- Chapter 50 - The Ultimate Contrast
Shi Yining turned her burning cheek away, her teeth unconsciously grazing her lower lip, leaving shallow marks on the increasingly crimson flesh.
Her voice was as faint as a mosquito’s hum, carrying embarrassment and a trace of undetectable panic. “Xuanqing Sect… has always focused on pure cultivation. There are no dual cultivation methods within the sect. I—I do not know how to do these things…”
Shu Mo smiled and lowered her head, kissing the trembling eyelashes of her beloved. “I can slowly teach you, Ning’er…”
Shi Yining couldn’t help but look up, her eyes filled with a mix of reproach and inquiry as she whispered back, “The Xuanqing Sect has no dual cultivation methods, but does the Yuehua Sect? Or are you saying…”
Fearing a misunderstanding, Shu Mo immediately explained, “In my past life, while purging demonic cultivators, I accidentally entered the ancient residence of a Great Power and obtained a secret method suitable for dual cultivation between women. When I held that jade slip, I thought of you, Ning’er… By now, I have memorized the contents of the secret method by heart… If you are willing, I will tell you the secret now…”
The words carried an undeniable hint. Shi Yining continued to bite her lip, gently pushing the person pressing against her. “Not now…”
Shu Mo held her tightly and wouldn’t let go. “Why not?”
Shi Yining’s breathing was unsteady. “Mo’er… you—you calm down… Inside this Taixuan Realm, it isn’t just you and me. Seniors Ruo Ying and Ruonian are also here… No matter what, it is not appropriate here…”
She paused, her face so red it looked ready to drip blood. When she spoke again, her voice dropped so low it was almost impossible to hear. “If… if the two seniors were to sense it…”
She didn’t finish the sentence, but the implication was clear enough. Their current intimacy—and especially any further intimacy—could very likely be known by others, even if it was just an accidental perception.
The strength of the embrace loosened slightly. The surge of passion in Shumo’s eyes receded a fraction, replaced by a deeper layer of consideration.
Even though her heart overflowed with a possessive desire for Ning’er, longing to possess her completely, she was equally unwilling to let their most private affairs be known by anyone else, not even through the slightest accidental glimpse…
Ning’er’s beauty belonged to her alone; she would never allow another to see it.
Seeing her beloved right there in her arms yet unable to “consume” her, Shu Mo looked at those blood-red earlobes and took a retaliatory little bite before immediately pulling away.
“Mm…” Shi Yining trembled all over as a numbing sensation instantly surged to her heart, making her momentarily crave more.
Suddenly, the weight on her lifted, and the crisp, cool scent enveloping her abruptly receded.
Looking up, she saw that the person who had been pressed against her just a second ago—looking as though she were about to turn into a wolf—had now slowly risen and retreated to a corner of the couch.
Shi Yining stared blankly at Shu Mo. The stirrings that had been teased out but left with nowhere to settle, mixed with the lingering shame, finally turned into a subtle, indescribable irritation.
After a moment, she propped herself up on the soft couch and carefully straightened her messy collar.
Shu Mo sat upright at the edge of the couch, gazing at her from the side. The warm light from the window traced her exquisite profile. Her long lashes drooped like butterfly wings, casting a faint shadow beneath her eyes. Her posture remained composed, untainted, and as ethereal as a cold mountain lotus.
Anyone looking at her would think she was a high-minded immortal, untouched by worldly desires.
Who could have imagined that beneath this cold, transcendent exterior lay a completely different side?
This ability to retract and release, to transform in an instant, created a breathtaking contrast. It made Shi Yining’s heart leap, almost making her believe the previous heart-pounding intimacy was nothing more than a ridiculous dream.
Shu Mo took in every detail of her reaction, the corners of her lips curving almost imperceptibly.
In those cold eyes, a flash of successful cunning flitted by.
Shi Yining bit her lip and gave her beloved a bashful glare.
Then, as if fleeing the flustering atmosphere, she quickly scrambled off the soft cloud-couch and, as soon as her toes touched the ground, moved to walk outside.
Before she could take a step, her cloud-like sleeve was gently caught from behind.
“Where is Ning’er going?”
There was a hint of undetectable tension in her voice.
Shi Yining stopped and turned to look at the sleeve being held, her gaze falling further onto those slender, jade-like fingers. Against the black fabric, they appeared even whiter and more translucent.
Seeing her lack of response, the jade hand tightened its grip slightly, pulling the two sleeves together in an indescribable intimacy.
Shi Yining suppressed the strange throb in her heart and slowly looked up. Meeting her beloved’s gaze, which was full of silent accusation, her heart stalled. She immediately explained softly, “I’m going out to look around. The spiritual energy in the Taixuan Realm is abundant; perhaps some rare spiritual herbs used for cultivation grow here. If I can find some, it will help you recover your cultivation sooner.”
She was speaking of serious matters and her true intentions, yet the slightly quickened pace of her speech betrayed the lingering unease in her heart.
The sound of rustling clothes came from behind her, and shortly after, Shu Mo stepped off the couch.
She did not let go of the sleeve. Instead, maintaining the hold, she took a step forward to stand beside Shi Yining, shoulder to shoulder.
“I will go with you.” She turned her head, her gaze landing on Shi Yining’s still-red earlobes. Her voice was incredibly gentle yet carried a tone that brooked no refusal, as if they were meant to be this way—wherever they went, they would go hand in hand.
Their eyes met. Shi Yining clearly felt the unmasked affection flowing from those bright eyes, and the last bit of irritation and embarrassment in her heart quietly dissipated.
She did not try to pull her sleeve away. She simply nodded gently, a faint smile unconsciously blooming at the corners of her mouth.
Her wrist was suddenly grasped. Jade-like fingertips slid one by one into the gaps between her fingers, and then their ten fingers slowly intertwined. A sense of tacit understanding and warmth flowed silently between them.
The moment they pushed open the door of the bamboo hut, Shi Yining met the warm, gentle sunlight. Her eyes squinted slightly as her gaze swept the area, immediately spotting a peach tree by the distant stream.
It was the peak of the blossoming season; the tree was covered in pink clouds of flowers, and petals fell in profusion. Beneath the tree sat two figures.
Ruonian was dressed in white, as pure as snow; Ruo Ying was in red, as bright as fire.
The two sat leaning against each other in silence.
Sensing movement from the bamboo hut, the figure in red moved.
Ruo Ying turned her head, her gaze landing on Shi Yining.
She froze for a moment, and then a complex mix of emotions crossed her face—guilt, relief, and finally, a firm resolve—as she slowly stood up.
Ruonian stood up with her, and the two sisters walked slowly toward the bamboo hut, side by side.
As they approached, Ruo Ying’s complex gaze lingered on Shi Yining’s face for a moment before she glanced at the calm-faced Shu Mo by her side. Taking a deep breath, she stepped forward and bowed deeply to Shi Yining.
“Fellow Daoist Shi, I apologize for my past actions. Whatever punishment you wish to impose upon me, I will accept it willingly and without complaint.”
Her voice was clearer and more earnest than ever before, stripped of her former eccentricity and ruthlessness.
Shi Yining gazed silently at the enchantress who had once viewed her as a mere sacrificial offering. The memories of those dangers and pains were still fresh, yet looking at the genuine remorse in Ruo Ying’s eyes—and seeing the gentle Senior Ruonian standing beside her—the last of her resentment began to quietly dissolve.
She knew that Ruo Ying’s obsessive and mad behavior, when traced back to its root, was solely to resurrect her sister. Now that the sister she had longed for was reborn and standing whole beside her, the obsession that had dragged her into darkness had completely vanished.
Furthermore, when Shi Yining had first awakened from the ritual, weak and dazed, it was Senior Ruonian who had gently fed her spiritual medicine and provided her with her initial care and comfort. The seeds of hatred had, over these days, unknowingly withered away.
Shi Yining spoke slowly, her voice peaceful. “As long as Senior refrains from evil and no longer commits such atrocious acts from this day forward, then all past grievances are hereby written off.”
Upon hearing this, Ruo Ying snapped her eyes up, her gaze filled with disbelief. “I… I treated you that way, used you as a sacrifice, and nearly cost you your life. Do you… do you truly not hate me?”
A faint, liberated smile touched the corners of Shi Yining’s lips. “In the past… I indeed felt hatred. But now, that hatred has completely vanished.”
These simple words caused Ruo Ying’s entire body to tremble. She looked into Shi Yining’s bright, clear eyes and knew she was telling the truth. An indescribable mix of gratitude and shame surged into her heart, making her eyes sting with heat.
She bowed deeply once more, her voice carrying an unprecedented gravity and promise. “Fellow Daoist Shi, I owe you a life… I shall keep this grace and virtue engraved in my heart. Should you have any request in the future—no matter what it is—as long as it does not violate the Heavenly Dao or my conscience, I will give my all to fulfill it, even if it costs me ten thousand deaths!”
As soon as she finished, Ruonian spoke up. “A-Ying’s actions all began because of me. This promise is one that I shall share with her.”
With the grievances fully resolved, the atmosphere instantly lightened. Shi Yining, keeping her primary goal in mind, did not stand on ceremony and spoke directly: “Our time within the Taixuan Realm is limited. Mo’er and I must go search for rare spiritual herbs that can assist in cultivation to help her recover her power as soon as possible. We shall take our leave first.”
Hearing this, Ruo Ying said instinctively, “My sister and I have nothing else to do; why don’t we search together?”
She glanced at her sister and received a gentle, affirming nod from Ruonian. She continued, “If we find anything, we will surely hand it over to Fellow Daoist Shi immediately.”
The proposal was reasonable and demonstrated their sincerity. Shi Yining considered it for a moment and looked toward Shu Mo.
A cold, clear voice immediately sounded in her ear.
“The space within the Taixuan Realm is not small. In my view, there is no need to move together. It would be better to separate; Ning’er and I will go as one pair, and the two seniors as the other, each heading in a different direction. This way, we can achieve twice the result with half the effort.”
Of course, the most important thing was… she and Ning’er would have more time alone.
