Why Did the Top Alpha Suddenly Stop Acting Out? - Chapter 55
“My wife isn’t feeling well, baby, show me some pity?”
Ye Shuyi frowned slightly.
Yi Qian continued nuzzling against her neck, her voice silky: “I promise, just once tonight.”
With that, she kicked the car door shut and carried her all the way into the house, through the living room, and straight to the bathroom.
Placing her under the showerhead, Yi Qian wasted no time in stripping off her coat and tossing it aside. She then turned on the water, and the spray cascaded down like scattered petals, quickly soaking Ye Shuyi’s white shirt until it clung to her, faintly revealing the alluring curves beneath.
Yi Qian embraced her from behind, pressing her body against Ye Shuyi’s back. Her hand unerringly flicked one of the sensitive peaks on the woman in her arms, drawing a soft, muffled moan as Ye Shuyi melted against her.
“Your body’s so excited, yet your mouth is still so stubborn,” Yi Qian murmured against her neck, her breath teasing. “How do I get my baby’s lips to soften?”
“It’s because you’re touching me in weird places,” Ye Shuyi weakly protested, catching Yi Qian’s wandering fingers. “Stop…”
The last word was swallowed as Yi Qian captured her lips in a searing kiss.
After stealing every last bit of air from her lungs, Yi Qian nipped lightly at her lower lip and whispered, “See? Your lips are so sweet and soft. Why do you keep saying such contrary things?”
Ye Shuyi turned her head, nuzzling against Yi Qian’s cheek, and wrapped her arms around her waist, her breath warm and pleading. “Wife, hurry up~”
Yi Qian’s eyes darkened instantly. “Wife will take care of you right now…”
With that, she lowered her head and bit down on the most vulnerable spot on Ye Shuyi’s neck.
In the room where the scent of first snow intertwined with the fragrance of tea roses, the snowfall gradually lightened, only to be ensnared by the tea rose’s vines. “Don’t go, more~”
“Baby, you have a match tomorrow.”
“It’s fine, it’s in the afternoon. Wife~ please~”
……
The next afternoon, Yi Qian was awakened by the ringing of her phone. The sun had already climbed high, casting only a sliver of light beneath the curtains.
Yi Qian stirred, rubbing her temples. Before she could move, the person nestled in her arms tightened their hold with a hint of displeasure.
She looked down, her gaze tender as she studied the woman in her arms, then pressed a kiss to her slightly furrowed brow before reaching for the phone.
Glancing at the caller ID, Yi Qian’s brows knitted. She carefully extricated herself from the embrace and left the room before answering.
“Hello?” The woman on the other end didn’t immediately launch into a tirade like last time. Instead, her voice was unnervingly sweet. “My precious daughter, are you busy right now?”
Yi Qian arched a brow, her tone indifferent. “She’s still asleep.”
“Oh, it’s Xiao Yi! Did I wake you two?” The woman’s voice remained patient and gentle, unfazed by Yi Qian’s coldness.
“Auntie, you really have a knack for calling at the worst times,” Yi Qian replied flatly, her voice devoid of emotion, like a robot. “Do you need something from Shuyi? I can pass it along, or you can call back later.”
Clearly, she had no interest in further conversation.
“It’s actually nothing major, I just wanted to ask Shuyi if she’s coming home for New Year’s tomorrow,” the woman stated the purpose of her call.
“Is that all?” Yi Qian didn’t ask further.
“Yes,” the woman replied patiently. “Then I’ll trouble Xiao Yi to pass the message along. If Shuyi comes back tomorrow, I’d love to see you come along too. I’ll prepare something delicious for you both.”
“Thank you for the invitation,” Yi Qian declined firmly. “But I have plans tomorrow. If there’s nothing else, I’ll hang up now.”
With that, she ended the call, placed the phone on the table, glanced at the bright sunlight outside, and turned toward the kitchen.
In the bedroom, Ye Shuyi rolled over, reaching out to touch the space beside her, only to find it empty.
She lifted her head and looked around the sheets and blankets beside her were cold, the warmth long gone. She had no idea when the other person had gotten up.
Picking up the phone on the nightstand, she unlocked it with Face ID. The moment the photo on the screen appeared, she froze for a second.
She never used her own photos as wallpapers or lock screens for any electronic devices, she found it awkward.
Yet this phone’s wallpaper was a picture of her. Clearly, this wasn’t her phone.
She locked the screen again, then held it up to her face. The phone unlocked once more.
Staring at her own image on the screen, she couldn’t help but zone out slightly.
After all these years… she could still unlock Yi Qian’s phone.
She opened the contacts list, and when she saw the note for the pinned number, the corners of her eyes lifted unconsciously.
Pressing the call button, she waited as the ringtone played for a while before the call connected, followed by a voice brimming with laughter: “Baby, you’re awake?”
“Where are you now?” Ye Shuyi asked.
“In the kitchen, making something delicious for you,” Yi Qian replied cheerfully. “Since you’re up, go freshen up. By the time you come out, it should be ready.”
“Mm.”
With that, Ye Shuyi hung up.
Wrapped in a thin blanket, she got out of bed and walked to the walk-in closet. She circled the section with clothes in her size, about to grab a velvet loungewear set, but then paused, as if remembering something. Slowly, she turned toward the section with Yi Qian’s sizes.
She stopped in front of the wardrobe dedicated to shirts and picked out a white one with a row of tiny red hearts along the hem. Slipping it on, the fabric just barely covered her thighs.
Standing in front of the full-length mirror, she buttoned it up one by one, leaving the top three undone.
In the kitchen, Yi Qian was ladling freshly cooked seafood congee when a warm body pressed against her from behind, arms wrapping around her waist.
Yi Qian smirked slightly. Setting down the bowl and spoon, she turned around, hands supporting the other’s waist. But the sight before her made her pause briefly before she quickly recovered, leaning down to nuzzle against the exposed skin, her voice a breathy whisper: “Baby~ You’re not wearing what you should, not buttoning what you should… Are you trying to skip the competition?”
Ye Shuyi laughed and pushed her away. “I wasn’t planning anything. I just thought… it’d be more comfortable to dress casually at home.”
Yi Qian leaned in again, pressing soft kisses along her collarbone, her tongue lightly tracing the dip between, her tone intoxicated: “Oh? So wearing my clothes is what makes you comfortable?”
“Stop fooling around.” Ye Shuyi lifted her head with a smile. “Even if I don’t have a competition, you still need to go to rehearsal this afternoon. Be good.”
Frowning slightly, Yi Qian pulled her closer by the collar and began buttoning it up. “Baby, if you break the rules like this again… I’ll definitely deal with you right then and there.”
Ye Shuyi playfully punched her shoulder. “Didn’t you nickname me ‘Rogue’? Seems like I’m living up to your expectations.”
“What’s wrong? Not happy?” Yi Qian nuzzled her nose affectionately.
“Why ‘Rogue’?” Ye Shuyi looked genuinely puzzled.
Truth be told, she had wondered what Yi Qian might have saved her as in her phone, but never expected this.
“During our first proper interaction, weren’t you being quite the rogue?” Yi Qian murmured against her collarbone, each word dripping with affection.
Ye Shuyi lowered her gaze, as if recalling, then suddenly realized. “You mean that time at the noodle shop?”
“Not just that time. Wasn’t every tutoring session after that you forcing me?” Yi Qian pinched the waist of the woman in her arms. “Hmm? My little rogue?”
Ye Shuyi arched an eyebrow lazily. “And none of it was your own choice?”
Resting her chin on Ye Shuyi’s shoulder, Yi Qian readily admitted, “It was all my choice. I wanted you to be my rogue.”
Satisfied, Ye Shuyi curled her lips and pushed her away. “Hurry up and finish cooking. I’m going to change.”
Yi Qian’s lips brushed against the faint rosy peak before her, murmuring, “Don’t change. This looks just fine.”
Ye Shuyi closed her eyes briefly, her throat moving involuntarily, then pushed Yi Qian away and quickly fled the kitchen.
Watching the hastily retreating figure, Yi Qian chuckled helplessly. Such a bold yet timid little rogue.
When Ye Shuyi reappeared, she was fully dressed, a loose collarless sweater over a white button-up shirt fastened to the top, paired with black skinny jeans that accentuated her long, slender legs. The entire look was immaculate and exuded an air of restrained allure.
Leaning against the dining table, Yi Qian eyed her appreciatively. “Baby, after what just happened, it feels like no matter what you wear, you’re trying to seduce me.” Her teasing tone lingered on the last words.
Ye Shuyi walked over and lightly tapped her forehead. “What exactly is going on in this head of yours?”
Yi Qian wrapped her arms around Ye Shuyi’s waist, nuzzling her stomach like an affectionate puppy. “It’s filled with thoughts of my most beautiful, adorable, irresistible wife.”
“Such smooth talk.” Ye Shuyi pushed her away with a finger to her forehead.
Yi Qian laughed and let go, sliding a bowl toward her. “I’ll stop teasing. Eat up.”
Ye Shuyi nodded and sat down to begin her meal.
The dining room fell quiet, save for the occasional clink of a spoon against ceramic.
After a long pause, Yi Qian suddenly spoke up. “Oh, your mom called earlier. She asked if you’re coming home for New Year’s tomorrow.”
“Are you going back?”
Yi Qian set down her spoon and looked at her.
Without hesitation, Ye Shuyi shook her head. “We already agreed to spend New Year’s at Kechi’s place tomorrow night.”
Yi Qian’s face instantly fell, looking pitiful: “What about me? Aren’t you coming with me to the show tomorrow?”
Ye Shuyi reached out to pat her head, comforting her: “I’m sorry, I can’t accompany you today or tomorrow. I promised Grandma Sun I’d spend New Year’s with her this year. Don’t worry, I’ll be watching you on TV.”
“Fine then…” came the still utterly dejected reply.
“Oh dear, who made my little puppy so unhappy?” Ye Shuyi teased.
Yi Qian turned her face away, pretending to be angry: “Who else could upset me besides a certain someone surnamed Ye?”
Ye Shuyi smiled and cupped her face, planting a kiss on her slightly pouted lips: “Still upset?”
“Absolutely miserable,” Yi Qian mumbled before suddenly grabbing the back of Ye Shuyi’s head and kissing her fiercely, refusing to let go until the struggling in her arms intensified her usual sign that the other was running out of breath.
Releasing her, she kissed the tip of her nose, her voice hoarse: “After all these kisses, how come my baby still hasn’t improved at all?”
Just then, Ye Shuyi’s phone beside them buzzed insistently.
Yi Qian glanced over and saw the name she least wanted to see. She grabbed Ye Shuyi’s hand as she reached for the phone, whining: “Baby, put it on speaker, okay?”
She suddenly remembered her own words from yesterday.”What visible, tangible jealousy could there be?” and now, here it was, right before her eyes.
Song Kechi, that dark, sour, utterly detestable vinegar.
Ye Shuyi raised an eyebrow: “Jealous?”
“I might as well turn into a vat of vinegar,” Yi Qian admitted without hesitation.
Ye Shuyi shook her head with a helpless smile, answering the call and switching to speakerphone.
“Hey, Ye Baobao, on your way yet?” Song Kechi paused. “Or should I come pick you up?”
Before Ye Shuyi could respond, Yi Qian cut in: “Miss Song with the silver tongue, I’ve already recorded what you just said. This will be played on loop for my best friend’s listening pleasure.”
“If you’re worried this might damage your image in her eyes, no problem just stop calling my baby, aka Ye Shuyi, by those cutesy nicknames like ‘Ye Baobao,’ ‘Ye Darling,’ ‘Ye Sweetheart’ and I might consider sparing you this recording.”
Song Kechi: “……”
Ye Shuyi couldn’t help but smirk at the sarcastic display before her.
“Oh no, what a shame. I really hope you hurry up and do it. Should I say a few more? Ye Baobao, Ye Sweetheart, Darling Ye Shuyi, Little Ye Ye, Ye Heartthrob~” Song Kechi paused, then added eagerly, “How does that sound? Enjoying yourself?”
“Oh, and when are you planning to play it for Fang Xin? Could you record her reaction for me, pretty please?”
Now it was Yi Qian’s turn to freeze.
Ye Shuyi pinched her dazed cheeks lightly, chuckling.
“Alright,” Ye Shuyi broke the standoff. “I’m heading out soon. See you at the venue.”
“Sure thing, Ye Sweetheart~”
The drawn-out farewell seemed deliberately loud, as if ensuring a certain someone wouldn’t miss a single word.
Ye Shuyi hung up the phone and laughed, “What’s the point of threatening her like that? Fang Xin doesn’t even know Ke Chi likes her yet. If you do this, you’ll only end up playing wingman for them.”
“Besides,” she continued, “you don’t need to take those nicknames so seriously. It’s just her habit, she calls all her close friends like that.” She paused, then added, “But if it bothers you, I’ll tell her to stop calling me that.”
As she spoke, she reached out to pinch Yi Qian’s cheek playfully, grinning. “I’ll just say that if she keeps it up, a certain big puppy of mine might turn into a whole vinegar jar.”
Yi Qian grabbed her hand, her expression pitiful. “Not just a vinegar jar, a whole vat. Enough to drown her in jealousy.”
“Alright, alright,” Ye Shuyi soothed, kissing her forehead gently. “I should get going now. Don’t forget to put on a good show tonight.”
Yi Qian caught her wrist, blinking up at her like a clingy, oversized dog reluctant to let its owner leave. “Come back to my place tonight, okay?”
Ye Shuyi brushed her hand away, refusing without hesitation. “No. You need proper rest tonight so you can perform well for tomorrow’s New Year’s Eve livestream.”
Yi Qian pouted. “But I’d rest better with you.”
“Shh…” Ye Shuyi pressed a finger to her lips. “Be good.”
Yi Qian watched her leave with longing, her gaze lingering until the door closed behind her. Just as she lowered her eyes, the door creaked open again. She looked up to see Ye Shuyi peeking back in, sunlight spilling over her like a halo, making her glow. With a mischievous smile, she called out, “Silly, I said I wasn’t going to your place but I never said you couldn’t come to mine.”
Before Yi Qian could react, the door shut again, cutting off the stream of sunlight.
The realization hit her a second later. Yi Qian sprang up from her seat, bouncing excitedly like an overjoyed puppy. “Yes! Yes! My wife invited me over!”
