Why Did the Top Alpha Suddenly Stop Acting Out? - Chapter 53
Ye Shuyi thought that Yi Qian’s “I’ll think about it” would take at most one night that she would reach out by the next day at the latest.
But she didn’t.
The entire day passed without any contact from her.
By evening, Ye Shuyi stood by the floor-to-ceiling window in the living room, repeatedly checking her silent phone, her brows furrowed. She opened her contacts several times, scrolling through the pinned number before finally giving in and making the call herself.
The phone rang until it disconnected, no answer.
Song Kechi stepped out of the bathroom, drying her hair, and immediately noticed Ye Shuyi’s dejected expression. Frowning slightly, she sat on the sofa and asked, “She still hasn’t contacted you?”
Ye Shuyi didn’t turn around, only nodding slightly as she gazed out the window. There, she saw the same elderly couple she had noticed before still supporting each other as they slowly walked along the community path. The grandmother with the low ponytail kept glancing at the one with the bun, as if constantly checking on her.
Suddenly, a hand tapped her shoulder.
She turned to see Song Kechi leaning over, peering outside curiously. “What’s got you so absorbed? I called you a few times, but you didn’t respond.”
Ye Shuyi gestured toward the two elderly figures hobbling along together and said calmly, “Those two grandmothers as long as it doesn’t snow at night, they always take a walk together, supporting each other.”
Song Kechi paused in drying her hair, her voice softening. “Do you think Xinxin and I could be like that someday?” A dreamy expression crossed her face as if she were already picturing it. “Two white-haired old ladies, shuffling along after dinner, strolling through the park or the neighborhood. Ah, what a perfect life.”
Ye Shuyi’s eyes flickered slightly. Who wouldn’t want to grow old with the person they loved, walking side by side, even if their steps were unsteady?
Clutching her phone tightly, she turned away from the window and looked at Song Kechi, her lips curving slightly. “I don’t mean to burst your bubble, but before you start dreaming about that, shouldn’t you actually win her over first?”
“I get the feeling, Fang Xin might not be into your type?”
Song Kechi met her gaze, a confident smile playing on her lips. “To be honest, the ideal type I set for myself before was nothing like Xinxin.”
She walked further into the living room, adopting the air of a love expert. “Things like ‘ideal types’ before you meet that person, all your expectations are just illusions. Once you find someone you truly like, all those rigid standards you set for yourself just crumble away.”
Settling onto the sofa, she glanced back at Ye Shuyi, who still stood by the window, before resuming drying her hair with unwavering confidence. “I’ll make her fall for me. It’s only a matter of time.”
Ye Shuyi watched her reflection in the window for a moment before looking down at her silent phone again, her frown deepening.
She dialed the number once more, still no answer.
Lifting her gaze, she watched the two elderly figures grow smaller in the distance and sighed softly.
Yi Qian, what exactly are you thinking?
And how much longer do you need to think?
The next morning, Ye Shuyi was awakened by her phone ringing.
She lay on her side facing the floor-to-ceiling window. When she opened her eyes, the glaring sunlight shone directly onto her face. She raised a hand to shield herself, waiting for her vision to adjust before groping around the nightstand for her phone.
“Hello?”
Answering the call, Ye Shuyi drowsily lay back down. Last night, her mind had been filled with thoughts of “Yi Qian,” “Yi Qian,” “Yi Qian” wondering what Yi Qian was thinking, what Yi Qian was doing so late at night. In short, her head had been completely occupied by Yi Qian, leaving her tossing and turning until two or three in the morning before finally falling asleep.
“Ye, my agent.”
Just three simple words, but they instantly snapped Ye Shuyi wide awake. All traces of sleepiness vanished from her eyes as she sat up abruptly. “Yi Qian?”
“It’s me.” Yi Qian’s voice was neither warm nor cold, carrying a strictly professional tone. “I contacted the director this morning. After discussing, we agreed on a rehearsal at ten. My hand isn’t in great shape for driving, so I might need you to come pick me up.”
Ye Shuyi frowned, hesitating as if she wanted to ask something, but in the end, she held back and simply replied, “Alright. It’s seven now, I’ll be there around eight.”
“If you’re free right now, I’d prefer if you could come as soon as possible.” Yi Qian paused, her tone unchanged. “There might be something else I need your help with here.”
“Fine. I’ll get ready and head over right away.”
After hanging up, Ye Shuyi rubbed her temples, then threw off the covers and got out of bed.
As she stepped out of her room, Song Kechi was in the kitchen preparing breakfast. Seeing her, Song greeted, “Morning, my dear. Breakfast is almost ready.”
“I won’t be eating.” Ye Shuyi grabbed her keys from the storage box. “I need to pick up Yi Qian for rehearsal.”
“This early?” Song Kechi glanced at the wall clock. “It’s only 7:05.”
Ye Shuyi nodded. “Yi Qian scheduled it for ten with the director. She said there’s something else she needs help with, which might take some time. After driving there, it’ll be about right.”
Song Kechi covered the pot of simmering porridge and walked over to Ye Shuyi. “She reached out to you?”
Ye Shuyi gave a silent nod.
“What did she say?”
Ye Shuyi shook her head, her tone indifferent. “Just asked me to pick her up for rehearsal.”
“You didn’t ask her anything?” Song Kechi pressed curiously.
“No.” Ye Shuyi headed for the door, slipping on her shoes at the entrance before turning back. “I’ll talk to her in person later.”
Arriving at Yi Qian’s villa, Ye Shuyi parked in the driveway and walked up to the front door, pressing the doorbell.
When there was no response, she raised her hand to ring it again, only for her phone to chime from her bag.
Pulling it out, she saw a message from Yi Qian:
[You knew my door code just the other day, and now you’ve forgotten?]
[Enter the code yourself. I can’t easily come open it.]
Frowning at the message, Ye Shuyi tucked her phone away and keyed in the code.
The moment she stepped inside, a hand seized her wrist. In a swift motion, her back was pressed against the wall, a palm cushioning the back of her head as a shadow loomed over her.
Yi Qian leaned down and kissed her.
Unlike the soft, lingering kisses from that night, Yi Qian now invaded boldly, parting her lips to greedily claim every breath from her mouth.
Ye Shuyi struggled to push her away, worried. “Your hand, your hand!”
Yi Qian released her briefly, withdrawing the hand cushioning her head to flex it demonstratively before waving it playfully. “It’s fine, already healed.”
“So quickly?” Ye Shuyi was slightly stunned.
“Of course. Otherwise, why do you think I pushed you away the other night?”
For the sake of this damn hand healing faster, she had suppressed every impulse since that evening not only rejecting her wife who had willingly come to her but also enduring a day of unbearable loneliness.
But she hadn’t been idle yesterday either. To speed up the recovery, she had rushed between medical clinics all day. Fortunately, her efforts paid off. When she woke this morning, her hand felt completely fine, prompting her to call Ye Shuyi immediately.
“I’ve been dying for you, baby.”
As soon as the words left her lips, Yi Qian leaned in again, but Ye Shuyi swiftly pressed a finger to her mouth, reminding her, “We still have rehearsal later.”
Yi Qian puckered her lips to kiss the cool fingertip, then gently took it into her mouth, teasing it with her tongue as she mumbled, “We’re scheduled with the director at five. It’s still early.”
Though her words were deliberately slurred, Ye Shuyi heard them clearly. Narrowing her eyes, she accused, “You lied to me?”
Yi Qian nipped at her finger lightly before wrapping her arms around Ye Shuyi’s waist, burying her face in the crook of her neck. “I just wanted to see you sooner,” she murmured, planting another kiss there.
Without waiting, Yi Qian sealed their lips together again, ravenous as a starved beast.
Her hands weren’t idle either, roaming freely over the body pressed against her.
“Mmm…”
A stifled moan escaped Ye Shuyi as she clung tightly to Yi Qian’s waist.
The air around them grew thick with heat, as if winter had abruptly turned to summer. Ye Shuyi gasped out, “I’m hot!”
Undeterred, Yi Qian slid her hands from Ye Shuyi’s back to her front, fingers deftly working open the buttons of her blouse one by one.
Grrr!
Suddenly, a loud growl from one of their stomachs shattered the heated moment.
Yi Qian paused, glancing down with an amused smirk. “That eager, baby?”
Flushing crimson, Ye Shuyi lightly punched her shoulder, breath uneven. “I thought you were in a hurry, I skipped breakfast to come here.”
Yi Qian leaned close to her ear, teasing, “Oh, I am in a hurry.”
Ye Shuyi understood the implication but didn’t resist. Instead, she looped her arms around Yi Qian’s neck, whispering against her ear, “But I’m hungry. I have no strength.”
Her tone curled at the end, almost like a coquettish plea.
The warm breath tickling her ear sent shivers down Yi Qian’s spine. Her eyes darkened as she hooked her hands under Ye Shuyi’s thighs, lifting her effortlessly. “Then let’s have something special no strength required,” she murmured, carrying her toward the bedroom.
Gently placing the person on the bed, Yi Qian stood up and began unbuttoning her own clothes. Just as her fingertips had undone two buttons, her hand was suddenly pinned down by a delicate, fair foot. The heel pressed against her palm as if stepping on soft dough. She took a deep breath, closing her eyes to savor the sensation, her expression one of pure delight. Covering the foot with her hand, she guided its movements.
She slowly opened her eyes, letting her gaze travel down the slender leg to find Ye Shuyi looking dazed, uttering words that completely contradicted her actions: “A-Qian~ Do we really have to do this now?”
Every syllable seemed to tease Yi Qian’s nerves. She leaned in closer to the woman on the bed, sighing softly by her ear before murmuring, “Darling, if you don’t give yourself to me now, you’ll be the death of your wife~”
Her trembling voice trailed off, as if her patience had reached its limit.
Outside, the sun shone brightly, while inside, the first snow seemed to fall as tea plum blossoms bloomed.
Time passed unnoticed, and the sunlight that had once streamed into the room had long since faded. Ye Shuyi lay exhausted on the bed, her lips slightly parted, eyelids heavy with fatigue.
Yi Qian embraced her from behind, resting her chin on her shoulder while her hands wandered restlessly beneath the covers. Ye Shuyi curled her lips slightly, whispering silkily, “No more, I’m tired.”
Under the blanket, Yi Qian took her hand and placed it on her own stomach, rubbing it gently as she whined, “Feel this, I’m still hungry.”
Ye Shuyi chuckled helplessly, turning to face her. Cupping Yi Qian’s cheeks, she kissed her forehead. “Be good. You still have rehearsals this afternoon.”
Yi Qian reached past her to check the phone on the nightstand before brushing her lips lightly against Ye Shuyi’s cheek. “It’s still early, only three o’clock.”
With that, she buried herself against Ye Shuyi again. The latter lifted Yi Qian’s face with both hands, reminding her, “It takes an hour to get there. It’s not early anymore. Be good, we have every day ahead of us.”
Yi Qian’s cheeks were slightly squished, making her look utterly adorable as she blinked innocently. “Then will you give yourself to me every day?”
Ye Shuyi paused in her playful pinching, smiling wryly. “Are you an animal?”
“I can be,” Yi Qian nodded eagerly.
Ye Shuyi’s smile stiffened as she pinched her cheeks. “But I’d rather you weren’t.”
Yi Qian lowered her eyes, pouting pitifully. “Fine! I’ll listen to you.”
“Good girl.” Ye Shuyi pecked her lips. “Now, two choices: if you’re tired, rest. If you’re still full of energy, go make me something to eat.”
Without hesitation, Yi Qian asked, “What would you like?”
“Whatever you make, I’ll eat.”
Slowly, Yi Qian raised a hand and pointed at herself.
Ye Shuyi laughed, pushing her hand back down. “Enough. Go on.”
“One last kiss then.”
Yi Qian closed her eyes, puckering her lips obediently.
Ye Shuyi smiled and kissed her left cheek.
Dissatisfied, Yi Qian shook her head.
Ye Shuyi then kissed her right cheek.
Yi Qian opened her eyes, her light-colored irises shimmering with amusement. “Are you doing this on purpose?”
“Oh! I get it,” she answered her own question. “You just don’t want me to leave wanting more kisses.”
The last word was swallowed by a kiss.
Ye Shuyi pressed her lips against hers, her tongue lingering briefly before retreating, a clear smile on her face. “Satisfied now?”
Yi Qian quickly pecked her lips in response, then hopped off the bed and pulled a clean, thin bedsheet from the wardrobe. Without a word, she tugged the blanket off Ye Shuyi and wrapped her in the fresh sheet before scooping her up.
Instinctively, Ye Shuyi looped her arms around Yi Qian’s neck to keep from falling, her voice tinged with alarm. “What are you doing?”
Yi Qian didn’t explain. She carried her to the adjacent guest room, gently settling her onto the bed and tucking her in. Leaning down, she kissed Ye Shuyi’s forehead and stroked her hair, her voice tender. “If you’re tired, rest here for now. It’s clean. I’ll come get you when the food’s ready.”
Ye Shuyi nodded, then quickly hooked her arms around Yi Qian’s neck again, pulling her down for another light kiss. She leaned close to her ear, her tone playful. “Thanks for the hard work, wifey~”
Before Yi Qian could react, she dropped her arms and yanked the blanket over her head.
The teasing lilt of her voice lingered in Yi Qian’s ears, leaving her momentarily stunned. She quickly recovered and tugged the blanket down only for the shy woman to immediately pull it back up.
Down, then up again.
After a few rounds of this, Yi Qian relented. She ruffled Ye Shuyi’s hair through the blanket and whispered near her ear, “Sweetheart, don’t be shy. Wifey loves hearing it, say it a few more times?”
Ye Shuyi’s muffled voice came from beneath the covers. “No more.”
“Alright,” Yi Qian conceded fondly. “I won’t push you. Rest well. I’ll go make you something to eat.”
The blanket shifted slightly likely a nod from its occupant.
Yi Qian pressed one last kiss to her forehead before leaving the room.
Before long, Yi Qian set a bowl of freshly cooked noodles on the dining table and headed back to the guest room.
She pushed the door open quietly to find the woman in bed sleeping peacefully, a faint smile on her lips as if lost in a sweet dream. Sitting beside her, Yi Qian brushed away the strands of hair framing her face, her fingertips lingering tenderly on her cheek.
This wasn’t a dream, was it?
Had they really gone back to how things were three years ago?
Just then, the woman in bed slowly opened her eyes, blinking drowsily before recognition dawned. Her lips curled into a smile as she reached up to clasp the hand on her cheek, her voice still rough with sleep. “What’s wrong?”
Yi Qian squeezed her fingers in return, then bent to bury her face against Ye Shuyi’s shoulder, her voice distant. “It’s just, it feels a little unreal.”
With a soft smirk, Ye Shuyi brought Yi Qian’s finger to her lips and gave it a gentle nip, amusement clear in her voice. “Real enough now?”
Yi Qian nodded slightly, pressing a kiss to her collarbone before straightening. “Get up. The noodles will get soggy soon.”
Ye Shuyi started to sit up, but as the blanket slipped down, she suddenly froze. Hastily pulling it back up, she shot Yi Qian a helpless look. “My clothes!”
Her trailing tone was almost like a whimper.
Yi Qian curled her lips slightly, her gaze sweeping over the hands clutching the blanket tightly as she teased, “After everything we’ve done, my dear is still shy?”
Ye Shuyi glared at her playfully, wrapping herself in the blanket as she moved to get off the bed. “I’ll go get dressed myself.”
Yi Qian pressed her back down and stood up. “Alright, I’ll stop teasing you. I’ll go get your clothes now.”
With that, she left briefly and soon returned with an outfit not the one Ye Shuyi had worn that morning, but a brand-new set. The white shirt had a red heart printed on the right side of the collar, with a row of heartbeat symbols between the second and third buttons. Paired with white pants, the right pocket also bore the same heartbeat pattern. Completing the look was a white wool coat, simple yet stylishly designed.
Ye Shuyi blinked in confusion.
Yi Qian chuckled. “What? Did you think you only had pajamas in this house?”
Ye Shuyi remained silent, simply watching her.
Yi Qian walked over and ruffled her hair gently. “Everything you could ever need at home, you’ll find it here.”
Ye Shuyi lowered her gaze, lost in thought for a moment before suddenly wrapping her arms around Yi Qian’s waist, nuzzling her cheek against her stomach. “Thank you.” She paused, then repeated softly, “Thank you, A-Qian. Really, thank you.”
Yi Qian stroked her hair, her voice tender. “Like I said before, I’m the one who should be thanking you for not letting everything I bought just gather dust.” She glanced down at the woman in her arms, her gaze warm. “Now, hurry and get dressed so we can eat. Unless, you want me to help you?”
At that, Ye Shuyi quickly let go, snatched the clothes from her hands, and pushed her toward the door. “Go wait outside. I’ll be out soon.”
Yi Qian turned back with a smirk. “Still so shy, baby? Guess we haven’t practiced enough.”
Ye Shuyi laughed and playfully kicked her backside. “Out!”
Closing the door behind her, Yi Qian didn’t leave. Instead, she leaned lazily against the wall, waiting.
At the faint sound of movement inside, she stepped forward before the door fully opened, admiring the sight of Ye Shuyi. “Tsk tsk, as expected of my baby. You look stunning.”
Ye Shuyi wrapped her arms around Yi Qian’s waist and whispered in her ear, “Well, I have a wife with impeccable taste.”
Yi Qian hugged her back, gently nibbling her earlobe. “Then, does this wife with impeccable taste get a reward?”
The moment Yi Qian’s lips touched her sensitive ear, Ye Shuyi melted against her. She lifted her head, meeting the mischief in Yi Qian’s eyes, and lightly pinched her waist. “Let me go.”
Yi Qian released her with a chuckle, pressing a kiss to the tip of her nose. “Fine, I’ll stop teasing. Let’s go eat.”
At the dining table, time passed quietly, one eating noodles in silence, the other simply watching her beloved.
After a while, Yi Qian rested her chin on the table, her gentle eyes filled with nothing but the woman before her.
“Shuyi.”
“Hmm?” Ye Shuyi looked up.
Yi Qian stared at her for a long moment before speaking slowly, “Does this mean, we’ve made up now?”
