What to Do If the White Moonlight Omega Falls in Love with Me - Chapter 29
In the world of adults, summer BBQs are never complete without ice-cold beer.
Yan Qingran did not drink often, but she felt her tolerance should be quite good. Once at home, she had accidentally drank her grandfather’s high-proof liquor thinking it was water, and she seemed perfectly fine afterward.
Cha Yuxuan had only drunk once before—that night at the bar. It was her first time, and it proved that her tolerance was poor; two mixed cocktails had been enough to make her tipsy.
As a youth of the new era, Xue Jiu never pressured anyone to drink. “Just have a little; drink within your limits.”
Cha Yuxuan took the initiative to raise her glass, extending her arm into the center of the air. “Alright, cheers!”
The other seven raised their glasses as well. As the rims clinked, bubbles rose in the cold beer and the ice cubes rattled. “Cheers! Happy Birthday!”
Cha Yuxuan pulled her arm back and took a large gulp. To be honest, the taste of this beer really wasn’t great. Setting down the glass, she wiped the foam from the corner of her mouth and looked around with a smile. “Thank you.”
Xue Jiu checked the time and suggested, “Should I go get the cake? Your school must have a curfew, right? Let’s finish up early so I can send you back.”
Cha Yuxuan nodded. “True, but I’ve applied for a leave, so I’m not in a rush to head back.”
Xue Jiu nodded and went inside to retrieve the cake Xue Lanlan had brought home. It was a two-tier fruit cake, more than enough for eight people.
Everyone cleared the table to make space. They took the birthday hats from the accessory bag, and Bo Hang, being quick-witted, immediately handed the small crown to Yan Qingran. “Come on, Senior, you put the little crown on her.”
“Yes, exactly,” Yan Na chimed in while inserting the candles.
Yan Qingran took the small paper crown and gently placed it on top of Cha Yuxuan’s head. Holding the straps on both sides, she measured it against her head and fixed it at a comfortable size. “Is this okay?”
Cha Yuxuan raised her hand and accidentally knocked the crown crooked. Yan Qingran reached out to straighten it, smoothing a stray lock of hair away from her forehead in the process.
As those slightly warm fingertips brushed against her temple, Cha Yuxuan’s eyelid flickered. An indescribable surge of joy rushed from her heart. “It’s perfect. Thank you, Senior.”
“Mm.” Yan Qingran snapped out of it and took a small step back, withdrawing from the close contact.
Yan Na and the others had already lit the candles. Yun Qi was fiddling with a small toy that came with the cake; she must have hit a switch, because it suddenly split open to reveal a candle in the center and began playing the “Happy Birthday” song.
Xue Jiu quickly caught the rhythm and began to sing, and everyone followed along, clapping to the beat. Cha Yuxuan closed her eyes and pressed her palms together toward the cake.
I hope my whole family stays safe and healthy, and I hope that in this new year of my life, I can be with the person I am truly compatible with.
After making her wish, she took a deep breath and blew out all the candles in one go. The group immediately cheered, “Happy Eighteenth!”
She’s an adult now, Yan Qingran thought with a quiet sigh. In a voice only she could hear, she murmured, “Congratulations.”
Congratulations to her, and congratulations to herself.
Cha Yuxuan picked up the cake knife and sliced the first tier into eight pieces. She lifted the first slice onto a plate, placed a fork on it, and handed it to Xue Jiu. “Bro, you eat first.”
Xue Jiu accepted it happily, praising her, “My little sister really knows her manners.”
Cha Yuxuan shot him a look. “If you finish first, you can help me with the chores.”
Xue Jiu mumbled through a mouthful of cake, “Do I ever do ‘little’ chores for you? It’s always me doing everything anyway.”
Cha Yuxuan didn’t argue. she plated the second slice and naturally handed it to Yan Qingran. The expressions of the onlookers turned subtle. There was a saying: the order in which a birthday girl distributes her cake represents the level of importance those people hold in her heart.
After handing out the cake, she asked Xue Jiu to get some disposable containers. She wanted to save a portion for their mother and some for friends who couldn’t make it but had sent gifts.
Yan Qingran used a fork to pick up a piece of kiwi with a tiny bit of cream on it. As she tasted it carefully, she reached a conclusion: this cream was very sweet.
There was no helping it then. While Cha Yuxuan was busy packing the cake, Yan Qingran ate slowly, consuming only the fruit on top. She didn’t touch a single bite of the cake base or the cream.
As Su Meng ate, she noticed Cha Yuxuan was packing all the remaining cake. “Did you forget to save a piece for yourself?”
Cha Yuxuan shook her head. “I didn’t forget. I have mine right here, with the Senior.”
Su Meng followed her gaze toward Yan Qingran. She looked around but didn’t see a second slice anywhere. The piece in Yan Qingran’s hand was clearly the one she had been eating.
Realizing this, Su Meng’s expression became complicated, though it was hard to tell if it was envy or something else.
Seeing the subtle looks on everyone’s faces, Cha Yuxuan explained, “I forgot to mention, the Senior doesn’t like things too sweet, so she only ate some fruit. The rest is for me.”
Yan Qingran froze in place. But you didn’t tell me that in advance!
She hadn’t been careful while eating, which meant this piece of cake was now touched by her… various secretions.
After a moment of thought, she tried to hide the cake behind her back. “I accidentally made it messy just now. Why don’t you open one of the packed boxes?”
Cha Yuxuan gazed at her with a beaming smile. “It’s fine. Just push the messy part aside. I’ve counted the portions for the boxes; we can’t be missing even one.”
Yan Qingran felt a pang of guilt for lying. She brought the cake back out, brushed off a bit of cream, and handed it over. “Here.”
Then, under the direct and indirect gazes of the group, Cha Yuxuan picked up a fresh fork, took a small bite, and her large eyes lit up. “It’s delicious!”
She took several more bites, full of praise. Everyone else was infected by her mood and felt the cake was indeed wonderful, prompted to eat a bit more themselves.
As they ate, it was inevitable for some cream to get on their lips. Yan Qingran watched as Cha Yuxuan used the tip of her tongue to lick the cream off her own lips. Her face felt hot. This counted as… a kiss in a broad sense, didn’t it?
The next time Yan Qingran saw Cha Yuxuan after the birthday party was when the Student Union was preparing to recruit freshmen. Although the Publicity Department was responsible for the specifics, as the President, she still had to act as an interviewer to oversee the process.
“Have you heard? The Student Union interviewer is the acknowledged Alpha goddess of our college. She’s gorgeous!”
On Tuesday afternoon, September 7th, Cha Yuxuan was walking out of her History of Ancient Foreign Architecture class when she heard two passersby discussing Yan Qingran. She immediately slowed her pace.
“I’ve known that for ages. It’s Yan Qingran, right? She’s the President this year, so of course people are going to check it out.”
“Why didn’t you tell me? What does she look like? Any photos? People praise her like she’s some kind of immortal…”
The two walked away quickly, but a small smile played on Cha Yuxuan’s lips. So, the Senior was the lead interviewer for tonight’s session. No wonder she had said before that Cha Yuxuan would definitely pass.
She went to the cafeteria for dinner and headed straight back to her dorm, skipping the library for once. At this hour, only she and the other difficult roommate, Deng Yingting, were in the room. Cha Yuxuan gave a greeting, took a shower, and washed her hair.
She picked out a youthful, lively outfit and dried her hair. She instinctively reached for her perfume but immediately set the small glass bottle down. Instead, she picked up a brand-new lip glaze from her drawer and applied it in front of the mirror. Her lips instantly took on a moist, strawberry-red glow.
She looked at her reflection and smiled.
Deng Yingting, seeing her deliberate grooming, let out a sneer. “Are you going to the Student Union interview tonight too?”
Although the other girl’s tone made her uncomfortable, Cha Yuxuan stuck to her principle of avoiding unnecessary conflict. She wasn’t angry, but she wasn’t warm either. “Mm,” she replied flatly.
Deng Yingting continued to herself, “Supposedly, Yan Qingran prefers delicate male Omegas. I suggest you don’t get your hopes up.”
Cha Yuxuan gave another cold response. “Oh.”
Deng Yingting shrugged, stopped talking to her, and went back to her own business.
Cha Yuxuan straightened her clothes, packed the necessary interview materials and essentials into her small bag, gave a quick goodbye, and headed out.
The Student Union interviews were scheduled for Tuesday from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM. Those without evening classes could come early, and those with classes could come later; the schedule was quite considerate of the students’ academics. However, this also made everyone sigh—they couldn’t find a legitimate excuse to skip class. It was truly difficult.
Cha Yuxuan arrived right at 7:00 PM. There were already seven or eight people in line, both men and women. Following the instructions of the Student Union members, she sat in a nearby meeting room and waited quietly.
The interviews were fast: five people at a time, five minutes per group. Soon it was Cha Yuxuan’s turn. She followed the others into the interview room.
The room was quite ordinary—just a simple meeting room. Five people, led by Yan Qingran, watched them silently. Out of these five, Cha Yuxuan knew three of them. Su Meng and Na Liangcai sat on either side of Yan Qingran, likely serving as Vice Presidents. She didn’t know the other two, but they looked familiar.
Cha Yuxuan smiled inwardly. With an interview like this, she felt no pressure at all. She would pass regardless of what happened.
The five applicants handed in their introductions, one copy for each interviewer. Cha Yuxuan’s profile was visibly packed; the entire A4 sheet was filled, comparable to the resume of a graduating senior. This immediately made the other people in her group nervous.
Yan Qingran scanned the red-background photo on the resume and then quietly looked up at the real person. Her gaze froze on those red lips and didn’t move for a long time.
In her daze, Su Meng nudged her. She quickly looked down at the profile, but her mind was filled with the image of those lips, and her heart began to race.
She’s wearing the lip glaze I gave her!
Yan Qingran hurriedly scanned the five profiles with a hint of excitement. A small smile appeared on her lips as she placed Cha Yuxuan’s sheet on top and began the routine questioning.
The other interviewers asked a few follow-up questions to confirm the candidates’ presence and expressive abilities. Once finished, they called for the next group. In that brief interval, the five interviewers voted unanimously for Cha Yuxuan to be selected.
One department head who wasn’t in the loop looked at Cha Yuxuan’s resume and said with a wry smile, “This girl is too outstanding. Placing her in any single department would be unfair to the others.”
Su Meng shot a glance at Yan Qingran. Yan Qingran replied casually, “Then we’ll just absorb her directly into the Executive Committee.”
Su Meng was startled by this answer and thought to herself: You are definitely using your public office for personal gain.
The other interviewers froze for a moment, but before they could object, the next group walked in. Yan Qingran didn’t pay them much mind. She stood up, leaned over, and whispered, “You guys handle this group. I’m going to the restroom.”
