- Chapter 23.1 - Zerg World 23: Remember, I Am Your Zerg Lord
The time goes back to half an hour ago.
Inside a private room scented with sandalwood in a quiet courtyard, sunlight streamed through the half-open wooden window. The golden light carved a beautiful circle on the reddish-brown dining table, like a spotlight on a stage, forcing the audience to focus on the golden capsule spinning incessantly under the male’s fingertip.
Alex narrowed his eyes, his long, thick lashes drooping slightly. His gaze unconsciously followed the fair fingertip upward, sliding from the slender wrist to the male’s crimson lips, and then to the cold eyes that stood in stark contrast to that red. His expression held doubt, but more than that, curiosity.
“Can this medicine really help you achieve your second evolution early?”
“What do you think?” Chu Sicheng propped his cheek on one hand and lifted his eyelids to glance at Alex.
“I think,” Alex frowned, “Fero likely isn’t that kind-hearted.”
Before he left, Fero had indeed put on an act of being crazed by love, appearing as though he’d do anything—even bow to a former rival—as long as he could have Friedrich.
But Alex still didn’t believe it.
This was a male who viewed Ryan as a thorn in his side and had once tried to send him to the execution chamber.
This was a male who, not long ago, had conspired with Friedrich to use fake pheromones to force Alex into heat, aiming to humiliate him at a banquet and tie him permanently to Elio. Would such a person really be kind enough to provide a capsule for an early second evolution just to help Alex and Ryan be together?
And all because he wanted to be with Friedrich, the other female who also wanted Ryan?
Alex felt that any Zerg with even a bit of a brain wouldn’t believe such a groundless story.
Therefore, the effect of this capsule was likely not to promote second evolution. Thinking of worse possibilities, taking it might cause severe adverse reactions, much like the fake pheromones Elio sprayed in the restroom.
Frowning, Alex’s gaze became even more guarded as he looked at the golden capsule on the table again.
“Maybe you should stop playing with it and just throw the capsule away.”
Seeing no reaction from Chu Sicheng, Alex paused and added, “Or do you want to use it to give them a taste of their own medicine?”
“Hmm…”
Chu Sicheng pondered for a moment. Instead of answering, he sat up straight and lowered his gaze. He grabbed both ends of the golden capsule and applied slight pressure with his thumbs.
With a soft click, the capsule was snapped in two.
Inside the golden shell was a powder of the same golden hue.
Chu Sicheng blinked and then tipped the powder directly into a nearby wine glass.
“What are you doing?” Alex couldn’t understand the move.
“What else,” Chu Sicheng replied nonchalantly, “I just want to taste what it’s like.”
Since he was already here, why not?
“???”
“Are you crazy?!”
Alex was stunned by Chu Sicheng’s casual attitude toward an unknown danger.
Seeing Chu Sicheng swirl the glass as if he actually intended to drink the concoction, Alex stood up abruptly. He crossed to the male’s side in two steps and grabbed the hand lifting the glass toward his lips.
“Are you sick?! You know this capsule isn’t for your second evolution, so why drink it? Aren’t you afraid it’s poisonous? What if it kills you?!”
“…”
Chu Sicheng didn’t speak; he just looked up quietly at the angry Alex.
The female, dressed in a black shirt, pressed one hand firmly against the table. Perhaps because of the force, veins were faintly visible on his fair skin.
His appearance was just as described in the original text: handsome and cold. His deep green eyes always carried a natural hint of gloom and indifference, as if no Zerg in the world could catch his eye or stir his emotions.
But at this moment, that rigid character description seemed to be breaking apart, bit by bit, in the flush at the corners of his eyes and the tightening grip of his fingers.
Chu Sicheng blinked, his gaze falling on a white smudge on Alex’s black shirt near the waist.
Alex must have brushed against the cream cup when he stood up in a panic. It was a thin layer on the black fabric, looking like snow that had fallen hastily onto a volcano, forced to melt under the heat of the boiling lava below.
Chu Sicheng suddenly smiled. His breath carried a noticeable heat, making the world before his eyes feel hazy, as if covered by a mist. He licked his lips and spoke softly:
“Alex, are you worried about me?”
“What else would I be doing?”
Alex was almost moved to angry laughter by the slow question.
“What did you think I was doing by grabbing your hand? Thinking you were drinking too slowly and trying to help you speed up?”
Alex sneered, “I think what you need most isn’t a drink, but to open up your skull and wash the brain inside!”
“Why are you being so mean?” Chu Sicheng’s mouth felt even drier, and his breathing grew rapid.
“I just wanted to taste what the water was like.”
“Are you a three-year-old? Thinking of stuffing everything you get into your mouth!”
Alex really wanted to knock on Chu Sicheng’s head to see how much cement was inside.
“You said it yourself, Fero certainly has no good intentions. This isn’t a drug to help you evolve early, so why eat it?!”
“I suppose you won’t be satisfied until you’re in real trouble.”
“Is that so?”
Hearing this, Chu Sicheng gave a low chuckle, as if he’d heard something amusing.
He seemed to finally understand the gravity of the situation from Alex’s words and stopped struggling to bring the glass of golden liquid to his lips.
Alex breathed a sigh of relief, and his grip on the male’s hand relaxed.
However, at that moment, as Chu Sicheng placed the glass back on the table with him, the male spoke suddenly:
“But, I’ve already been affected by the drug.”
The male’s voice was very soft and airy, like a feather that couldn’t land, yet it exploded like a thunderclap in Alex’s ears.
Alex doubted he had heard correctly and couldn’t react for a moment. “What did you say?”
“I said…”
Chu Sicheng placed his other hand over the back of the female’s hand.
Because of his weak constitution, his fingertips were usually slightly cool, but now they were as hot as fire. Combined with his naturally smooth skin, it felt as though he might melt into the back of Alex’s hand the next second.
Amidst Alex’s daze, Chu Sicheng looked up and gave him a slight smile, repeating himself:
“I’ve already been affected by the drug.”
“How can that be?”
Alex couldn’t understand. “You didn’t drink the liquid, did you?”
For a moment, Alex even wondered if he had a lapse in memory and the male had taken a sip before he could stop him. Otherwise, he couldn’t fathom how the other could be drugged under his nose without consuming the capsule.
“It’s simple.”
Chu Sicheng flicked the wine glass. As the crisp sound rang out, the reflection on the glass wobbled with the liquid inside.
Licking his lower lip, the male said calmly:
“Some drugs don’t just work when swallowed. Perhaps the moment there is skin contact, or when the nose smells it, the drug begins to take effect.”
At this point, the “drug” wasn’t just the capsule one could see; anything in the surroundings could be the medium affecting Chu Sicheng.
Like the glass on the table, the window that wasn’t shut tight, or…
Licking the inside of his mouth, Chu Sicheng leaned back and pulled his hand away from the female’s grip. His white jade fingertips moved, climbing up like the softest dodder flower until they caught the black tie matching Alex’s shirt.
“Congratulations, Alex,” the female heard him say. “Fero chose you to be my medicine.”
You are my medicine.
The drug I’m under is you.
Suddenly, the already quiet room became even more silent. The air seemed to stagnate, with only the occasional bird chirping outside the window to remind them that time hadn’t stopped.
Alex’s pupils flickered. Influenced by Chu Sicheng’s frequent lip-licking, his own mouth suddenly felt parched. When he spoke again, his voice was significantly raspier:
“Then, are you alright now?”
“Hmm…” Chu Sicheng frowned. “Maybe I’m okay, or maybe not.”
“Okay” because the soul inhabiting this shell had become numb to such feelings through countless experiences with drugs. “Not okay” because this young body was experiencing it for the first time, making the instinctive physical reactions quite intense.
Alex’s fingers tightened against the table. “What should we do now? Is there anything I can do to help?”
“Do something…”
Chu Sicheng couldn’t help but laugh. As the corners of his mouth turned up, his eyes held a hint of playful mischief.
“Do you even know what kind of drug I’m under, yet you want to help me?”
Alex froze. His gaze unconsciously dropped to the male’s watery eyes, then slid down past the reddened nose and burning cheeks to those crimson lips that were becoming even redder from constant licking.
A surge of hot blood seemed to swell in his chest. Alex swallowed hard, sensing that if he asked further, he would receive a dangerous answer he wouldn’t be able to control.
He felt as though the male before him had become a fire, such that every word he spoke might be ignited. Worse, he might be consumed along with those flickering flames.
But he asked anyway.
Emotions he could no longer suppress gushed from his heart. Alex lowered his lashes, and a hint of blue-grey uncontrollably spread through his deep green eyes.
Following Chu Sicheng’s lead, he licked his own lips. Then, as if opening Pandora’s box, he spoke cautiously yet resolutely:
“Then, can you tell me what kind of drug you’re under?”
Chu Sicheng raised an eyebrow, his fingers tightening on the tie to force the female to lean down further. He continued to play hard to get:
“I could, but what follows is paid content. I’m afraid you—”
Thud!
Chu Sicheng’s words were interrupted by a card Alex pulled from his pocket and slapped onto the table.
“This is my salary card. All my savings are in here.”
Alex’s gaze followed Chu Sicheng intently. He paused, then added, “Now, can you tell me?”
Looking into the female’s serious and stubborn eyes, Chu Sicheng suddenly wanted to laugh, and he did.
A low, clearly amused laugh escaped his lips. He laughed until the corners of his eyes were wet.
His blue-grey eyes became misty. His usually indifferent face was flushed pink from the drug, and his bright red lips were slightly parted. Combined with the faint citrus scent around him, he looked like a fairy fallen to earth, bewitching the heart and causing one to fall without realizing it.
“Since you want to know so badly…”
Chu Sicheng let go of Alex’s tie, but for some reason, the latter still felt the pull.
Especially when the male’s hand stopped in mid-air, palm up, his long, white fingers beckoning slowly toward him.
At this moment, Alex felt as if his tie was still gripped by the male’s fingers. Or perhaps that fragile tie had turned into a solid chain the moment the male touched it, making it impossible for him to flee—not that he wanted to.
Alex lowered his head even more.
The distance between the two Zergs was compressed further, but Chu Sicheng’s voice somehow became more blurred.
It was so blurred that even with all his concentration, Alex could only hear two words. Fortunately, they were the two most important ones.
“Aphrodisiac…”
Chu Sicheng gazed at Alex. Amidst the other’s stunned look, he parted his lips and patiently repeated:
“The drug I’m under has an aphrodisiac effect.”
So, how do you plan to help me?
“Alex, don’t you think it’s getting hotter around here?”
The beautiful female blinked, his voice soft and sweet like the ripest, sweetest fruit on a summer apple tree.
Alex kept his head down, the thirst in his throat becoming more obvious as the Zerg markings on his neck climbed upward.
His lips moved silently. Alex wanted to answer, but a split second before he could speak, a sharp pain struck from deep within his spirit—like a punishment from the Zerg God for his attempt to pluck the forbidden fruit.
“Alex?”
His suddenly limp body fell into an embrace filled with citrus fragrance. Alex wanted to say something, but only a groan of pain escaped his lips.
He seemed to be entering a new round of mental riot.
In front of a drugged Chu Sicheng, in this breezy courtyard where the door was only ajar…
Things seemed to be moving in the direction Fero had planned.
Not only were the protagonist and villain on the other side affected, but Friedrich before him had also trusted him again after awakening his memories.
Thus, the portable treatment device that the female had initially blocked finally found its way onto Friedrich’s thigh. The bloody silver bullet was removed, and the wound gradually healed under the white treatment light.
However, as the two got into the car to head to Qing Garden, Friedrich recalled the cold, indifferent look Chu Sicheng gave him before leaving, and the way he’d shot him without hesitation. He couldn’t help but ask again:
“Are you sure Ryan will definitely be drugged?”
He didn’t want to walk in and find two cold bullets instead of a feverish male.
“Don’t worry,” Fero smiled at Friedrich, then rolled his eyes and added:
“As long as he meets Alex, he will definitely be drugged.”
The meaning behind Fero’s words was clear; it was purely meant to provoke Friedrich.
After all, the male he had begged and pleaded to see had turned around and happily made plans to have lunch with another female.
For Friedrich, who was fiercely competitive in all aspects, this was certainly unacceptable.
Especially considering that male had just shot him.
As expected, Friedrich’s face darkened further at Fero’s pointed remark. His hands clenched together, and his voice sounded as if it were squeezed through his teeth:
“He wasn’t like this before.”
The Ryan of the past wouldn’t have shot him; even a small accidental scratch on Friedrich would have made the male’s eyes well up, even if the wound healed automatically within a minute.
Furthermore, the Ryan in his memory wouldn’t have looked at him with such cold, disdainful eyes, as if he were a piece of trash.
The male had always been gentle and careful with him, those clear eyes always filled with his reflection.
Friedrich remembered Ryan would cook for him personally. No matter how late he returned, there was always an orange light left on for him, and the male would be curled up on the sofa waiting for his return.
It was through such intense and steadfast love and care that Friedrich had gradually shed his hard shell and fully accepted Ryan.
He thought what awaited them was a happy life, but upon waking up, the whole world had changed.
How could this be allowed!
Friedrich’s lowered eyes were full of fury.
He was angry at his dramatic fate, and even more at the Ryan who had left him to go to another female.
How could he leave so nonchalantly after opening Friedrich’s heart and making him fall completely in love?
