Why Did the Top Alpha Suddenly Stop Acting Out? - Chapter 37.2
She had intended to leave first, but suddenly worried the other might go back on her word, so she added this.
Song Kechi saw right through her. “If you don’t trust me, let’s just take your car.”
With that, she strode ahead toward where Fang Xin had parked.
Fang Xin followed in a daze. Why was this person suddenly so agreeable and so proactive?
Song Kechi stopped by the passenger door of the pink sports car and waved at the stunned girl to unlock it.
Fang Xin snapped out of it, took out her keys to unlock the car, and watched as Song Kechi casually slid into the seat as if it were her own car.
Is she up to something?
Fang Xin couldn’t help but wonder.
Seeing that the car’s owner hadn’t shown up, Song Kechi leaned over to roll down the window: “What are you standing there for?”
“Oh, right.” Fang Xin snapped out of it and quickly opened the door to get in. “Actually, you could’ve just driven your own car. I definitely wouldn’t have lost you.”
Having the other person sit beside her like this felt like installing a ticking time bomb next to her.
“What?” Song Kechi glanced around the car’s interior and teased, “Does this passenger seat have some rule that only your future boyfriend or girlfriend can sit here?”
Fang Xin: “……”
Ignoring her, Song Kechi started the car instead.
The roar of the supercar’s engine pierced the sky, yet the vehicle remained stationary.
Song Kechi turned her head in confusion toward the driver, about to speak when she was cut off.
“Seatbelt.” Fang Xin tilted her head to look at her with a smirk. “First thing when getting in a car, do I really need to teach you that?”
Song Kechi raised an eyebrow slightly and said nonchalantly, “If Teacher Fang is willing, I wouldn’t say no.”
Fang Xin paused briefly before quickly playing along with the role assigned to her, adopting a kindergarten teacher’s tone: “In that case, Teacher Fang will have to ask little Song to get out. Teacher Fang doesn’t take unqualified passengers.”
“Understood, teacher.” Song Kechi continued the act but obediently fastened her seatbelt.
The car soon sped off.
Song Kechi took out her phone and texted Ye Shuyi: [I’ve been kidnapped by Yi Qian’s best friend, so I won’t be picking you up. Don’t feel lonely without me, my heart is with you~ Mwah.]
At the filming location, Ye Shuyi had just stepped out of the restroom when she saw Song Kechi’s message.
The corner of her lips curled as she quickly replied: [Kidnapped, or did you happily trot along after her?]
The reply came swiftly: [As if there’s anything about her worth trotting after!]
Ye Shuyi typed out two words: [Her looks]
Just as she hit send, someone called out to her.
“Agent Ye!”
She looked up to see a staff member staring at her in panic.
“What’s wrong?”
Ye Shuyi instinctively glanced toward the set first. Not seeing Yi Qian, her frown deepened.
The staff member noticed her concern and explained, “It’s not Teacher Yi, it’s Teacher Song.”
“Her? What about her?” The worry on Ye Shuyi’s face vanished instantly as her brows relaxed. Anyone else might be in trouble, but certainly not this young miss.
Thinking about it, she really couldn’t imagine anything that could actually harm Song Kechi.
The staff member’s expression remained urgent as she elaborated: “I went outside earlier to get some equipment and saw Teacher Song arguing with some beauty. That woman seemed to be emotionally blackmailing her, saying she’d never let Teacher Song see you no matter what, even threatening not to buy her ice cream if she came to meet you and then, then Teacher Song had no choice but to go with her.”
She’d wanted to add that she didn’t understand why the ice cream was such a big deal, how Agent Ye could lose out to some dessert but seeing Ye Shuyi’s increasingly frosty expression, she wisely kept that part to herself.
Had no choice?
As if. Song Kechi was probably having the time of her life right now.
Ye Shuyi thought with a cold laugh.
Just then, a message from Song Kechi popped up on her phone: [“You kidding? Do I look like someone who’d abandon friends for a pretty face? You have no idea how formidable she is, I can’t even win against her.”]
As if someone else had kidnapped her how could she say that when there were witnesses now.
Ye Shuyi scoffed and quickly typed back, her words dripping with sarcasm: [“Let me guess, Miss Fang Xin’s greatest skill must be stealing your old heart, huh?”]
Another message appeared almost instantly: [“Hehe, see you at the race later~”]
No denial meant tacit admission.
Ye Shuyi shook her head with a smile. It seemed someone had finally appeared who could hurt Song Kechi.
“Agent Ye?”
The staff member’s voice trembled slightly as she watched the shifting expressions on the woman’s face.
Hearing this, Ye Shuyi snapped back to reality and realized someone was standing before her. She looked up and smiled. “It’s fine, they know each other. Thanks for telling me.”
The staff member scratched her head awkwardly. “Glad to hear that. I’ll get back to work then.”
Without waiting for a response, she hurried away.
Checking the time, Ye Shuyi knew she should leave now or she’d be late.
Her eyes swept across the set but still found no sign of Yi Qian.
Turning around, she packed up her things, tablet and coat in hand but Yi Qian was nowhere to be seen. Where could she have gone for so long?
Whatever. She’d just send a message.
Pulling out her phone, Ye Shuyi typed: [“I have things to do, so I’m leaving first. Probably won’t come back today. Be safe heading home.”]
Just as she hit send, a notification ding sounded right in front of her.
Ding-dong~
She looked up to find Yi Qian standing before her, having appeared out of nowhere.
Yi Qian read the message right in front of her, then raised an eyebrow and asked knowingly, “Where are you off to?”
Ye Shuyi kept it brief. “A race.”
After the last competition made headlines, the other woman knew she participated in motorcycle races, so there was no point hiding it not that she ever intended to from Yi Qian.
Yi Qian nodded, picking up her coat as she looked at her. “Let’s go.”
“Go? Have you finished filming for today?” Ye Shuyi eyed her suspiciously.
“Done. I filmed tonight’s scenes last night,” Yi Qian replied nonchalantly.
Seeing her obvious intention to tag along, Ye Shuyi frowned. “Even as a racer, I can’t bring anyone in today.”
Normally it wouldn’t be an issue spectators needed free tickets, but racers could bring one guest. However, today’s private invitational had strict rules: racers needed invitations to enter, and no plus-ones were allowed.
Yi Qian’s brow twitched, a teasing smile playing at her lips as she leaned in close to whisper, “Not even, if I pretend to be family?”
Ye Shuyi arched an eyebrow, dead serious. “Not even if you were my clone.”
Yi Qian shrugged indifferently but insisted, “Either way, I’m going.”
Ye Shuyi’s frown deepened. “Did you not understand what I said?”
Yi Qian simply smiled at her without a word.
The atmosphere grew tense.
Many crew members passing by noticed the two standing motionless and kept glancing curiously in their direction.
Assistant Director Che had been closely observing their interaction the whole time.
“Did you actually buy tickets?” Ye Shuyi suddenly realized this possibility.
Yi Qian shook her head in denial.
“If we sneak in, we’ll get beaten out with sticks.”
“Are you worried about me?”
“I’m worried about the dog.”
“Then I’ll be the dog.”
“……”
Noticing the increasingly tense atmosphere, Assistant Director Che, the biggest shipper of the on-screen couple, quickly stepped in to “mediate”: “Teacher Yi, Manager Ye, let’s talk things out properly, no need to argue.”
Both women simultaneously lowered their gazes to the assistant director standing between them.
Che unconsciously held her breath, choosing to look at the less aggressive Ye Shuyi.
Ye Shuyi nodded at her and broke the silence: “Thanks for your concern, but we’re not arguing. We have matters to attend to, so we’ll be leaving now.”
Yi Qian patted the assistant director’s shoulder with a smile. “I’m clocking out first. Keep up the good work, Director.”
With that, she jogged a few steps to catch up with Ye Shuyi.
Assistant Director Che exhaled like a deflated balloon, watching their retreating figures with an inexplicable sense of having narrowly escaped disaster.
All she could say was arguing lovers were truly terrifying.
Following Ye Shuyi outside, Yi Qian nimbly rushed to the passenger door first, waiting for Ye Shuyi to unlock it.
Ye Shuyi stood by the driver’s door, locking eyes with Yi Qian across the vehicle.
A ray of sunlight had been piercing through the clouds, but as a gust of wind blew, the clouds completely obscured the sun, instantly bringing a chill to the air.
Much like the two people quietly facing off on either side of the car, the atmosphere grew inexplicably frosty.
“Can you stop fooling around?” Ye Shuyi softened her tone. “There’ll be other chances to go in later.”
“I promise,” Yi Qian raised two fingers toward the sky. “I won’t cause any trouble, and I’ll go in perfectly fine and come out perfectly fine too.”
Ye Shuyi continued staring at her expressionlessly, her voice stern: “Even if you could get in, have you forgotten your status?”
As Yi Qian’s manager, Ye Shuyi genuinely didn’t want her appearing in crowded places especially not locations like this one. Unlike variety show sets where the crew would arrange safety measures beforehand, this place offered no protection for celebrities.
Even if Yi Qian’s fans were well-behaved, that only applied if every fan present was a devoted one. As a public figure and one with a somewhat controversial reputation at that, how could Yi Qian possibly only have loyal fans?
“I haven’t,” Yi Qian said breezily. “Really, don’t worry about me. You’ll see when we get there.”
“Let’s go, or you’ll be late.”
Frowning, Ye Shuyi muttered “I said I was worried about the dog” before getting into the car.
Yi Qian slid into the passenger seat almost simultaneously. Noticing the driver’s stony expression, she quickly brainstormed ways to cheer her up.
An idea flashed through her mind, and she let out a “Woof” at Ye Shuyi.
Ye Shuyi: “……”
“Woof woof……”
“Giving up on being human?” Ye Shuyi remained deadpan.
“No,” Yi Qian drawled lazily. “Just wanted someone to care about me, woof woof.”
The corner of Ye Shuyi’s mouth twitched upward before she schooled her expression into a warning: “Enough fooling around. Buckle up.”
“You smiled just now, no more being upset,” Yi Qian said while obediently fastening her seatbelt.
The car shot forward as if it had wings, speeding down the avenue at high velocity. In no time, it came to a perfect drifting stop right at the competition venue’s entrance.
Ye Shuyi stepped out of the car, tossed the keys to an approaching security guard, and strode straight toward the entrance.
Yi Qian followed closely behind.
The security personnel at the entrance nodded in acknowledgment when they saw Ye Shuyi approach, but raised a hand to stop Yi Qian from following her inside.
