- Chapter 22 - Extra 6: Pregnancy
“Are you really pregnant?”
“I am pregnant.”
Even after Wei Xia and Xie Jingyu left the hospital and returned home, they were still filled with a sense of bewilderment. They stared at each other in the living room, and then it was as if they finally understood something.
“I am pregnant.”
Xie Jingyu suddenly forgot how to walk properly, so Wei Xia hurried forward to support him.
When he woke up that day, Xie Jingyu had actually been very panicked. He read in books that a permanent marking would be very painful, but he had completely failed to realize that it would be this painful, to the point that he felt a bit angry whenever he looked at Wei Xia. It was only when he was taking a bath and discovered the wild, clawed blood marks on Wei Xia’s back that he began to feel heartache for him.
“Was I like that at that time?”
Wei Xia held his hand. “It does not matter. Compared to your pain, I wish I could bear all of it on your behalf.”
Xie Jingyu let go of his grievances. He had actually detected a difference as well.
Previously, although he and Wei Xia shared a mark, it could only be maintained for a few days. After a few days passed, the skin on the gland would heal over, and the partner’s scent would vanish completely. But it was different now. No matter where he went, that aroma of white wine followed him like a shadow, as if Wei Xia were by his side every single moment.
Of course, Wei Xia refused to allow him to leave his line of sight by even a single step. For the first time, he firmly issued a command to Xie Jingyu, telling him to take a vacation.
The reason given was that Wei Xia was pregnant, so he had to return home to accompany his wife while waiting for childbirth.
Xie Jingyu felt helpless, but seeing that this was the first time Wei Xia ever dared to command him, he obediently shifted his work online. However, long before his belly even began to show, Wei Xia started feeding him all kinds of nutritional supplements like a flowing stream. He ate until his mouth was slick with grease, making him want to vomit.
After his very first unconscious bout of retching, Xie Jingyu did not feel much of anything yet, but Wei Xia, who was standing further away, dropped his bowl. He walked over with deep concern.
“Jingyu, did you just vomit?” His hand gently stroked his lover’s spine, and his brows knitted tightly together. “Do you still feel like vomiting now?”
Only then did Xie Jingyu realize that he seemed to have dry-heaved just now. It was entirely because the soup was too oily. He was just about to push the soup away when he saw the oil droplets floating on the surface, causing him to heave once more.
Wei Xia quickly carried the soup away. He spun around on the spot in a frantic panic, and then ran off into the kitchen to prepare a new nutritional supplement. Xie Jingyu originally wanted to tell Wei Xia not to busy himself further, but he later realized that he would not have to drink the soup, and since Wei Xia would clearly be even more anxious if he did not do something, he just let him be.
That night, Xie Jingyu slept peacefully through the night, but Wei Xia kept his eyes wide open, staring at the ceiling the entire night.
The next day, Wei Xia bore two massive dark circles under his eyes as he began a non-stop session of morning sickness in the bathroom.
Xie Jingyu found it a bit amusing at first. At that moment, he was eating fruit while staring at Wei Xia in the bathroom from a distance. Every time he took a bite, Wei Xia would lean down and vomit. When he took another bite, Wei Xia would vomit again.
Xie Jingyu said, “Stop looking at me.”
Wei Xia rinsed his mouth. “No.” After speaking, he walked over and confiscated the bowl from Xie Jingyu’s hands. “Today’s amount is enough, you cannot eat any more.”
Before Xie Jingyu could say a word, he watched Wei Xia rush back toward the bathroom the very instant he took over the bowl.
By the time two months had passed, Xie Jingyu had gained five pounds, while Wei Xia had thinned down by a whole circle.
His morning sickness was truly severe, so they went to the hospital for a checkup. The doctor explained that because he loved his partner too much, his body had developed a compensatory mechanism. Almost all of Xie Jingyu’s pregnancy responses had been transferred onto Wei Xia instead.
This left Xie Jingyu to enjoy his comfort, though he felt more and more heartache for Wei Xia. Wei Xia, however, expressed that he was very happy this way.
The only compensation he requested was to take a look at the lower belly during bath time.
Xie Jingyu had originally thought that nothing could possibly be seen yet, but to his surprise, when Wei Xia’s hand brushed over it in the bathtub that night, there truly was a slight curve. His waist and abdomen had always been smooth and tight without a single trace of flab, so even after gaining five pounds, there would not be any obvious change. His upper and middle abdomen remained as flat as always, yet on his lower abdomen, a tiny bit protruded. If one did not observe closely, it was completely unnoticeable.
Xie Jingyu said, “This is just because I grew fat from eating.”
Wei Xia smiled and replied, “Yes, yes, it is.”
But both of them knew that beneath that tiny curve, the crystallization of their love was being nurtured, a vibrant new life.
“President Xie, Professor Wei and the young master have arrived.”
Fang Jinran pushed the door open and entered, attempting to use this good news to extinguish his boss’s terrifying, aggressive demeanor.
Sure enough, upon hearing these words, Xie Jingyu’s expression softened considerably. The row of people standing next to him, who were the managers of various departments, secretly cast grateful glances toward Fang Jinran.
Fang Jinran thought to himself, You are welcome, after all, I am the owner of the entire company’s information group.
Five minutes later, Professor Wei pushed open the door to the office while holding an infant child.
Wei Xia held the little fellow in his arms while his other hand carried various baby supplies, looking a bit disheveled and a trace exhausted at first glance. Anyone looking at him would know immediately who usually took care of the child. Yet, one could not help but sigh in admiration, because these two faces, one large and one small, were each more pleasing to the eye than the other.
The infant child took the surname Xie, named Xie Lian, with the childhood name of Shiwu. He looked exactly like Wei Xia, inheriting that beautiful and clever aura as if carved from the very same mold. President Xie was truly fortunate to have such a beautiful partner who gave birth to such an adorable child.
The moment the infant entered the office, he extended both arms toward Xie Jingyu. “Daddy, hold me!”
Xie Jingyu waited until everyone had looked their fill before he said, “All of you may dismiss.” Then, before the people could even leave, he spoke in a soft voice, “Shiwu, come here.”
The crowd slipped away even faster. Who had ever heard President Xie speak in such a manner? Have you seen it? I have not seen it! We will not be silenced for this, right?规矩点, Hurry up and run!
As soon as the small child dived into Xie Jingyu’s embrace, he immediately filed a complaint. “Daddy, Father hit me just now.”
Xie Jingyu raised an eyebrow. “Why did he hit you?”
“Because I said I want a younger brother or sister.”
The moment these words were spoken, Wei Xia’s face turned stark white. Xie Jingyu observed the change in his expression and could not resist bursting out into laughter.
At night, taking advantage of the time after the child had fallen asleep, Wei Xia quietly crawled beneath Xie Jingyu, rubbing against him while nibbling, threatening in a low voice, “Jingyu, we really cannot give birth anymore.”
Xie Jingyu spoke as if begging for mercy, “No more births, no more births.”
Wei Xia revealed a satisfied smile. He had gone through so much trouble just to raise one child who competed with him for affection, so why would he ever bring a second one into the world? The child deserved to cry. Never mind that he was faking his tears, even if he cried for real, there would be no younger brother or sister.
Xie Lian was born on the fifteenth day of June during the summer season. When Xie Jingyu and Wei Xia were taking a stroll, they happened to encounter the chinaberry trees blooming across the sky.
Wei Xia had remarked, “We are viewing the scenery in summer. When the chinaberry flowers bloom, summer begins.”
He had spoken casually, but Xie Jingyu made the final decision on the spot. “The baby will take this name.”
The chinaberry tree, known as the kalian tree, was a very beautiful tree. It symbolized the sweetness that arrived after bitterness passed, representing the difficulties they had faced along their journey together. At the same time, it symbolized bravery and resilience, reflecting their boundless confidence in the future.
