Why Won’t the Heroine Break Up With Me? [Quick Transmigration] - Chapter 31
Before they could find the seed market and shopping mall, they first spotted a furniture emporium.
Thinking of the empty rooms in the farmhouse courtyard, Yun Li decided to furnish them and asked Tang Congyue to drive over.
Arriving at the furniture emporium, Tang Congyue got out first to survey the surroundings, ensuring there were no monsters before signaling Yun Li to exit the vehicle.
As they entered the furniture emporium, Tang Congyue reminded her along the way, “A-Li, if we encounter any monsters, don’t worry about me, just go straight into your space, understand?”
Although Yun Li’s strength had increased, she lacked experience dealing with monsters, so the best course was for her to hide in her space if danger arose.
“I know, don’t worry.”
Yun Li valued her own life; she didn’t need Tang Congyue’s reminder to act that way.
Inside the furniture emporium, Yun Li began selecting items.
She first picked out a sofa set and a coffee table to place in the living room on the first floor of the farmhouse. Then, she chose two beds and other furniture, neatly arranging two of the rooms. The remaining four rooms, Yun Li had no plans to furnish, as they wouldn’t be using them and intended to convert them into storage spaces.
Hmm, she could store the supplies they had gathered earlier in those empty rooms.
“Are you done?” Tang Congyue asked.
“All set, let’s go.”
They descended to the first floor but hadn’t yet left the furniture emporium when, from a distance, they spotted a monster resembling a wild boar sniffing around their off-road vehicle.
Narrowing her eyes, Tang Congyue told Yun Li to stay inside the furniture emporium. Then, gripping the watermelon knife she had recently acquired, she slowly stepped out.
Almost as soon as she emerged, the wild boar-like monster turned to look at her. It stood about 1.5 meters tall, with a stout, robust body that looked to weigh several hundred pounds.
“Roar!”
The monster let out a fierce roar and was about to charge when its murky eyes met Tang Congyue’s. Then, it heard an icy-cold command. Suddenly terrified, it crouched low, emitting whimpering sounds akin to pleading, before turning around and fleeing without a backward glance.
Witnessing this, Tang Congyue raised an eyebrow slightly.
Just as before, she had told the monster to “scram” and it, like the previous hyena-like monster, had fled in panic. However, afterward, she felt a slight headache, likely a side effect of using her ability.
It seemed she couldn’t overuse this commanding ability at her current level.
At this thought, Tang Congyue frowned slightly.
A few seconds later, she turned and waved toward the furniture emporium.
Soon after, Yun Li, who had been waiting inside, came running out.
She had witnessed the entire scene and was still somewhat bewildered.
“Congyue, why did that monster run away?”
The hyena-like monster had also fled earlier, but Yun Li hadn’t thought much of it at the time. Now, seeing this seemingly ferocious monster escape as well, she was filled with confusion.
“My ability interfered with the monster’s actions.”
“Huh?”
“Before, I only knew my ability could make monsters freeze, letting me deal with them as I pleased. Now I’ve discovered I can also command them, telling them to scram.”
Hiss!
Yun Li silently gasped.
That’s incredibly powerful, isn’t it?
“So impressive, how can I ever look down on her ability again?”
Yun Li was truly at a loss for words.
At that moment, Tang Congyue spoke again: “But this kind of commanding control can’t be used too often. Overusing it gives me headaches.”
Huh?
There’s actually such a weakness?!
Yun Li felt her confidence return!
She blinked rapidly, suppressing her delight as she feigned concern and asked, “Are you alright right now?”
“Nothing serious. Let’s get going.”
“Okay.”
They returned to the off-road vehicle and drove for about another hour before arriving at the seed market.
Just as they were about to get out, a lizard-like monster suddenly leaped onto their car hood.
Yun Li was startled, and seeing how extremely ugly the lizard-like monster was, her heart raced with fear.
“A-Li, stay inside!”
Almost the moment she saw the lizard-like monster, Tang Congyue knew it would be difficult to deal with, but she still resolutely got out of the car, gripping her watermelon knife as she confronted the creature.
She tried to use her ability to interfere with the monster, only to find that while it was indeed affected, the interference lasted merely a few seconds. Moreover, she discovered the monster’s skin was incredibly thick, her slashes left only shallow wounds.
In their back-and-forth struggle, within less than ten minutes, the monster was covered in wounds. However, these minor injuries meant nothing to the thick-skinned beast. In contrast, Tang Congyue had been struck on the back by the monster’s thick tail, and the area now burned with a sharp pain.
The more it hurt, the colder Tang Congyue’s expression became. She focused all her attention, attempting to extend the duration of her control over the monster.
This time, she felt a throbbing pain at her temple.
Soon, she noticed the monster’s movements had halted. Sensing the right moment, she raised her watermelon knife, intending to plunge it into the monster’s forehead. But a thought crossed her mind, her eyes narrowed slightly, and instead, the sharp blade stabbed into the monster’s eye socket!
“Roar!!!”
The intense pain snapped the monster back to awareness, and its thick, long tail swung toward Tang Congyue. Yet, with quick reflexes, she caught it with her hand.
A flash of ferocity crossed Tang Congyue’s eyes. With a sudden burst of strength, she drove the 35-centimeter watermelon knife deep inside. She twisted her wrist, churning the blade, causing the monster to roar in agony.
Seeing this, Tang Congyue yanked out the watermelon knife, pulling out a stream of foul-smelling blood. Then, repeating her tactic, she thrust the knife into the monster’s other intact eye.
“Roar!!!”
In pain, the monster began thrashing.
Tang Congyue pulled out the watermelon knife and, in the same motion, kicked hard at the monster’s jaw.
She used almost all her strength, sending the several-hundred-pound monster flying until it crashed against a nearby wall.
Huff.
Huff.
Gasping for breath, Tang Congyue sprinted toward the monster. Before it could right itself, she stomped hard on its soft abdomen and, with the blood-stained watermelon knife, forcefully drove it into the monster’s throat.
In less than a few seconds, she pulled out the watermelon knife again and stabbed it back in. She repeated this action several times until the monster’s throat was completely mangled, blood splattering everywhere, with several drops landing on Tang Congyue’s pale cheeks.
Three minutes later, the monster fell silent.
Tang Congyue slowly stopped her movements.
She straightened up, her gaze unusually cold as she stared at the monster’s corpse on the ground.
Seeing that the monster was dead, Yun Li, who was sitting in the off-road vehicle, hesitated for a few seconds before pushing the car door open and running over to Tang Congyue’s side. Just as she was about to speak, she was startled by Tang Congyue’s indifferent expression and icy gaze, especially since she was covered in blood, even on her face.
This version of Tang Congyue was one Yun Li had never seen before. She was frightened and couldn’t utter a single word.
At that moment, Tang Congyue’s dark eyes mechanically shifted, and she slowly turned to look at Yun Li beside her.
“A-Li…”
Yun Li snapped back to reality and noticed that Tang Congyue’s expression had softened considerably. She secretly breathed a sigh of relief.
“Congyue, are you okay?”
“I’m fine.” Tang Congyue shook her head and pulled the watermelon knife out of the monster’s throat. “Put it in the space.”
Yun Li obediently agreed and stored the lizard-like monster in the space. Then, she took out a pack of tissues from the space and handed it to Tang Congyue.
Tang Congyue didn’t take it, only looking at Yun Li with confusion.
Yun Li glanced at her blood-stained cheeks and then at her blood-soaked appearance. Without saying another word, she grabbed Tang Congyue’s wrist, silently recited “enter,” and they were inside the space.
As soon as they entered, Yun Li felt dizzy, but the sensation quickly faded.
“A-Li?”
Seeing that Tang Congyue had completely returned to the familiar version of herself, Yun Li finally dared to speak up. “Look at yourself, you’re all dirty.”
Only then did Tang Congyue notice her disheveled state. She sheepishly rubbed her nose.
“Hurry up and wash. I’ll go get you some clothes.”
Before leaving the base, they had stored the supplies they purchased from the base supermarket in the space, fearing that someone might break in and steal their belongings while they were away.
Fortunately, they had done so, or else Tang Congyue would have no clothes to change into now.
“Sorry to trouble you.”
Seeing Yun Li run into the house, Tang Congyue didn’t hesitate. She stripped off her clothes, leaving only her undergarments, then drew water from the well to wash herself.
By the time Yun Li came out, she saw Tang Congyue almost completely naked. Before she could feel embarrassed, she noticed the red, swollen wounds on Tang Congyue’s back.
“Congyue!” she exclaimed softly.
Hearing Yun Li’s voice, Tang Congyue turned to look at her. “What’s wrong?”
Yun Li quickly walked over with the clothes, her eyes filled with concern. “Are you okay? Your back…”
“Ah, this…” Tang Congyue moved her shoulders, feeling a sharp, burning pain in her back, but she didn’t mind and even smiled to reassure Yun Li. “I’m fine, don’t worry.”
“How can you be fine? It’s all swollen!”
Yun Li walked around to Tang Congyue’s back and stared at the shocking wounds. She wanted to touch them but was afraid of causing her pain.
“Really, I’m fine. Does it look that bad?”
“Yes.”
“But I feel okay.”
“I wonder if there’s a hospital at the base. I think you need to get your wounds treated.”
Tang Congyue took the clothes from Yun Li’s arms and put them on, saying, “Let’s talk back at the base.”
“But…”
“Really, I’m fine.” Tang Congyue patted Yun Li’s head.
“Don’t push yourself.”
“I’m not. If there’s anything wrong, I’ll definitely tell you. Don’t worry.”
Hearing this, Yun Li felt slightly reassured. Thinking of the ugly monster, she cursed fiercely, “It’s all that monster’s fault!”
Tang Congyue’s eyes flashed with a trace of ferocity as she recalled the creature. “It was strong.”
“What?”
“That monster was almost on a completely different level from the ones I’ve encountered before. It was powerful.”
Hearing “it was strong” twice in a row, Yun Li was bewildered. “Was it really that strong?”
As soon as she spoke, she realized she had asked a foolish question. If the monster hadn’t been strong, how could Tang Congyue have gotten injured?
Tang Congyue hummed in agreement. “Where did you put its body?”
“Over there.”
Yun Li led Tang Congyue out of the small farmhouse and pointed to the spot where she had placed the monster.
Tang Congyue walked over, ignoring the monster’s nearly torn throat, and fixed her gaze on its forehead. She then picked up the watermelon knife and tried to stab it into the center of the monster’s forehead, only to find that the knife could only penetrate a shallow layer.
Just as I thought.
Tang Congyue felt relieved that she had chosen to attack its eyes earlier. If she had aimed for the forehead, she would likely have had to struggle even more.
“Congyue?”
“It’s nothing.” Tang Congyue pulled out the watermelon knife. “Let’s go.”
“Okay.”
Yun Li pulled Tang Congyue out of the space.
Back at the seed market, Tang Congyue scanned the area. Seeing no monsters, they entered a shop and began searching for supplies.
…
The seed market stretched along a street with shops on both sides. They didn’t take all the seeds, leaving half behind before returning to the off-road vehicle.
“Let’s go. There’s a shopping mall a few kilometers from here. Let’s check it out.”
After getting into the car, Tang Congyue said this to Yun Li.
Yun Li nodded eagerly like a pecking chick. “Then let’s set off!”
Shopping mall!
Here I come!
For the rest of the journey, they encountered no more monsters and arrived at the mall almost unimpeded.
The mall was three stories high: the first floor was the jewelry section, the second floor was the clothing section, and the third floor was the dining area. Below, the basement level housed a supermarket.
Without a second thought, they headed straight for the supermarket.
Seeing that the supermarket had been left untouched, Yun Li happily wandered between the shelves, storing everything in her space.
Before long, Yun Li felt that all four rooms of the small farmhouse were filled with supplies. With no other choice, she placed the remaining supplies on the black soil next to the farmhouse.
Next, they went to the supermarket warehouse and cleared it out as well.
“Shall we go?”
There were still plenty of supplies left in the supermarket, but Yun Li felt they were useless and didn’t want to waste space in her storage area.
“Let’s go to the second floor.”
The second floor was the clothing section, where they could find the clothes they needed.
“Okay.”
Once on the second floor, Yun Li began happily storing women’s clothing into her space, regardless of whether the styles were to their liking or not.
In less than half an hour, the women’s clothing stores on the second floor were completely emptied.
Seeing Yun Li’s excited expression, Tang Congyue suddenly felt that it was a good thing Yun Li had obtained a space. At the very least, she was happy now, and seeing her happiness made Tang Congyue feel happy too.
“Congyue, I’m ready!”
Yun Li jogged up to Tang Congyue, her fair cheeks flushed pink, making her particularly captivating.
Tang Congyue raised her hand and gently brushed the back of it against Yun Li’s cheek. “So happy?”
“Mm-hmm! It’s a zero-dollar shopping spree, how could I not be happy?”
Tang Congyue couldn’t help but laugh. “Let’s go, we’re heading upstairs.”
They wandered around the third-floor dining area and stored several large refrigerators in their spatial inventory.
After leaving the dining section, Yun Li asked, “Are we going back to the base now? But we haven’t found a vehicle yet…”
“Let’s check out the first floor.”
“Huh?”
“Usually, shopping malls have cars on display on the first floor. I’m not sure if this one does, but we can take a look.”
“Alright, let’s go see.”
“Mm.”
Soon, they descended to the first floor and, after a quick look around, indeed found a brand-new off-road vehicle.
Yun Li leaned in for a closer look and noticed the keys were still in the ignition. She quickly waved Tang Congyue over.
“Congyue, look!”
When Tang Congyue approached, she saw it too.
“Seems our luck is holding up.”
“Let’s store it in the spatial inventory. We can take it out when we’re closer to the base. You’ll drive then, right? You should be able to handle it?”
Yun Li did have a driver’s license, but she didn’t drive often. After a moment’s thought, she replied uncertainly, “I guess so?”
Hearing her lack of confidence, Tang Congyue patted her head. “Believe in yourself.”
She paused, then added, “Even if you wreck the car, it’s fine. We can always find another one.”
Yun Li: “…”
Thanks a lot.
She puffed out her cheeks slightly.
Seeing this, Tang Congyue curved her lips into a smile, leaned down, and kissed Yun Li’s cheek.
“Good girl.”
Her voice was low, carrying a hint of huskiness.
Yun Li couldn’t resist glaring at her, but the other woman straightened up and chuckled softly.
After storing the off-road vehicle in their spatial inventory, they left the mall.
On their way back to the Southern City Base, they weren’t as fortunate this time, they encountered seven or eight monsters along the road.
Tang Congyue didn’t kill all of them. For a few, she used her special ability to command them to leave. The consequence was a throbbing pain at her temples that persisted even after they returned to the base. Being someone accustomed to enduring pain, Tang Congyue remained silent, so Yun Li had no idea she was suffering.
When they were about five kilometers from the Southern City Base, Tang Congyue had Yun Li place two dead mutant beasts in the trunk. She then asked Yun Li to get out, watched her summon another off-road vehicle, and let her drive the newly acquired one back to the base alone.
Throughout the journey, Yun Li mentally prepared herself. Once she climbed into the off-road vehicle, she gave herself a pep talk and followed the car ahead.
Upon returning to the base, Tang Congyue didn’t head straight to the parking lot. Instead, she followed the leading vehicle to a spot some distance away from it.
Yun Li drove over as well.
Shortly after, the car in front stopped. Two people got out, opened the trunk, and together lifted out a large, hefty monster.
Tang Congyue had noticed this place earlier when they left the base.
It was similar to the trading hall, a designated spot specifically for purchasing monster meat.
After the person in front sold their monster, Tang Congyue drove her vehicle forward. She got out, opened the trunk, and effortlessly lifted a monster weighing over a hundred pounds.
She carried them one at a time, her face pale, leaving the purchasing staff staring in astonishment.
“How many pounds?”
Tang Congyue’s voice snapped the purchasing staff out of their daze, and they hurriedly checked the scale.
“A total of five hundred and thirty-six pounds!”
That was the combined weight of the two monsters.
“Exchange all of it for points.”
After converting all five hundred and thirty-six pounds of monster meat into points, Tang Congyue received 10,720 points.
Without counting them, she stuffed the points into her backpack, returned to the off-road vehicle, and drove with Yun Li to the parking lot.
As soon as they arrived and stepped out of the car, a young man approached.
“I’m here to assess the vehicle’s damage.” the young man explained his purpose.
“Go ahead.”
The young man complied and carefully inspected the vehicle. Noting a dent in the front that wouldn’t significantly affect its next use, he said, “There’s a dent in the front. Deduct 20 points. The daily rental fee is 5 points.”
With that, he took out a stack of point cards from his waist pouch. “Here are 175 points. Please keep them safe.”
“Thanks.”
After storing the point cards, Tang Congyue handed the keys to the young man and glanced over to where Yun Li had just parked. She walked straight toward her.
“How do you feel?”
As soon as Yun Li stepped out of the car, she heard Tang Congyue’s question.
“You have no idea, my heart was racing the entire time. Luckily, there were no other vehicles on the road, or I’d have been even more terrified.”
Seeing Yun Li’s lingering fear, Tang Congyue sighed inwardly and reached out to pinch her cheek.
“Is driving really that scary?”
“For me, yes! Back when I was getting my driver’s license, it took me a tremendous effort!” Yun Li spoke as if it were a serious matter.
“That’s a bit of an exaggeration.”
Hearing this, Yun Li rolled her eyes. “Fine, don’t believe me then.”
“Alright, alright, I believe you.”
“You’re being too dismissive.” Yun Li pouted but didn’t press the issue further. Noticing the young man who had assessed the off-road vehicle passing by, she quickly called out to him, “Hey, wait a moment!”
The young man turned around, and upon seeing the exceptionally beautiful girl who had stopped him, his cheeks flushed slightly. “Are you calling me?”
“Yes, yes!”
The young man grew even more bashful. “Is there something you need?”
“Well, we just arrived at the base not long ago and don’t know where the hospital is. Could you point us in the right direction?”
So that was it!
The young man suddenly understood and replied enthusiastically, “The hospital? It’s not far from the square. Just head in the direction of the square, and you’ll see it!”
“Got it. Thanks, buddy!”
“No problem, no problem.”
After ending the conversation, Yun Li pulled Tang Congyue toward the square.
About ten minutes later, they reached the square. Scanning the area, Yun Li spotted the hospital sign and tugged Tang Congyue along in that direction.
On the way, Yun Li asked, “How are you feeling now? Does it still hurt?”
“Not too much.”
“Really?”
“Really, I’m not lying to you.”
Yun Li still didn’t believe it and brought Tang Congyue to the hospital. There, she was shocked by the queue of injured patients, some missing arms or legs, looking utterly miserable.
Sensing Yun Li’s unease, Tang Congyue held her hand in return, offering silent comfort.
After waiting nearly twenty minutes, it was finally their turn. As soon as they faced the doctor, Yun Li explained Tang Congyue’s condition.
The doctor was a very gentle middle-aged woman. Upon hearing Yun Li’s words, she had Tang Congyue remove her clothes and carefully examined her wounds. After confirming that no bones were injured, she wrote a series of characters Yun Li couldn’t understand on a piece of paper and called for a nurse, instructing them to follow the nurse.
Tang Congyue put her clothes back on, held Yun Li’s hand, and followed the nurse.
The nurse retrieved the medication according to the doctor’s prescription, had them pay with points, and then led them to a small room. Only then did she ask Tang Congyue to remove her clothes again to apply the medicine.
Tang Congyue complied. When the nurse saw the shocking wounds, she was momentarily stunned, then carefully applied the medicine. Noticing that Tang Congyue didn’t cry out in pain during the process, the nurse felt a sense of admiration.
Once the medicine was applied, the nurse listed some foods to avoid and advised Tang Congyue to keep the wounds dry for the next few days. She then handed the remaining medication to Yun Li, instructing her to apply it to Tang Congyue morning and evening.
Yun Li repeatedly agreed and thanked the nurse before turning to Tang Congyue.
“How are you feeling now?”
“Much better.”
“Let’s head back then.”
“Okay.”
