What Should I do After Binding the Wrong System and the Female Lead comes Knocking at my Door? - Chapter 26
Pei Muchan had just finished handling some work at home when she remembered that her younger sister had returned home a few days ago.
She poured a cup of hot tea and knocked on Pei Yuanxi’s door.
“Jie (sister), you can just come in…”
Pei Muchan pushed open the door and saw her younger sister with her arms outstretched, whining for a hug.
After placing the tea on the bedside table, she gently patted Pei Yuanxi’s head and asked softly, “What’s wrong? I’ve been so busy with work these past two days that I didn’t have a chance to ask you. Weren’t you filming recently? Why did you come rushing back a few days ago? Did something happen?”
Pei Yuanxi shook her head in her sister’s arms and muttered, “I just couldn’t figure something out.”
“Is it about your girlfriend?”
Pei Yuanxi gave a shy smile. “Jie, how did you know?”
“Who else could make you, of all people, worry so much?” Pei Muchan lightly flicked her sister’s forehead and said softly.
Her younger sister had always been carefree and optimistic, and only the important people and things could occupy her heart. Otherwise, she didn’t care about much.
“Want to talk about it?”
Pei Yuanxi sighed and, having no secrets from her sister, recounted what had happened recently, leaving out some details about the drama they were filming.
After listening quietly, Pei Muchan frowned slightly, looking at Pei Yuanxi with some confusion. “Something’s not right. There must be more you’re not telling me. From what I know, the way you two interact should never have ended up like this.”
“Uh…”
Well, she definitely hadn’t told Pei Muchan that Gu Qing was a time traveler.
Not to mention Gu Qing, if Pei Muchan found out that her sister had a system inside her head, she would probably take her all over the world to get checked out.
It wasn’t that Pei Yuanxi thought she was going crazy, but rather, for her own safety.
After all, having an unfamiliar piece of black technology in the most fragile part of the human body—one’s brain—meant that her life was no longer something she could control.
But thinking of it now, Pei Yuanxi realized that the system did have its moments of benefit. Even though it issued tasks, it didn’t force the host to complete them, and the consequences for failing were just punishments.
If her system had been like this from the start, Pei Yuanxi wouldn’t need her sister to intervene—she’d be out looking for a doctor herself.
Speaking of which, the system hadn’t issued any tasks in a while. Even though Gu Qing and she were spending so much time together, the system didn’t show up.
No system intervention was good, though. Pei Yuanxi was now hoping the system would remain “offline” forever.
Her bond with Gu Qing had already been formed, and now, the system didn’t really play a significant role. Even if the system wanted to make Gu Qing the next movie queen, Pei Yuanxi could still do it on her own.
At this point, the system was no longer seen as a bridge connecting her and Gu Qing. In fact, it felt more like a barrier preventing them from moving forward.
If the system crashed, not only would her life be safe, but she would also be rid of one more thing to hide from Gu Qing.
Also, there was one issue Pei Yuanxi had been ignoring all this time.
If Gu Qing’s time travel was caused by the system, was it possible that the system might send her back?
Pei Yuanxi knew there was an original “Gu Qing” in this world, so if her Gu Qing became a movie queen, would the system secretly swap her back with the original Gu Qing? Was this a possible scenario?
Yes! There was a great chance!
In Pei Yuanxi’s view, everything in the world had a price.
There was no such thing as a free lunch. Just like the system—although it seemed like a fool, there must be someone behind it who created it.
The person behind the system surely had a purpose. Don’t believe any talk about fate’s gifts; that’s the most terrifying thing. All the “gifts of fate” had a price already marked in the dark.
What was even more disturbing to think about was whether the system might have gotten the wrong person in Pei Yuanxi’s case, and would it then replace her with the original Pei Yuanxi?
At the thought of this, Pei Yuanxi almost wanted to curse. She silently decided that from now on, she wouldn’t care about any tasks or rewards the system issued.
After all, Pei Yuanxi considered herself an ordinary person. Ordinary people didn’t seek special things—simple and peaceful was best.
Pei Muchan, seeing her younger sister deep in thought, chuckled softly. “Alright, if you can’t talk about it, then don’t. It’s okay.”
“Jie, what should I do?” Pei Yuanxi asked, feeling lost.
“Do you like her?”
Pei Yuanxi immediately nodded. “Yes!”
Pei Muchan asked again, “Does she like you?”
Pei Yuanxi hesitated. “…I think she likes me.”
“You see? This is your problem now. You can say you like her without hesitation, but you’re unsure about whether Gu Qing likes you, or if she just feels possessive because you’ve been good to her.”
“What about her? Does she not know?”
Pei Yuanxi shook her head. “I don’t know…”
Pei Muchan hugged her younger sister tighter, comforting her. “The problem is actually very simple: the relationship between you two isn’t deep enough. Because the feelings aren’t deep enough, moving towards intimacy brings a lot of self-doubt.”
“It’s easy to solve. If the feelings aren’t deep, just find ways to make them deeper.”
Pei Yuanxi raised her head and asked, “How do we do that?”
“Give both of you enough security. I’m not just talking about giving it to her, but to both of you. Do you understand what I mean?”
Pei Yuanxi thought for a while and shook her head. “I don’t understand.”
Pei Muchan chuckled. Well, it made sense. Her younger sister was in love for the first time, and it was no surprise that she couldn’t grasp such vague concepts.
“Sigh, I don’t know how to explain this either. You know, I’m emotionally clueless myself. Otherwise, why would you be waiting for me to be with Chu Chu for so long?”
Upon hearing some gossip, Pei Yuanxi immediately became interested. “Jie, what’s going on with you and Chu Chu Jie now?”
Pei Muchan: …
“You still have the energy to ask about my business!”
Pei Yuanxi laughed mischievously. “This is concern, concern!”
Pei Muchan thought for a moment, then said, “Well, since you’re here, I was thinking of going to Chu Chu’s house with you in a couple of days.”
“Ah?!!”
Pei Yuanxi was surprised, her mouth wide open. “Jie, are you going to meet her parents? Why do I have to go with you?”
“Chu Chu has been having conflicts with her family over her liking women. I can’t just sit by and do nothing, so this time, I want to help resolve the issue and make sure Chu Chu and I can be together without any worries.”
“As for taking you along, you’re good at comforting people. Help me smooth things over with her family. Also, her family’s place is beautiful, a great place to relax.”
Pei Yuanxi nodded. “Alright!”
Since her sister had said it, she wouldn’t let her down!
At this point, Pei Muchan asked again, “Do you want to bring Gu Qing along?”
“Ah?”
Pei Yuanxi was stunned again.
She stammered, “She’s filming…”
Pei Muchan rolled her eyes. “So what? She can take a break. Why are you nervous? I see that both you and Gu Qing seem a bit restless lately. It’s a good idea to take a trip and clear your heads.”
Pei Muchan reassured her, “Don’t worry. The focus this time is on Chu Chu, and it’s not the right time for you to meet her family. I’ll just treat Gu Qing as your friend for now. If you’re still worried, you can bring your other two friends along too.”
Pei Yuanxi was tempted.
Her sister was right. Recently, she felt that not only she and Gu Qing, but even Bai Zhou and Wen Liang were a little restless.
It might be nice to go see some beautiful mountains and relax a bit.
She wasn’t sure if Gu Qing would be willing though…
“I’ll think about it…”
Pei Muchan knew that her sister would consult Gu Qing before making a decision. She patted Pei Yuanxi’s head, “Alright, just let me know when you’ve made up your mind. I’ll arrange the timing. Get some rest, okay?”
“Good night, dear sister~”
Pei Yuanxi obediently waited for her sister to leave the room, then eagerly took out her phone.
It had been a few days since she last contacted Gu Qing, and she missed her terribly. Unfortunately, she hadn’t found the right excuse to reach out—until now!
Just as she was about to call Gu Qing, she wondered if it was too late and Gu Qing might already be asleep…
Better send a message to test the waters first.
Yuanxi: [Aqing, are you there?]
Aqing: [?]
Pei Yuanxi breathed a sigh of relief. Looks like Gu Qing was still awake, or at least still willing to talk to her…
Yuanxi: [I’m hungry, I haven’t eaten yet.]
Yuanxi: [Crying face.jpg]
Aqing: [Aren’t you hungry?]
Yuanxi: [… Yeah~]
Aqing: [Don’t be hungry.]
Yuanxi: [So tired.jpg]
Aqing: [Don’t be tired.]
Yuanxi: [….]
Aqing: [Ellipsis.]
Pei Yuanxi was stunned. Didn’t she know what “ellipsis” meant?!
As expected, Gu Qing was still upset with her, throwing a little tantrum.
Not daring to tease her further, Pei Yuanxi got straight to the point: [Aqing, these days I’m going to accompany my sister to Chu Chu Jie’s house to meet her parents. My sister invited you to join us for a few days.]
Aqing: [….]
Yuanxi: [Ellipsis.]
“Ha ha ha ha…” Pei Yuanxi couldn’t stop laughing, practically doubled over. Serves you right for using ellipsis! Now it’s your turn!
She deliberately mentioned that it was Pei Muchan inviting Gu Qing, so even if Gu Qing was still angry, it would be hard for her to refuse.
Sure enough, Gu Qing called her immediately.
“Hello, Aqing.”
Pei Yuanxi glanced at the phone screen. “Why aren’t you speaking?”
She heard a deep breath from the other side. “Yuanxi… did your sister really invite me?”
Pei Yuanxi almost nodded but realized they were on the phone. “Yeah, she asked me to tell you not to worry. This time, it’s mostly about her issue, so she won’t treat you as anything other than a friend for now.”
Hearing this, Gu Qing breathed a sigh of relief but also felt a little disappointed.
Still, she spoke softly. “Okay, I’ll go.”
Just as Pei Yuanxi had said, Pei Muchan would only treat her as a friend this time. It was actually better for Gu Qing to spend some time with her before meeting her sister in a more formal setting.
“Alright, I’ll let Old Zhao know. By the way, how are Wen Wen and Bai Zhou doing?”
Gu Qing paused, then decided to tell Pei Yuanxi the truth. “They seem to be arguing.”
“What?!”
Pei Yuanxi was stunned. She had thought Wen Liang and Bai Zhou were getting closer, but it seemed like she was wrong again.
She had thought Wen Liang was using some sort of trick, only to find Bai Zhou clinging to him. Now… was there a “Slap Pei Yuanxi’s System” at play with these two as well?
“What happened?”
Gu Qing hesitated for a moment before saying, “Bai Zhou woke up the next day and saw the rabbit girl outfit she was wearing and the lipstick marks all over Wen Liang. The world just collapsed.”
“And then?” Pei Yuanxi was eager for more details!
“Then she slapped Wen Liang and ran away.”
Pei Yuanxi: ……
