What to Do If the White Moonlight Omega Falls in Love with Me - Chapter 6
By the time Yan Qingran and the others arrived at the cafeteria, it was already 7 p.m. Most of the food on the first floor had been sold out, so they unanimously decided to head to the second floor.
Compared to the fully occupied seats on the first floor, the second floor was slightly more spacious, with more comfortable lighting.
Everyone scattered to find food. The air was filled with the aroma of meals and the sizzling sound of barbecue.
Cha Yuxuan followed closely behind Yan Qingran. “What did you order?”
Yan Qingran had already swiped her card and was standing in front of the counter, explaining, “Luzhu Huoshao, a local dish in Jingcheng. The main ingredients are pork head meat and pork offal. If you can eat these, you should give it a try, it’s delicious.”
Offal… Cha Yuxuan hesitated. She didn’t like eating animal organs.
“Does it have that gamey smell of offal?”
Yan Qingran leaned against the nearby retractable barrier post. “No, it’s cleaned very thoroughly. If you didn’t know it was offal beforehand, you wouldn’t be able to tell.”
Cha Yuxuan was half-convinced, turning in place and staring at her toes thoughtfully. “Really?”
“Mm-hmm.”
Yan Qingran curved her lips into a smile. “If you don’t like it, I’ll treat you to something else later.”
Just then, someone came to pick up a large bowl of Luzhu Huoshao. Cha Yuxuan watched as the rich aroma of the stewed meat and spices wafted toward her in hook-like wisps.
The soy-colored broth looked mouthwatering, and the bowl was generously filled with meat.
After a long internal debate, she decided to give it a try. “Then I’ll have this too.”
Yan Qingran pointed to a row of tables not far away. “Let’s go sit over there for a while.”
There were eight seats more than enough for the five of them.
“Okay.”
The other three roommates were still browsing the counters, unsure of what to order. Cha Yuxuan sat across from Yan Qingran, stretching her legs and lounging diagonally in her seat.
Noticing Yan Qingran’s elegant posture, she immediately straightened up, pulling her wild sitting style into a more proper one back straight and toes together.
Yan Qingran’s posture wasn’t exactly elegant, but it gave off the aura of a refined young lady.
She leaned lazily against the back of the chair, brushed the stray hairs away from her forehead, unbuttoned her collar, and tugged her collar slightly askew, revealing a sharp, angular collarbone.
Her hair was long, straight, and black, with no bangs.
She stood out starkly against the cafeteria backdrop plastered with pictures of food.
Cha Yuxuan took in every one of her movements, and a few thoughts suddenly popped into her head. “Senior, do you know what your outfit reminds me of?”
She couldn’t help but let a smile curl at the corners of her mouth, though she tried to suppress it. Still, the amusement in her eyes was unmistakable.
Yan Qingran brushed her hair back again, her throat moving slightly. “What does it remind you of?”
An old scholar? She guessed…
“An insurance salesperson.”
Cha Yuxuan couldn’t hold back her laughter, covering her mouth with her hand. It actually reminded her more of a certain type of service industry worker she didn’t dare say it out loud like a “host.”
Especially when she loosened her collar, paired with her strikingly attractive face, it gave off an intensely seductive vibe.
Yan Qingran looked up at her, not quite getting the joke. “An insurance salesperson?”
Cha Yuxuan suppressed her smile. “Yeah, like dressing very formally buttoned all the way up, hair slicked with gel, shoes polished to a shine, everything meticulous. It gives the impression you might whip out an insurance contract at any moment.”
And absolutely the top performer at an insurance company, the kind who earns commissions so effortlessly it’s almost unfair.
Yan Qingran glanced at her own shirt and black trousers. There was a resemblance, but not entirely. She chuckled, “It does seem a bit like that. If I can’t find a job in the future, I could always sell insurance. Versatility, I suppose.”
Cha Yuxuan: “Hahaha.”
Absolutely unnecessary, a top architecture student from Q University selling insurance? The thought was downright hilarious.
Yan Qingran heard their number called at the counter. She stood up and glanced over. “Let’s go, our order’s ready.”
“Mm.”
Cha Yuxuan instinctively pushed her chair back, but the cafeteria’s plastic chair was too light. It wobbled, and in her panic, her center of gravity tilted backward. She started toppling over entirely. “Hel—help…”
Yan Qingran turned just in time to see Cha Yuxuan about to hit the floor. She quickly leaned down, grabbed her flailing wrist, braced against the table for leverage, and yanked her upright in one swift motion.
Cha Yuxuan wore a stunned expression, swallowing hard as she tried to calm her racing heart.
Yan Qingran released her hand. “You okay?”
“How did you react so fast?”
Cha Yuxuan had already braced for impact, but Yan Qingran moved with blurring speed, pulling her up so forcefully it felt like her wrist might shatter.
“Hm?” Yan Qingran furrowed her brows slightly. “During differentiation, my body was enhanced.”
Did she not know about this? Or was her level too low to experience it?
“That’s amazing!” Cha Yuxuan was utterly astonished, her gaze fixed on Yan Qingran’s hand, unable to look away.
Yan Qingran followed her line of sight downward, her ears turning red as she quickly hid her hand behind her back.
How could she stare so blatantly at a female alpha’s hand? Didn’t she know what that implied?
So embarrassing.
Yan Qingran suddenly felt she couldn’t stay any longer with this naive little alpha.
Cha Yuxuan rubbed her wrist. “You’re really strong.”
Yan Qingran pressed her lips together, her eyes briefly scanning Cha Yuxuan’s hand. “Be more careful next time.”
“Okay.”
Cha Yuxuan cautiously moved her chair aside, skirted the table, and stepped into the aisle, naturally falling two steps behind Yan Qingran.
“Senior!” She gently tugged at the hem of Yan Qingran’s shirt. “Can I ask what level alpha you are?”
Yan Qingran visibly froze. Why would she ask that?
An alpha’s level correlates directly with certain capabilities. It’s a private matter, not something shared with outsiders.
Could she really be an A/A romance enthusiast? And interested in me?
Considering Cha Yuxuan’s series of odd behaviors over the past few days, Yan Qingran thought this possibility seemed quite high.
Cha Yuxuan, of course, had no idea that alpha levels were considered intimate. She’d been to the hospital before for testing and learned there was an 80% chance she’d differentiate into an alpha, but her level remained uncertain. She just wanted to know what level an alpha needed to be as impressive as Yan Qingran.
Jiang Xiaoping, unaware of what had just happened, bounced over cheerfully. “Senior, what dishes did you all order?”
Yan Qingran quickly replied, “Lu Zhu Huo Shao,” trying to steer the conversation away so Cha Yuxuan would drop the previous topic.
“Wow, that’s super delicious.” Jiang Xiaoping glanced at Cha Yuxuan. “Did you order it too?”
Cha Yuxuan smiled. “Yes, I followed senior’s lead. It’s ready now, let’s go pick it up.”
Jiang Xiaoping nodded. “Okay. I’ll go grab some seats for us then.”
Yan Qingran nervously pinched her knuckles, her gaze drifting as she suddenly felt uneasy.
If this were a date with someone pursuing her, the meal wouldn’t just be a simple senior treating a junior anymore. And she had just acted so warmly earlier almost as if she were reciprocating interest.
This was troublesome.
“Um…” Yan Qingran slowed her steps, falling behind Cha Yuxuan. She called out to her, “Cha Yuxuan.”
Cha Yuxuan turned around, carefully holding a tray of food, her expression slightly confused as if she had completely forgotten what she had asked earlier. “What is it?”
Yan Qingran swallowed the words she was about to say and casually remarked, “Nothing, just be careful not to burn yourself.”
As soon as she said it, she realized how odd it sounded she was actually showing concern for someone who might be pursuing her. How absurd.
Oh wait, maybe she wasn’t being pursued after all. Yan Qingran tried to comfort herself, hoping that was the case.
The two picked up their food and walked back side by side.
As they walked, Cha Yuxuan turned to her again and asked, “Senior, I’m guessing you’re an S-rank alpha, right?”
How did she know?
Yan Qingran glanced at her sharply, pursed her lips, and felt a mix of emotions.
Seeing that she didn’t respond, Cha Yuxuan inferred, “I guessed correctly?!” Her tone was delighted, as if she had stumbled upon a treasure.
S-rank alphas were indeed rare, so it wasn’t wrong to say she had found a gem.
“Mm,” Yan Qingran replied calmly, adding, “Keep it confidential.”
Cha Yuxuan’s steps were practically buoyant with joy. Being friends with a top-tier alpha was certainly something to be happy about.
If only she could become a high-ranking alpha after her own differentiation.
For now, Yan Qingran assumed Cha Yuxuan was happy about her high rank, not because she had found a desirable romantic target.
But being this thrilled about someone’s high rank, especially for a friend she had only known for two days, felt a bit far-fetched.
Suddenly, Yan Qingran wasn’t sure how to treat Cha Yuxuan anymore. Should she act the same as before?
Back at the table, the two sat facing each other. Yan Qingran kept her head down, meticulously arranging her bowl and chopsticks, not daring to look up at Cha Yuxuan.
The other three had already ordered their dishes, but they weren’t ready yet, so they were all waiting and scrolling through their phones.
“Wow, senior, your food looks so fragrant,” Yan Na leaned over to take a look. The dish consisted of pork tripe, intestines, and head meat, chopped into small pieces and stewed in a secret braising liquid to a rich earthy brown, garnished with a sprinkle of cilantro for a fresh touch.
Yan Qingran picked up a piece of tripe to show them. “This is really delicious. You should try it sometime, but make sure to come during off-peak hours either earlier or later. Otherwise, you’ll have to wait forever to get a seat.”
“Mm-hmm,” Yan Na nodded eagerly like a little chick pecking at rice.
Cha Yuxuan gazed at the steaming dish in her bowl, studying it intently for a moment before picking up her chopsticks to lift a piece of braised pork head meat. She slowly brought it to her mouth and chewed a couple of times.
The meat was tender and succulent, rich in flavor, perfectly stewed until it fell apart, and soaked in a fragrant broth that left a lingering aftertaste.
Hmm, it actually tasted pretty good, she thought, blinking in mild surprise.
Yan Qingran chatted with them while eating, taking her time with each bite. “What did you all order?”
Bai Hang: “Spicy hot pot.”
Yan Na: “Scallion oil noodles.”
Jiang Xiaoping: “Bibimbap in a stone pot and a small serving of fried potatoes. I wanted to try Yingcheng’s local dishes.”
“Mm, I’ve had all of those they’re all quite tasty.” Yan Qingran nodded in approval.
Cha Yuxuan glanced at Yan Qingran, then picked up a piece of pork intestine with her chopsticks, hesitating and too nervous to put it in her mouth.
Unfortunately, Yan Qingran didn’t look her way.
Silently, she muttered to herself, “God bless me,” then swallowed the pork intestine. It was so tender it hardly needed chewing, and it lacked the unpleasant taste she remembered. Overall, it was excellent.
This was the third time.
Cha Yuxuan had only eaten one piece of meat but had glanced at her three times.
Yan Qingran was actually aware of Cha Yuxuan’s glances she could feel them but she pretended not to notice.
Bai Hang, sitting next to Cha Yuxuan, noticed her enjoying the food and nudged her arm. “Is it good?”
“Delicious. Nice, top-tier, highly recommended.”
Cha Yuxuan gave a thumbs-up, then picked up another piece of meat with her chopsticks and held it out toward Bai Hang’s mouth. “Want to try it?”
The rich aroma wafted over, and the meat on the chopsticks still steamed slightly, dripping with juices it looked incredibly appetizing.
Bai Hang stared at the meat, waiting to be fed.
Yan Qingran couldn’t help but look up. Was this, the legendary “seemingly straight but actually flirty” act?
Just as the chopsticks CCha Yuxuan had bitten were about to reach Bai Hang’s mouth, Yan Qingran quietly lowered her head, pretending not to see, and focused on her meal.
None of my business.
But she couldn’t resist looking up again.
As Yan Qingran’s eyes wandered, she caught sight of the order number tag in Bai Hang’s hand and curved her lips into a slight smile. “Hey, Bai Hang, I think your number’s been called.”
As soon as she said it, she shifted her feet uncomfortably.
The announcement from the spicy hot pot window repeated, “Number 18, your order is ready! Number 18, please come and pick up your order!”
“Oh, seems like it is.”
Bai Hang stood up to check, then gently pushed Cha Yuxuan’s chopsticks away. “You go ahead and eat. Next time, I’ll order a portion for myself and eat my fill.”
Cha Yuxuan put the piece of meat into her own mouth. “Alright, you have to try it next time, it’s super delicious.”
Bai Hang patted Cha Yuxuan’s shoulder. “Okay, okay, I’m going to get my food now.”
