted the Omega on the other end of the line.
“Wait for me. I’m coming right now.”
Xu Shijiu didn’t hang up the phone. She held it tightly and began to jog.
Lin Xinyi could clearly hear the rapid footsteps on the other end. What stood out even more was that Xu Shijiu hadn’t asked where she lived, which could only mean one thing.
Xu Shijiu already knew. She had been paying attention to her, keeping track of her situation.
“Xu Shijiu, don’t rush. I locked the door. They can’t get in,” Lin Xinyi said anxiously. She was worried about Xu Shijiu’s legs. Though she had recovered, the doctor had made it clear that her limit would always be light jogging.
Xu Shijiu was already in her car, buckled in, and skillfully handling the steering wheel. The heavy pounding that continued from Lin Xinyi’s side of the line only fueled her anger. She pressed her lips together and told Lin Xinyi, “Go to the room farthest inside. Don’t listen to the noise they’re making.”
She was afraid Lin Xinyi might get frightened just hearing all the commotion.
The house Lin Xinyi bought was close to the Xu Corporation. She had chosen the location on purpose, and it made it easier for Xu Shijiu to arrive quickly.
By the time she got there, security had already removed the intruders. But the front door was visibly damaged. The dents and scratches made it obvious that tools had been used. Xu Shijiu stared at the marks, her expression growing colder and more serious.
They were bold. The Lin family had really dared to come after Lin Xinyi like this.
Through the security camera, Lin Xinyi saw Xu Shijiu arrive and rushed to open the door. The moment she saw her, she was met with a pair of eyes still filled with icy fury. Her body shivered instinctively.
Xu Shijiu noticed the tremble and assumed Lin Xinyi was still shaken from fear.
“Are you alright?” Xu Shijiu stepped forward and looked her over carefully.
“…Yes, I’m fine.” Lin Xinyi nodded. She stared at the concern and tension in Xu Shijiu’s eyes, not knowing how to respond. She felt surprised and overwhelmed. The care was so unexpected, she didn’t know what to do with it.
“Where are the bodyguards? I arranged for them to be with you at all times,” Xu Shijiu asked, her voice full of disbelief.
“I… gave them the day off,” Lin Xinyi said quietly. She offered a guilty smile under Xu Shijiu’s incredulous gaze. “It’s Mid-Autumn Festival. I thought they deserved a break. My schedule will be full soon and they’ll have to follow me everywhere, so I gave them this one day.”
Xu Shijiu looked like she could barely contain her frustration.
“I hired them to protect you twenty-four seven. They’re not on standard contracts. The only condition was that they stay by your side. Why would you send them away?”
Did Lin Xinyi not realize how public and vulnerable her position was now?
“I’m sorry…” Lin Xinyi responded softly, though her heart quietly rejoiced at seeing Xu Shijiu express herself so openly.
Since she had returned, Xu Shijiu had always been reserved. But now, she wasn’t holding anything back. It felt good. It felt real.
Seeing Lin Xinyi’s red eyes, full of emotion, immediately extinguished Xu Shijiu’s anger. She sighed.
“This wasn’t really your fault. I shouldn’t have taken it out on you.”
Lin Xinyi looked like she had been wronged, like she was on the verge of tears. Her expression made Xu Shijiu feel like she had bullied her.
“Would you like to come in?” Lin Xinyi asked gently.
Xu Shijiu had intended to refuse, but under Lin Xinyi’s gaze, with those red eyes looking at her like that, she gave in.
“Alright.”
As soon as she stepped inside, before she could even sit down, the scent hit her.
The air filled with the rich, sweet fragrance of blooming gardenias. It spread quickly, saturating the space with the pheromones of a top-tier Omega.
For an Alpha, this scent was dangerously seductive.
“Lin Xinyi, you…” Xu Shijiu’s eyes widened in disbelief. She could feel the Omega’s scent reaching out, clinging to her skin. She tried to fight it, tried to hold back, but her body was no longer listening to her. She was consumed by the heat rising inside her.
Her thoughts were hazy, completely overtaken by the instinctive pull toward the Omega in front of her.
Lin Xinyi reached out, her fingers trembling, and gently peeled away the inhibitor patch from Xu Shijiu’s neck.
In that moment, the fragrance of sweet oranges filled the room, mingling with the gardenia scent.
Alpha and Omega pheromones collided, intertwined, and fused together. The citrus and floral notes blended into something intoxicating, something neither of them could pull away from.
