Why Won’t the Heroine Break Up With Me? [Quick Transmigration] - Chapter 22
Wu Ruixin and Fang Huijing discussed it and both decided to make an exchange with Tang Congyue, so they once again approached Tang Congyue and the other person.
Fang Huijing, the petite girl, spoke up: “We have two packs of compressed biscuits here. How much monster meat can they be exchanged for?”
Fang Huijing came from a poor family and had little living expenses, so she had to scrimp and save every day. These two packs of compressed biscuits were something she had bought earlier.
The day she received the delivery happened to be the day the apocalypse descended, so her backpack contained quite a few compressed biscuits. Thanks to these, she and Wu Ruixin didn’t have to eat only one meal a day like others, nor did they suffer from dizziness due to hunger.
Two packs of compressed biscuits?
Hearing this, Yun Li was somewhat surprised. She didn’t answer Fang Huijing’s question but instead looked at Tang Congyue.
Tang Congyue exchanged a glance with Yun Li and then said, “They can be exchanged for two jin of monster meat.”
That much!
Both Fang Huijing and Wu Ruixin couldn’t help but widen their eyes in astonishment.
They had thought that two packs of compressed biscuits would only get them a few liang of meat at best, but they could actually get two jin!
If they ate sparingly, that meat could last them quite a while!
Thinking this, Wu Ruixin felt a surge of excitement, but she didn’t speak, instead looking at Fang Huijing, since the compressed biscuits belonged to her.
Fang Huijing noticed Wu Ruixin’s gaze. Suppressing her excitement, her dark eyes fixed intently on Tang Congyue. “Are you serious? Can we really exchange this for two jin of monster meat?”
They had both heard that eating monster meat could increase one’s strength. For that reason alone, they were willing to exchange for monster meat. If their strength increased, perhaps they could have a chance to defend themselves when facing monsters?
At this thought, Fang Huijing’s heart began to beat rapidly.
“It’s true.”
The meat from that rat-like monster weighed over a hundred jin. If they weren’t generous, how would these survivors be willing to exchange their last remaining food? Besides, if they didn’t eat it, it would just go to waste. It was better to give it to these survivors.
“Then we’ll exchange!” Fang Huijing blurted out, but immediately regretted it and couldn’t help adding, “But we have one condition!”
A condition?
Tang Congyue was slightly taken aback, her delicate eyebrows lifting. “What condition?”
“Can we leave the meat we exchange with you?”
Fang Huijing had heard that Tang Congyue was very strong and generous. She definitely wouldn’t covet their meager possessions, but others might not be the same. So, she wanted to leave the exchanged monster meat with Tang Congyue.
With just that one sentence from Fang Huijing, Tang Congyue understood her meaning. Without hesitation, she nodded and said, “Okay.”
Seeing Tang Congyue agree, Fang Huijing grew excited again. “Tang Congyue, you’re such a good person!”
Tang Congyue: “…”
She had actually been given a “good person” card.
Yun Li, standing to the side, secretly laughed.
Tang Congyue caught a glimpse of it out of the corner of her eye and felt a bit helpless, but a trace of affection flickered in her eyes.
“I’m not here at 8 p.m. and 4 a.m. You can come find me at other times.” Tang Congyue said to Fang Huijing and the other.
“Mm… mm… we know! We won’t trouble you too much!”
With that, Fang Huijing took two packs of compressed biscuits from the backpack she carried in front of her and placed them on the dining table.
Soon enough, Tang Congyue packed the compressed biscuits from the dining table into her backpack. Fang Huijing had her back turned to the other survivors, so none of them noticed their actions.
Once the exchange was complete, Fang Huijing linked arms with Wu Ruixin and left.
Yun Li watched them go, then turned her gaze to Tang Congyue.
“I never expected someone would actually trade with us.”
Hearing this, Tang Congyue merely smiled.
…
Time passed bit by bit. Aside from Fang Huijing, no other survivors came to Tang Congyue to make an exchange.
Tang Congyue didn’t mind this. When it was time to collect the daily meal, she took Yun Li to join the queue.
“I wonder what we’re eating today.”
Every day at this time, Yun Li felt like she was opening a mystery box.
“We’ll find out soon enough.”
As soon as she finished speaking, Tang Congyue saw the survivor at the front of the line receive a rice ball.
“Hmm, we’re having rice balls today.” Tang Congyue remarked.
“Ah, rice balls aren’t tasty.”
“Eating them with braised pork shouldn’t make them too bad.”
Yun Li thought it over seriously for a few seconds and decided Tang Congyue was right, so she stopped complaining about the rice balls.
…
After collecting their rice balls, Tang Congyue reheated the leftover braised pork, and the two ate the rice balls with it.
Their spot was quite far from the other survivors, but those survivors couldn’t help glancing over.
“I want to eat meat.”
A slightly chubby boy sniffed, his eyes fixed intently on Tang Congyue and Yun Li.
“Do you have anything to trade with them?”
The boy fell silent.
“Besides that, you could join the patrol team.”
The boy went quiet again. After a long pause, he timidly spoke up, “If I join the patrol team, wouldn’t I just be offering myself as a meal to the monsters?”
“You fool, you could join Tang Congyue’s team! She’s a beast who can take down monsters single-handedly. With her around, why be afraid of monsters?”
“Oh, right!” The chubby boy’s eyes lit up. “I’ll go now!”
With that, he stuffed the rest of his rice ball into his mouth and hurried downstairs.
Another boy, seeing this, casually followed behind him.
…
At 7:50, Tang Congyue arrived on the first floor and headed toward Xiao Huiwen and the other three. To her surprise, she noticed several unfamiliar faces gathered around.
She paused briefly, about to look away, when someone explained.
“Sister Tang, these are the new members joining the patrol team.”
Tang Congyue, addressed as “Sister Tang,” felt a mix of emotions. She nodded to indicate she understood, but soon she noticed an intensely fervent gaze fixed on her. She looked over inquisitively and saw a fair-skinned, slightly chubby boy staring at her. When their eyes met, his face brightened, and he gave a silly grin.
Tang Congyue: “…”
She quietly averted her gaze and waited for the members of Class A to return.
Just then, a boy approached Tang Congyue.
“Sister Tang.”
Tang Congyue: “…”
She really wasn’t used to this form of address.
“Sister Tang, you’re amazing. Can you tell me how you kill monsters?”
Tang Congyue looked over and saw a boy with delicate features asking the question. She blinked slowly and replied in a calm tone, “Just kill them.”
“Uh…” The boy was caught off guard and laughed awkwardly. “Sister Tang, you’re such a joker.”
Tang Congyue didn’t respond.
Seeing her reaction, the boy felt too embarrassed to say more and retreated to his original spot, rubbing his nose.
At 7:59, the members of Class A returned. By now, Tang Congyue noticed that their group had also grown from five to seven people. Since their own Class B had increased significantly in number, she wasn’t particularly surprised.
Taking the kitchen knife handed over by someone from Class A, the group of eight walked out of the cafeteria.
Xiao Huiwen and the other three still led the way, while the remaining three surrounded Tang Congyue. The boy who had spoken with her earlier deliberately stayed especially close to her.
Tang Congyue couldn’t stand it and shot him a cold glare.
“Don’t get so close to me. Walk ahead.”
“But I’m scared.” the boy said, blinking innocently.
“If you’re scared, go back. The patrol team isn’t short on people.”
The boy: “…”
Xiao Huiwen also noticed the situation. Seeing Tang Congyue’s icy expression, he walked over, hooked an arm around the boy’s neck, and dragged him forward.
“Come with me.”
“What are you doing? Let go of me!”
“If you’re a guy, be a little braver. What’s the point of always clinging to a girl?”
“Mind your own business!”
“Hey, I’m making it my business!”
Seeing that they were on the verge of arguing, Tang Congyue’s voice turned cold again.
“Do you two want to attract monsters by arguing?”
They fell silent.
Realizing he couldn’t break free from Xiao Huiwen, the boy gave up struggling. Still, he couldn’t resist turning his head to cast a pitiful look at Tang Congyue.
She simply pretended not to see it.
