What to do if I've locked myself in a book! - Chapter 53
—
“Big brother, did you get what you wanted?” Cheng Yi squinted as he felt around on the sofa for his black-framed glasses.
Once he found them and put them on, the blurry scene snapped into focus. In an instant, his squinty eyes turned into those of a handsome young man with thick brows and deep-set eyes.
After all, he and Cheng Ye were real brothers and looked somewhat alike. Both had deep, defined features. Cheng Ye’s eye sockets were deeper, his eyes longer and narrower, and paired with an exceptionally high nose bridge, he gave off a cold, aloof impression.
Cheng Yi looked gentler by comparison, but unlike others his age, he lacked brightness and youthful energy. Instead, he gave the impression of being prematurely mature, with a slightly goofy contrast.
No one knew who he inherited his severe nearsightedness from. At only nineteen, he couldn’t function without his glasses. This had once made the suspicious Cheng family patriarch doubt his parentage, until a secret paternity test finally put his mind at ease.
Because of this, before the age of thirteen, Cheng Yi barely knew what paternal love was. His father had always ignored him, and even his biological mother didn’t like him much.
From a young age, it wasn’t that he didn’t understand social relations—he simply didn’t care. He preferred to stay in his own world, tinkering with small inventions his father dismissed as useless.
Only his eldest brother Cheng Ye and second brother Cheng Zhan truly cared about him, and the brothers had always been close.
At this moment, Cheng Ye was sitting in the swivel chair in his study, staring intently at the video being transmitted from the drone to the computer.
Early that morning, Cheng Zhan had told him that Ling Qianqian would be working at BLUE. He wanted to go see her, but feared that meeting her again would cause his emotional defenses to collapse. After struggling with himself all day, he finally asked his nineteen-year-old brother Cheng Yi for help. He only meant to watch a recording of her—but never expected to see such an unbearable scene.
Just over a month ago at the ball, she had begged him to take her away. Now she was openly fooling around with Ye Xize in her workplace.
When she was already Bai Yiyan’s woman.
A nameless resentment burned fiercely in his chest, filling him with anger and leaving him unable to calm down.
He felt both grievance and hatred—hatred toward himself for being weak, for not cutting off his feelings long ago, yet still thinking about her nonstop.
“Big brother?”
Cheng Yi pushed his glasses and walked over. His slightly childish voice came from a tall, well-built body, creating an odd contrast. He was almost as tall as Cheng Ye now; if they stood together, it might be hard to tell who was older.
Cheng Ye was completely focused on the computer and didn’t hear him.
When he finally looked up and saw Cheng Yi approaching, he immediately snapped the laptop shut.
“Mm, A-Yi, you did well filming this,” Cheng Ye said hurriedly. He pulled out the card reader, stuffed it into his pocket, and stood up. “I’ll take this with me.”
“Oh.”
Cheng Ye left in a rush.
He couldn’t hold back anymore. He decided to go to BLUE immediately.
—
Ye Xize and Ling Qianqian only did it once before she ruthlessly sent him away.
After all, it was still work hours. She didn’t want to be that reckless.
The man was sensible enough. He left right away, without lingering.
Now she had already tidied her clothes and was resting against the sofa.
Since Ye Xize had booked all the private rooms, there would be no more guests tonight.
Just as she was about to take a short nap, the door was suddenly pushed open.
Cheng Ye rushed in, panting, his suit and hair still dotted with fresh rainwater.
She was startled. The moment their eyes met, she jumped up from the sofa.
“Ji Shi?”
Hearing her call out a strange name, his brows knitted tightly. He slammed the door shut, locked it, then strode over to her with long steps, looking down at her shocked face.
“Who is Ji Shi?”
Her mind went blank—she had mistaken him for someone else. “Ahem, Cheng Ye… why are you here?”
Mistaking her expression shifting from surprise to disappointment, the frustration in Cheng Ye’s chest nearly swallowed him whole.
“Why can’t I be here? This bar belongs to my brother.”
“Oh… then sit down—mm?!”
Before she could react, he suddenly pulled her into his arms and kissed her fiercely.
