What to Do If Beta Cannot Be Marked? - Chapter 45.2
These were all things Lu Zhi had said after school.
Chi Jinxian added, “See, Dad? We both understand the situation perfectly.”
Chi Sui: “…”
Was he supposed to praise the other party for being considerate and thoughtful?
The problem was… it actually made sense.
Chi Jinxian continued, “Lu Zhi has always been ranked first in the entire school. I’m going there to study don’t let your imagination run wild. Hindering someone’s pursuit of excellence is like committing murder!”
Chi Sui: “…”
Chi Jinxian pressed on, “Besides, Lu Zhi is basically my almost-boyfriend already. If you try to stop me, aren’t you just blocking your future son-in-law from entering the family?”
Chi Sui: “…”
Chi Jinxian mumbled, “I’m the first to disagree, and Xiao-Dad is the second. Majority rules you don’t get a say.”
Chi Sui: “…”
Yuan Si Bai couldn’t hold back any longer and burst into laughter.
Chi Sui wore an expression of utter resignation. Finally, he chuckled dryly and said, “Keep arguing with me all you want. Let’s see how many more days you can keep it up. Once your Xiao-Dad and I fly far away, we won’t bother with you anymore.”
To prevent the two of them from escalating into a fight, Yuan Si Bai quickly intervened, saying, “In that case, I’ll need to pack more things for you. Troubling others isn’t the same as troubling your grandparents or uncle.”
Chi Jinxian’s eyes lit up, and he nearly leaped off the sofa: “Great!”
Chi Sui promptly poured cold water on his excitement: “Just you wait Qi Suiyi is going to give you an earful.”
Yuan Si Bai chimed in, “Be sure to coax your uncle properly.”
Chi Jinxian felt deeply guilty toward his uncle, but for the sake of a wonderful winter break, his remorse lasted only half an hour before fading away.
Later, when he called Qi Suiyi to explain the situation, Qi Suiyi just laughed and said he didn’t believe it.
When he called again the next day, Qi Suiyi, sneaking in some video games, remarked, “Oh, come on do you really think fooling me is fun?”
On the third day, after Chi Jinxian laid out his case firmly and clearly, Qi Suiyi listened for a long time before finally saying, “I still don’t believe you.”
And so, amid disbelief, winter break arrived.
At noon, after leaving school, Chi Jinxian rode in Lu Zhi’s car back to his own home to pick up his prepared daily necessities.
When they arrived, Chi Sui and Yuan Si Bai hadn’t left yet their train tickets were for the afternoon.
“Brother, come inside for a bit,” Chi Jinxian invited Lu Zhi with a smile.
Lu Zhi replied, “Okay.”
Seeing Chi Jinxian bring Lu Zhi inside, Yuan Si Bai opened the living room door and said, “Come in, hurry. It’s cold outside.”
Lu Zhi greeted him, “Uncle Yuan.”
Yuan Si Bai acknowledged him and stepped aside to let him in.
Chi Sui remained seated motionless on the sofa, his elbow resting on the backrest. Only when Lu Zhi entered did he condescend to glance over.
Lu Zhi stepped inside and said softly, “Uncle Chi.”
Refusing outright would be awkward, but Chi Sui genuinely didn’t want to show a friendly face to the person who was about to take his son away.
After much deliberation and weighing his options, he finally responded with a serious tone, “Mm.”
As soon as Chi Jinxian stepped through the door and called out “Dad,” he eagerly dashed upstairs to grab his suitcase.
He hadn’t come back down yet.
“Xiao Zhi, have a seat while you wait,” Yuan Si Bai said, pouring him a glass of water. “Xiao An might take a few minutes.”
Lu Zhi reached out to take the cup. “Thank you, Uncle.”
Unlike the last time at Chi Jinxian’s birthday party, where there were few guests but most were strangers to each other, Yuan Si Bai hadn’t felt the need to scrutinize anyone then.
But today, with only a few of them present, Yuan Si Bai sat across the sofa and observed Lu Zhi from head to toe.
After a moment, he remarked, “You don’t look much like your father.”
Lu Zhi’s fingertips had been lightly tracing the rim of the cup, but they stilled at these words. He quickly lifted his gaze to meet Yuan Si Bai’s, his dark eyes reflecting a glimmer of daylight from the window.
“Mm,” he said. “People often say I take after my father.”
Both in appearance and temperament.
“Not necessarily,” Yuan Si Bai smiled. “Aside from looks, I think you might resemble Yan Yue more.”
Lu Zhi blinked unconsciously, as if suddenly feeling a bit unsettled.
He lowered his eyes and said softly, “Uncle still remembers me.”
“Of course,” Yuan Si Bai replied. “But because Xiao An was ill at the time, I never told him about these things. Don’t blame me, Xiao Zhi.”
Hearing this, Lu Zhi was momentarily taken aback, then realized that Chi Jinxian probably hadn’t told Yuan Si Bai that they had already cleared the air.
A gentle light flickered in his eyes as he said, “I won’t.”
“I’m ready, I’m ready!” Chi Jinxian’s voice rang out from the top of the stairs. He pulled his suitcase along and glanced downstairs, inexplicably sensing a pleasant atmosphere.
It felt as if his boyfriend had really come home with him.
Lu Zhi set the cup down on the coffee table and stood up.
As Chi Jinxian reached the first floor, Lu Zhi stepped forward to take the suitcase.
The two headed toward the door, Chi Jinxian unable to suppress his expression. Yuan Si Bai saw them off and said to Lu Zhi, “Then, for this period, I’ll entrust Xiao An to you and your Uncle Fang Shou.”
Lu Zhi nodded. “Okay.”
The last day of school had ended, and Qi Suiyi waited restlessly at home, but the familiar figure never pushed open his door.
His brows furrowed in frustration.
“Can’t you sit still?” In the living room, a man with an impeccably upright posture sat watching TV. Annoyed by the constant commotion beside him, he cast a cool glance sideways. “If you’re that bored, go to your room and do your homework.”
Qi Suiyi was baffled. He pointed at himself and said, “I just started my break.”
“Does a break mean you don’t have to study?”
Qi Suiyi sulked. “I’ll start studying when Xiao An gets here.”
“What?” For a moment, Chi Yuan Shen thought he had misheard. His brow furrowed as he said, “So you plan to skip studying for the entire winter break, is that it?”
Hearing this, Qi Suiyi was confused. “What do you mean?”
“What do you mean?” Chi Yuan Shen turned off the TV and stood up, his tall figure creating an overwhelming presence. “Xiao An called me saying he’s going to stay at a classmate’s house, and that he’s already told you several times. What do you mean you’ll wait until he comes to study? So you’re directly refusing to study, is that what you mean?”
Qi Suiyi remained silent.
Qi Suiyi tried to recall the past in confusion – every single incident had indeed happened before.
But he had always been fantasizing about a beautiful future life and never believed it.
That troublemaker Chi Jinxian was really going to be the death of him!
The more he thought about it, the angrier he got, and the more aggrieved he felt. Qi Suiyi stared blankly at his father, his lips suddenly trembling and his eyes turning red.
The next second, a tear as big as a bean fell with a “plop.”
Chi Yuan Shen: “…”
Chi Yuan Shen: “???”
Chi Yuan Shen was stunned.
“What do you mean?” he asked incredulously.
Just then, a soft “click” was heard as Qi Ming Shu returned from outside in her high heels.
As soon as he saw her, Qi Suiyi started crying even more fiercely, his mouth wide open as if he were about to burst into loud sobs.
Chi Yuan Shen: “!!”
Chi Yuan Shen frantically waved his hands: “It’s not my fault!”
Qi Suiyi shakily stood up, wiped his face with his hand, and walked toward Qi Ming Shu, stretching out his arms to ask for a hug.
“Seventh Miss sob sob sob Mom”
Qi Ming Shu didn’t even have time to glare at Chi Yuan Shen and quickly reached out to look at Qi Suiyi, her beautiful and elegant face filled with comfort.
“What’s wrong? Tell me. Did your dad hit you?”
“I already said it’s not my fault!” Chi Yuan Shen took a long stride, turned around, and went upstairs, escaping as he said, “Besides, when have I ever hit him?”
He pointed at Qi Suiyi and threatened: “You brat, if you dare talk nonsense, I’ll beat your butt until it blooms.”
Without waiting for anyone to give him a glance, he slammed the door shut and entered the study, hiding himself in a dark corner.
Qi Suiyi was too heartbroken, crying uncontrollably, and he threatened as well: “That brat Chi Jinxian, just wait until school starts, I’m going to strangle him.”
Meanwhile, Chi Jinxian, who was being cursed at and might not escape being strangled when school started, had already arrived at Lu Zhi’s house.
Not only had he arrived, but he had also gone to Lu Zhi’s bedroom to take a look.
Lu Zhi had agreed.
In fact, as soon as he entered, he could pretty much see the overall decorating style of the villa.
Although the color scheme inside wasn’t entirely black, white, and gray, it was still like Lu Zhi himself cold and detached at first glance.
“Uncle Fang has already set it up; you’ll be staying next to me,” Lu Zhi said as he carried his suitcase upstairs.
Chi Jinxian cheerfully followed behind him and asked, “Then, Brother, can I go see your room first?”
“Sure.”
Compared to the overall decorating style of the villa, Lu Zhi’s room unexpectedly had a touch of warmth.
It was relatively lively.
His desk was placed slightly to the left near the window, filled with books. The desktop was clean and neatly organized. Looking at the simple desk, Chi Jinxian recalled how, over the past few months, he and Lu Zhi would talk on the phone every night while doing homework.
Through his imagination, Chi Jinxian could almost picture Lu Zhi sitting at the desk, quietly solving problems and listening to him talk.
Thinking this, he slowly and gradually approached the desk.
Lu Zhi had gone to the next room to put away the suitcase and hadn’t returned yet.
Some books for the third year of high school, along with materials the teacher had assigned or not assigned, were all on the desk.
Even though he had the same ones, Chi Jinxian still found it novel.
Just as he reached out to pull one out and take a look, he noticed something sandwiched between the math “Five-Three” book and a set of English test papers.
A piece of paper was sticking out unevenly from between the two books the only bit of disorder in the room.
On that small exposed portion of the paper, someone had forcefully and densely written a sentence, it looked somewhat messy, as if written by someone in a state of agitation or while sternly reminding themselves of something.
The papers hidden beneath the book cover must have been covered in the same words.
Chi Jinxian often watched Lu Zhi solve problems and write.
So no matter how strange it seemed, he had no doubt that this was Lu Zhi’s handwriting.
And from those densely packed characters, one sentence could be deciphered:
Don’t get too close to him, or you’ll end up locking him away.
