When We Meet Again, She's Pregnant - Chapter 10
No matter what, she would never allow herself to end up in the same miserable state as Mirai Uguisu. The more chaotic things became, the more she needed to hold onto herself. There was another difference between her and Mirai Uguisu. That girl had fallen for Yang Xiyan, while she only cared about Yang Xiyan because of what Mirai had said.
She wanted to see what kind of schemes would unfold.
Liu Ying soaked in the warm bathtub, reclaiming her peace of mind as she hummed a popular tune, her expression relaxed. The feeling of the bath was incredibly soothing, as if it could wash away all the exhaustion of the day, leaving her utterly content.
In the bathtub, half of her snow-white body was faintly visible, with an indistinct star-shaped mark near her shoulder.
By the time Liu Ying stepped out of the bathroom, it was already 11 p.m. Wearing only her pajamas, she sat on the edge of the bed, shaking out her dry, long hair, feeling refreshed.
Her phone showed two missed calls; one from her mother and the other from her mentor.
Liu Ying picked up her phone and dialed her teacher’s number. With a soft sigh, she flopped onto the soft, comfortable bed, hugging the blanket. The moment the call connected, drowsiness washed over her. Just as her eyelids grew heavy, a pleasant voice sounded in her ear.
“Hello.”
“Teacher, what’s up?”
“I heard you turned down the graduation process.”
“Mmm, I feel like there’s still so much I haven’t learned at school. Graduating now would be too soon. I’m only nineteen, just turned two months ago. Most kids my age are still in college.”
“If you graduate now, you’d practically be a legend, with limitless prospects. Any ordinary person with your level would definitely graduate,” her teacher chuckled. “But for you, graduating too soon might not be a good thing.”
“Maybe.” Liu Ying hugged the blanket, revealing a slender, snow-white calf as she swung it playfully.
“Oh, right you’re in the safe zone of Monster Island now, aren’t you?”
“Yeah.”
“There’s something I’d like you to do for me.”
“What is it?”
“Bring me back some Snowbell ice cream when you return the kind made from the ice of Monster Island’s sacred Snowbell Mountain. I haven’t had it in ages.”
“…Fine.”
Liu Ying’s lips twitched. What a gluttonous nature. She shook her head and dialed her mother’s number, this time opting for a video call.
The call connected quickly.
A beautiful woman appeared on the screen, bearing some resemblance to Liu Ying, though she looked more mature, appearing no older than thirty. She seemed to be in some kind of palace, and due to the time difference, it was morning where she was.
“Getting ready for bed?” she asked simply, her voice cool yet gentle—the kind most people wouldn’t dislike.
“Mm.” Liu Ying nodded obediently. “Sister came by. Things aren’t too serious for now. Is it morning over there, Mom? You look really relaxed.”
“Yes, your sister just told me a bit about it.” Mother Liu raised a delicate eyebrow, her deep gaze piercing through the screen as if seeing right through her. “She mentioned you didn’t stick to the original plan, you abandoned the optimal outcome and used monster cores instead of magic conduits.”
“Sister even tattles about stuff like this? What a meanie.” Liu Ying’s cheeks puffed out slightly, looking adorably sulky. If her friends saw her like this, their jaws would definitely drop. If this side of her were exposed at school, it’d be over for her.
“Your sister seems a bit scatterbrained, but she’s actually quite sharp,” Mother Liu said, studying her intently. “Has something happened? This isn’t like you.”
“Honestly, I’m not even sure if it’s trouble or not,” Liu Ying replied with a confident smile. “Don’t worry, Mom. Everything’s under control. I’ll be fine, and I’ll take good care of my sister too. There’s nothing I can’t handle.”
“You silly child.”
“Oh, and by the way, we can’t tell Mom about this.”
“Of course, I wouldn’t dare tell her. Just be careful, and if you run into any trouble, call me immediately. Even if it’s the ends of the earth, I’ll come running.” Mother Liu’s eyes twinkled with amusement.
“Aww~” Liu Ying chatted with her mom a while longer before turning off her phone and getting ready for bed.
Just as she turned off the lights, there was a knock at the door. Sighing, Liu Ying got up and padded through her cozy little living room to answer it.
Standing outside was a beautiful girl in a soft pink nightgown, her cute feet swimming in oversized slippers, hugging a pillow and smiling at her.
“Sis?” Liu Ying blinked in surprise.
“Yingying, I’m sleeping with you tonight,” Liu Zhao declared, holding up her pillow and marching past her into the room before she could protest.
Liu Ying couldn’t help but laugh. They were way too old for this, but what could she do? She closed the door and followed her sister inside.
Not that she would refuse her sister’s request. Chuckling, she took the pillow and set it on the bed, patting the space near the wall for Liu Zhao before climbing in herself.
No sooner had she pulled up the covers than her sister snuggled close, those lovely eyes gazing at her as she giggled. “You know, it’s been ages since we slept like this.”
Liu Ying shifted closer, thinking for a moment before smiling. “Yeah, it really has. Not since you graduated.”
Liu Zhao suddenly pulled her down into a tight embrace, leaving Liu Ying nestled against her chest, face pressed into soft curves.
Liu Ying squirmed to escape, but her sister held firm, pouting. “What’s this? Too grown-up to cuddle with your big sister now?”
Her ears burning, Liu Ying gave up and stayed put. It wasn’t like they were kids anymore; this was embarrassing.
Still not satisfied, Liu Zhao began running her hands over her sister’s body curiously. “Yingying, you’ve grown up so beautifully. You’re taller than me now, and your figure’s amazing. Though you’re not as soft and squishy as you used to be, hehe…”
Liu Ying’s face flushed as she tried halfheartedly to fend off the assault, but the tickling soon had her laughing helplessly, tears in her eyes.
“Not fair! My turn to check you out!” With no other way to stop the attack, Liu Ying launched a counteroffensive.
“Ah! Yingying, stop! Don’t touch there—it tickles! Hehehe—”
“Hahaha! You—you little brat! Picking up all the worst tricks! So mean! Hahaha—” Liu Zhao gasped between peals of laughter, clutching her chest and kicking adorably.
“See what happens when you pick on me, dummy?” Liu Ying giggled. Though the tussle left them both sweaty, the weight she’d been carrying lately seemed to melt away.
As they playfully wrestled, it was as if they’d returned to their childhood days.
When Liu Zhao was little, she was a lively, mischievous troublemaker who would always drag her quiet younger sister out to take the blame whenever she got into trouble. She was the kind of girl everyone adored.
Liu Ying, on the other hand, was the complete opposite—reserved, strong-willed, and the epitome of a well-behaved child. She never lied, always calm and composed like a little adult, earning the trust of all the grown-ups. So, whenever her older sister got into a fix and pulled her in to vouch for her, everything would turn out fine.
Now that they were older, everything had changed. The once-naughty older sister had gradually matured, her wild temperament mellowed under her sister’s influence, and she had instead become a master of coquetry, just like their mother.
Meanwhile, Liu Ying, who used to be quiet and withdrawn, had transformed into a social butterfly just like her sister completely the opposite of how she used to be.
But this was the sister she had always admired.
Liu Ying had thought that after all these years, she had grown enough to stand on her own and protect those she cared about.
Yet tonight’s lighthearted banter made her realize that her sister was still the same sister effortlessly seeing through her worries and lifting the weight off her shoulders with just a few playful words.
Honestly, it didn’t even feel like herself anymore.
“Hey, Yingying, last time I was negotiating with a client, and for some reason, he kept adding a ‘woof’ at the end of every sentence.”
“A ‘woof’?”
“Yeah, like, ‘Yingying, you dummy, woof!’ Just like that. I thought maybe he was cursed or had some werewolf bloodline or something. Turns out he lost a bet and had to end every sentence with ‘woof’ for a whole month, no matter who he was talking to.”
“Pfft!” Liu Ying couldn’t hold back. “What kind of nonsense is that?”
“Right? Isn’t it hilarious? Oh, and there was this other client who was super cute but always a beat slow. Once, I told a joke to ease the awkwardness, and it was dead silent for like ten seconds. Just as I was about to salvage the situation, she suddenly burst out laughing for several minutes straight.”
“Pfft!”
“…”
Just like that, the two sisters lay in bed, sharing stories until Liu Zhao was the first to drift off to sleep. Liu Ying gazed at her sister, who was now clinging to her arm, looking utterly adorable in her slumber, and smiled fondly.
Truthfully, her sister wasn’t the “cute” type standing at 176 cm, fair-skinned, with long legs and striking beauty, she was more of a classic stunner. But in Liu Ying’s eyes, she still seemed more adorable than anything. And it wasn’t like Liu Ying was much taller, just a tiny bit.
Tonight’s long talk with her sister had truly lifted the gloom that had been weighing on her heart, healing her like an angel’s touch. Now, when she thought about Yang Xiyan and Future Ying, she could approach it with much more clarity.
It also strengthened her resolve. She wouldn’t end up like Future Ying.
They had also talked about love, mostly with Liu Ying seeking advice since she was clueless in that department. Her sister, on the other hand, seemed to have had two girlfriends already, so she was far more experienced.
Liu Ying’s questions were mostly about Yang Xiyan. Maybe it was Future Ying’s lingering influence, but whenever she thought of Yang Xiyan, she felt strangely unsettled more than just ordinary concern. So, she gave her sister a simplified version of the situation.
I remember my sister staring intently at her face, her expression serious as she said, “Love at first sight isn’t unheard of, but your state doesn’t quite seem like love. Still, that girl actually managed to make my little sister act like this; how slightly annoying. Hmm, no need to overthink it. If you care about her, then that’s what matters. After all, the heart can’t deceive itself.”
“The heart can’t deceive itself?”
“Mhm, that’s what Mom told me, though I don’t really understand it myself.” Liu Zhao hugged her earnestly as she spoke.
Liu Ying’s brow twitched. “You aren’t exactly the theoretical type, are you?”
