- Chapter 16 - Zerg World 16, In the Future, You Will Die at His Hands
Half an hour ago, in that corner of the banquet hall where no Zerg had the time to spare a glance, Alex, who had just finished stirring up a storm, looked at Chu Sicheng lounging lazily on the sofa and asked curiously.
“Are we not leaving?”
Why were they still sitting here? Were they waiting for someone else to come and plot against them?
Chu Sicheng reached for an orange from the fruit plate. While peeling it, he said nonceremoniously, “Why should we leave? This play isn’t over yet.”
Running away at the first sign of trouble is not a villain’s style. Besides, dodging it this time only means there is a next time. As long as the “Bug” is alive, he can forget about having a peaceful life. Instead of escaping, they might as well make good use of Philo and Friedrich’s plan to give them a taste of their own medicine.
The white pith on the orange slices was carefully removed by the male. Chu Sicheng looked up at Alex, his eyes crinkling slightly as the demon tail behind him swayed gently.
“So, do you want to leave? Or will you stay and accompany me to finish this play?”
The male’s voice rang in Alex’s ear like an orange candy wrapping a sharp blade: sweet, delicious, and full of temptation. it made one uncontrollably want to draw closer and pluck it, even knowing it was full of danger.
Taking a deep breath, Alex looked at Chu Sicheng and slowly reached out his hand.
“Do I even have a choice, my dear trading partner?”
The rich citrus flavor burst across the tip of his tongue, and the sharp blade followed to cut his flesh, but what of it? Just as the male said, he was already on the same boat. He couldn’t hide, nor could he escape.
The amber champagne swayed slightly as their two glasses clinked. Chu Sicheng smiled, then remembered something and added, “What kind of drug do you think they will use to deal with you?”
“How should I know?” Alex blinked. “However, Friedrich should know. My physique is similar to his; we are immune to the vast majority of agents on the market. So,”
“The drug that works on you has a 90% chance of working on Friedrich as well.” The male swirled his glass, finishing the thought Alex had left unsaid.
But Alex asked, “How can you be sure Friedrich will definitely show up after I am drugged?”
“Elio can’t exactly finish you off in the restroom, can he?” Chu Sicheng countered.
Setting aside the fact that Elio, as a “noble” male, has certain requirements for the venue of his “games,” his inability to carry all his little toys on his person meant it was impossible for him to strike Alex directly in the restroom. Therefore, once Alex was drugged in the restroom, the one who drugged him would have to move him to Elio’s lounge. Since this matter was highly private for Philo and Friedrich, they had to ensure as few Zergs knew as possible.
One Elio, one Philo, and one Friedrich: two frail males and one powerful female. Anyone could guess who would be responsible for moving Alex.
Chu Sicheng calculated Philo’s plan perfectly, save for one point.
“Are you worried?” He looked at Alex. “What if that drug is part of the 10% that only works on you?”
At that time, a drugged female Zerg would have no strength to resist another female of equal standing.
However, “I’m not worried,” Chu Sicheng heard Alex say.
The female placed his wine glass on the coffee table and leaned back against the sofa, his arm resting naturally over the backrest, looking casual and arrogant. Chu Sicheng saw him smile and then say softly.
“Because I still have you.”
Because you are here, I am not worried about the plan going wrong. I no longer need to calculate every step or worry if every move I make is an error, because the moment the deal was struck, I knew I was no longer standing alone.
“This time, you will help me, won’t you?” Alex said.
Chu Sicheng was momentarily stunned, then let out a low laugh. “Yes.”
The male placed the peeled orange into Alex’s hand. “This time, I will help you.”
He might not have much morality, but his sense of contract was absolute. He naturally wouldn’t let his partner fall into danger.
To everyone’s surprise, the drug was neither the 90% nor the 10%; it was the extremely rare 0.01%: useless against Alex, but a perfect hit for Friedrich.
Alex looked at Friedrich, whose gaze was growing increasingly dazed, and turned to Chu Sicheng. “What now? Throw him in there too?” Alex pointed toward the stall where Elio was.
“No rush.” Chu Sicheng clapped his hands and stood up. “There is still one actor who hasn’t taken his place.”
“You mean,” Alex blinked, “Philo?”
“He’s coming too?” Alex was confused. “What is he coming here for?”
“What else?” Chu Sicheng tilted his chin toward Friedrich on the floor. “To play the hero saving the beauty.”
The moment Chu Sicheng smelled the citrus scent in the air that was remarkably similar to his own pheromones, he realized Philo’s plan might not be as simple as he and Alex had first thought. In the original text, to increase the attraction between the official couple, Friedrich could never resist the allure of Ryan’s pheromones; even a tiny amount would cause the female to lose control.
Philo might truly want to help Friedrich escape the engagement with Elio, but beyond that, he also harbored intentions of “capturing” Friedrich’s heart. In thousands of romance novels, the method that most moves a reader and increases affection is saving someone from a dire situation.
Thus, in today’s plan, it seemed as if Philo and Friedrich were plotting against Alex together, but in reality, all of them were pawns for Philo to use to increase his favorability score.
As expected, not long after Chu Sicheng stopped Alex from moving Friedrich, the sound of footsteps echoed outside again. Alex instinctively looked at Chu Sicheng, who made a “shh” gesture and pulled him into the stall closest to the door.
“Friedrich!”
As the restroom door was pushed open, a dramatic voice reached Alex’s ears through the thin partition. Chu Sicheng raised an eyebrow at him and moved his lips silently.
“See, I was right.”
In the cramped space, the male stood exactly where Alex could touch him with a single reach. He was all smiles, his face full of triumph. Yet, perhaps because of those innocent, doe-like eyes, even though his smile was full of teasing malice, it was impossible to hate him. Instead, it was…
Thump. Thump.
Alex lowered his gaze. Perhaps the surroundings were too quiet, but he could actually hear his own heartbeat. It was getting faster and more forceful.
The Zerg outside seemed to still be engaged in his dramatic performance. Alex unconsciously tugged at his tie. In the increasingly warm air, he finally couldn’t help but ask Chu Sicheng silently.
“How much longer are we going to stay here?”
“Wait a bit longer,” Chu Sicheng said.
As they say, ten minutes on stage requires ten years of work offstage. If you want a magnificent and stunning entrance, you must endure the loneliness before the curtain rises.
Alex was speechless.
Fortunately, the male outside did not keep them waiting long. After feigning concern for Friedrich, Philo, emerging from his emotional performance, finally noticed the oddity of the environment. Why was Friedrich the only one left in the restroom? Where was Elio? More importantly, where was Alex?
He had been watching from the corner of the hallway just now, and no Zerg had left the restroom! So, Philo’s gaze fell on the series of tightly closed stall doors.
The air seemed to freeze in that moment. Philo no longer had the heart to soothe Friedrich. He slowly stood up and walked to the door of the innermost stall, holding his breath as he tentatively pushed the door open inch by inch.
Based on his years of experience reading novels, any plot involving a restroom—whether wholesome or otherwise—usually happened in the very last stall. He wasn’t wrong; there was indeed someone in the innermost stall. However, as Philo looked at Elio slumped on the floor with his eyes closed, his life or death uncertain, his pupils shook violently under the overhead light.
So, where was Alex? Where was Alex, the one who was most supposed to appear here?
A wave of immense panic enveloped Philo. It was at this moment that a “creak” sounded beside him. Then, a cheerful voice shattered the dead silence of the restroom.
“Excuse me, are you looking for us?”
Slender fingers pressed lightly against the grayish-white door panel. The male wore a simple white shirt and the most common black suit trousers worn by low-level males. His eyes were curved, and his smile was clean and bright, just like all the underage males on Jewel Star: simple, ignorant, like a timid, captive kitten.
But was the male truly a docile, harmless kitten?
Looking at the smile on Chu Sicheng’s face, Philo felt a chill rise from his tailbone, crawling up like a venomous snake until it wrapped around his neck. Chu Sicheng stretched his body casually and lightly tapped Alex beside him.
The next second, the female Zerg stepped toward Philo as if receiving a command. Chu Sicheng leaned against the door, looking down at Philo’s increasingly terrified expression. His red lips curved up; he looked like a cruel ruler enjoying the final struggles of his prey.
He was never a kitten. He was a demon. A demon that had crawled up from the depths of purgatory.
Philo couldn’t help but take two steps back. Extreme fear left his mind blank, but the instinct for survival forced him to search for a way to save himself. In his desperation, he blurted out the first thing that came to mind.
“Alex, do you even know who he is? Why are you following his orders so blindly!” Philo pressed himself against the cold wall, staring at Alex and speaking every word as if he were a prophet who had glimpsed the future.
“Do you have any idea that, in the future, you will die at his hands!”
