- Chapter 73.1 - Possessing the Whole World (1)
Gu Tang’s kisses fell like dense rain, leaving Jiang Yan’s mind a blank canvas, forcing her to simply submit.
As things spun out of control, she thought: I am a “love-brain” too, after all. As long as my partner treats me this way, I have absolutely nowhere to run.
Gu Tang was inherently a person of strong desires, and having gone without Jiang Yan for a long time, she knew no moderation.
Throughout the entire day, the kitchen, the bathroom, the bedroom—traces of them were left everywhere.
Jiang Yan lay exhausted on the bed, feeling delightful as she listened to the system prompt in her mind.
Sleeping is fine, she thought. It’s a mutually pleasurable activity anyway. As long as Gu Tang’s Blackening Value drops, I’d be happy to stay in bed every day.
Gu Tang wrapped one arm around her waist, gently kneading it. “Are you still hurting?”
Jiang Yan looked at her with half-open eyes, her tone noncommittal: “You try it?”
Gu Tang chuckled softly: “Alright. Next time, I’ll be the one lying still, and my wife can do whatever she wants.”
Jiang Yan buried her face in the pillow, feeling the movement on her waist, her inner turmoil refusing to settle.
How could a person’s demeanor change so drastically in just a few days? Was this still the Gu Tang she knew?
In the past, she would say sweet things in bed, but only in bed, forgotten the moment they were uttered. Now, she was speaking sweet nothings anytime and anywhere. Had she suddenly achieved enlightenment?
“Does this not feel uncomfortable?” Gu Tang stroked her head, freeing her face from the pillow and drawing her into her arms. “My embrace is more comfortable than the pillow. Just sleep like this.”
Jiang Yan figured that was true. While the pillow was soft, wasn’t a certain person’s chest even softer?
She rubbed against the two soft mounds, closed her eyes, and slept soundly. When she woke up again, it was past eleven at night.
The space beside her was already empty. She slowly sat up and called out a name. Gu Tang, dressed in her casual home clothes, walked in, carrying the aroma of food.
“You’re awake?”
Jiang Yan nodded dazedly, receiving a gentle kiss.
“Then get up and eat. I’ve made your favorite dishes, and I even stewed some chicken soup to nourish you.”
“Why do I need to be nourished? My body is perfectly fine,” Jiang Yan said. Her brain was practically non-functional when she first woke up, only able to follow the other person’s lead.
Gu Tang especially loved this innocent look, where her eyes were clear yet slightly hazy, like a fawn that had lost its way.
She lightly tapped Jiang Yan’s nose and lowered her voice: “So we can fight until dawn.”
It took Jiang Yan a few seconds to react. She grabbed the pillow beside her and threw it: “Get out!”
Gu Tang caught the pillow, pecked her on the lips, her eyes full of laughter.
Jiang Yan felt that if this continued, something indescribable would likely happen again. She quickly scrambled off the bed and rushed into the bathroom.
Sitting at the dining table, Jiang Yan looked at the unappetizing dishes before her, holding her chopsticks and unsure which to try first.
“Wife, do you not want to eat? Sure enough, I have no talent. Even my wife is unwilling to eat the food I made.”
Gu Tang lowered her head, looking quite dejected.
Jiang Yan quickly consoled her: “No, no. Making food this well on your first try is already great. You’ll get better and better in the future.”
As Jiang Yan spoke, she picked up a piece of sparerib and took a bite, finding it completely unchewable.
The sparerib was burnt on the outside yet raw on the inside—a genuine miracle.
“May I ask, how did you manage to get the outside charred while the inside remained uncooked?”
Jiang Yan was incredibly talented at cooking. Her first meal was delicious, and every subsequent meal was better, so she essentially skipped the novice stage. Thus, she found it difficult to understand how anyone could turn a sparerib into this.
Gu Tang wouldn’t accept defeat and picked up a piece for herself. It was indeed a failed endeavor. She was somewhat frustrated, and her eyes dimmed.
“How about we just order takeout? The restaurants outside are closed at this hour.”
Jiang Yan didn’t want to dampen her enthusiasm. She pointed to the other dishes: “Aren’t there others? Maybe the others are edible.”
What followed was an ordeal for Jiang Yan’s taste buds. The sweet and sour fish was so sour it was bitter, and the braised pork was so salty it burned her throat. The only thing that was barely edible was a bland shredded potato dish, which, despite being cooked into a mush, could still be ingested.
Gu Tang was extremely confident in herself, so she hadn’t even tasted the food before serving it. Looking at the expression on Jiang Yan’s face, she knew the dinner she had spent four or five hours preparing was a failure.
“Don’t eat any more,” she said, taking Jiang Yan’s chopsticks away, clearing the dishes into the kitchen, and pulling out her phone to order takeout.
Jiang Yan looked at the person staring at her phone near the door and said leisurely, “Now you know how difficult cooking is, don’t you? I cooked for you for two whole years, and yet you dared to secretly meet your ex-girlfriend at the company. That’s quite a nerve you have, President Gu.”
Gu Tang scooped her into her arms and rubbed her head against Jiang Yan’s hair: “I didn’t secretly meet my ex-girlfriend. She suddenly came to see me, and I couldn’t just kick her out, could I? I didn’t think she would lock the door. We were very far apart, a distance that you wouldn’t misinterpret.”
It’s true that the distance was considerable. Her office is large. She was sitting at her desk doing work, and Qiao Ling was on the sofa, with at least twenty meters between them. However, she hadn’t anticipated Qiao Ling being so cunning as to mislead the company staff and lock the door from the inside.
If she hadn’t caused trouble that day, none of this would have happened. Ultimately, it was my fault. I shouldn’t have allowed Qiao Ling into my office in the first place.
“Oh, so I wrongly accused you?” Jiang Yan asked matter-of-factly.
“No, no. My wife is always right. It’s all my fault. I shouldn’t have indulged our old feelings and trusted her again and again. I will walk around her from now on.”
Jiang Yan was satisfied with her answer. Remembering the phone call that day, she grabbed Gu Tang’s collar and moved close to her face: “Why were you showering at her place that day? What did you two do?”
Although she believed Gu Tang wouldn’t do anything to betray her, there was always a chance. Qiao Ling was beautiful and had a hot figure; what if Gu Tang lost control…
Jiang Yan’s eyes darkened, like she was looking at a cheating scumbag. Gu Tang was frightened by her gaze and immediately explained: “Absolutely nothing happened! The reason I went to find her was to warn her to stop bothering me and stop trying any tricks. Most importantly, I didn’t want her to upset you.”
Gu Tang spoke very earnestly, looking at Jiang Yan without blinking, as if she were making a solemn declaration, forcing Jiang Yan to believe her.
“That’s still your fault. You hid it from me that you went to see her, let her touch your phone, and even ruined our third-anniversary celebration. I’m going to hold a grudge forever.”
She is a Scorpio, after all, and has a little notebook in her heart specifically for recording grudges.
Gu Tang pressed her face against Jiang Yan’s hair, her voice filled with helpless indulgence: “Alright, alright. Hold a grudge then. I will make it up to you slowly. We have a lifetime together—we can celebrate our fourth, fifth… fiftieth anniversaries.”
Jiang Yan was mollified. She pushed away the person clinging to her and got up, walking toward the kitchen.
“What are you doing?” Gu Tang asked, puzzled.
Jiang Yan didn’t look back: “I’m going to cook for you. Are you accustomed to restaurant food?”
Gu Tang smoothly exited the takeout app and followed her into the kitchen, happily serving as her assistant.
Jiang Yan used the remaining scraps to make a mixed vegetable dish, then recooked the spareribs and braised pork, and also made a tomato and egg soup. When the four dishes were set on the table, the colors were vibrant and truly mouth-watering.
Gu Tang, unwilling to be completely outdone, brought out the chicken soup she had been stewing for a long time: “I’ve tasted this one. It’s definitely drinkable. You try it.”
Jiang Yan was half-skeptical. She scooped up a spoonful, and the taste was indeed acceptable. While not particularly delicious, it was at least better than the dishes Gu Tang had cooked.
“Isn’t it good?” Gu Tang asked expectantly.
Jiang Yan nodded: “Hmm, it’s actually not bad.”
What Jiang Yan didn’t anticipate was that she would later drink so much chicken soup that she would be sick of it. If she had known earlier, she definitely wouldn’t have said a single word of praise for Gu Tang.
After dinner, neither of them felt sleepy, so they simply found a movie to watch. Around one o’clock in the morning, Jiang Yan’s phone rang.
She looked at the caller ID: Yin Ziyan.
She initially didn’t want to answer, but the ringtone kept blaring, with calls coming one after the other without a break. She answered the phone, and Yin Ziyan’s slightly intoxicated voice came through:
“Sister, where are you? I went to your place to eat, and you weren’t home. Are you going to abandon me?”
Jiang Yan heard the noise on Yin Ziyan’s end, which sounded quite loud, so she asked her: “Where are you?”
Yin Ziyan huddled in a corner, scanned her surroundings, and frowned: “I don’t know where I am. Yin Zihan brought me here. Sister, I like you…”
Jiang Yan also frowned. From the sound of it, Yin Ziyan seemed drunk. If she was at a place like a bar or a nightclub, would she be in danger?
Then the voice stopped mid-sentence. Jiang Yan only heard a man’s voice, and then Yin Ziyan hung up.
Jiang Yan called back, but no one answered.
There shouldn’t be anything wrong, right? Her heart felt a little uneasy.
Jiang Yan’s expression fell under Gu Tang’s gaze, which inexplicably made her uncomfortable. She pulled Jiang Yan into her arms and whispered a warning: “You are not allowed to frown for anyone else. Your eyes can only be for me.”
Jiang Yan poked her head out of her embrace and said seriously: “Gu Tang, I think Yin Ziyan is in danger.”
“She’s so capable; what danger could she possibly be in?” Gu Tang was still hung up on the slight she had suffered at the bar last time.
Jiang Yan was still worried, hesitating whether or not to go find her.
The phone rang again. This time, it was Lin Miaomiao.
Jiang Yan was confused: Why are people calling me in the middle of the night, one after the other?
Lin Miaomiao’s side was also noisy, with human voices and music intertwined. Hearing it made Jiang Yan feel dizzy.
“Yan Yan, I need your help!” Lin Miaomiao’s voice was urgent. Jiang Yan quickly sat up in bed, only to hear her say: “Yin Ziyan is being beaten up. She probably won’t last long. I can’t leave right now. Could you please go and help her?”
Jiang Yan remembered the voice she had heard earlier, confirming her suspicion. There really was danger. In that situation, why did she call me instead of the police?
She couldn’t dwell on it. Jiang Yan flipped out of bed and quickly got dressed. To move easily, she specifically changed into jeans and a jacket, and tied her hair into a high ponytail. She looked both cool and bold.
Gu Tang looked dejected. She half-knelt on the bed, staring at Jiang Yan, her voice low: “Leaving me alone at home in the middle of the night to go find another woman… Do you not love me anymore?”
Jiang Yan took out Gu Tang’s clothes and tossed them toward her: “Stop the theatrics. It’s a life-or-death situation; I don’t have time to joke with you. Hurry up and get dressed. I’ll wait for you downstairs.”
Gu Tang’s eyes lit up: “You’re taking me with you?”
“They’re all men; I can’t fight them alone. Aren’t you going to help?”
“Going, going, going!”
Gu Tang quickly put on her clothes and followed Jiang Yan out the door.
Both wives were dressed in jeans and jackets, looking harmonious and undeniably cool. Even their beauty was perfectly matched. If it weren’t for the late hour and the lack of attention, their turning-head rate would surely be three hundred percent.
Jiang Yan drove the Bugatti like a QQ Racer, and Gu Tang enjoyed the thrill of going a hundred and eighty miles per hour, feeling a sense of freedom.
Night Color was a bar second only to Colours, located in another busy area, with no less foot traffic than Colours. Jiang Yan parked the car on the side of the road and split up with Gu Tang to search. She searched all around the bar but couldn’t find the person. Instead, she attracted the attention of many creepy men. One even blocked Jiang Yan’s path with a drink, forcefully insisting that Jiang Yan share a drink with him.
Jiang Yan’s eyes were icy. She said sharply, “Move!”
The greasy man was unwilling to be rejected in public. He jabbed the glass toward Jiang Yan, gritting his teeth: “It’s an honor that I’m willing to drink with you. Don’t be so shameless!”
Jiang Yan’s expression didn’t change. She took the drink from his hand and splashed it directly onto his face.
The man flew into a rage and tried to strike Jiang Yan. Jiang Yan kicked out, and he landed flat on his back.
Jiang Yan stepped directly onto the hand he was about to use to hit her and said condescendingly: “Why don’t you go piss in a puddle and look at yourself? You’re so creepy, even a pig would be too lazy to drink with you! If I didn’t have something important to do today, I would properly teach you how to behave. What kind of trash are you!”
Jiang Yan stepped off him, and the greasy man let out a shriek that drowned out the music on the stage.
Jiang Yan left the bar and searched the nearby area, hearing movement in a small alley not far away.
There were no streetlights around that alley; it was pitch black. Jiang Yan felt her way over and just in time heard a woman’s voice.
“Yin Ziyan, blame your mother for giving birth to you. Instead of being a proper person, she had to be a mistress. How dare you, a bastard daughter, compete with me? What gives you the right?”
Yin Ziyan coughed twice, her voice sounding weak: “My mother met Yin Changfeng first and got pregnant with me. If we’re talking about a mistress, your mother is the real mistress! If she hadn’t used her family’s influence to force that coward Yin Changfeng, my mother wouldn’t have had such a hard life. Your whole family has cornered the market on despicable cowardice and selfishness. You’re truly birds of a feather.”
Her sarcasm thoroughly enraged Yin Zihan. She laughed gloomily twice and said: “Still stubborn even now? I’d like to see if you have the guts to challenge me when your purity is ruined and your reputation is destroyed. Get her!”
The last sentence was directed at the few strong men beside her. Yin Ziyan had been drugged and could barely stand, so she could only watch helplessly as the men approached her.
Jiang Yan’s eyes had adjusted to the dark. She saw Yin Zihan’s vicious expression and the four men surrounding Yin Ziyan.
They looked like professional thugs. She couldn’t handle them alone. She could only hope Gu Tang would find this place quickly.
One man squatted down, touched Yin Ziyan’s face, and let out a perverted sound: “Your little face is so smooth. Your skin must be soft too, right? Don’t worry, big brother will be gentle with you.”
Yin Ziyan didn’t say a word. Finding the right moment, she bit down on his hand, the veins bulging on her face as she bit with all her strength.
The man cried out in pain and used his other hand to pinch Yin Ziyan’s jaw, forcing her to open her mouth.
He glared and slapped Yin Ziyan hard across the face, then tore off her clothes: “Stupid b*tch, you refuse a toast, so you’ll have a penalty!”
Yin Ziyan’s shoulder was half-exposed, which stirred the hunger of the wolves surrounding her.
