Why Did the Top Alpha Suddenly Stop Acting Out? - Chapter 65
The first snow of the season drifted all night outside the warm room, until the camellias could no longer hold themselves up and quietly fell asleep.
As the night faded and dawn painted the sky, the two inside remained entwined in slumber.
Time flowed swiftly in the peace of their rest. Outside, the sun climbed high, yet indoors, the pair still slept soundly.
Sunlight streamed through the floor-to-ceiling windows, casting its rays directly onto the bed. Squinting against the brightness, Yi Qian slowly opened her eyes to find Ye Shuyi’s serene sleeping face before her. Her eyes were lightly closed, her lashes half-veiling her gaze, her cheeks flushed with a soft pink hue. The corners of her lips curled slightly, as if lost in a sweet dream.
Yi Qian’s furrowed brow gradually relaxed, a faint smile tugging at her lips. She gently tucked a stray lock of hair behind Ye Shuyi’s ear before leaning down to press a tender kiss against her fluttering lashes.
Glancing at her phone, she saw it was already noon. Carefully, she withdrew her arm from beneath Ye Shuyi and slipped out of bed as quietly as possible.
In the kitchen, she opened the fridge only to find it nearly empty, save for a few bottles of water.
Pulling out her phone, she typed out a long list while walking back to the living room. Once sent, she switched to her contacts and dialed a number.
The call was answered promptly. “Miss Yi, how may I assist you?”
Yi Qian replied, “I’ve sent you a list of ingredients. Have everything prepared and delivered to me as soon as possible.”
“Understood,” came the crisp response.
After hanging up, Yi Qian freshened up in the bathroom. Just as she stepped out, the doorbell rang.
Opening the door, she found three men in tailored suits, each holding a box. They bowed respectfully upon seeing her. The leader spoke, “Miss Yi, these are all the ingredients you requested.”
Nodding, Yi Qian stepped aside to let them in. The three moved with practiced efficiency, organizing the ingredients in the fridge before taking their leave.
With the kitchen now stocked, Yi Qian set to work.
Time slipped by unnoticed as she busied herself. Once lunch was ready, she returned to the bedroom to find Ye Shuyi still curled up peacefully. A smile tugged at her lips unbidden.
Picking up a feather quill from the nightstand, she climbed onto the bed and hovered over Ye Shuyi, teasing the feather against the tip of her nose like one might play with a cat. “Wake up, sleepyhead~”
Ye Shuyi slowly cracked her eyes open, reaching up to swat at Yi Qian’s hand. “Stop it,” she mumbled, voice thick with sleep. “Let me rest a little longer.”
“It’s already two in the afternoon, sweetheart.” Yi Qian freed her hand, only to grasp both of Ye Shuyi’s wrists and pull her into her arms. Cradling the pliant warmth against her, she stroked her hair soothingly. “Eat something first, then you can go back to sleep. Come on, up you get.”
Ye Shuyi nuzzled her face against Yi Qian’s chest like a drowsy kitten, her voice muffled. “Then go get my clothes for me.”
Yi Qian cupped her chin, tilting her face up with a playful warning. “Don’t rub against me like that, or you’ll start a fire. Unless you’re willing to put it out, in which case, by all means, keep going.”
Her voice trailed off softly, laced with temptation.
Blinking up at her with hazy eyes, Ye Shuyi wrinkled her nose and pouted. “Then go fetch my clothes for me.”
The lingering tone trailed off, almost like a coquettish plea.
The afternoon sunlight filtered through the sheer curtains, scattering fragmented rays across the floor, some of them catching on Ye Shuyi’s upturned profile. The delicate glow added a touch of hazy beauty to her already lovely face.
Yi Qian gazed at her, unable to resist cupping her cheeks and pressing a soft kiss to them, as if afraid to disturb the serenity of this picturesque moment. She murmured gently, “I’ll go get it for you, so hurry up and get up.”
Ye Shu nodded obediently.
But the moment Yi Qian left, she immediately burrowed back under the covers, closing her eyes and slipping back into slumber.
When Yi Qian returned from the walk-in closet with clothes in hand, she wasn’t surprised to find the figure on the bed still peacefully asleep. Shaking her head with a helpless smile, she set the clothes down by the bedside, climbed onto the bed, lifted the blanket, and wrapped her arms around Ye Shu’s waist from behind. Leaning close to her ear, she whispered, “Still this sleepy?”
Ye Shuyi caught Yi Qian’s wandering hand beneath the covers, her voice still rough with sleep. “Do you even remember how you wore me out last night?”
Freeing her hand, Yi Qian turned the woman in her arms to face her, brushing their noses together before murmuring, “Weren’t you enjoying yourself last night, baby? If you really don’t want to get up and eat, then I’m hungry, let me have something special instead?”
The warm breath tickled her skin, and Ye Shuyi turned her head away to avoid Yi Qian’s approaching lips, breaking free from her embrace to sit up. She quickly realized something and fumbled with the blanket, wrapping it tightly around herself like a dumpling. Her voice faltered slightly, as if embarrassed. “I-I’m up.”
Yi Qian sat up as well, leaning close to her ear again. “Baby, how many times have we seen each other bare? Still shy?”
The sticky warmth against her ear sent a tingling sensation across her skin. Ye Shuyi pushed her away, feigning composure. “Hand me my clothes.”
Yi Qian hopped off the bed, picked up the clothes, and held them out, only to pull them back just as Ye Shuyi reached for them. With a grin, she teased, “How about I help you change?”
Ye Shuyi’s hand froze mid-air for a second before she leaned forward and snatched the clothes away. “I have hands. Get out.”
Yi Qian crossed her arms, watching her from the bedside with an amused gaze before relenting. “Fine. But just a heads-up, if I have to come back in to wake you again later, then neither of us is leaving this room. We’ll just, pick up where we left off last night.”
With that, she left the room.
She didn’t walk away, though, instead leaning lazily against the wall to wait.
This time, Ye Shuyi didn’t linger in bed. Soon, the door opened, and she stepped out.
Yi Qian walked up to her, ruffling her hair with a doting tone. “Good girl.”
When they reached the dining room, Ye Shuyi frowned slightly at the lavish spread before slowly turning to the woman beside her. “Are you trying to fatten me up like a pig?”
Suppressing a smile, Yi Qian placed her hands on Ye Shuyi’s shoulders and guided her to a seat. “No, I just figured after all that exercise last night, you deserve a good replenishment today.”
Ye Shuyi swatted away the hand resting on her shoulder and sighed, “It’s broad daylight. Can’t you have something brighter in mind?”
“Exactly,” Yi Qian replied matter-of-factly. “I was just thinking about properly nourishing you today that’s very bright. Unless, you’re the one thinking about something less wholesome?”
Ye Shuyi: “……”
Fine, as long as she’s happy.
A table for two, a picture of tranquil companionship.
Ding-dong…
The peaceful mealtime atmosphere was abruptly interrupted when Ye Shuyi picked up her phone to see Song Kechi forwarding a link, followed immediately by a message: “Shuyi, check the trending topics! Tsk tsk, your partner openly deceived you on the show, this is huge!”
Glancing at the person across the table, who was watching her with curious confusion, Ye Shiyi silently clicked the link without explanation.
The sensational headline screamed for attention: “Yi Qian Deceives Ye Shuyi.”
The video clip showed a segment from the reality show “My Symbiotic Relationship with My Agent” the haunted house livestream where Yi Qian handed Ye Shuyi a microphone, claiming all participants had to sing “Ghosts and Monsters, Go Away” five times to receive their next clue. Just as Ye Shuyi finished singing and returned the mic, the footage cut to reveal Yi Qian’s actual clue card:
Clue: One participant must sing “Ghosts and Monsters, Go Away” five times, lasting exactly 44 seconds.
Understanding dawned as Ye Shuyi’s eyebrow arched involuntarily. She looked up to find Yi Qian simultaneously raising her head from her own phone screen, wearing a guilty expression having just received the same trending link from her assistant Fang Xin.
“Care to explain?” Ye Shuyi asked slowly.
“Well!” Yi Qian drew out the word, countless excuses flashing through her mind before settling on a smirk. “Call it variety show instincts? Just creating some entertainment value?”
Seeing the dissatisfied frown across the table, she shrugged and came clean: “Fine, it was to coax a certain stubborn, angry someone.”
The frown softened into a suppressed smile that Ye Shuyi quickly schooled into neutrality. “Who’s stubborn?”
“Me,” Yi Qian answered without hesitation, locking eyes with her. “Obviously I’m the tongue-tied one who can’t communicate properly, resorting to cheap tricks.”
The smile broke through as Ye Shuyi nodded approvingly and picked up her chopsticks. She meticulously shelled a crayfish, removing head and tail before extending the peeled meat toward Yi Qian.
Yi Qian eyed the offering uncertainly. “For me?”
“For the air.”
Despite her words, Ye Shuyi kept her hand outstretched. When Yi Qian remained motionless, she began withdrawing it. “Never mind then.”
The wide table forced Yi Qian to spring up, catching the retreating hand. She leaned down to claim the morsel with her teeth, her tongue incidentally swiping the sauce-coated fingertips.
Ye Shuyi’s body stiffened slightly as she tried to withdraw her hand, but the other woman seemed to anticipate her movement, tightening her grip to prevent escape.
“Don’t be in such a hurry. We shouldn’t waste what’s on your fingers.”
Unable to break free, Ye Shuyi glanced at her briefly before averting her gaze, her body trembling uncontrollably.
Yi Qian’s tongue traced along the fingertips, her eyes lifting to watch the woman gritting her teeth in restraint. The corners of her mouth curled upward uncontrollably, like a fox who’d gotten her way.
After licking the juice clean from the fingers, Yi Qian closed her lips gently around the fingertip, giving it a light nip.
The finger’s owner immediately jerked her hand back, turning to stare at the culprit with wide eyes. The corners of her eyes were faintly red, her gaze shimmering with unshed moisture as she spoke in a voice tinged with something unnameably damp: “Yi Qian, are you a dog?”
Her tone carried the cadence of accusation yet held no real force, sounding more like a plaintive complaint.
Perfectly satisfied, Yi Qian leaned back in her chair, her undisguised smile fixed on the woman across from her. “If you say I am, then I am.”
Ye Shuyi shot her a glare before pointedly ignoring her, continuing to eat as if nothing had happened.
Observing her expression, Yi Qian stood and circled the table to sit beside her, tilting her head. “Are you angry?”
As if she hadn’t heard, Ye Shuyi kept eating without response.
Yi Qian extended her hand in offering, coaxing: “Want to bite me back?”
