- Chapter 55.1 - Let Me Stay by Your Side (1)
The Divine Monarch Jiāng Yān was embracing was Cháo Mù, the most beautiful one on Mount Xūmí.
She was the Peony Flower Goddess. When Jiāng Yān was stripped of one hundred thousand years of cultivation, her body was extremely weak. The Heavenly Palace sent Cháo Mù to care for her, and once she came, she never left.
Jiāng Yān felt very apologetic to her, so she took extra care of her. Unexpectedly, Cháo Mù devoted herself entirely to Mount Xūmí, waiting for ten thousand years.
Although the lifespan of a god is infinite, ten thousand years was truly too much of a waste for a beautiful goddess.
She could have been happily living as the Flower Goddess in the Heavenly Palace. Perhaps many excellent male immortals would have courted her. She could have had several relationships in ten thousand years; at a faster pace, her children would have been all grown up.
Instead, she had wasted her youth on Mount Xūmí. Shouldn’t she be properly consoled?
Fú Níng was still in her snake form. Cháo Mù thought she looked cute and reached out to pet her. Fú Níng immediately flicked her tongue and bared her fangs, startling Cháo Mù into diving into Jiāng Yān’s embrace. She said delicately, “Divine Venerable, your little snake is too fierce.”
Jiāng Yān gave Fú Níng a meaningful look and spoke gently, “Don’t be afraid. She is just an ignorant little thing. I’ll throw her head out.”
Fú Níng: The snake is aggrieved.
Cháo Mù couldn’t bear the thought, so she glanced at Fú Níng again and said, “A snake this small would probably be eaten by the fierce beasts outside if she were thrown out. If Divine Venerable doesn’t wish to keep her, hand her over to me. I’m quite bored, and I can train this fierce little snake.”
Jiāng Yān thought this was a good idea. In any case, Fú Níng couldn’t hurt anyone now. Handing her over to Cháo Mù would allow her to experience “the great love of the world.”
Cháo Mù, this delicate flower, was good in every way, except that she was too innocently sweet. She had an obsession like the Kṣitigarbha Bodhisattva—she would not attain Buddhahood until hell was empty. Even when facing a fallen god riddled with evil, she could persuade them to drop their weapons.
This was one of her passive skills.
Seeing Jiāng Yān hesitate, Fú Níng felt a bad premonition. She quickly crawled over and tugged at her skirt, blinking her eyes repeatedly, restarting her campaign of selling cuteness.
“Divine Monarch Cháo Mù wants to purify your malice. Are you unwilling?”
Fú Níng was more than unwilling; every cell in her body was rejecting the idea. But she just looked at Jiāng Yān with a wronged expression, not saying a word.
Cháo Mù poured a cup of immortal wine for Jiāng Yān and said with a smile, “I see that this snake is very docile in front of you, Divine Venerable. This must be a kind of fate. You should keep her, Divine Venerable. We have everything on the mountain. Keeping a snake is no big deal.”
Upon hearing this, Fú Níng instantly forgave the little Peony who had just been disrespectful to her, and her hostility toward her decreased significantly.
Jiāng Yān sneered inwardly. This innocently sweet Peony was still too young. Did she think this snake was always as obedient as she was now?
She was full of energy in bed; there was no sign of this pitiful look.
Jiāng Yān said nothing, drank the immortal wine, and occasionally played with Cháo Mù’s hair, looking like a total libertine.
Although Mount Xūmí was a bit secluded, there were plenty of handsome men and beautiful women. Just looking at them was refreshing. Staying here for a few more days wouldn’t be a problem, but the issue was when Fú Níng’s blackening value would be completely eliminated.
Although it was called the blackening value, when looked at from another angle, it was actually the favorability rating. The fact that Fú Níng’s blackening value hadn’t reached zero yet meant that her favorability toward her hadn’t been maximized, so what was she unsatisfied with?
Jiāng Yān picked up the snake clinging to her skirt and looked at her red eyes, asking, “Are you dissatisfied with this Divine Venerable?”
I’ve died to save you, and I’ve been tormented for three days! What else could I be unsatisfied with?
Jiāng Yān roared internally, but her expression remained calm as she stared at Fú Níng, waiting for her answer.
Fú Níng didn’t understand why Jiāng Yān would ask this. After all, her heart was entirely dedicated to her now. As long as Jiāng Yān could forgive her, she would do anything.
Dissatisfied? How could that be? Even if Jiāng Yān dug out her snake gallbladder, she wouldn’t dare to harbor any dissatisfaction toward Yān Yān.
Since Cháo Mù was beside them, Fú Níng said nothing, wrapped her tail around Jiāng Yān’s arm, and rubbed her head against her hand.
“I knew it! This snake really likes you, Divine Venerable. You should keep her. Perhaps after absorbing the spiritual qi on the mountain, she will be able to transform into human form soon. I just wonder if she will be beautiful.”
Aside from being innocently sweet, Cháo Mù was also a beauty enthusiast. This was one of the reasons why she had stayed on Mount Xūmí.
Every Divine Monarch on Mount Xūmí possessed exceptional beauty, especially Chán Yuè Divine Venerable. For someone who loved beauty, this was truly a blessed sanctuary. Being a bit secluded was nothing; seeing beautiful people was enough to satisfy her.
She is indeed very beautiful, Jiāng Yān added in her mind.
Fú Níng stared blankly at Jiāng Yān. The woman and the snake stared at each other until Jiāng Yān finally gave in. She still couldn’t bring herself to say anything harsh to a snake.
Forget it. I’ll wait until she recovers her human form.
Fú Níng sensed Jiāng Yān’s helplessness. She rubbed her head against her hand, slid down her arm to her chest, and crawled in through the collar.
Jiāng Yān: “…”
“This snake is quite the hooligan, but she has not yet fully gained sentience, so Divine Venerable need not worry.”
Before Cháo Mù, the clueless bystander, could finish speaking, Jiāng Yān had vanished.
In an instant, the two were in the room. Jiāng Yān pulled Fú Níng out from her chest, holding her in her hand and glaring at her darkly.
Fú Níng was also miserable. During a snake’s mating season, the body is difficult to control, and seeing Yān Yān just made her lose control.
“You have the audacity! Crawling into my clothes in broad daylight! Speak, how do you wish to die?”
Fú Níng struggled twice and slipped out of Jiāng Yān’s hand. Just before she hit the floor, she transformed into her human form.
Jiāng Yān hadn’t been overly awkward before, but seeing her face instantly reminded her of what had happened, and her face flushed all the way down to her neck.
She turned around and said sharply, “Get out! I don’t want to see you!”
How could Fú Níng obey? She was obedient when she was a snake, but as a person, she would absolutely not do as Jiāng Yān said.
She moved closer and hugged Jiāng Yān from behind, her voice filled with deep affection and tenderness. “Yān Yān, don’t drive me away. I can continue to use my original form. As long as you let me stay, I will do anything.”
This attitude was truly humble for her. Jiāng Yān’s heart felt a wrench, and she couldn’t say anything for a moment.
“You knew I was Chán Yuè all along. Why did you say those things to me?”
“I didn’t know at first. I only found out after checking your spiritual vein later.”
Jiāng Yān’s eyes darkened. She slapped her hands away. “So, you initially planned to have me as a stand-in, to stay by your side with Chán Yuè’s face?”
Fú Níng didn’t know how to explain, her voice bitter. “I planned to forget her and be with you, to have you by my side for all eternity.”
Jiāng Yān’s feelings were complex, and she was speechless.
Forgetting Chán Yuè and being with Jiāng Yān. That’s what Fú Níng thought. But now she was Chán Yuè, so which one of her did Fú Níng really like?
Fú Níng saw the conflict in her expression and immediately declared her feelings. “Whether you are Jiāng Yān or Chán Yuè, the one I love is the you right now. The name is not important. You are what matters. No matter what you are called, I only love you. A name is just a code name, isn’t it? Let’s not dwell on this, okay?”
Jiāng Yān felt that what she was saying was skewed logic, but there was a hint of truth to it. This person must have studied philosophy very well; her dialectical thinking was strong.
Seeing her remain silent, Fú Níng felt panicked. She buried her face in Jiāng Yān’s neck and mumbled, “Yān Yān, give me a chance. I will prove to you that everything I said is true.”
Even if Jiāng Yān was angry, she couldn’t direct it at Fú Níng. She could only say faintly, “Let go. Let me think.”
Fú Níng obediently let go, standing in front of Jiāng Yān like a child, with two suspicious blushes on her cheeks and suppressed desire in her eyes.
Jiāng Yān saw this, leaned in for a closer look, and asked doubtfully, “What’s wrong?”
Fú Níng’s sanity was already on the verge of collapse. Being stared at like that caused a total meltdown. In the blink of an eye, she pinned Jiāng Yān onto the bed.
Jiāng Yān: “…” Unbelievable audacity!
She hadn’t even forgiven her yet, and she dared to lay hands on her.
“Let go if you don’t want to die, or I will chop you into pieces and feed you to the dogs right now.”
Fú Níng buried her face in her neck and took a deep breath. Her voice was full of lust. “Yān Yān, I can’t hold back anymore. Just allow me this once.”
Jiāng Yān’s short temper flared. She struggled fiercely, reversing their positions. She looked down at Fú Níng, whose eyes were filled with lust, and curved her lips into a wicked smile.
“Even if I allow you, I should be on top. Do you, a mere flood dragon, really think you can suppress a dragon?”
“So, you agree?”
Fú Níng’s tail wrapped around her, and Jiāng Yān gradually found herself unable to move.
Jiāng Yān: “…”
Why is a proper, purebred dragon like me constantly restrained by a flood dragon? This defies all logic!
Fú Níng leaned in, smiling at the corners of her lips. “I am fifty thousand years younger than you. How could I possibly suppress you?”
Before Jiāng Yān could say anything more, a storm of kisses descended. Their lips and tongues intertwined, quickly causing a lack of oxygen.
Fú Níng was never easily satisfied. Whenever she got a chance, she would take full advantage until Jiāng Yān had no strength left.
The inconvenient truth was that after Jiāng Yān recovered her divine body, her physical condition had improved significantly. She was tormented for five full days before Fú Níng finally stopped.
In the end, Jiāng Yān had only one thought: I must feed Fú Níng to the dogs!
Yáo Jī truly couldn’t stand her Divine Venerable’s constant idleness anymore. She ran away from home with the little fox. As they passed through Qīng Qiū, the little fox seemed to feel some kind of resonance and instantly transformed into a beautiful woman.
Jiǔ Yè Xī hadn’t expected to recover her human form this way. She looked at Yáo Jī, whose eyes were deep, and thanked her with a smile, “Thank you, Divine Monarch Yáo Jī, for your care these past days. I will surely repay you properly when I have the chance.”
Yáo Jī beckoned with her hand. Jiǔ Yè Xī’s body flew uncontrollably toward Yáo Jī and landed in her embrace.
“There’s no need to wait for the future. Right now will do.”
Jiǔ Yè Xī was confused. Yáo Jī flicked her sleeve, and the two tumbled onto a soft, large bed.
“Divine Monarch, what are you doing?” Jiǔ Yè Xī tried hard to maintain her composure, but her voice was still shaking a little.
Although the situation was obvious, she still wanted to struggle a bit. After all, it was their first meeting after she recovered her human form; being this intense was truly inappropriate.
The corner of Yáo Jī’s lip curved up. She encircled her in her arms. “You will know shortly, be a good girl.”
Jiāng Yān was awakened by the noise outside. Her eyes were still adjusting to the sunlight. As soon as she opened them, tears streamed down.
Cháo Mù pushed the door open, saw Jiāng Yān covered in bruises and crying alone, and was instantly enraged. She grabbed her whip and stormed out.
“Where did this evil spirit come from, daring to blaspheme a god? Today, I will send you to Kūnlún for the Queen Mother to refine you into medicine!”
Her whip cracked loudly, and her face was full of fury. Fú Níng’s expression was calm; she completely disregarded Cháo Mù. She was more worried about whether Yān Yān would be angry.
Cháo Mù became even angrier at the sight. She swung her whip at Fú Níng. Fú Níng raised her hand to block and easily caught it.
Cháo Mù didn’t dare to be careless. She struggled to pull the whip back and then swung another strike at Fú Níng. This time, Fú Níng did not fight back, taking the strike directly. The skin on her left arm was ripped open.
Jiāng Yān saw this scene, her eyes darkening. She said to Cháo Mù, “You go down first. I will deal with this myself.”
Cháo Mù nodded, retrieved her whip, and glanced at Fú Níng as she left, catching the flash of triumph in her eyes.
Even the simple Cháo Mù understood. This suddenly appearing demon was doing it on purpose.
After Cháo Mù left, Jiāng Yān looked at Fú Níng and said coldly, “Come in.”
Fú Níng obediently walked in, deliberately covering her bleeding arm.
Jiāng Yān spared her a glance, said nothing, and closed the door with a flick of her sleeve.
“Speak. How do you wish to die?”
Fú Níng immediately admitted her mistake, her attitude genuinely sincere.
“I’m sorry, Yān Yān. I didn’t mean to. My beast body is difficult to control. It won’t happen again.”
Her words reminded Jiāng Yān, and the events of the past few days were instantly connected.
No wonder she was influenced by Fú Níng to transform into her original form. So that’s why.
However, that wasn’t an excuse for her hooligan behavior. Punishment was still necessary, or she would never learn her lesson.
“Do you think I will forgive you just because you say that?”
“Then what will it take for you to forgive me?” Fú Níng’s voice softened, and her expression was serious.
Jiāng Yān smiled faintly and said, “I’m going to Mount Kūnlún in a couple of days. You will come with me.”
Fú Níng pursed her lips, pondered for a few seconds, as if making a huge decision, and said, “Alright. I’ll go with you.”
“And you can take a bath in the Jade Pool while we’re at it.”
Jiāng Yān spoke casually, but she was actually paying close attention to Fú Níng’s expression. She clearly saw her face turn pale.
The Jade Pool was the sacred realm of Mount Kūnlún. Only those who were being consecrated as Divine Venerables could enter. To prove their unwavering resolve and immunity to external temptation, they would typically bathe in the Jade Pool water.
Simply put, it was to cleanse impurities and eliminate evil. Given that Fú Níng was currently a demon, entering the pool would be a near-death experience.
If she was lucky, she would emerge completely purified of her demonic qi. If she was unlucky, she would instantly perish, leaving no bones behind.
Fú Níng wasn’t afraid of losing all her cultivation and becoming an ordinary person. She was afraid of not being able to come out. She stubbornly wanted to stay by Yān Yān’s side and be with her for all eternity.
If I die, will Yān Yān be sad?
Thinking of this, she looked at Jiāng Yān with uncertainty, finding her completely indifferent, as if she didn’t care about her at all.
“If you want me to go, I’ll go.”
Jiāng Yān was nonchalant. “Of course, I want you to go. You, a demon, are staying on my Mount Xūmí. How would people look at me if word got out? Even if I don’t think for myself, I must consider the many immortals on my mountain. They don’t want to associate with a demon.”
Fú Níng let go of her injured arm, letting her blood drip onto the ground. “So, you care more about them, right? As for whether I live or die, you don’t care at all.”
Jiāng Yān felt a little guilty seeing her wounded gaze. That’s not entirely true. Cleansing her demonic qi was a good thing for Fú Níng. Otherwise, she wouldn’t be able to maintain her human form on Mount Xūmí for long and would have to remain a little snake.
“Are you going or not? Just one word. Don’t ask all these meaningless questions. I’m too lazy to answer you.”
Mainly, Jiāng Yān didn’t want to show that she cared about her, lest she take advantage of it.
“I’ll go. I will go. As long as I can stay by your side, I’ll even dig out my heart if you ask.”
Jiāng Yān pouted and whispered, “What use is your heart to me? It’s utterly useless.”
Yáo Jī stayed in Qīng Qiū for three days. Upon learning that Jiāng Yān was going to Kūnlún, she reluctantly bid farewell to Jiǔ Yè Xī.
“Little one, I’m leaving now. Aren’t you going to say anything to me?”
Jiǔ Yè Xī glared at her, pulled the blanket up, and said hoarsely, “Hurry up and go. Don’t come back.”
She had been thoroughly exhausted by this woman with a human face and a beast’s heart these past few days. All she wanted was a good sleep.
Yáo Jī gave her a lovely smile, leaned down, and kissed her on the forehead. She said softly, “There will surely be a lot of delicious immortal wine and spiritual fruits at Kūnlún this time. The peaches of immortality are ripe, too. I wonder how many Divine Monarchs the Divine Venerable will bring.”
Jiǔ Yè Xī’s heart pounded wildly, but she couldn’t bring herself to ask Yáo Jī. She quietly tugged at her sleeve, staring at her unblinkingly.
A flash of cunning passed through Yáo Jī’s eyes. She gently pulled her hand away, adjusted her clothes, and stood up. “The spots are limited, and I can’t do anything about it. But if I bring a little fox, the Divine Venerable shouldn’t mind.”
As soon as she finished speaking, the white fox jumped into her arms and rubbed her neck in a fawning manner.
Yáo Jī left with the fox, her mood extremely pleasant.
The little fox entrapment plan was successful!
Jiāng Yān’s purpose this time was to cleanse Fú Níng’s demonic qi, so she didn’t bring many people—only Yáo Jī and Cháo Mù accompanied her, along with one snake and one fox.
Outside Mount Kūnlún, Wū Què and Shū Bái came to greet Jiāng Yān. The phoenix birds danced, and beast roars echoed in the valley.
Jiāng Yān accepted their courtesy and led Yáo Jī and Cháo Mù inside. Yáng Huí was waiting for her in the main hall. She smiled and beckoned to her when she saw her arrive. Jiāng Yān obediently walked to her side.
Yáng Huí glanced at her sleeve, and her eyes showed understanding. Jiāng Yān knew she couldn’t hide it and said to her, “Divine Venerable, aside from coming to express my gratitude this time, I also have a request.”
Yáng Huí pointed toward the back and said, “No problem. You can use the Jade Pool as you wish. However, do you truly want to do this? Actually, I think she’s fine as she is now. With you controlling her, there’s no fear of her causing trouble outside.”
Jiāng Yān also understood this point, but when facing a palm-sized little snake, she always couldn’t bring herself to be ruthless, which allowed Fú Níng to take advantage of her again and again.
Once she can maintain her human form, it won’t be like this, right?
“I’ve already decided. Divine Venerable doesn’t need to persuade me.”
