When The Scheming Female Supporting Character Is Forced To Seduce The Female Lead - Chapter 14
Du Jingmo glanced at her hand, then at the message window, before curling her fingers into a fist.
Her first meeting with Gu Cheng hadn’t been pleasant, and the repeated episodes of losing control only added to her irritation. She wanted to block him outright, but remembering her father’s recent call, she held back.
She dismissed the unsettling feeling with a dismissive click of her tongue: “Ugh, men.”
Zhao Qingdai wasn’t so easily dismissive.
After hurriedly finishing her meal, she retreated to her room and asked the System, “What happened just now? Why was she suddenly taken over by the plot?”
The word “taken over” was all too accurate.
For some reason, the System suddenly felt a pang of guilt. “I believe it’s because… it was time for the plot to progress.”
This was supposed to be a sweet, bickering couple romance, yet the male and female leads hadn’t even sparked a single romantic connection!
“Gu Cheng used to be a CEO with absolute, crushing power, but now he’s just a desperate, clingy beta.” The System sounded increasingly distressed as it spoke. “Do you know how hard he’s been working? He’s even stolen your entire role!”
Zhao Qingdai stared blankly for a moment before realizing what the System meant.
That damned System was referring to her role in the original text, where she had been scheming to seduce Gu Cheng like some pathetic beta.
“…You’re the real beta!” Zhao Qingdai snapped, growing increasingly frustrated as she tugged at her hair. “Why are you pushing this WeChat message in front of me to advance the plot?”
Because you’re a Vicious Female Supporting Character.
In other words, she was a key character whose actions drove the story forward.
Unfortunately, Zhao Qingdai was a green tea who refused to play by the rules. Relying on her was doomed to fail.
Zhao Qingdai scoffed. “I’ve already gone straight, and you’re still throwing this annoying mess at me?”
Then, realizing the implications, she quickly added, “If I’m removed, will another villain appear to push the plot forward?”
If that was the case, it would be better to let her handle it. At least she wouldn’t actually harm Du Jingmo.
The System reassured her, “That won’t happen. Don’t worry. You’re still a proper female supporting character—a highly successful one, in fact.”
“It’s just that the direction of your meddling has shifted from the Male Lead to the Female Lead.”
Sometimes, changing your perspective can reveal an entirely different world.
Take Zhao Qingdai, for example.
According to the original plot, Du Jingmo and Gu Cheng were supposed to develop mutual feelings for each other. But thanks to her relentless efforts, Du Jingmo has finally set Gu Cheng’s messages to “Do Not Disturb” and blocked him from her social media feed.
She’s now worse off than an ordinary classmate.
If Zhao Qingdai’s system were the “Female Supporting Character Counterattack System,” this year’s performance would be guaranteed.
Hearing this, Zhao Qingdai felt a sense of relief.
She’d been genuinely afraid the plot might suddenly grant Du Jingmo a “dumbening” buff, making her suddenly develop deep feelings for Gu Cheng.
Though no such buff existed, the feeling of being controlled by the plot still made Du Jingmo deeply uncomfortable. Zhao Qingdai always seemed to sense her mood immediately. After dispelling her doubts, she was just thinking of how to cheer her up when the doorbell rang.
Her first thought was that Gu Cheng, unable to reach her, had come in a fit of frustrated anger. She hurried downstairs to block the door, but froze when she saw who it was.
Du Zhong had merely pressed the doorbell symbolically to alert his sister. He had let himself in and was already in the entryway, changing his shoes.
Zhao Qingdai stood stiffly, biting her tongue to bring herself back to reality. She waved in greeting, her voice trembling slightly. “Brother, you’re here.”
She called Du Jingmo “Sister,” but was more reserved with Du Zhong. At first, she always called him “Brother Du,” only later switching to just “Brother.” It wasn’t until she spoke today that she realized she hadn’t seen Du Zhong in nearly three years.
“Mm. Have you eaten?” Du Zhong asked casually.
He and Du Jingmo were clearly siblings, their facial features bearing a strong resemblance. Compared to his sister, however, the marks of time were more visible on him. Steady as a moon submerged in the ocean, even the act of changing shoes exuded a detached elegance, as if he had stepped out of a traditional ink wash painting—a man from another dimension, worlds apart from ordinary people.
And Zhao Qingdai was very much an ordinary person.
Having already torn down the castle of her fantasies, she forced a smile and replied, “I’ve eaten. Are you here to see Sister? I’ll call her for you!”
“No need. I heard the commotion from upstairs.” Du Jingmo descended the stairs and patted Zhao Qingdai on the shoulder. “Go back to your room first.”
She nodded hastily, turned, and hurried away.
Du Jingmo tilted her head, watching her retreating figure, and frowned. “Why does she look like she’s fleeing in defeat?” She turned to Du Zhong and asked, “What did you do to her? You scared her half to death!”
“Good heavens, I just asked if she’d eaten,” Du Zhong shrugged, smiling. “I can’t even control my own little sister—how could I scare someone else’s girl?”
The phrase “someone else’s girl” made Du Jingmo’s frown deepen. Before her brother, she shed her goddess-like composure, acting more like a pampered young lady who could throw a tantrum at will. She glanced upstairs to confirm Zhao Qingdai had closed her door, then snapped, “Just say what you mean. I don’t want any nonsense!”
Little did she know that even if Zhao Qingdai hadn’t closed her door, she wouldn’t have been listening in anyway.
Inside her locked room, Zhao Qingdai was asking the System, “Why is Brother Du here?”
How would I know that? Maybe… maybe he just came to see his sister.
Even the System sounded uncertain, its comical face breaking into a sweat.
In the original story, Zhao Qingdai and Du Zhong had significant roles.
After failing to seduce the Male Lead, this vicious female supporting character, determined to remain by the Female Lead’s side and continue her scheming, set her sights on Du Zhong.
This time, her progress was remarkably smooth. Not only did she seduce Du Zhong, but they even became engaged, poised to move into the Du family and for her to become Du Jingmo’s sister-in-law.
As original readers described this plotline: “The old centipede crawling up your leg—biting and disgusting you.”
The scenarios Zhao Qingdai feared most were the Female Lead and Male Lead getting together, and her scenes with Du Zhong. Just thinking about them made her scalp tingle with dread.
After regaining consciousness, she realized that someone like Du Jingmo—cold on the outside but soft-hearted—had grown remarkably tolerant of her after genuinely caring for her like a younger sister for years.
She didn’t mind Zhao Qingdai stealing her suitor or repeatedly trying to seduce Gu Cheng. After all, as a Vicious Female Supporting Character, she’d never succeeded anyway.
What truly made Du Jingmo despise Zhao Qingdai was her manipulation of Du Zhong, the man she’d called “Brother” for years.
And as the plot unfolded, Du Zhong even…
Knock, knock.
The sound of knocking interrupted Zhao Qingdai’s thoughts, sending a cold sweat down her back. She was startled awake.
Du Jingmo’s voice came through the door, tinged with concern. “Qingdai? What’s wrong? Why are you so quiet?”
She hurried to open the door, hastily straightening her hair and clothes, afraid any trace of her panic might show. “I was listening to music and didn’t hear you.”
Du Jingmo didn’t seem suspicious.
Zhao Qingdai tiptoed to peek outside. Du Zhong was already gone from the lower floor.
“Don’t wait up, my brother’s already left,” Du Jingmo said, walking in as casually as if she’d never left. She sat down on the edge of the bed. “I have a charity gala to attend tomorrow, and I’ll have to leave in the afternoon. I don’t know when I’ll be back, so don’t wait for me. Just eat properly.”
Zhao Qingdai immediately latched onto the important part: “Is Mr. Gu also going?”
Du Jingmo nodded.
“I see,” Zhao Qingdai murmured.
Du Zhong was probably here to persuade her. Du Jingmo’s hostility towards Gu Cheng was openly displayed. The forced plot development hadn’t sparked any romantic sparks between them; rather, it had backfired completely.
Father Du and Du Zhong had joined forces, one berating her sternly while the other offered gentle coaxing. Naturally, Du Jingmo relented.
“Tomorrow’s gala… do you think it’s not appropriate for me to attend?” Zhao Qingdai asked tentatively, her voice trembling with caution.
Du Jingmo was pondering how to answer tactfully when Zhao Qingdai waved her hand. “I shouldn’t have asked such a difficult question. I don’t really want to go either; I just haven’t been to one before and am a little curious.”
She held up her fingers to show the extent. “Really just a little. At most, this much.”
Having already given Zhao Qingdai a gentle push, Du Jingmo naturally followed through: “The banquet may be charity-themed, but it’s actually just a gathering of businessmen. It won’t be lively or fun. I’ll take you to a private party when I have one.”
“Okay!” Zhao Qingdai smiled brightly, her eyes curving like a child who’d been delighted by a single piece of candy.
Her every gesture radiated sweet docility.
Du Jingmo couldn’t help but sigh inwardly with relief. Thank goodness I managed to set her straight. Otherwise, the little sister I rescued myself would have been lost.
After giving her instructions, Zhao Qingdai turned to leave. But after taking only two steps, she paused and looked back, sensing something amiss. “Why did you seem so frightened when you saw my brother just now? Did he offend you?”
“Of course not! Brother has always been very kind to me. I just… felt a little awkward, like a child visiting relatives during the New Year after a long time apart.”
Zhao Qingdai’s comparison was so cleverly crafted that Du Jingmo was completely taken in.
Today’s sudden turn of events had solidified Zhao Qingdai’s belief that she was a character in a novel.
She took out paper and a pen and carefully wrote three large characters: Be Yourself.
Previously, Du Jingmo’s manipulation by the plot had been minor, with little impact on Zhao Qingdai. But she feared the day she would lose control and be forced to seduce Du Zhong according to the story’s progression.
The System suddenly chimed in, “Why are you so afraid? You’ve developed self-awareness, making you a complete person. No one can force you to do something you dislike.”
“That’s true in theory, but I’m still afraid,” Zhao Qingdai said, carefully folding the paper and placing it in her small purse.
“Actually, this novel’s plot development is quite reasonable. Although the later scenarios are a bit extreme, they’re still true to what I would actually do.”
Including seducing Du Zhong.
If Du Jingmo truly ended up with Gu Cheng, and Zhao Qingdai couldn’t seduce the chosen male lead or disrupt their relationship, then to remain permanently in Du Jingmo’s life, she would indeed become extreme and unscrupulous.
If she couldn’t be your lover, she’d be your family.
If she couldn’t even be your family, she’d be eternally hated by you.
In short, she had to stay by your side, becoming an existence you couldn’t forget, couldn’t escape, and couldn’t shake off.
