Why Did the Top Alpha Suddenly Stop Acting Out? - Chapter 28
Yi Qian had assumed that even if the other person wouldn’t comfort her with a kiss, they would at least let her hold them for a while.
But to her surprise, the other’s actions completely defied her expectations.
Ye Shuyi pulled open the dressing room door, led her out, and into the adjacent shower room.
Yi Qian watched as the other picked up the showerhead, puzzled. “I thought we weren’t showering. Ah!”
Before she could finish speaking, an icy stream of cold water sprayed onto her freezing winter water, drenching her without warning!
She looked up at the culprit in disbelief, only to find the perpetrator utterly unapologetic, eyes curved in amusement as she teased, “I don’t need it, but I think you do.”
“So? Not hot anymore, right? Mind clear now?”
“You… give me that showerhead.” Yi Qian reached out to snatch it.
Ye Shuyi deftly dodged, swiftly turning off the water with her other hand, feigning seriousness. “Stop messing around.”
At those words, Yi Qian immediately froze, standing obediently in place. Her soaked white shirt clung to her body, revealing the alluring curves of her figure and, beneath the translucent fabric, the faint outline of blue floral patterns.
“Enjoying the view? So, this was your plan all along dragging me here to get me wet?” Yi Qian slowly closed the distance between them, her voice laced with a slow, suggestive tone. “How about joining me?”
“I could let you look until you’ve had your fill.”
The last words whispered by her ear.
Ye Shuyi swallowed hard, pushed her away, then turned the water back on. After adjusting the temperature, she sprayed the now-warm water onto Yi Qian, her voice calm. “Hurry up and wash. We’ve already wasted too much time.”
With that, she quickly fled the shower room, like a startled rabbit.
Ye Shuyi stepped outside the dressing area, explained the situation to the production crew, and waited with them for Yi Qian to emerge.
Once Yi Qian came out, the group headed to the roller coaster entrance, where screams of all kinds mingled in the air.
“Ahhhh!”
“Ahhh! Mom, save me, wuuu!”
“Woo-hoo~ Flying~!”
Yi Qian bought tickets at the entrance, then turned to Ye Shuyi, who stood nearby with her arms crossed, brows tightly knit. Waving the tickets in front of her, Yi Qian leaned in and whispered by her ear, “Just say the word if you’re scared. We can leave right now.”
Straightening up, she smiled at her.
Ye Shuyi glanced at the shrieking riders on the tracks, calmly took one of the tickets from Yi Qian’s hand, and shrugged. “Nothing to be afraid of.”
Without hesitation, she walked to the ticket checkpoint, handed her ticket to the attendant, and strode confidently into the roller coaster area.
Yi Qian watched her retreating figure, a faint smirk tugging at her lips, before following after.
On the boarding platform, many visitors recognized Yi Qian and immediately pulled out their phones to snap pictures. Yi Qian obligingly struck a pose. “Photos are fine, but don’t disrupt the order, okay?”
Her fans nodded frantically in agreement, their hands never stopping.
Watching the roller coaster slowly pull into the station, Ye Shuyi’s legs inexplicably felt weak, and she discreetly steadied herself against the railing beside her.
When the roller coaster came to a stop in front of them, Yi Qian walked past her and said lightly, “Come on, let’s take the front row.”
Ye Shuyi quickly grabbed her wrist, her face still composed. “The front row? But I’d prefer the back row.”
Yi Qian patted her hand and said, “The front row has the best view, and it’s more thrilling.” Then, leaning close to her ear, she added, “You can still back out now if you want.”
Hearing this, Ye Shuyi took a deep breath, turned around, and walked straight to the front row.
Yi Qian stood there, shaking her head helplessly, murmuring, “That stubborn streak of yours hasn’t changed a bit.”
Once seated on the roller coaster and buckled in, Yi Qian glanced at the person beside her. Ye Shuyi was gripping the safety bar tightly, her brows slightly furrowed and lips pressed together.
Clearly, she was very nervous or rather, scared.
Yi Qian extended a hand toward her and said, “If you don’t mind, I can lend you a hand.”
Ye Shuyi looked at the hand that had once held hers countless times, the one that had always made her feel safe. Slowly, she reached out and took it.
Yi Qian’s palm curled slightly, her fingers slipping between Ye Shuyi’s, interlacing tightly.
Glancing at their firmly clasped hands, Yi Qian suppressed the urge to smile, her tone sincere. “Now we’re in this together. So, for the rest of the ride, as long as I’m safe, you’ll be absolutely safe too.”
The roller coaster climbed slowly along the track to its highest point, level with the orange-red sunset stretching across the horizon.
Yi Qian raised their joined hands, the light of the setting sun illuminating them perfectly.
She looked at Ye Shuyi, whose eyes were tightly shut, and with a voice full of resolve, declared, “Ye Shuyi, I won’t let go. Not ever!”
The roller coaster plunged down the track, accompanied by screams, cheers, and silent cries of exhilaration.
When it returned to the starting point, Yi Qian glanced at Ye Shuyi, whose eyes were still closed, and tried to release her hand to stand up first. But before she could fully let go, her fingers were seized again, held tightly.
The corner of Yi Qian’s mouth lifted as she leaned in close to Ye Shuyi’s ear, her voice gentle. “Don’t be afraid. We’re back now.”
At these words, Ye Shuyi stiffened slightly, then opened her eyes and looked around. Immediately, she let go of Yi Qian’s hand, steadied herself against the seatback, and stood up, slowly making her way to the platform. She gripped the railing, using it to stabilize herself.
Yi Qian walked over and took hold of her wrist. “How are you feeling? Still okay?”
Ye Shuyi pulled her hand free and replied evenly, “A little dizzy. I just need a moment.”
“How long is a moment?” Yi Qian glanced at the camera and, without missing a beat, lied smoothly, “The director’s urging us to head back soon.”
Ye Shuyi lifted her gaze coolly toward the camera.
Director Lu, who had been innocently caught in the crossfire from the monitor room: “……?”
Seeing the platform growing increasingly crowded, Ye Shuyi bent slightly, rubbing her still-weak legs, then nodded. “Let’s go.”
But she had clearly overestimated her recovery. After just a few steps, she lost her balance completely. Just as she was about to meet the ground in an ungraceful embrace, the expected pain never came. Instead, she fell into a soft, familiar hold.
She opened her eyes, her pupils slowly dilating wasn’t this person just taking photos with fans a moment ago?
Yi Qian’s lips curled into a faint smile as she teased softly, “Is this your way of trying to get my attention?”
Ye Shuyi: “…Let go.”
Her voice was devoid of any emotion.
Yi Qian obediently released her, then turned and crouched in front of her. “Hop on.”
Ye Shuyi hesitated slightly, glancing at the excited fans covering their mouths beside her before calmly refusing, “No need. I can walk on my own.” With that, she steadied herself by holding onto the cameraman’s arm and whispered, “Help me for a bit.”
The cameraman didn’t think much of it and was about to act as a human shield to guide her out when Yi Qian swiftly stood up and grabbed Ye Shuyi’s wrist, casting a cold glance at him.
Cameraman: “…” Had he somehow offended this diva?
Yi Qian leaned close to Ye Shuyi’s ear. “I wouldn’t mind carrying you out.”
Her gaze flicked pointedly toward the cameraman.
Realizing the implication, the cameraman quickly withdrew his hand.
Before Ye Shuyi could react, Yi Qian pulled her wrist, guiding one arm around her own shoulders. With a fluid motion, she lifted and secured Ye Shuyi onto her back.
Ye Shuyi, now fully aware of the situation, warned in a low voice, “Put me down. I can walk.”
Yi Qian tilted her head slightly. “This is more dignified than you falling flat on your face. Besides, we’re not the only ones doing this.” She nodded toward the side, where several couples were similarly positioned or at the very least, many adults carrying children.
As if struck by a sudden thought, Yi Qian added, “Or… would you prefer I carry you out in a princess hold?”
Ye Shuyi tightened her arms slightly around Yi Qian’s neck, her tone cool but threatening. “Watch your words. Your neck is in my hands.”
Yi Qian smirked, entirely unfazed, and countered breezily, “And you should watch your actions. Your entire body is in mine.”
In response, Ye Shuyi feigned fear, pulling her closer and resting her chin on Yi Qian’s shoulder. Her voice, carried by the evening breeze, brushed against Yi Qian’s ear. “Then let’s go down together.”
Yi Qian said nothing more, a faint smile lingering on her lips as she carried Ye Shuyi slowly out of the amusement park.
The evening wind gently tousled their hair, the air sweet with the scent of cotton candy. The setting sun stretched their shadows long behind them, just like during their first date.
Back at the villa, the moment they opened the door, Cai Yunyoo’s shrieks erupted from the living room.
“Ah! Ahhh!!… What the hell is this hairy thing?!”
Instinctively, Yi Qian reached for the hand of the person beside her, only for the other to deftly evade and step into the living room first.
Pausing briefly, Yi Qian followed and saw Huang Xin and Cai Yunyoo standing before a black box. Huang Xin was calmly rummaging inside, while Cai Yunyoo stood rigidly to the side, fists clenched and face pale.
Spotting their arrival, Director Lu immediately grabbed his megaphone to explain. “Our guests are currently playing a blind box game. The rules are simple: partners take turns reaching into the box to identify an item by touch, then simultaneously guess what it is.”
Yi Qian crossed her arms, arching a brow. “Fine, but what’s the stake?”
She pulled out the money they’d earned today from Ye Shuyi’s pocket red, green, orange, and blue bills fanning them out like a handheld fan with an air of nonchalance as she cooled herself.
Director Lu: “……”
He could read between the lines of Yi Qian’s words. She was reminding him that if the game only offered meager living expenses as a reward, she had no interest in participating.
Originally, Director Lu had planned for the game’s stakes to be varying amounts of living expenses, divided into first, second, and third place based on the guests’ correct answers and response times, 100 yuan for first place, 80 for second, and 50 for third.
But as he took in the colorful stack of cash in Yi Qian’s hand, his words took a detour. Raising his megaphone to his lips, he announced, “The stakes are this: first place can make any request of the production team, anything at all. Second place gets 100 yuan, and third place gets 80.”
Yi Qian tucked the money back into Ye Shuyi’s pocket, a faint smirk playing on her lips. “Now that’s interesting. What do you think, Manager Ye?”
Ye Shuyi glanced at her in confusion. The other woman clearly knew she dreaded these kinds of games, she was obviously asking on purpose.
But when their eyes met, she found no trace of mockery in Yi Qian’s gaze only eager anticipation.
Lowering her lashes, Ye Shuyi thought, If it wasn’t intentional… then she must have forgotten.
Even though she knew they had been broken up for three years, that she had no right to expect Yi Qian to remember her habits, the reality still left an inexplicable pang of disappointment in her chest.
