When The Scheming Female Supporting Character Is Forced To Seduce The Female Lead - Chapter 23
Zhao Qingdai had imagined that while Du Jingmo was recovering from her injuries, the two of them would have their own little world together. This sudden change threw her into a complex emotional turmoil.
She knew Du Jingmo’s childhood friends, but only in passing. They weren’t close.
She hesitated. “Sister, this is a gathering your friends are organizing for you. Is it really appropriate for me to attend? I don’t know them well at all. Won’t it be awkward?”
“The awkwardness will fade as you get to know them. Don’t worry, my friends are all good people,” Du Jingmo said, leaving no room for argument. “Since I can’t go out with my leg injury, they’re coming here. Unless you want to abandon me and go out alone, you’ll have to attend.”
The stakes had suddenly risen, and Zhao Qingdai’s expression mirrored her conflicted feelings.
Du Jingmo cupped her face, forcing her to meet her eyes. “You should make friends. Your entire life revolves around me right now. Don’t you think that’s wrong?”
Ever since Zhao Qingdai drunkenly went looking for her at the charity gala and nearly ended up as someone’s “drunk shrimp” (a term for drunk people who are taken advantage of), Du Jingmo had been concerned about her social circle.
The girl had no friends besides her. If she’d had someone to rely on, she wouldn’t have ended up alone in such a dangerous situation.
Ever since Du Jingmo had fished Zhao Qingdai out of the water, the girl’s entire world had revolved around her, her daily life completely centered on her sister.
“You should make your own friends, have your own social circle and life,” Du Jingmo said. “This situation is too confining for you.”
“I don’t feel confined at all,” Zhao Qingdai countered earnestly. “Have I not shown you how happy I am? Besides, aren’t the people we’re meeting today your friends? So this social circle still belongs to you.”
Du Jingmo: “……”
She couldn’t argue.
She gave Zhao Qingdai’s cheek a firm squeeze. “Then start expanding your circle from mine. Either way, I’m in charge here. Listen to me.”
Zhao Qingdai obediently let her sister pinch her cheek. “Okay, I’ll listen to you.”
Her initial reluctance vanished when she realized Du Jingmo had arranged everything for her.
Although Zhao Qingdai didn’t believe she needed friends, having her sister by her side was enough. She found herself drawn into the social circle Du Jingmo had created.
Du Jingmo’s childhood friend, Qiao Jiaojiao, lived up to her name—delicate and pampered, the polar opposite of Du Jingmo. She embodied the stereotypical spoiled, glamorous, and outspoken young lady, with a notorious temper and a penchant for drinking and brawling.
Since this was Qiao Jiaojiao’s gathering, drinking was inevitable. And why stop at a few people? Naturally, she invited a crowd.
Zhao Qingdai had never seen so many people in Du Jingmo’s territory before. The lively, boisterous atmosphere, filled with familiar camaraderie, made it impossible for outsiders to blend in. Even Du Jingmo, usually aloof and untouchable like a flower on a high branch, now carried a warm, earthy aura, her cheeks flushed from the alcohol.
Zhao Qingdai made no effort to join the group. Clutching her beer, she hid beside Du Jingmo, taking sips while keeping a constant watch on her sister’s still-bandaged foot.
Qiao Jiaojiao had drunk the most, but her eyes remained clear, showing no sign of intoxication. She wiped the corner of her crimson lips and steered the conversation toward Zhao Qingdai.
She asked Du Jingmo, “Why isn’t your little sister saying a word? Wasn’t she quite bold before?”
Her words carried a subtle sharpness, and Zhao Qingdai, accustomed to biting sarcasm, immediately picked up on it.
Du Jingmo straightened up, shielding Zhao Qingdai behind her. “Someone as boisterous as you wouldn’t understand what a sensitive girl like her is thinking. Can’t she just be shy around strangers?”
Before Qiao Jiaojiao could respond, Zhao Qingdai quickly brought over a plate of fruit, skewered some pieces with toothpicks, and offered them to Du Jingmo. “Sister, your wound hasn’t fully healed. Stop drinking and have some fruit instead. There’s juice, milk, and coconut water in the fridge. Which would you like?”
Qiao Jiaojiao: “Who has a party and drinks milk…?”
Du Jingmo: “It’s coconut juice. Not warm, it has to be ice-cold. You should try some too.”
Zhao Qingdai immediately sprang up, her slippers clapping against the floor as she dashed into the kitchen and returned with a jug of coconut juice.
Qiao Jiaojiao could only mutter, “Holy shit.”
She had underestimated this green tea’s level of skill. No wonder she could bewitch her girlfriends so thoroughly!
Wait, was that the right word to use?
Qiao Jiaojiao told herself it didn’t matter. She had come today not only to help Du Jingmo shake off her bad luck and improve her mood, but also to expose the green tea’s true nature.
Why were all of Du Jingmo’s recent misfortunes so closely tied to Zhao Qingdai? What were the odds? And considering the woman’s past record…
“Sister, have some coconut juice.” Zhao Qingdai poured the drink for Du Jingmo, then politely offered it to the others before finally turning to Qiao Jiaojiao. “Would Miss Qiao like some?”
“No, I can’t handle it.” Qiao Jiaojiao drained her beer in one gulp, then crossed her legs and leaned back on the sofa. “Drinking alone is boring enough, but now that you’ve given up alcohol, it’s even duller. Let’s try something else. Truth or Dare, anyone?”
She hadn’t come to seek opinions at all. Without hesitation, she produced a pair of dice from her sleeve like a magician. “This settles it. We’re rolling dice. Whoever loses will face punishment.”
Du Jingmo fell silent for a moment before eyeing her suspiciously. “Why do I have the feeling you came prepared? Are you really here to dispel my bad luck?”
“How could you doubt a little sister’s heart?” Qiao Jiaojiao feigned hurt. “Alright, let’s begin!”
She was a seasoned player. After three rounds, she smoothly passed the dice to Zhao Qingdai.
Zhao Qingdai was now certain that Miss Qiao was targeting her. She casually shook the dice a couple of times, then tossed them, rolling a three.
With this roll, she was almost certain to be the one facing punishment this round.
“I always thought I was the most cunning, but I never imagined someone could outsmart me,” she lamented to the System. “This Miss Qiao… she’s actually cheating!”
Finally having successfully outwitted Zhao Qingdai, Qiao Jiaojiao felt a surge of satisfaction. Without pausing in her drinking, she lazily asked, “Truth or dare?”
Zhao Qingdai resigned herself to her fate. “Truth, I guess.”
Since everyone present was a girl and Qiao Jiaojiao had always been discreet, Du Jingmo wasn’t worried she’d ask anything inappropriate. Seeing Zhao Qingdai fully engaged, her interest grew even more, and she even set down her coconut juice.
“I’ve been curious about this for a long time,” Qiao Jiaojiao said earnestly. “Jingmo is the most exceptional girl of our generation. The elders dote on her, and her peers adore her. The men who pursue her could fill two alleys, and we all just watch, feeling envious. Who can blame them for flocking to her? She’s beautiful, kind-hearted, and comes from a good family.”
“So, I genuinely want to know: how did a girl like you manage to steal three of Jingmo’s men right out from under her nose?”
The smile on Du Jingmo’s face froze. Her expression remained impassive, but her tone turned frosty. “Jiaojiao!”
That single name made Qiao Jiaojiao’s heart tremble, making her feel like a coward. But she didn’t feel she had done anything wrong. Instead, she puffed out her chest with a defiant huff and glared at Zhao Qingdai. “You’re already involved, so don’t tell me you can’t handle a little competition. Is that question so hard to answer?”
“Not at all,” Zhao Qingdai replied, sounding even calmer than Du Jingmo. “I didn’t succeed because I’m better than Sister. It’s simply that guys find it easier to take the initiative with a clingy green tea like me.”
“They can’t reach the bright moon, but when they coincidentally run into my deliberate provocations, they settle for second best.”
This answer left Qiao Jiaojiao speechless. Under Du Jingmo’s reproachful gaze, she forced herself to say, “Well, that’s… quite unexpected.”
Zhao Qingdai actually told the truth! Why isn’t this green tea playing by the rules?!
