- Chapter 21.1 - The Sweet Tale of a Recomposed Family
What on earth are you two doing?!
Oh my goodness gracious me, she truly is the female lead, isn’t she? Even throwing a drunken tantrum is done in such a unique, eccentric way.
System 009 let out a soul-piercing screech. It had only slackened off for a little bit, thinking that watching the two of them drink was far too boring. Who could have expected that the moment it returned, it would witness the female lead, Fang Yuqing, taking advantage of Chi Xia? It was so utterly shocked that it nearly flew straight out of the system space.
What exactly does the alcohol created by humans taste like anyway? I remember in one of the worlds, your father was a raging alcoholic who would domesticate-abuse you and your mother whenever he got drunk. Every single time I saw his eyes bloodshot from drinking, I felt that the demonic beasts in the cultivation worlds weren’t scary at all. He was the one who was a true demonic beast draped in human skin, rotten to his very core.
Chi Xia’s eyes flickered slightly, and she let out a cold sneer. “That’s exactly why he was the first person I killed after the apocalypse descended. If the plot hadn’t explicitly stated that he fainted and was eaten by zombies, I had a thousand ways to make his life a living hell. What a pity, his death was entirely painless.”
Comparing the two like this, I suddenly feel like the female lead’s drunken behavior is actually quite cute.
Chi Xia felt displeased and said, “Can he even be compared to Fang Yuqing? He was nothing more than a maggot hiding in a dark corner.”
Hey, you’re the one who just got taken advantage of, and yet you’re still defending Fang Yuqing.
Listening to 009’s complaints, Chi Xia fixed her gaze on Fang Yuqing, whose chin was still being pinched by her hand. She let out yet another sigh; she had already lost count of how many times she had sighed tonight, and most of them were entirely because of this drunkard.
“Why should I nitpick and argue with her?”
Chi Xia had never possessed a magnanimous or forgiving personality; returning an injury with a vengeance was her true nature. However, the current Fang Yuqing, who possessed absolutely zero lethality while resting in her hands, was fortunate enough to receive a rare concession from Chi Xia.
Fang Yuqing had no idea that she had been grumbled about by 009 for a long time. She swayed her head from side to side, her eyebrows tightly knotted together as if they were about to form a tie. If her chin weren’t currently under restraint, she would probably start partying right then and there.
“Still want to drink ice water.”
She held Chi Xia’s wrist with both hands, speaking in a pleading tone.
Her eyes were burning bright, looking at Chi Xia with complete trust, hoping to have another glass.
Chi Xia narrowed her eyes and said pettily, “Not giving it to you.”
“Why~” She scratched Chi Xia’s wrist like a kitten.
“Because I’ll be frightened by you.”
She seemed completely unable to remember what she had just done to Chi Xia. Licking her lips, Fang Yuqing shamelessly said, “It’s not like I can eat you, so what are you afraid of me for, you coward.”
Chi Xia could not ignore that hint of red on her lips. Seeing her completely nonchalant attitude, a sudden wave of anger flared up within her, burning so intensely that she wanted to tell Fang Yuqing exactly what kind of provocation she had committed just moments ago.
Does drinking water droplets not count as a kiss?
Of course it counts, her lips had literally touched her finger!
“Pervert, playing the hooligan just because you’re drunk.”
Fang Yuqing’s ears flushed a vibrant red, and she stiffened her neck, refusing to admit defeat. She was drunk after all, so one shouldn’t look at her with the logic of a sober person. Thus, she began to pick faults with Chi Xia instead, saying angrily, “Don’t think I didn’t hear you calling me a lunatic!”
Chi Xia was incredibly surprised. She leaned closer to sniff the scent on her body and teased, “The smell of alcohol is so strong, yet your brain hasn’t completely turned into mush? It seems that glass of ice water really did have an effect.”
“Dog nose!” Fang Yuqing pointed at Chi Xia, cursing with a silly grin.
The moment she finished her insult, she mimicked Chi Xia’s actions and leaned closer. First, she sniffed Chi Xia’s hair, then she sniffed her neck, and finally let out a satisfied sigh of contentment, saying, “You don’t smell like a little dog at all. You smell so good.”
Although Chi Xia knew she shouldn’t argue with a drunk person, she truly was too incapable of speaking proper human words!
“Fang Yuqing, speak like a human, please.”
Her forehead suffered an attack from Chi Xia, who was currently trying to push her away. However, Fang Yuqing dodged it; tilting her head, she unceremoniously rested it on Chi Xia’s shoulder. Tugging at a strand of Chi Xia’s hair, she said, “How did you know that this is exactly how I usually curse at you in my mind?”
Chi Xia was speechless. She waved her hand toward the bartender and said, “A glass of ice water.”
“I want it extra cold! The kind with lots and lots of ice! My face is burning so hot, it’s all your fault, Chi Xiao-er!” Fang Yuqing still remembered that her current state was caused by Chi Xia. She glared at Chi Xia with accusatory eyes, saying grumpily, “Why do you have to smile so beautifully? Just because you were born with a pretty face, you think you can be smug, huh? Tell me, are you using a honey trap on me again? Or do you have some ulterior motives!”
Chi Xia looked at Fang Yuqing, who was making a mess all over her, with utter disdain. She said coldedly and ruthlessly, “Yes, I have ulterior motives. I plan to torture you to death, to make you itch with hatred the moment you see me.”
The moment these words were spoken, the bartender who was pouring water couldn’t help but steal a glance at Chi Xia. Young people nowadays certainly knew how to play in quite colorful ways.
After spending a considerable amount of effort, Fang Yuqing finally managed to understand Chi Xia’s words. She burst out laughing with a puchi, “You are so perverted. But, you wouldn’t have the heart to do it.”
“Why?”
She pondered for a moment, “We are family, and we are also friends.”
Without leaving any room for sentiment, Chi Xia crushed Fang Yuqing’s innocence, saying, “Isn’t that just your one-sided belief?”
Fang Yuqing wasn’t scared by Chi Xia’s coldness at all. She pressed against the corners of Chi Xia’s mouth and forced them upward with a tug, “Chi Xia, saying things you don’t mean will get you beaten up. Why do you always have to talk like this? Clearly, you already consider me a friend in your heart. Isn’t it better to be genuine and honest?”
“I don’t.”
“You do.”
Fang Yuqing buried herself into Chi Xia’s embrace, wrapping both arms around her waist. Her voice was gentle and soft; compared to the music playing in the bar, it felt as though her voice was far more capable of bringing peace to Chi Xia. She said, “No, you don’t need to change. Being awkward, cold on the outside but warm on the inside is your charming point. If, and I mean if, you could try to let down your guard, and express everything you truly want and want to say… You don’t have to do it many times, just occasionally would be enough.”
By this point, Chi Xia was almost unable to distinguish whether she was truly drunk or not.
Otherwise, how could she utter this paragraph that was a complete waste of breath?
It was only out of consideration that she was the female lead; if it were anyone else, she would have pushed them away long ago and told them to stay far away from her.
Chi Xia calmly curled her lips and said in a low voice, “You’re drunk.”
Fang Yuqing looked at her out of the corner of her eyes. Seeing that she remained unmoved, she rolled her eyes in annoyance, drawing a teasing remark from Chi Xia, “So ugly.”
“What!?”
Chi Xia felt a bit dazed. Just a moment ago, she had been so heartless, yet the other girl hadn’t even bothered to bat an eyelid, reaching out to hug her entirely on her own accord while giving a speech that sounded incredibly far-fetched. She had originally thought it would hurt her, but the result was receiving a wave of comfort instead. How could she possibly be worthy of that? The girl should have pushed her away in disgust.
And right now, with this single teasing remark anyone with eyes would know she was lying, because the girl wasn’t ugly at all, she was a very beautiful woman this simple joke had actually managed to stir her emotions.
Why didn’t she get angry at her when she actually should be angry?
“Weren’t you… angry before?” Chi Xia asked aloud.
Forgive Fang Yuqing for having a low alcohol tolerance where three cups could knock her out; she had to think for a while before she understood what Chi Xia’s question was referring to.
Fang Yuqing let out a yawn, “Angry? Not at all. That’s just your personality, you’ve been like this since high school. I just know that you’re a good person, and that’s enough.”
“A good person?”
Chi Xia covered her forehead and laughed mockingly at herself, a hint of bitterness lacing the smile on her lips.
“The ice water for the two of you.” The bartender’s appearance interrupted their conversation. He looked at Chi Xia and Fang Yuqing with an ambiguous gaze before walking off to the other side; he certainly wasn’t going to disturb them.
Chi Xia picked up the ice water, “Lying all over me without drinking, are you waiting for me to pour it straight down your throat?”
Fang Yuqing half-closed her eyes, looking utterly lazy. She had always really liked the scent on Chi Xia’s body, and right now, she didn’t want to leave at all, “Am I the only one who gets this kind of treatment, or do other people get it too?”
She squeezed her throat to speak in a strange, theatrical tone, making it seem as though having water poured down her throat was a very enjoyable experience.
Chi Xia finally couldn’t hold back and scolded, “Be serious.”
Fang Yuqing laughed so hard that her body trembled, reluctantly sitting up straight as she said, “Alright, alright.”
She didn’t take the glass of ice water, choosing instead to sip it in small gulps right out of Chi Xia’s hand. Her red lips were soaked in water, looking like a flower petal that had fallen into a crystal-clear spring, vivid and tender.
“Can’t drink anymore.” Fang Yuqing stared at Chi Xia pitifully.
Chi Xia also finally pulled her gaze away from her lips, saying indifferently, “Then don’t drink it.”
Fang Yuqing opened her arms wide, wanting to lean against Chi Xia again, but upon receiving a sharp glare from her, she pursed her lips in boredom. Tilting her face, she slumped onto the bar counter and said, “I might not be my mother’s biological daughter.”
Chi Xia was greatly shocked, entirely unable to maintain the composure on her face. Who could have possibly anticipated that Fang Yuqing would suddenly drop such a bombshell out of nowhere?
Eh? What on earth!
Wait, wait, wait, let me go check the plot!
Alright, I’m back. There’s absolutely no mention of this part in the original plot line.
Chi Xia knitted her brows tightly and asked, “Where did you hear this from?”
Her mental state seemed decent; perhaps all of her dejection had already been cried out last night.
“I didn’t hear it from anyone else, I discovered it myself. When I was young, I heard the relatives’ children saying I was a bastard. My mother was furious and had a huge fight with them, which was considered turning the page over. In the past, my maternal grandparents weren’t affectionate toward me at all; I used to think it was related to my gender. In truth, it wasn’t just them; my paternal grandparents’ attitude was also extremely cold. I remember when I was in primary school, my grandparents would come to our house to cause trouble, wanting the house my father left behind. If the court hadn’t awarded it to my mother, she and I probably wouldn’t have stayed in that city for very long.”
Fang Yuqing gave an embarrassed smile, “Am I actually quite annoying, which is why I couldn’t get the affection of the elders?”
Chi Xia shook her head, “Not at all.”
Her unhesitating answer caused Fang Yuqing’s eyes to light up instantly. Covering her mouth, she snickered, “Hehehehe.” See, she really was a soft-hearted person who was just cold on the outside but warm on the inside! Look, isn’t her true nature showing now?
