When the Possessive Omega Fell for Me - Chapter 32
The Inspector’s Office had clear working hours regulations. After returning to her office, Yi Jing organized the files for the case in District 7, and wrote up the minutes from the joint meeting she had attended earlier. Just as she was about to go hand them to De Lin Ke, she realized there were only five minutes left until 7 o’clock – the end of the workday at the Inspector’s Office.
With only five minutes left until quitting time, who would voluntarily work overtime?
Yi Jing put away the documents, reviewed the to-do list one more time, then got up and walked out of the Inspector’s Office building.
She was about to get in her car when she seemed to remember something. She turned back and went into the office building again, returning to her car about twenty minutes later.
The vehicles in this world could travel at very high speeds, and could even switch to low-altitude flight mode when necessary. The side windows would automatically darken during high-speed travel, so passengers inside couldn’t see out and people outside couldn’t see in clearly. This prevented passengers from getting dizzy from seeing the scenery whizzing by on both sides.
Now the inside of Yi Jing’s car was dim like this. Soft, gentle eye-protecting light shone down from the lighting system mounted on the car’s ceiling. That strange feeling of solitude made Yi Jing unconsciously look down at the bag beside her hand.
The takeout bags from the Inspector’s Office break room were quite nice looking.
The head chef had said that inspectors used to come to the break room to pack up desserts, so over time the takeout bags had become more attractive.
Looking at the takeout bag, Yi Jing’s expression softened slightly.
Since people were taking things home, it meant everyone had a home to go back to.
How nice, she had also found someone in this strange world to share the things she liked with.
The company car quickly arrived at the front gate of the Yi family estate. Yi Jing got out of the car carrying the takeout bag.
The Yi family estate was still hosting a banquet now. Yi Jing skillfully avoided the areas where crowds were gathered and took the back way to her own room. After changing out of her uniform and checking on the condition of the desserts she had brought back, Yi Jing happily took the desserts to find Yu Miao.
Because of the banquet, the Yi estate was decorated very elaborately everywhere. Probably only the more secluded spots would be quiet.
There happened to be a wisteria arbor at the midpoint between Yi Jing and Yu Miao’s living quarters. Although the wisteria blooming season had passed, the full canopy of green vines combined with the flowers blooming in the adjacent flower beds was still very beautiful.
When Yi Jing arrived at the arbor, Yu Miao was already there admiring the scenery. Her graceful figure among the green vines and flower petals looked like a beautiful fairy that had transformed from the flowers. Yi Jing couldn’t help but stand by a pillar behind the arbor and watch for a good while before calling out: “Sister?”
Yu Miao paused for a moment and turned around, just in time to see Yi Jing in dark, neat clothing standing by the vine-covered pillar looking in her direction, her usually cold eyes filled with pure joy. Yi Jing, tall and long-legged as she was, standing there so primly, looked a bit cute.
Yu Miao couldn’t help but raise her hand to beckon her over.
Yi Jing blinked, then approached very eagerly. The two of them sat down on the wrought iron chairs by the arbor.
As they moved, Yu Miao’s gaze inadvertently swept over Yi Jing’s exposed collarbone and the young alpha’s trim waistline. Her heart fluttered for a moment, feeling that the young woman before her would be more suitable than anyone for uniform roleplay, uniforms, chains and a black veil over the eyes.
Mm, it should be very delicious.
“Sister?” Yi Jing hadn’t noticed Yu Miao’s gaze, only thinking that the other woman looked especially beautiful wearing glasses, making her really want to… mm, want to kiss her.
If her sister looked disheveled like this.
It should look very nice, right?
Yu Miao could tell from Yi Jing’s expression that couldn’t hide anything what the little alpha wanted to do. She found it a bit amusing and lightly touched Yi Jing’s jaw, asking with a hint of a smile: “What do you want to do?”
Yi Jing’s face immediately turned red.
Yu Miao’s expression made her feel like all her thoughts that she was too embarrassed to say out loud had been seen through by the other person. She suddenly felt shy and handed the bag she was holding to Yu Miao: “This is for you.”
“Hm? What is it?” Yu Miao was taken aback for a moment, accepting what Yi Jing handed over.
“It’s a dessert. I happened to try it today and thought it was pretty tasty, so I brought you a portion,” Yi Jing said softly.
The bag had a built-in temperature control layer. Because of Yi Jing’s instructions, the head chef in the break room had been extra careful when packing for Yi Jing. In addition to the dry ice and edible ice cubes used to maintain the low temperature, they had also put some flowers in the bag. When the bag was opened, a faint floral fragrance and wisps of mist floated out together.
Yu Miao paused, looking at Yi Jing with some surprise.
Yi Jing just smiled a bit shyly.
Seeing her like this, Yu Miao couldn’t help but feel her heart soften.
Sexy puppies were certainly attractive, but the silly and thoughtful Yi Jing who naturally cared for her made her heart flutter even more.
“You remembered to bring me food even while at work?” Yu Miao was also uncharacteristically a bit embarrassed, her attempts at conversation more awkward than usual.
Yi Jing didn’t notice, still helping her get a spoon, and said without thinking: “Because I missed you a lot.”
As soon as the words were out, both of them froze, lifting their heads to look at each other.
The moment their gazes met, it was as if an electric current simultaneously connected their hearts. A tingling sensation flashed from deep inside, and the two of them were stunned for a moment before suddenly averting their eyes at the same time, their movements surprisingly in sync, both secretly blushing.
“Um… this is pretty tasty.”
After a long while, Yu Miao spoke first to break the silence.
“Y-yeah, I thought it was well made too,” Yi Jing said awkwardly, pinching her earlobe. “Uh! by the way, is the family still holding banquets recently? Has anyone been giving you trouble?”
At this, Yu Miao’s movements paused imperceptibly, and the faintly shy expression on her face disappeared, returning to her usual rational and aloof demeanor. She responded lightly: “Not anymore. Now that our engagement has been announced to others, hasn’t the First Madam specifically sent people to protect me?”
Yi Jing was taken aback.
First Madam?
“Do you mean Yi Sheng?” Yi Jing asked. “I mean, Aunt Yi Sheng.”
“Mm,” Yu Miao nodded. “It’s from her side. Her lover, Yi Mingyu’s mother, sent people over.”
Yi Jing was stunned.
Why would the First Madam specifically send people?
She clearly had no connection to Yi Jing, they hadn’t had any interaction for so long. Could it be, that she also wanted to win Yi Jing over for Yi Mingyu?
Originally, before truly understanding the scope of her authority and getting a sense of the gray businesses the Yi family might be involved in, Yi Jing hadn’t dared to be certain of her own value. She had only thought that as a younger member of the Yi family, with the backing of her high-ranking foster mother and a bright official career path ahead, her future potential was unlimited, and she certainly wouldn’t be easily discarded by the Yi family.
But now it seemed her value was far more than just that.
If the case in District 7 were to start being investigated now, and it wasn’t District 7 officials being investigated but District 9 officials – Xu Zaixi and the Yi family – with Yi Jing’s current position, there were simply too many things she could suppress.
The more Yi Jing thought about it, the more annoyed she felt. She became wary of Yi Mingyu first.
The protection from the Yi family’s First Madam could be said to be protection, but it could also be interpreted as threats and control.
Her proactive move of trying to exchange herself for Yu Miao still had consequences after all. These people were starting to try to use Yu Miao to control her.
“What are you thinking about?” Yu Miao asked softly.
“Oh, nothing,” Yi Jing said with some displeasure. “Just thinking about Yi Mingyu.”
Yu Miao: “Yi Mingyu?”
“Mm,” Yi Jing nodded. “They’re not good people. In the Yi family, you can only trust me, no one else. Even if they seem very nice, you can’t trust them. Only trust me.”
Yu Miao, who had just been considering whether Yi Jing would be suspicious of her private contact with Yi Mingyu and what to do if Yi Jing really did suspect her, was taken aback. “…”
Was this fool incapable of suspecting her?
She had contacted the First Madam on her own, going over Yi Jing’s head to agree to let them come protect her. Her little puppy was just a bit lovesick, not actually stupid. Shouldn’t Yi Jing suspect that she actually had other intentions?
But Yi Jing didn’t.
She stared at Yi Jing for two seconds, unable to hold back a laugh.
“?” Yi Jing looked utterly confused, staring at Yu Miao for two seconds before saying very unhappily, “I’m being serious!”
“I know, I know. Good girl.” Yu Miao said with curved eyes.
Yi Jing froze, immediately becoming docile.
Every time Yu Miao called her “good girl” she felt the term was very erotic, making her involuntarily think of some moments of being rewarded those kisses and touches, trembling bodies and mingled breaths.
Yi Jing’s gaze unconsciously slid downwards, and she responded: “Mm. So…”
Seeing Yi Jing’s expression, Yu Miao couldn’t help but laugh.
Actually, Yu Miao had never been one to overly dote on lovers or rather, loved ones. But the puppy wanting intimacy was just too cute, and the feeling of controlling the puppy’s desires was truly addictive.
“Shh.” Yu Miao gently stopped Yi Jing’s words, sitting beside Yi Jing and cupping her face to look at her for a while, then leaned in to kiss the corner of Yi Jing’s lips.
“?”
Yi Jing, who had been kissed, instinctively wanted to chase after and seize control, but was stopped by Yu Miao.
“Not allowed,” Yu Miao said, pulling back slightly. Her beautiful eyes held a hint of amusement, the light in them like a clear pond reflecting sunlight on a spring day, making one want to immerse oneself in them.
“Don’t move,” Yu Miao said softly, standing up to cup Yi Jing’s face from above. Her gaze was soft with a touch of seductive desire. “Wait for me to kiss you.”
Her voice grew softer and softer, and Yi Jing’s heartbeat quickened. She obediently waited for Yu Miao to kiss her, and then tasted, the flavor of the dessert she had just brought back.
So sweet.
“Good girl.” Seeing her somewhat dazed look, Yu Miao couldn’t help but kiss her again.
“Mm…” Yi Jing felt like she had been indulged a bit, but wasn’t quite sure, so she reached out to grasp Yu Miao’s fingertips, clingily wanting Yu Miao to stay a while longer.
Seeing her blushing face, Yu Miao found it unbearably cute. She laughed softly and leaned down to gently kiss Yi Jing’s cheek, whispering in her ear: “Don’t forget my documents.”
The warm breath carrying a fruity scent curled over her ear, and Yi Jing was stunned for a good while, taking half a beat to react and count her racing heartbeats.
What did she say?
Yi Jing stared blankly at Yu Miao’s retreating figure for a while, touching her earlobe and thinking for a good while before regaining her train of thought.
Oh right, Yu Miao’s documents.
Of course she remembered. There was nothing about Yu Miao that she didn’t remember. If she didn’t remember, she probably wouldn’t have specifically gone to investigate Xu Zaixi.
However, based on the results of her investigation so far, it didn’t seem easy to directly find evidence against Xu Zaixi.
So she would have to try a different approach.
As Yi Jing pondered, she opened her terminal and found that seemingly unreliable person in her contact list.
Yi Jing: [Are you there? I have a job for you]
Yi Heng replied instantly: [? What is it?]
Yi Jing: [Help me keep an eye on Xu Zaixi. Don’t you have a lot of friends? You should be able to track her movements in real time, right?]
Yi Heng: [???]
Yi Heng: [Sis, who do you think I am? That’s someone who works under Deputy Director Yi. You want me to spy on her?? If I had that ability, why wouldn’t I just take her position and work for Deputy Director Yi myself?]
Yi Jing: [Do you really like working that hard?]
Yi Heng: […]
Yi Jing: [Of course I’m not asking you to find out exactly what she’s doing. Just her movements. Her ‘location’ is enough. When necessary, give me an anonymous tip, understand?]
Yi Heng was silent for two seconds, then suddenly replied: [Wow, you really want to mess with her huh? Not even pretending to be reasonable? Did she offend you?]
Yi Jing: [It’s not about grudges, just something that must be done.]
Yi Heng: […]
Hey hey hey, this is even more terrifying, friend. You might as well say it’s for personal revenge. If there’s no grudge, why are you so determined to mess with Xu Zaixi? We’re all family, why resort to such tactics.
But Yi Jing’s next message dispelled Yi Heng’s concerns: [By the way, shouldn’t you be considering your own career soon? I can provide cover for other things, but you’ll have to handle business partners and projects yourself.]
Yi Heng, who had been hesitant before, instantly switched sides.
LOL who cares about Xu Zaixi, of course I’ll look out for myself first if I have the ability!
Their Yi family was never one big happy family anyway. It had always been whoever was more capable stood higher. Yi Jing, who was alone and vulnerable in the Yi family but bore power that others coveted, and herself as a neglected side branch, were naturally allies!
Yi Heng replied instantly: [Don’t worry, I’ll take care of it]
Yi Jing looked at those words, thought for a moment, and added: [Don’t do anything illegal.]
Yi Heng responded promptly: [Understood, I won’t drag you down.]
Yi Jing’s gaze fell on those words, and she laughed lightly, not particularly concerned.
Actually, getting back Yu Miao’s documents was not an easy task at all. First she needed to know what exactly those documents were for, why Xu Zaixi wanted to take them away, where she would keep them after taking them, and what she planned to do with them. Only then could she consider how to retrieve the documents.
She could slowly investigate the former, but she truly had no clue about the latter matters.
She couldn’t very well openly go against Xu Zaixi. The scene she had caused earlier in the central garden could already be considered opposing her so-called “family”. Repeatedly targeting people connected to the Yi family would certainly draw Old Master Yi’s attention.
She would be useful to the Yi family only if she could work for them, only then could she gain Old Master Yi’s support. But if she instead became an obstacle to the Yi family. Yi Jing didn’t think Old Master Yi would allow her to exist in that case, even with her great-grandmother.
The image of that seemingly simple and elegant old lady flashed through Yi Jing’s mind, but after just two seconds Yi Jing shook her head, tossing that thought out of her mind.
When she was a law enforcement officer with unlimited future prospects, of course she could receive a lot of love, because she was still useful.
But what if she became a stumbling block hindering the Yi family’s development? Would her great-grandmother still dote on her then?
If her great-grandmother would truly provide protection, how did the original Yi Jing’s mother die?
Heh.
Yi Jing didn’t trust a single person in the Yi family at all, so she needed a coincidence, a coincidence sufficient to cover up her actions.
Since Old Master Yi still refused to tell her what business the Yi family was actually doing, it should be quite normal if she accidentally caught her own family members, right?
She knew that doing this wouldn’t change much in the short term, but you have to eat an elephant one bite at a time. Some things couldn’t be rushed, so she would start by tearing open a gap with Xu Zaixi.
After organizing her thoughts, Yi Jing glanced to the side absent-mindedly, then couldn’t help but be stunned.
Huh?
Wait a minute, didn’t Miaomiao already finish the dessert? Why did she take the bag away too?
