Why Won’t the Heroine Break Up With Me? [Quick Transmigration] - Chapter 26
Thwack!
Tang Congyue gripped the handle of the kitchen knife and, with a slight exertion, pulled it out of the monster’s skull.
Staring at the boar-like corpse lying on the ground, a glint of light flashed in Tang Congyue’s dark eyes.
It was her seventh day on patrol, and this monster was the fourth she had slain. Through her experiences, she had confirmed that she had awakened a supernatural ability, currently, by making eye contact, she could disrupt the monster’s movements, which greatly aided her in killing them.
As Tang Congyue was lost in thought, the surviving members of the B-Class patrol team nearby gasped in awe.
“Heavens! Sister Tang took down another monster all by herself!”
“Incredible! If I’m not mistaken, this is the fourth monster she’s single-handedly killed, right?!”
“Four? Oh my…”
“Wow, amazing! Truly amazing!”
“As expected of Sister Tang!”
“With Sister Tang around, there’s no need for us to do anything!”
“Isn’t that great? I certainly don’t dare face monsters anyway…”
“Coward!”
Tang Congyue snapped back to reality, hearing their chatter, and the corner of her eye twitched slightly.
She turned to face them. “What are you all standing around for? Hurry up and drag the monster’s body back to the cafeteria.”
“Got it! We’ll take the monster’s corpse to the cafeteria right away!”
“Also, leave a few people behind to clean up the blood on the ground.”
“Understood!”
With that, two people dragged the monster’s body back to the cafeteria, while three others stayed behind to clean up the bloodstains. The remaining four, led by Tang Congyue, continued their patrol.
Suddenly, she felt an intense gaze fixed on her. Following the sensation, she saw Qian Yang, the same person who had tried to flirt with her last time, staring at her. She frowned slightly but, recalling that Qian Yang hadn’t approached her since that incident, she chose to ignore the stare.
No need to waste energy on insignificant people.
…
At 4 a.m., Tang Congyue led the B-Class patrol team back to the Fifth Cafeteria. Shortly after entering, Zhu Yaqin hurried over, took the kitchen knife from her hand, and gave her a thumbs-up.
“I heard as soon as I woke up, you took down another monster solo.”
Tang Congyue gave a noncommittal “Mm,” offering no further explanation.
“You’re so amazing. When will I ever be as strong as you?”
Zhu Yaqin couldn’t help but imagine herself taking down monsters with a single punch and chuckled to herself.
Tang Congyue had no idea what she was giggling about but said, “You’ll get your chance.”
“Really?”
Zhu Yaqin snapped out of her reverie, not particularly confident in herself, but replied, “Thanks for the encouragement!”
Through their time together, Zhu Yaqin had come to realize that while Tang Congyue might seem aloof, she was genuinely kind-hearted. She felt fortunate to be friends with her.
Tang Congyue didn’t respond, merely giving Zhu Yaqin’s shoulder a light pat.
“Head upstairs. I’m going back on patrol.”
“Stay safe.”
“I will.”
Watching Zhu Yaqin leave the Fifth Cafeteria, Tang Congyue finally made her way back to the second floor.
At this moment, Tang Congyue had assumed Yun Li was already asleep. To her surprise, upon entering, she found Yun Li sitting in a chair playing with her phone. Noticing Tang Congyue’s gaze, Yun Li looked up, and their eyes met. Yun Li’s peach-blossom eyes curved slightly, shimmering as if filled with stars.
In that single glance, Tang Congyue felt a stir. She quickened her pace and approached, gently caressing Yun Li’s cheek once she was near.
“Why aren’t you asleep?”
“I was, but I woke up.”
“Then why not go back to sleep?”
Yun Li didn’t answer, only pursed her lips into a smile.
“What’s going on? You look really happy.”
“Mm, I just had a wonderful dream.”
She dreamed of completing one task after another with excellence, getting promoted, receiving a raise, and reaching the peak of her life!
At the thought, Yun Li couldn’t help but smile again.
Seeing her like this, Tang Congyue grew curious, a rare occurrence for her. She lightly pinched Yun Li’s cheek and asked, “What wonderful dream?”
Yun Li swatted away her mischievous hand and hummed softly, “I’m not telling you.”
Her tsundere demeanor was oddly adorable. Tang Congyue glanced around, making sure no one was paying attention to them, then cupped Yun Li’s face with both hands. Before Yun Li could react, she gently kissed her lips, even lightly nibbling on her lower lip afterward.
Yun Li: “!!!”
She was stunned and instinctively tried to lean back, but Tang Congyue’s hands held her face firmly, leaving her no room to retreat.
“What are you doing? Let go!”
“Are you going to tell me or not?”
Ignoring her, Tang Congyue continued to peck her lips lightly.
Left with no choice, Yun Li gave in. “Fine, I’ll tell you! I’ll tell you, okay?”
Tang Congyue narrowed her eyes and smiled. “Then speak.”
“Let go of me first.”
“You speak first.”
Yun Li was exasperated. She glared at Tang Congyue, hoping to make her release her, but the other woman remained unyielding. After a stalemate of about five seconds, Yun Li gave up.
“Alright, alright, I’ll tell you.”
A faint smile appeared on Tang Congyue’s face.
“I dreamed that I worked hard, got promoted, and got a raise!”
Tang Congyue: “…”
Yun Li could clearly sense Tang Congyue’s stunned silence and felt somewhat displeased. “What’s with that expression?”
“I was just thinking, does someone actually enjoy being a workhorse that much?”
Yun Li’s face flushed, not from shyness, but from anger. “What nonsense are you spouting?!”
“Am I wrong?”
“Of course, you’re wrong!”
Yun Li ignored her and, seeing that Tang Congyue still hadn’t released her, turned her head and bit down hard on Tang Congyue’s finger.
Tang Congyue raised an eyebrow. Wasn’t this an invitation?
With that thought, she moved her finger, her warm fingertip tracing a circle around Yun Li’s tongue.
Yun Li: “!!!”
How infuriating!
Realizing she had made a mistake, Yun Li quickly spat out her finger.
Seeing this, Tang Congyue raised an eyebrow with a hint of regret and said, “It’s the apocalypse now. There’s no chance for you to be a workhorse anymore.”
“That’s not necessarily true.”
“Oh?”
“Haven’t all the novels mentioned it? There will be bases. When we get to one, won’t we still have to work?”
Tang Congyue looked at her in surprise, then curled her lips into a smile. “A-Li, you’re quite clever.”
Yun Li: “…”
She felt like she was being insulted, but she had no proof.
“Alright, let’s not overthink it for now. It’s late, time to sleep.”
Yun Li didn’t want to dwell on the topic either and softly hummed in agreement, “Let’s sleep. Goodnight.”
“Goodnight.”
…
“Did you guys hear something?”
Zhao Jinhe, who was on patrol outside, suddenly stopped and tilted his head to listen.
Luo Zhibo was beside him and, seeing him like this, also pricked up his ears.
“Bang!”
“Bang bang!”
“Huh? Is someone setting off firecrackers?!”
Luo Zhibo looked astonished, but as soon as he finished speaking, Zhao Jinhe slapped his shoulder hard.
“Are you stupid? How could that be firecrackers? That’s clearly gunfire!”
Gun…gunfire?!
Luo Zhibo was dumbfounded.
Meanwhile, Zhao Jinhe’s heart was pounding rapidly. He forced himself to calm down and ordered Luo Zhibo, “I’ll go check it out. You go notify the survivors in the cafeteria and have them all come down!”
After saying this, Zhao Jinhe ran toward the direction of the gunfire.
Luo Zhibo froze for a few seconds before snapping back to reality, his eyes wide open. “Could it be… could it be that the military has come to rescue us?!”
At this thought, Luo Zhibo couldn’t stand still any longer and hurriedly called out to others as he ran back to the cafeteria.
…
Yun Li woke up amidst the noise.
“Mmm… Congyue, what’s going on?”
She rubbed her eyes, looking drowsy.
“They say the military has come to rescue us.”
Hearing this, Yun Li immediately perked up.
“Really?!”
“Most likely?” Tang Congyue frowned slightly. “Let’s go wash up first.”
Yun Li nodded eagerly.
They quickly finished washing up and went down to the first floor, where all the survivors from the cafeteria had gathered. Just then, Zhu Yaqin walked over, about to say something, when Zhao Jinhe returned. Behind him were three soldiers in camouflage uniforms carrying submachine guns, one of whom was a woman.
“Oh my god! The military really is here to rescue us!” Zhu Yaqin exclaimed softly.
Yun Li was also excited, tightly gripping Tang Congyue’s arm.
On the way back, Zhao Jinhe had briefly explained the situation in the cafeteria to the three soldiers. Now that he was back, he loudly instructed everyone to pack their things, they were going to follow the military and leave the school for the survivor base.
At this announcement, the cafeteria erupted in commotion.
Zhao Jinhe then led the female soldier into the kitchen.
The other two soldiers stayed behind, maintaining order and organizing the survivors into a line to exit the cafeteria one by one.
Seeing this, Yun Li couldn’t help but ask, “What about the monster meat if we leave like this?”
They still had quite a bit of monster meat in their refrigerator!
Tang Congyue glanced toward the kitchen. “A-Li, you go line up. I’ll go check the kitchen.”
With that, Tang Congyue headed toward the kitchen. But as soon as she entered, Zhao Jinhe came out with the female soldier. Seeing her, Zhao Jinhe immediately understood her purpose.
“This is Lieutenant Lin Daimei, who is also a spatial ability user.” Zhao Jinhe emphasized the words “spatial ability user.”
“I’ve already asked Lieutenant Lin to store the monster meat and food supplies. They’ll be distributed once we reach the base.”
Spatial ability user?
Base?
Tang Congyue pondered this and nodded to indicate she understood.
“Let’s go out.”
“Mm.”
Tang Congyue left the kitchen and approached Yun Li, quietly explaining the situation regarding Lin Daimei to her.
Hearing this, Yun Li’s lips parted slightly, and she couldn’t help but glance a few more times at the spatial ability user.
After Lin Daimei stepped out, the two soldiers instructed them to exit the cafeteria. They moved quickly, and before long, it was Yun Li’s group’s turn. Only when she saw three large military trucks parked outside did Yun Li truly grasp the reality of the “military rescue.” But moments later, a startled exclamation pulled her attention back.
“Ou Yunru?! It’s great that you’re still alive!”
Yun Li snapped her gaze toward the source of the voice and saw the girl who had scolded her earlier in the library looking excitedly toward the military truck.
From her angle, she couldn’t see what was happening inside the truck, but the mention of the name “Ou Yunru” made her heart skip a beat.
Ou Yunru, Tang Congyue’s destined partner…
She had finally appeared.
