When The Scheming Female Supporting Character Is Forced To Seduce The Female Lead - Chapter 4
The System couldn’t figure out Zhao Qingdai. In the end, it simply remarked, “No wonder she’s the one who single-handedly overthrew the cult. Impressive.”
Zhao Qingdai: “……”
Is this System a complete idiot?
Not long after Gu Cheng left, the caregiver arrived—a quiet, efficient auntie with plenty of experience caring for patients.
The next day, Du Jingmo came as well.
After carefully reviewing Zhao Qingdai’s condition with the doctor and giving instructions to the caregiver, she finally went to see the patient herself.
As soon as she turned around, their eyes met.
Zhao Qingdai’s eyes sparkled, fixed intently on her without blinking. A faint blush had returned to her previously pale cheeks.
Du Jingmo: “Why are you staring at me like that?”
“You’re beautiful, Sister,” Zhao Qingdai said, her voice tinged with nostalgia. “It’s been so long since I’ve looked at you like this. When we were little, this was my favorite thing to do.”
Back then, Du Jingmo would paint or play the piano while Zhao Qingdai sat beside her, watching for hours on end.
Looking back now, she realized many of the seeds of their current situation had been sown back then. She just hadn’t noticed.
How utterly foolish I was.
Hearing her reminisce, Du Jingmo sighed. “If you’d stayed as sweet and obedient back then, things wouldn’t have ended up like this.”
She pulled up a chair and sat across from the hospital bed. “Have you thought about what I said yesterday? The driver is still in custody.”
Zhao Qingdai had originally intended to settle the matter privately, but Gu Cheng’s visit yesterday had solidified her resolve.
“Let’s just drop it. As long as you’re okay, Sister, I don’t want to cause any trouble.”
Du Jingmo frowned slightly. “Why are you suddenly so ‘sweet’ about something that doesn’t matter?”
Reluctantly, Du Jingmo relented. After all, Zhao Qingdai was the one who had been in the accident.
Zhao Qingdai looked into her eyes and whispered softly, “If I behave a little better, will you like me a little more?”
Du Jingmo remained expressionless. “Why are you acting so spoiled?”
And in front of her, no less! What was wrong with her?
Undeterred by the rebuff, Zhao Qingdai chuckled, her eyes sparkling. “Sister, when can I be discharged from the hospital?”
“You’ve only been here a day. Why the rush?” Du Jingmo took out a thermometer. “Open your mouth. I’ll take your temperature.”
Zhao Qingdai obediently opened her mouth and held the thermometer, her gaze fixed on Du Jingmo as if she were gazing at a rare masterpiece, unwilling to miss a single detail.
After five minutes, she removed the thermometer. Just as she was about to call her “Sister” again, a phone call interrupted her.
Du Jingmo glanced at the temperature, confirmed she wasn’t running a fever, and stepped out to answer the call.
It was her brother, asking how to deal with the driver.
She glanced back at Zhao Qingdai, who was waiting patiently for her return, and sighed silently. “Forget it. She wants to settle this privately.”
Little did she know that the seemingly sweet and obedient girl was currently mentally sparring with the System.
The System was going berserk: “I told you to farm favor points, not hit on her! Why are you using your seduction tactics on the Female Lead?”
Zhao Qingdai whined, “But I can’t help it! I didn’t do it on purpose!”
[Ugh!] the System groaned.
She pulled the blanket up to cover her smirking lips. “Being alone in the hospital is so scary. When can I move in with you, sis?”
“Half a month should do it.”
[Ugh, this is unbearable.] the System grumbled.
This mission was too difficult, and she had to endure this spiritual pollution too.
Finally having managed to shut that despicable System up, Zhao Qingdai felt a surge of satisfaction. She began scheming about how to move in with Du Jingmo so she could keep up with the plot’s development.
After Du Jingmo hung up the phone, Zhao Qingdai cautiously asked, “Sis, who was that call from? Was it… President Gu?”
“How did you know his name is Gu?” Du Jingmo countered. “Do you know him?”
Zhao Qingdai shook her head. “Of course not! He came by shortly after you left yesterday, hoping I’d settle the matter privately. He even offered me money and left his business card before leaving.”
The more she spoke, the more aggrieved she sounded, her eyes reddening. “Sis, he was so strange. His driver clearly made the mistake, but the way he talked, it was like I’d be the selfish one if I didn’t forgive him.”
The System was utterly dumbfounded.
This was the first time it had ever seen a supporting female character poisoning the Female Lead against the Male Lead. If it hadn’t witnessed the scene firsthand yesterday, it might have almost believed her.
Du Jingmo was truly convinced now.
After the car accident, Gu Cheng had simply called the police and left. By the time her assistant arrived, her impression of the man had already reached rock bottom.
“And you still want to settle this privately?” she asked.
“Who can help being so magnanimous?” She wrinkled her nose and hmphed, a lingering redness still visible at the corners of her eyes. “Besides, I don’t want any further connection with this kind of person. Being hit by a car was bad enough and getting entangled with him would be even worse.”
She subtly tugged at Du Jingmo’s hand. “Sis, please don’t pay him any attention, okay? He’s not a good person.”
Du Jingmo chuckled. “How old are you? When you tattle, can’t you come up with something more sophisticated than ‘he’s not a good person’?”
Though she teased, it was clear the words still had an effect.
The System now looked at her like she was a clueless straight man being played around by a green tea girl.
“It doesn’t matter if I’m being silly,” Zhao Qingdai said, growing more urgent when she didn’t get an immediate response. “What matters is that you don’t pay him any attention, Sis. Okay?”
Du Jingmo agreed promptly. “Okay.”
She was indifferent anyway. She hadn’t even gotten a clear look at Gu Cheng’s face.
Zhao Qingdai breathed a sigh of relief.
Hospitals were too unsafe. If Gu Cheng could show up once, he could show up again. She couldn’t give them a chance to meet.
A week later, Du Jingmo was called to the hospital from school. Zhao Qingdai had fallen and refused help from the nurses and attendants.
Her first thought was that Zhao Qingdai was up to her tricks again, and she arrived with a hint of frustration. But as soon as she entered the room, before she could even speak, Zhao Qingdai blurted out, “Sister, I’m sorry.”
Zhao Qingdai’s eyes were red and swollen from crying, her hair disheveled and damp with tears. Her voice trembled as she spoke.
Du Jingmo’s irritation vanished instantly.
“How did you fall?” she asked.
“I was trying to go to the bathroom and slipped. I told the doctor not to bother you, but they didn’t listen,” Zhao Qingdai said, quickly absolving herself of blame.
Du Jingmo instinctively looked for the attendant. “Why didn’t you call for help?”
“It was too embarrassing. I was too ashamed,” Zhao Qingdai said, her face flushing deeper. “I thought I could manage on my own, but I fell. When the nurse and attendant came, I hadn’t even pulled up my pants…”
Her voice grew softer. “It was an accident, really. It won’t happen again. Don’t worry, Sister.”
Du Jingmo pressed a hand to her forehead, speechless.
“Did you change your clothes?” she asked.
Zhao Qingdai paused. “Hm?”
Du Jingmo patiently asked again, “Didn’t you fall in the bathroom? Did you change your clothes?”
Zhao Qingdai: “…I did. My clothes and bedsheets are all clean, I won’t dirty your clothes.”
She knew Du Jingmo was a perfectionist with a severe obsession with cleanliness, but she hadn’t expected that even after her heartfelt performance, Du Jingmo would still focus on her obsession with cleanliness!
Was her acting not skilled enough?
The System mercilessly mocked her.
This is how the Female Lead should act! How can you keep wallowing in the warmth of a green tea’s kindness?!
Her obsession with cleanliness satisfied, Du Jingmo secretly sighed in relief. “Your physical condition doesn’t allow it right now. There’s no need to push yourself. Did the doctor tell you that this fall worsened your leg injury?”
Zhao Qingdai didn’t need the doctor to tell her that her condition had worsened; most of her tears were from the pain.
She suddenly smiled, her tear-streaked eyes sparkling. “So, the first thing you did when you came to the hospital was ask the doctor how I was doing?”
She was just short of writing: “You’re so concerned about me! I’m so touched and happy!” all over her face.
Du Jingmo fell silent.
She did indeed ask the doctor upon arriving at the hospital, but her primary purpose was to inquire about Zhao Qingdai’s behavior during her stay. Her trust in Zhao Qingdai was minimal; if it weren’t for the accident, she would have acted as she’d previously threatened—she wouldn’t have cared if Zhao Qingdai died.
Seeing her expression, Du Jingmo felt a rare pang of guilt. “You need to focus on recovering. Once you’re fully healed, you won’t need a caregiver anymore.”
“I know,” Zhao Qingdai replied, a smile playing in her eyes. “I won’t make you worry, Sister.”
“This is your body we’re talking about. Why are you always putting yourself down because of me? You’re acting like…” Du Jingmo paused, searching for the right words, “…like someone obsessed with romance.”
She had spoken casually, and only realized the inappropriateness of her words after they left her mouth. Before she could correct herself, she saw Zhao Qingdai’s face flush crimson.
It wasn’t just her face—her ears and neck were pink too. Her eyes and nose, already red from crying, now made her look like a rabbit that had transformed into a spirit.
She was still that timid, easily flustered rabbit, the kind who would panic at a single wrong word.
Du Jingmo felt like something was definitely wrong with her.
She actually found Zhao Qingdai’s flustered state particularly endearing.
“Sister, what’s wrong? Did I say something wrong?” Zhao Qingdai touched her cheek, the warmth of her palm making her feel self-conscious. “Did I cry too long and ruin my makeup?”
“No, you look fine,” Du Jingmo blurted out the truth before she could stop herself.
“Really?” Zhao Qingdai’s smile outshone the warm sunlight outside the window. “Sister, it’s been so long since you’ve praised me.”
Du Jingmo’s expression darkened. “Stop acting so spoiled.”
Even when she was in her teens, Zhao Qingdai hadn’t been this fond of acting cute.
Trying to steer the conversation back on track, Du Jingmo said, “I’ll go inform Auntie about the caregiver. I’ll do my best to respect your privacy, but don’t push yourself. I don’t want to hear that you’ve fallen in the bathroom and worsened your injuries again.”
When Du Jingmo spoke with this authoritative, non-negotiable tone, Zhao Qingdai knew there was no arguing. She nodded obediently. “Okay.”
After Du Jingmo left, the System, which had been suppressed all day, finally emerged.
“I thought the Female Lead was going to take you home today.”
Even the System felt pain watching Zhao Qingdai’s fall.
This girl is truly ruthless.
The System asked, “What’s your next move? Another staged fall to use the ‘self-inflicted injury’ ploy?”
Zhao Qingdai’s face was full of disdain. “How can you even say something so stupid? How have you been leading missions all this time?”
System: “……”
Damn, I’ve been rejected.
