Chapter 46: Sleeping — Then Tonight, We Just Sleep
Su Wen withdrew his gaze and fell silent, arms crossed. A few seconds later, he looked up. Yun Shu’s eyes were burning with such intensity that he looked ready to pounce on him right then and there.
“…” After a long while, Su Wen pulled out his phone to check the time. It was 20:37. He replied, “It’s so late. Is there enough time?”
Yun Shu froze for a solid two seconds. “What? What do you mean ‘not enough time’?”
Su Wen put his phone away, ignoring Yun Shu’s confusion, and started talking to himself. “Counting the pre-showering, post-cleaning, the foreplay and middle act, and the post-care… it would take at least two to three hours, right?”
Yun Shu was stunned. His brain short-circuited for a moment, then he stammered, “No… uh…”
Su Wen looked at him. “Don’t you want to do it?”
“I don’t—no, it’s not that I don’t want to, I do, it’s just…”
“Sigh,” Su Wen expressed his understanding and patted his shoulder. “It’s normal to be nervous, Yun Shu. Don’t worry.” He raised an eyebrow. “I’ll prepare well and strive to give you a perfect experience.”
Yun Shu: “…”
When it came to being unable to follow someone’s train of thought, Yun Shu chose the “if you can’t beat ’em, join ’em” strategy. “Aren’t we resting tomorrow? Why isn’t there enough time?”
This was hard to explain. He couldn’t exactly say, Because a snow leopard spirit visits at night. How would that make him sound anything other than insane?
Su Wen patted his shoulder. “Only with proper rest can you have a healthy physique, and then…” He paused and continued, “I can give you a wonderful experience.”
“Alright then.”
Su Wen thought he had understood and breathed a sigh of relief, only to hear him follow up with: “Then tonight, let’s just sleep normally?”
Before Su Wen could react, Yun Shu circled behind him, wrapped his arms around him, and lowered his head. His soft lips brushed against the back of Su Wen’s ear.
Warm breath puffed against the tip of his ear, causing heat to rise. Su Wen shook his head, trying to clear his mind and push him away. “Then go back to your room.”
Yun Shu’s arms tightened around his waist. “No.”
“Then where do you want to sleep?” Su Wen regretted the question as soon as it left his mouth—it was a classic case of asking what he already knew.
“Next to you.”
Su Wen tried to laugh it off and dodge the issue. “How about in two days? Let me prepare for two days first.”
Yun Shu remained unmoved. “That’s what you said two days ago.”
“Then… Two days!” Su Wen wanted to say more, but then realized it had been two days. He could only force an explanation. “Is it possible that this ‘two days’ is just a demonstrative pronoun and doesn’t strictly mean exactly forty-eight hours?”
Yun Shu gave a soft huff. “That’s not what you said two days ago.”
He released one hand and held it in front of Su Wen, gesturing a ‘two’, then bending his middle finger to show a ‘one’, mimicking Su Wen’s tone from that time: “Just two days. Two days will pass quickly. First two, then one.”
He circled his fingers into a ‘zero’. “Now it’s Day 0. You can’t back out.”
Su Wen: “…”
Seeing his apparent reluctance, Yun Shu held his waist, head hanging low, his voice muffled. “Don’t you like me? Why won’t you let me sleep next to you?”
“Sigh, that’s because…” Su Wen really hadn’t thought of a good excuse.
Yun Shu finished the sentence for him: “Is it because you haven’t consulted with the intruder yet?”
Su Wen: “…” He really wanted to tear Yun Shu’s mouth shut. If they were strictly talking about it, Yun Shu was the “third wheel” here.
After thinking for a long time, Su Wen’s brain quickly mapped out an escape route for Yun Shu. His eyes darted around, and he looked at him mysteriously. “Are you sure you want to sleep with me?”
Yun Shu’s grey-green eyes widened. “Sure, sure.”
“Fine then.” Before he could finish, Yun Shu’s lips landed on his cheek. Su Wen immediately reached out to cover his mouth. “Enough, enough. Let me finish speaking first.”
Yun Shu was disobedient. He opened his mouth—clicked—and bit Su Wen’s hand.
Su Wen froze for two seconds, pulled his hand back, and smacked the base of his palm against Yun Shu’s forehead. “No biting!”
Yun Shu blinked his large eyes. “Aren’t we sleeping?”
Su Wen’s mind went blank for a moment, and he actually forgot what he was going to tell him.
It wasn’t until he lay down in bed, one hand pillowed behind his head and the other rubbing the fluffy head that was incessantly butting his stomach, that he remembered.
He pushed Yun Shu’s head aside, got out of bed barefoot, and padded over to the window. He pulled the curtain back to open a small crack, then scrambled back under the covers.
Yun Shu was propping himself up, not having had time to react to being pushed away before Su Wen was back, moving his head back to its original position.
“Just you wait.”
Su Wen said this mysteriously. Yun Shu played along. “Wait for what?”
“Wait to run for your life,” he pointed toward the door. “When the time comes, pull the door open and run.”
Yun Shu’s lips twitched. He turned and hugged Su Wen’s waist, nuzzling his head hard. “Is your ‘little third’ going to beat me up?”
“Shh,” Su Wen looked around before lowering his voice. “Actually, you and I…” He leaned into Yun Shu’s ear. “…are having an affair.”
“Actually,” he added, “you are the ‘little third’.”
Yun Shu propped his head up on one hand and watched him act as if it were real, occasionally playing along. “Then if I get into a fight with the ‘First Wife’ brother, who will you help?”
Su Wen pointed at himself. “Me?”
Yun Shu nodded, looking at him expectantly.
“I choose to run for my life in the opposite direction.”
Yun Shu: “…Heartless and fickle.”
Su Wen increased the pressure of his hand and rubbed his head. “Escapism is a man’s nature.”
Yun Shu didn’t care about the escapism. As long as the person was here, no matter how much he escaped, he was right here. He moved forward, getting closer to Su Wen until they were almost pressed together.
Su Wen extended a hand, keeping him a palm’s width away. “Why are you sticking so close?”
Yun Shu straightened up, hands bracing on either side of Su Wen. “To block your escape route.”
Su Wen patted his face, a provocative smile curling his lips. “If anyone’s running, it’s you. Your ‘First Wife’ brother won’t hit me; he’ll definitely only catch you and bite… mm…”
Yun Shu cradled the back of his head, and before he could finish, he sealed his lips.
Truthfully, his only prior experience with kissing was from television. The first kiss scene he had ever watched was a romance film starring Su Wen. In the movie, Su Wen’s eyes were closed, tears in his eyes, as he kissed the heroine goodbye with a face full of pain.
Everyone in the theater was either crying over the separation or quietly critiquing their acting—everyone except Yun Shu. He had seen Su Wen’s trembling eyelashes, his soft pink lips, and even the tears at the corners of his eyes seemed to be shrouded in a thin, pink mist.
Yun Shu’s heart had raced. He had pressed his hand against his heart, but couldn’t calm it down.
Now, he cupped Su Wen’s face, unwilling to leave his lips for even a second. His brain was filled with dopamine, thinking only: a little more, just a little more.
Su Wen couldn’t take it anymore. He reached out, gripped Yun Shu’s chin with some force, and moved his face away. Panting, he complained, “Even if your technique is passable, you can’t kiss like that, understand?”
Yun Shu hung his head and looked up, once again looking pitiful. “It’s been three days since we kissed.”
Su Wen tapped his head lightly. “That was for the Mountain God festival, okay?”
“The festival is over.” Yun Shu was perfectly justified as he leaned back in.
“Don’t you think you’re a bit too obsessed with kissing?”
Yun Shu’s voice was soft. “Only with you.”
“Even so…” Su Wen’s words were swallowed up again.
He sighed inwardly. At least it was better than the random licking; it was actually becoming quite comfortable. Thinking this, he wrapped his arms around Yun Shu’s neck and deepened the kiss.
Outside, the cold wind howled. The chill seeped through the crack in the window, making the curtains flutter wildly.
Click.
The curtains settled.
The person on the bed was lying on his side, his long eyelashes trembling slightly—he had likely only just fallen asleep. Yun Shu gently brushed against his swollen lips, suppressing the urge to lean in again. He lay by the edge of the bed, his gaze practically nailed to Su Wen’s face.
Exhaustion from the day must have set in; Su Wen was sleeping so deeply that he didn’t wake even as a large hand kept stroking him.
As a snow leopard, Yun Shu had intuitively mastered the human social guide: Give him an inch, and he’ll take a mile. He moved silently, inching onto the bed bit by bit. Between the spacious side and the narrow gap, he decisively chose to lift the quilt, pull Su Wen’s arm over, and burrow into his embrace.
“Baby…”
Yun Shu instinctively looked up. Su Wen’s eyes were closed; he seemed to still be asleep.
“Stop it…” After saying this, he even tightened his hold on Yun Shu and patted his back gently.
Yun Shu froze. It took him a long while to realize that Su Wen was talking to the snow leopard, not him. His feelings were complicated, but he couldn’t put them into words.
A few seconds later, Yun Shu tightened his arms, tucked himself into the embrace, and nuzzled Su Wen’s chest. Once his nose was filled with the faint scent, Yun Shu fell asleep contentedly.
Not two seconds later, the person he was holding moved again. Yun Shu, who was just about to fall asleep, opened his eyes and looked up to see Su Wen looking around groggily. He looked toward the window, then the door, and then searched the other side of the bed for a long time, finding nothing.
“Where’s my leopard…?”
His gaze shifted back and forth, finally meeting Yun Shu’s in his arms.
Even though his eyes were open, his brain was clearly still shut down. He looked at Yun Shu, first nodding, then shaking his head, then asking again: “Where’s my leopard?”
Yun Shu played dumb too. “Where’s your leopard?”
After a bit of back and forth, Su Wen finally realized something. “Did it not come today?”
“Wasn’t it here yesterday?”
“Is it not coming anymore?”
His mind was entirely occupied by the snow leopard. Yun Shu frowned, feeling a bit annoyed. His tail swished behind him once. He reached back, grabbed it, and moved it in front of Su Wen. “Right here.”
Su Wen’s half-asleep IQ was only about three years old. He grabbed the tail, didn’t think or say anything, and fell back into a deep sleep hugging the tail.
Leaving Yun Shu, the leopard, lying there with a heart pounding wildly.
