When We Meet Again, She's Pregnant - Chapter 4
In the dance hall, two women swayed gracefully to the music. Already beautiful, they now resembled exquisite butterflies fluttering among flowers, drawing sighs of admiration from onlookers. The pairing of black and purple outfits suited them perfectly, creating a visually pleasing harmony.
Yang Xiyan followed her partner’s steps, growing happier with each movement, as if she were about to float into the air. Though dancing alone with her in the hall made her shy and nervous, her heart raced with excitement.
She didn’t understand why she felt this way.
“So beautiful!” someone exclaimed.
“Yeah, both of them are stunning.”
“There’s no way to join in, it’s completely their stage.”
“Well, what can you do? That’s Lady Su Ninaer.”
“What’s Su Ninaer?”
“A title for the greatest genius in a millennium—Liu Ying of the Liu family. She’s incredibly famous in the magic world, known for three major feats. The most famous was battling a thunder dragon at age twelve to protect the entire city. She also took part in the Bakar kidnapping incident four years ago and created instructional videos on magic cultivation, which are hugely popular among young people.”
“As for the other two feats, you wouldn’t understand even if I told you.”
“Wait, you didn’t know Liu Ying?”
“Of course I knew her name, but I never saw her face before.”
“Yang Xiyan is gorgeous, but if it’s Lady Liu Ying, then we can only wish them well.”
“Lady Liu Ying seems really interested in her. I envy her so much.”
“Yeah, being pretty really lets you do whatever you want. I wish Lady Liu Ying would invite me instead.”
“Ugh, why couldn’t it be me?”
“…”
Yang Xiyan knew the crowd was talking about them. After all, the two of them dancing alone was far too conspicuous. But with the music playing, she couldn’t make out their words, only sensing their gazes filled with envy and hostility.
This was an entirely new experience for her. Normally, when she danced with others, people would direct their jealous looks at her partner.
As the song ended, Liu Ying still held her slender waist, tilting her head slightly to gaze into her eyes with a smile. “Miss Yang, shall we dance again?”
Yang Xiyan was about to refuse when the music started anew, and Liu Ying effortlessly guided her into motion. As she spun in her arms, frustration bubbled up until a soft voice whispered by her ear, “Does your foot hurt?”
“I-it’s fine,” Yang Xiyan stammered nervously, her heart pounding wildly at the other girl’s movements. She’s amazing. How did she notice? It almost felt like an invisible force was protecting her feet, making each step light and effortless.
She smells so nice. There was something mesmerizing about her scent, something that made her feel safe. No matter the dance move, she didn’t have to worry. Her mother had sent her to this ball to attract young ladies or gentlemen, but instead, she was the one being charmed.
She stole a glance at Liu Ying’s face but quickly averted her eyes like a startled deer when caught. After a brief pause, she couldn’t resist peeking again.
So beautiful. Her features were delicate yet carried an undeniable strength. Yang Xiyan had always been weak to this type of girl someone whose pretty, gentle face still exuded a dashing charm.
And her long hair. She’s such a beauty.
Liu Ying, of course, noticed the little beauty sneaking glances at her. At first, she enjoyed startling her. Her reactions were adorable but she couldn’t tease her too much.
Unable to resist, my gaze lingered on her face. She was indeed quite beautiful, especially those clear, innocent eyes of hers, pure as a blank sheet of paper. A girl like this could only exist if she had little exposure to society.
She was undeniably endearing, but was this really for the best?
I averted my eyes, letting them fall on her shoulders instead, and couldn’t help but marvel. So this was how fair a girl’s skin could be, so delicate it seemed like it might break at the slightest touch, like cream. It was enviable and…
Liu Ying steadied herself and noticed the girl was still sneaking glances at her. She chuckled and asked, “Is there something on my face? You’re staring at me so intently.”
“I—I wasn’t!” Yang Xiyan quickly looked away, her movements flustered, her face instantly flushing crimson. She had been curious about how impressive this person was and couldn’t help peeking. Being called out like this was so embarrassing and rude.
“Pfft!” Liu Ying nearly burst out laughing.
“…” Hearing the laughter, Yang Xiyan’s face turned even redder, like a flower on the verge of blooming, utterly beautiful though her composure was now completely shattered.
Suppressing her laughter, Liu Ying steadied her. “Even though you’re 19, you look like a little girl. Anyone who sees you like this would want to come over and invite you.”
Yang Xiyan tilted her head, blinking innocently, and answered obediently, “Mom told me to come.”
“Your mom told you to come?”
“Mhm.”
“No one here you know?”
“No.”
“That must be pretty awkward.”
After a moment’s hesitation, Yang Xiyan said, “D-Don’t laugh at me. I’ve never been to a dance at this level before. Though our family does hold these kinds of dances sometimes.”
“They’re all the same,” Liu Ying smiled. “You’re so pretty and so naïve, anyone who sees you would want to tease you. You need to learn to refuse firmly.”
“Oh.” Though she said that, Yang Xiyan secretly grumbled. How could she dare refuse? As if Liu Ying didn’t want to tease her herself! She’d deliberately said that to mess with her, thinking she wouldn’t notice. Hmph.
After dancing a few songs, Liu Ying finally let her go, taking her hand and leading her back to her seat before saying goodbye. Just then, Zhou Ziling came over to invite Liu Ying to dance, and the dance floor soon returned to its earlier lively state.
Curled up in her corner, Yang Xiyan watched them silently, her confusion growing. Even Zhou Ziling from the Zhou family was like this? Just who was this woman? She commanded so much respect that even the people who came to chat with Yang Xiyan now no longer seemed interested in pursuing her like before.
Those earlier guys had been painfully obvious.
Her mom had sent her here to mingle with these young ladies, but she didn’t want to. It was clear they weren’t sincere. They just wanted to have fun.
And she wasn’t here to play.
So, Yang Xiyan spent the evening chatting with those who approached her, waiting for time to pass. She drank a little, but not enough to get drunk.
Eventually, the dance finally ended.
Yang Xiyan sighed in relief, quickly grabbed her bag, bid the host farewell, and headed out.
The moment she stepped out of the Xiye Hotel, the icy wind and rain nearly froze her to death. Watching as all the other young ladies were whisked away in cars or motorcycles, and the young men much the same, she could only shiver in her thin dress, trembling in the cold.
She had a motorcycle in her spatial bag, but after some thought, she decided against it. Just as she pulled out an umbrella, she felt a coat being draped over her icy shoulders, instantly warming her up. Turning around, she saw the familiar smiling face of a woman.
Liu Ying held the umbrella for her. “Where do you live? Do you want me to give you a ride?”
“No need, thank you. I have clothes in my spatial storage,” Yang Xiyan replied nervously, handing the coat back before quickly scurrying away under her umbrella.
Liu Ying watched her retreating figure, lost in thought for a long while. Xia Lingxi, who had been standing nearby, stepped forward and looked at her in surprise.
The CEO’s younger sister seemed unusually interested in that girl. The way she couldn’t tear her gaze away. It was almost as if she were looking at a lover. But children from families like hers weren’t easy to approach. Getting involved could bring a lot of trouble.
“Miss Liu, if you like that girl, things like courtship are trivial. You could simply have your mother speak to her father. It’s that straightforward,” Zhou Ziling said as she emerged from around the corner, eyeing Liu Ying.
“I’m just a little curious,” Liu Ying replied with a smile, turning to her. “Miss Zhou seems to know her well. If possible, could you tell me about her family background? Thank you.”
Of course, she was curious about Yang Xiyan. This girl was her future wife—yes, if the timeline followed as it had before, in just a month, this girl would be drugged and then, by sheer accident, end up being taken advantage of by her.
After that, her magic would be sealed.
And she would become Future Ying.
Liu Ying still didn’t fully understand what would happen in the future, but she knew this girl was important. And after their brief interaction just now, she was certain Yang Xiyan posed no threat to her. Yet, preventing the future outcome was somehow tied to Yang Xiyan.
If only she could summon Future Ying here.
But the girl really was quite adorable. She wasn’t the cutesy type, yet she had the innocent, soft charm of a little bunny. Liu Ying could see why her future self had fallen for her. She ticked all the right boxes.
Of course, according to Future Ying, her Yang Xiyan seemed different cold and aloof. Liu Ying had wondered how she could ever fall for an ice queen.
Regardless, there was no way she could let Yang Xiyan wander off alone to the training grounds now. With that naive, bunny-like innocence, she might not even realize how she was being taken advantage of. She had to follow her secretly, even if it meant risking certain intimate encounters and the subsequent sealing of her magic.
