- Chapter 32 - Wealthy World 3; The Expression of the Lowly, the Stance of the Highly
It was a nearly naked self-recommendation, as if he possessed no self-respect at all. Yet, his expression remained so playful that even when he spoke of a “discount” as if selling himself cheaply, it sounded to others like a haughty act of charity.
The expression of a lowly person, with the stance of a person in power.
Shen Ci said nothing. He only silently scrutinized the boy who had suddenly appeared by his side. From the skin to the soul, he tried to peer through the boy’s playful smile to glimpse his true intentions, wanting to clarify exactly what he wanted to obtain, just like everyone else who had ever approached him.
Regrettably, he saw nothing.
The boy, who allowed himself to be sized up so openly, had eyes devoid of any worldly desire, whether for money or for sex.
His skin was still scalding, and his constantly bobbing Adam’s apple silently testified to the restless heat within his body. If it were anyone else—even the Shen Ci of half an hour ago—they would have lost their sanity under such intense medicinal effects.
But the boy’s eyes remained clear throughout. He even had the presence of mind to anticipate the actions of Li Yanzhe’s group, bringing his phone into the bathroom in advance to mute it.
Could such a person truly be as simple as Li Yanzhe’s lover? Shen Ci found it hard to believe.
However, since the boy had helped him and had consciously avoided crossing boundaries, Shen Ci did not intend to investigate the reason for his presence. Besides, there was no need for them to meet again. Shen Ci had no hobby for stealing from others, even if the boy was just a lover.
Slowly withdrawing his hand, Shen Ci took a step back, breaking his perimeter around Chu Sicheng.
“I don’t need it,” he replied to Chu Sicheng’s previous question, his gaze never falling on him again.
This deliberate neglect caused Chu Sicheng to raise an eyebrow. He watched as the man lowered his head to adjust the belt of his bathrobe before turning to walk toward the door.
“I’ve booked this room for a total of one week. You can continue to stay here during this time and leave once Li Yanzhe lets his guard down.”
But after one week, he would no longer concern himself with the expenses of this room. Just like the boy himself, the room would be crossed off his schedule.
The glass door slid open and then slowly closed. Throughout this, Shen Ci never looked back. Then, with a click, the bathroom door was shut. The light, the sound of water, Chu Sicheng, and that room full of lingering charm and uncontrolled desire were locked away once more.
Shen Ci took off his soft, comfortable bathrobe and reached for the formal wear his assistant had just delivered. Slowly, piece by piece, he put them back on. He had lost control once tonight; that was enough. He would not allow himself to lose control a second time.
As the last button of his white shirt was fastened, Shen Ci turned toward the entryway. Opening the door once more, he transformed back into the unsmiling, eternally calm, and self-possessed eldest son of the Shen family.
“President Shen!” the assistant standing behind the door said respectfully.
“Let’s go. Cancel the vacation for these two days,” Shen Ci said while adjusting his watch. He thought for a moment and added, “However, don’t check out of this room. Go to the front desk later and check off all the services I previously declined.”
“Understood, President Shen!” the assistant replied immediately, bowing his head.
As he followed Shen Ci toward the elevator and passed the VIP room, he couldn’t help but peek at the door.
Services as usual. So there really is someone inside, right? Has the boss started learning from the rest of the circle and begun keeping a little canary?
At this moment, the assistant felt like he was consuming some incredible gossip. He desperately wanted to pry open the door to see exactly what kind of holy being could move his boss, who was always ready to achieve enlightenment and cared only about work! But with his boss right there, he had the urge but not the courage. He could only suppress his excitement. After Shen Ci left, he ran to the front desk to add back all the services Shen Ci had previously canceled.
Considering it might be the person’s first time, he even asked the front desk to prepare extra blood-replenishing meals and some ointments that might be useful for a first-timer.
As the assistant walked out of the hotel, having arranged 3601 perfectly, every step was filled with pride. Thoughtful! Simply too thoughtful! Was there any assistant in the world more thoughtful than him? No!
The little assistant gallantly straightened his tie, waiting for the little canary to praise his meticulous arrangements to the boss, welcoming a bright future of promotions and raises.
However, when Chu Sicheng woke up the next morning and saw the trolley filled with red dates, bird’s nest, goji berries, and what the waiter called a thousand-year-old ginseng, he felt like his nose would start bleeding before he even ate.
“What is the meaning of this?” He picked up a small tube of ointment from the second layer of the box. After seeing the large characters for “Anus Relief Cream” on it, his brain, previously full of complaints, was left with nothing but a row of dots.
“Ah! This was specifically prepared for you by Mr. Shen,” the waiter said cheerfully, apparently oblivious to Chu Sicheng’s current expression. “Rest assured, this ointment is highly praised by our guests. It works fast and the results are excellent. In just one day, it will make you bloom again!”
Make him bloom? Fine. Very fine.
Chu Sicheng let out an ambiguous chuckle at the ointment in his hand, then stuffed it into the small black bag he prepared to take with him. As for the table full of bird’s nest and brown sugar water, Chu Sicheng had them removed and replaced with a normal breakfast.
Biting into a hot, freshly made meat bun, Chu Sicheng glanced at the motionless mission progress bar and finally remembered his phone that he had muted last night. He fished out the broken phone, which was scalding from charging under the pillow. He unlocked the screen, and the next second, it froze under the weight of countless missed calls and messages.
Such a grand occasion was not caused by Li Yanzhe alone. As a CEO, he had his dignity; he would never behave so despicably as to call a canary repeatedly until they answered.
Chu Sicheng checked. Including the call from last night to verify his presence, Li Yanzhe had called him three times and sent two messages. The rest of the messages that nearly made his phone explode came from his alcoholic father, his siblings in school, and his mother, who was sick but stayed up all night.
Chu Sicheng saw a new incoming call on the screen and clicked to answer. Before he could speak, a sharp scream came from the other end: “Song Le’an! So you finally know how to pick up the phone!”
Chu Sicheng moved the phone away from his ear and confirmed the caller ID. It was indeed the “Brother.” Why was it that the protagonist’s brother was allowed to be so rude? He didn’t speak.
The person on the other end clearly had no intention of listening anyway. After questioning why he hadn’t answered, he immediately brought up the topic of money. “I don’t care what you were doing yesterday, but since you’re answering now, hurry up and transfer ten thousand yuan to me. I need it urgently! Also, once you’re done, go ask President Li why the credit card he gave me suddenly stopped working!”
Song Leming stood at the front desk of a luxurious restaurant, tapping the invalid credit card against the table while screaming into his latest fruit-branded phone. “What on earth is going on with you? Lemei just called me saying she couldn’t reach you. Did you know Mother’s medical expenses have been cut off? Did you do something to offend President Li? Let me tell you, Song Le’an, you need to weigh your own worth. Go apologize immediately. Do you have any idea who our whole family relies on to survive?!”
Song Leming’s lecture was full of “wisdom,” telling Song Le’an not to be ungrateful and to go kneel and apologize to Li Yanzhe.
Chu Sicheng listened for a moment, changed the caller name from “Brother” to “Parasitic Maggot,” and interrupted the fatherly teaching. “I just checked; I only have two hundred in my WeChat wallet.”
He should have had five hundred, but Song Le’an skipped work last night, so his five-hundred-yuan salary went down the drain. This was the first time he played such a poor protagonist. Two hundred yuan. He felt the sting in his pocket, and Song Leming felt the amount was even more pathetic. He screamed in shock, “Two hundred? What the hell can two hundred do! I’m telling you, Song…”
“Life is difficult, isn’t it?” Chu Sicheng interrupted gently. “Then you should just go die.”
He spoke softly, sounding no different than before, perhaps even more tender. But his words were like a heavy stone. “I think you’re right about one thing. You should have some idea of who you’re relying on to live right now.”
Song Leming stood frozen in place for a long time before finding his voice. “What do you mean?”
“You really are a pig born of stupidity. Can’t you understand human speech? I have no hobby for playing the lute to a pig. If you don’t understand, just go die.”
Song Leming was about to explode with rage. “So, you just don’t want to give me money, right!”
“Why should I give you money?” Chu Sicheng laughed. “I am neither your father nor your mother. Did I give you too much money before, making you forget who you are?”
Chu Sicheng leaned back against the soft, luxurious headboard. Everything around him was expensive; even the pillow at his waist cost five figures. But in this room, the cheapest things were his clothes and the hundreds-of-yuan exploding phone in his hand.
The lover of Li Yanzhe, who controlled a third of the city’s economy, used a cheap, off-brand phone. Li Yanzhe’s dog had a custom-made high-end collar worth over a hundred thousand. So where did Song Le’an’s money go? Chu Sicheng sneered. What did the family he supported at his own expense give the protagonist? Contempt? Disdain?
When giving becomes a habit, no one takes it seriously anymore. Song Le’an was the giver, and his family was the receiver. Chu Sicheng was neither. He had no sense of family and even less morality.
No matter how Song Leming raged on the phone, Chu Sicheng only had one phrase: “Then go die.”
Li Yanzhe was naive to think he could use family to threaten him into kneeling. Chu Sicheng hung up, turned off the phone, and spent the day eating and playing in the hotel.
“You’re saying no one has come out of that room?” Li Yanzhe asked in his dark office, his face grim as he listened to his assistant. “What about Song Le’an?”
“Nothing,” the assistant said cautiously. “The private detective said he hasn’t been to class for three days.”
How could a grown man just vanish? Li Yanzhe frowned at his silent phone. His stomach, which had been well-cared for, began to ache again. He unlocked his screen, scrolled down to “S,” and his finger trembled, accidentally dialing the number.
He instinctively wanted to hang up, but then he heard a “ring.” The call went through!
On the other side, Chu Sicheng looked at the silver-white custom phone he had just inserted a SIM card into. He looked up at the hotel butler. “You’re saying Mr. Shen renewed this room for another week, right?”
