- Chapter 53.2.1 - Merely a Stand-in (2)
“…it is for you, Divine Venerable.”
Jiāng Yān did not understand and waited for her explanation.
“That Demonic Crystal Stone is originally Fú Níng’s inner core. When she betrayed the Divine Realm back then, you, Divine Venerable, personally removed it and entrusted it to the Queen Mother of the West at Kūnlún for safekeeping. This time, her act of stealing the crystal stone is an attempt to make you, like her, fall from godhood and become a demon.”
Jiāng Yān felt that something was amiss. Did Fú Níng really need to go to such lengths just to make her a demon?
“Why must she use the crystal stone?”
“Because you, Divine Venerable, possess a divine body; ordinary methods are ineffective against you.”
“Yáo Jī, why don’t you tell her the truth? What Fú Níng truly desires is a Chán Yuè who possesses her past memories, not Jiāng Yān.”
Mèi Lí entered, carrying the unconscious Chī Jié. He glanced at Jiāng Yān and then walked directly into a room.
However, Jiāng Yān was overcome with profound sadness because of his words, and she felt as if she had fallen into an ice cave.
Fú Níng wanted the original person to return and did not want her, the stand-in, to continue occupying this face.
Seeing her state, Yáo Jī quickly explained, “Divine Venerable, do not listen to that bird’s nonsense. You and Chán Yuè are fundamentally the same person; there is no separation between you.”
Jiāng Yān forced a smile that looked worse than crying. She said, “Immortal, I would like to be alone for a while.”
Yáo Jī tactfully departed, taking the fox with her.
Jiāng Yān sat there in a daze until midnight. It was only when the little fox came and pawed at her leg that she realized it had been dark for a long time.
Chán Yuè, Jiāng Yān.
She was not Chán Yuè; she was Jiāng Yān.
Whether through reincarnation or as a stand-in, she did not want to be Chán Yuè’s shadow.
She only wanted to be Jiāng Yān, an independent being, and leave once her mission was complete.
What did their love, hate, and enmity have to do with her? Why torment a good-for-nothing who couldn’t even break through the Qi Refining stage on her own?
It was the first time Jiǔ Yè Xī had seen Jiāng Yān cry. She was at a complete loss, instantly getting up in fear.
What should I do? If I were still in human form, I could hold and comfort Jiāng Yān, but I can’t reach her like this.
Jiāng Yān vented her emotions, picked up the little fox, and walked back into the room. She decided that no matter what Fú Níng wanted to do, as long as she didn’t go out, Fú Níng could forget about finding her.
Fú Níng obtained the Demonic Crystal Stone after a near-fatal ordeal, only to return and find the Jiǔ Yīn Cult gone. Her Junior Brother and Jiāng Yān were nowhere to be found; all that remained was a critically injured Yàn Yì, lying in the courtyard, barely breathing.
She transferred a stream of spiritual power to him and asked for the whereabouts of Chī Jié and Jiāng Yān.
Yàn Yì only recognized Mèi Lí and spoke his name.
Fú Níng immediately cast him aside, flew toward Mount Xūmí with her sword, her eyes glazed with frost, and fire blazing on the blade.
