When We Meet Again, She's Pregnant - Chapter 5
At night, back in her hotel room, Yang Xiyan placed her phone and clothes on the bathroom sink. Humming a tune, she slipped out of her black evening gown, revealing her snow-white, slender, and flawless figure.
She gazed at her reflection in the mirror, lowering her eyes slightly as she murmured, “Finally finished what Mom asked me to do. Though the ball almost turned into a disaster. Thank goodness for that strange woman who saved me. Who knows how things would’ve ended otherwise?”
But who was she?
She had such an overwhelming presence that she silenced everyone with just a look. And then she pulled me onto the dance floor, just the two of us. Thinking about it now still makes me blush.
“Annoying as she was, I can’t deny there was a little flutter in my heart. No, no, no! This young lady absolutely did not feel anything!” Yang Xiyan’s face flushed crimson, and after wrestling with her thoughts for a moment, she let out a long sigh.
Glancing around the bathroom, she suddenly opened the door, hugging her ample bosom with one arm as she padded back to the bedroom in her slippers to grab her phone. Then, with quick little steps, she hurried back, turning on some soothing music.
After checking the water temperature, she sank into the bathtub with satisfaction, staring at the pristine ceiling. Yet, she couldn’t help but replay the events of the evening in her mind.
That mysterious woman really did seem to have just come to her aid, without any ulterior motives. Though they danced a few times, afterward, they only chatted, and no one else dared to ask her to dance again even after Liu Ying left.
Of course, plenty of people still approached her for conversation, but none with the same bold pursuit as before.
“What an incredible girl. If I get the chance, I’ll have to thank her properly.” Yang Xiyan submerged her head in the water, blowing bubbles with a gurgle gurgle.
Her name was Yang Xiyan, the young lady of an ancient noble family. Currently, she was a graduate of the Silver Moon Noble Women’s Magic Academy. Her purpose in coming to the Monster Island was for training and graduation.
Of course, students like her from noble magic academies weren’t particularly strong in combat some even lacked the spirit befitting a mage. Much like their ancient families, they were destined to be left behind by the tides of history.
The modern era was one of peace, but also fierce competition. In ancient times, she might have been considered a qualified mage skilled in water magic, wielding a staff, and adventuring across the world alongside swordsmen, thieves, and archers as part of a mercenary guild, living out the kind of epic tales only seen in period dramas.
But in modern times? Such mages were obsolete. The disappearance of battle aura had rendered swordsmen extinct, leaving only all-rounder mages as the sole surviving profession.
After her bath, Yang Xiyan wrapped herself in a towel and stepped out, sitting elegantly on the edge of the bed with her legs pressed together as she leisurely scrolled through videos on her phone. In a few days, she’d be entering the training zone of Monster Island, where there’d be no signal.
Her browsing focused on just three categories: art, travel, and magic. Her favorite content creator was Liu Ying, though the account was managed by her older sister.
Yang Xiyan tapped into Liu Ying’s profile, no updates in a while. The videos featuring Liu Ying had the most staggering view counts, though it was a shame she always wore a tiger-patterned mask while demonstrating flight magic techniques.
Her explanation was simple and easy to understand, and her voice was incredibly pleasant though it seemed she was deliberately speaking in a mature, older-sister tone. That voice alone was enough to intoxicate anyone, and the barrage of comments was filled with phrases like, “Marry me, sis!”
In truth, she had only just learned how to use a phone and didn’t understand these things. Seeing those comments, she couldn’t help puffing up her cheeks and typing: Sister Ying would never marry any of you. You’re clearly guys, yet you’re asking her to marry you?
As she scrolled, she suddenly came across a movie. The cover showed two anime girls kissing. Honestly, it was the first time she’d stumbled upon something like this, and curiosity got the better of her, so she clicked in.
The story was light and sweet, so she lay on her bed, swinging her snow-white legs while nibbling on dessert as she watched. By the time she finished, it was already late, so she quickly turned off the lights and went to sleep.
Before drifting off, she couldn’t help but recall the scene of the two girls kissing, her cheeks flushing red. It was the first time she’d realized that animated characters could kiss. Her worldview had been refreshed. At the same time, she envied their relationship.
That kind of sweetness was utterly heart-fluttering.
Her mother was very strict. She rarely got to watch TV, and computers were completely off-limits. Later, even when she went to school, she didn’t have a phone. She’d only gotten one recently, and it seemed to have some kind of “youth mode” enabled, so she knew nothing about these things.
Her studies had been focused on history, magic, poetry, dance, painting, chess, and music. As a result, after starting school, she found herself clueless about many things, unable to follow the girls’ conversations. She never managed to fit in, which eventually led to her becoming the cold, untouchable “goddess” of the school.
Though, in truth, she wasn’t cold at all.
The ticking of the hotel’s clock filled the room as Yang Xiyan gradually fell asleep. Today had felt like stepping through a door to a whole new world. She wondered if there were more sweet, heartwarming animations like that out there.
……
The next morning, Yang Xiyan hazily heard the voice of her maid, Yi Yi, knocking at her door. The dark world slowly brightened around her.
“Miss, time to wake up. May I come in? It’s time for breakfast, everyone’s waiting for you.”
“Mmm… just a sec.”
Though she was still drowsy, the discipline instilled by her aristocratic upbringing snapped her awake quickly. She freshened up and changed into fresh clothes. Even though Zhen Meiyi was her maid and they’d grown up together, in a society where same-sex reproduction was the norm, certain boundaries still had to be maintained.
Yang Xiyan chose a white evening gown and high heels for breakfast; a simple meal that somehow felt like a grand ball, so formal it made the maid’s lips twitch. Yet she remained as composed as a frosty lotus on a distant mountain peak.
“Yan Yan, are you planning to visit the magical beast theme park today?” one of the girls at the table asked.
“I’d love to go too,” another chimed in.
“Mmm,” Yang Xiyan replied gracefully between bites.
“Listen, yesterday, the young lady and I almost got to see Lady Liu Ying! We were this close—it’s such a shame,” the maid, Zhen Meiyi, pouted. “She helped me once, but I still don’t even know what she looks like.”
“Hehe, she must be incredibly beautiful,” another girl giggled.
“Why does Lady Liu Ying always wear a mask, anyway?”
“Either way, she’s not as pretty as our young lady,” the only male in the room. Dressed like a bodyguard and thus not seated with the girls; chimed in uninvited.
“Perhaps she’s afraid of being recognized,” Yang Xiyan replied coolly, her tone soft yet distant. A stark contrast to her demeanor at last night’s ball.
The Ice Beauty, Yang Xiyan, the noble eldest daughter of the Yang family, was as beautiful as a fairy. Everyone had long grown accustomed to her demeanor and took it in stride. It was said that she only revealed her true self in front of those she was familiar with.
After breakfast, Yang Xiyan followed her maid around for a stroll. They were currently staying in the safe zone of M City on the Monster Island, managed by the City Lord’s residence. The most interesting place here was undoubtedly the “Monster Theme Park.”
In this era, some monsters had even been domesticated and kept in zoos.
As they wandered around, the maid, Yi Yi, bought two tiger-head masks and said excitedly, “Miss, these are the same style of tiger-head masks as Lady Liu Ying’s! They seem to be a specialty of this park.”
Yang Xiyan was instantly overjoyed and quickly put on the mask before boarding the sightseeing vehicle. The moment she stepped onto the vehicle, she nearly thanked the heavens and all the gods. Wearing the mask was truly a blessing.
“Everyone ready? Vehicle No. 16 is about to depart,” the tour guide greeted her cheerfully, introducing the nearby scenery and monsters along the way.
But Yang Xiyan felt a little uneasy.
Because there was someone familiar on the sightseeing vehicle.
It was Xia Qiu, the one who had helped her last night.
“Rawr, rawr~” Liu Ying clung to the handrail, joining the other passengers in playful roars, fully immersing herself in the life of an ordinary person. Having come to M City, she naturally wouldn’t miss this tourist attraction. She had arrived early in the morning and, upon seeing the enormous herbivorous monsters, enthusiastically played the role of a regular visitor.
“Hey, beautiful, if you feel scared, you can hold my hand~” The buzz-cut guy sitting next to Liu Ying laughed, staring at her without blinking, utterly entranced.
The so-called sightseeing vehicle was actually a transparent spherical structure made of glass, propelled by wind elemental energy. As a result, the vehicle floated, moving at a leisurely pace, allowing passengers to enter dangerous zones to observe the monsters up close.
“Sure, if I feel scared, I’ll definitely grab onto you,” Liu Ying replied with a sweet laugh, her snow-white legs elegantly crossed, her slender fingers delicately holding an ice cream as she ate. She was in high spirits and didn’t mind others sneaking glances at her, she was used to it.
“So beautiful!”
“Mhm.”
“Her smile is so lovely.”
Even the tourists who had come to admire the monsters couldn’t help but steal glances at her, turning her into part of the scenery while whispering among themselves.
“What’s so beautiful about her? If my young lady took off her mask, you’d all be gawking till your eyes popped out,” a girl’s muttering suddenly reached Liu Ying’s ears. Though the voice was extremely soft, her hearing was terrifyingly sharp.
Puzzled, Liu Ying swiveled her rotating chair back to face forward and spotted two girls sitting ahead, both wearing tiger-girl masks with fangs the same style as hers.
Though their faces were hidden behind identical masks, Liu Ying was quickly drawn to the girl beside the one who had spoken.
Her jet-black hair cascaded down to her waist, and she wore a simple floral dress, the hem revealing her plump, snow-white calves. The straps of her white sandals wrapped delicately around her exquisite, soft feet, exuding a mix of cuteness and sensuality.
A dainty bag rested on her lap.
This girl… wasn’t she the one from last night?
Yang Xiyan felt Liu Ying’s gaze and stiffened instantly. She shot her maid a fierce glare and whispered, “Stop talking nonsense. That sister is naturally gentle and beautiful. Keep your competitive thoughts to yourself.”
After speaking, she poked the maid Yi Yi’s head to stop her from talking, while sneaking a glance at Liu Ying, hoping she hadn’t noticed her. If Liu Ying found out she had been spotted, it would be utterly humiliating.
At that moment, however, Liu Ying seemed completely oblivious to her presence and instead struck up a conversation with the tour guide. “Guide sister, where are we now?” she asked, though the corners of her lips curled up ever so slightly.
“We’re in the middle section,” the guide replied with a sweet smile. “We’re about to enter the carnivorous magical beast zone. In another hour, we’ll reach the preparation grounds for the dragon-riding competition.”
Yang Xiyan, realizing Liu Ying hadn’t noticed her, let out a long sigh of relief. Thankfully, the maid’s words hadn’t caused any trouble. Otherwise, it would have been beyond embarrassing. Phew.
She exhaled softly, but her eyes couldn’t help but steal glances through her mask at the woman who was getting along so warmly with everyone on the bus. What was she doing here? It was so strange. And how could this person mingle so effortlessly with ordinary people?
As she secretly watched, their eyes suddenly met. Startled, she flinched like a frightened rabbit, hastily looking away with burning cheeks and her small hands clutching her skirt tightly, praying that Liu Ying hadn’t noticed her peeking.
But that didn’t seem very likely.
