When A Commoner Carries The Child Of A Stranger Alpha - Chapter 2
Shen Buqi didn’t want to further provoke the alpha’s fragile nerves. He passed the time in silence, only showing a hint of hesitation when it was time to sleep.
His bed wasn’t large or rather, it couldn’t even really be called a bed. It was just several layers of thin cloth spread haphazardly on the floor.
Usually, he was used to sleeping there alone, but now, seeing that injured and overly beautiful alpha lying on it, he realized how inappropriate it was.
How could he let his fragile alpha lie on such a hard surface?
But the acid rain had started falling outside again. Shen Buqi set down the quiet mecha in his arms and turned to look at the alpha still lying on that pile of rags.
Perhaps his injuries were severe, the alpha still only offered him his back, curled up there in sleep.
When Shen Buqi had carried the alpha back, he could feel that the man was heavily injured. Yet, for some reason, the external wounds seemed to be healing incredibly fast, though he could still vaguely feel several displaced bones.
“Boom!” A brilliant streak of light cut across the sky, followed by a loud clap of thunder. Ionized particles traced connected patterns against the black night shroud.
Shen Buqi inexplicably thought of Mimi, it seemed Mimi had fallen before him on a rainy day just like this.
The alpha was the same.
However, Mimi’s vitality had been tenacious, completely unlike this beautiful, refined alpha.
He was like the single rose in his boss’s house, blooming in solitude, petals raised high even in extreme pain during wind and rain, yet possessing a stem that couldn’t withstand the slightest snap.
The thorns appeared formidable, but he was defenseless against the storm.
Clearly, a rose required pampering.
Shen Buqi hesitated no longer. He threw on a new specialized protective suit and stepped out into the night, where the sky was as bright as day and the world was filled with wind and torrential rain to buy medicine and food for his “rose.”
The moment he left, the rickety door didn’t even need to be closed, it shut with a “bang” on its own.
Hearing the sound, Ji Weishi irritably propped himself up on the rags.
Shen Buqi’s intuition hadn’t been wrong, his bones had been displaced in several spots this afternoon. But that was this afternoon.
An S-class Alpha is known as the world’s final gift to humanity.
Their evolution defies logic. Their physical fitness is strong enough to take on mutated species single-handedly, and their recovery rate is so extreme that even if they stopped breathing and lay in a grave for two days, they could come back to life.
Such creatures are an asset, but also a threat.
Fortunately, their numbers are extremely few, reproduction is difficult, and their genes cannot be copied or cloned.
They are the ultimate elite.
Currently, in the Human Alliance registry, there are only three S-class Alphas: Qin Che, the Protector of District 1. Wen Jiayu, the Protector of District 3 and Ji Weishi, the Protector of District 4.
He had been ambushed by the combined efforts of the Protectors from Districts 2, 3, and 5, which was why he ended up heavily injured in District 7.
He was lucky, it had been raining contaminated rain the entire day he spent lying in District 7. Combined with the arrival of the E+ toxic gas, people had no time to be out and about.
Otherwise, in District 7, it wouldn’t matter if you were an S-class Alpha, if you were injured, you died.
Ji Weishi had actually been awake for a while. An S-class Alpha’s body activates an automatic protection mechanism; after heavy blood loss, he had entered a forced dormant state. He woke up once his injuries were mostly repaired.
The moment he opened his eyes, he met those deep, bottomless black eyes that showed no emotion.
The irritability in his heart intensified. He could feel that this person held no malice toward him, but it certainly wasn’t kindness either.
It felt as though he was being treated like a dog or some other pet.
He loathed that feeling.
As Ji Weishi thought this, his blood began to boil again. A rich scent of gardenia suddenly permeated the dilapidated shack.
He pressed his hand against the gland at the back of his neck to barely suppress it.
This was the real reason Ji Weishi hadn’t left immediately after his bones mended:
His rut had arrived.
Unlike the rut of an ordinary alpha, an S-class Alpha’s rut is their only weakness. It is like a phoenix’s nirvana or an eagle’s molting, their bodies intermittently reshape their skeletal structure during the rut. It happens once every ten years and lasts for ten days.
The rut was partly responsible for how quickly his bone injuries had healed.
Scanning the nearly empty room, the irritation between Ji Weishi’s brows became harder to restrain. If he didn’t want to cause further trouble, this would be where he’d have to live for the next ten days.
As for the beta from earlier, the only reason Ji Weishi hadn’t killed him upon waking was because his bones were still reshaping. If there was no immediate threat, he preferred to act when his condition was stable.
For example, now.
The rickety wooden door opened again. The wind was fierce, the rain heavy, and the sky dark, save for the lingering light of the meteor which cast a glow on the man behind the door.
He was tall and exceptionally thin. Taking off his hood, his soft black hair clung to his forehead. The light in his eyes ignited the moment they landed on Ji Weishi.
“You can sit up now?”
His voice was filled with joy, which didn’t quite match his cold, indifferent face.
Ji Weishi lowered his gaze, his eyes sweeping over the clean but ugly pile of cloth on the floor. He was like a stalking beast, waiting for the prey to get close enough to strike.
Shen Buqi was oblivious to the danger. He took off his protective suit, carrying the medicine he had just bought, and walked straight toward Ji Weishi.
Ten steps, five steps, three steps… one step.
Now. Just as Ji Weishi was about to reach out and snap that fragile neck, he suddenly caught a faint scent.
The boiling blood in his body instantly stilled.
He paused slightly, raising an eyebrow in confusion, and his hand naturally stopped in mid-air.
Shen Buqi had intended to crouch down to check his bones. Feeling something was off, he immediately turned his head.
It wasn’t that he thought the alpha could hurt him; he was just afraid his movements might scare the alpha.
Seeing the hand near him, he smiled gently. He remembered Mimi was like this too, always hissing at him at first, only to awkwardly come and rub against his hand after lying there for two days.
He tried to catch that wrist, his movements as gentle as those he used with Mimi.
Sure enough, the alpha didn’t resist this time. Of course, he wasn’t exactly submissive either.
Holding that wrist, Shen Buqi felt his whole body tingle with excitement.
His alpha was truly wonderful. Even his wrist felt warm.
But first, business. While the alpha wasn’t resisting him, Shen Buqi carefully felt several bone locations according to the doctor’s instructions.
Strange, they’re all fine.
Had he sensed it wrong this afternoon? Perhaps it was just because he was carrying the alpha that the bones felt different than usual?
Shen Buqi found a logical excuse, but the medicine was now useless.
Even though the alpha was “fragile,” he would never let his alpha get hurt again.
However, the food would still be useful. He pulled out a large bag of various snacks in colorful packaging and presented them to the alpha like a treasure.
“The central market is closed now. I ran to the black market just now. See if you like any of these. If you do, I’ll go buy more. And clothes, see if you like them…”
That said, he spoke with a bit of embarrassment:
“Just now, I went to buy a bed too, but… they were all too big. They won’t fit here. Don’t worry, we’ll move in a few days. I bought a folding mattress, you can make do with that after I set it up.”
He finally asked, as if casually:
“Oh right, my name is Shen Buqi. You can call me Xiao Yi, that’s my nickname. I don’t know your name yet. Or, do you need me to give you a name?”
Just like Abao or Mimi, he was very good at picking names.
Ji Weishi was still immersed in that faint scent, trying to figure out what it was.
Was the person in front of him an omega? He had heard that an ordinary alpha’s rut could be soothed by an omega. Could his injuries have caused him to “down-rank”?
Regardless, it seemed he would need this person of unknown gender during these ten days of his rut.
Thus, Ji Weishi regained his composure and smiled slightly, adding a calculated touch of fragility:
“Ji Weishi. You can call me A-Shi.”
