What Should I do After Binding the Wrong System and the Female Lead comes Knocking at my Door? - Chapter 12
Actually, it didn’t matter whether the driver reported on Pei Yuanxi’s matter or not Pei Muchan was already too overwhelmed to care.
Before, when Pei Yuanxi’s Weibo post went up, Pei Muchan had already seen it. She was lying against the headboard, quickly scrolling through the comments.
Meanwhile, Chu Qingyan, who was lying in Pei Muchan’s arms, curiously raised her head to glance at her phone.
“What’s so interesting? It’s just Yuanxi’s little girlfriend joining a studio, right? I bet you’re not seriously planning to find Gu Qing and just throw her a check to get her away from your sister, are you?”
Pei Muchan shook her head. “She’s not some little girlfriend.”
Chu Qingyan, somewhat unconvinced, argued, “How is she not? They signed a love agreement, you know!”
“Fake.”
“In my eyes, it’s real. They’re at least more legitimate than us. If signing a love agreement doesn’t make someone a girlfriend, then what are we?”
Chu Qingyan waited a moment, expecting some response from Pei Muchan. Seeing that Pei Muchan remained silent, she sneered.
“Sometimes I really envy Yuanxi. She can make you put your whole heart into her. Not just in the past, but even now Yuanxi and Gu Qing signed that love agreement, I know it’s fake. Should I be reminded by you?”
“Even if it’s fake, Yuanxi still gets your blessing. But what about me? Who can bless me?”
“When I was 30, my family kept pressuring me to get married and introduced me to people. I couldn’t take it anymore, so I told them I liked women. So for six years, I’ve never gone back home.”
“My family is a rural one, and you personally took me into a world that wasn’t meant for me, but my parents they’re still just simple, rural folks. I understand that they can’t accept it, but I’ve never regretted it. I’ve always thought that as long as I could stay by your side, I’d be fine.”
“But now, I’m not satisfied anymore. I’m already 36, and you’re 35. I never asked you for anything before, but since we’ve slept together, can you give me a reason, based on the way you taught Yuanxi to be serious in love, that we can keep going?”
After venting, Chu Qingyan took a glance at Pei Muchan, who was lost in thought, and immediately felt much better. She leaned back against the bed and lit a cigarette.
“I’ve told you a hundred times, don’t smoke in the bedroom.”
Chu Qingyan pretended not to hear the warning and, even with the deadly look Pei Muchan gave her, nonchalantly blew smoke in her face.
“You’re not sick, are you? Is that why you haven’t properly been with me? To avoid holding me back?”
Pei Muchan sighed and didn’t respond to Chu Qingyan’s teasing. She lightly poked Chu Qingyan’s thigh.
“It’s not about Yuanxi. It’s about me wanting to go back home with you. I want your family to fully accept me before we officially get together.”
“Really?” Chu Qingyan froze for a moment. “I don’t know why, but I can’t quite believe you.”
“Really,” Pei Muchan whispered.
“You know, since my parents passed away, I’ve longed for family. I don’t want you and your family to be at odds. If you can have family love, don’t sacrifice it for love. No one deserves that level of devotion—not even me.”
“But now that everything’s irreversible, just wait a little longer for me. Once I’ve cleared the obstacles ahead, we can walk together with ease and security.”
“Yan Yan, I won’t make you wait much longer.”
Chu Qingyan quietly extinguished her cigarette. Then, she asked, “What if my parents still don’t approve?”
Pei Muchan shook her head. “They won’t. Trust me, I can do it.”
“Can we turn off the lights and sleep now?”
With that reassurance, Chu Qingyan happily nodded, leaned into Pei Muchan’s arms, and whimpered for a hug.
Once the room was completely dark, Chu Qingyan suddenly asked, “What do you think Yuanxi is doing right now? She isn’t sleeping with someone, is she?”
At that, Pei Muchan tightened her arm around Chu Qingyan’s waist, causing her to fall asleep contentedly.
After Pei Yuanxi finished her shower, Gu Qing had already cooked dinner and was waiting at the dining table.
Pei Yuanxi tossed her damp hair over her shoulder, the freshly dried strands appearing even fluffier. As she moved, her back arched and a beautiful butterfly-shaped bone was faintly visible. In the wine-red nightgown Gu Qing had prepared for her, she looked even more wild and alluring.
Gu Qing couldn’t help but get distracted by the tiny droplets of water on the hollow of Pei Yuanxi’s collarbone. She swallowed hard before forcing herself to look away.
“I made some dumplings. I didn’t know what filling you liked, so I just made a variety of them.”
Pei Yuanxi eagerly sat down at the table. “Dumplings? I love dumplings! I can eat any filling.”
She wasn’t being polite—she genuinely loved dumplings. When she was younger, her older sister used to make dumplings for her, and it was the most efficient way to stretch out a portion of meat for multiple meals.
Pei Yuanxi picked up a dumpling and took a bite. “Mmm, it’s delicious!”
“Did you make these yourself?”
Pei Yuanxi thought her compliment would make Gu Qing happy, but instead, Gu Qing fell silent for a moment before responding, “I made these before. But… are they really that good?”
Gu Qing seemed to regret making dumplings for Pei Yuanxi. These dumplings were the ones she had made in the past, and after tasting one recently, she thought they were good. That’s why she decided to serve them to Pei Yuanxi. But now, she couldn’t even bear looking at them.
Especially since the dumplings she had made now didn’t taste as good as the ones her parallel world self made.
Pei Yuanxi paused mid chew, clearly aware of what Gu Qing meant.
Oh no… What kind of mess had she gotten herself into? Why did she have to go through this awkward situation?
But she couldn’t reveal that she had figured out what Gu Qing meant, so she forced a smile and pretended not to understand. “Is there anything to drink?”
Gu Qing, hearing that Pei Yuanxi wanted a drink, suppressed the impulse to throw the dumplings out and stood up to get her some water. As she walked to the kitchen, she asked, “We have some alcohol at home, do you want some?”
Pei Yuanxi quickly shook her head, panicked. “No, no, I’ve had enough to drink today. Just some plain water is fine.”
She didn’t want to get too tipsy and end up doing something irrational. Remembering her sister’s advice to take relationships seriously, she thought, Sister, I’ll definitely learn from you and won’t disappoint you!
Gu Qing nodded and poured two glasses of water, placing them on the table before walking back to the bathroom.
Pei Yuanxi, lost in thought, suddenly recalled that the system had mentioned her task had been completed. She checked her system, and sure enough, the reward for the “bet agreement” task was available.
There were two rewards—one was a book, but Pei Yuanxi wasn’t interested. The basic knowledge in the book wouldn’t be useful for Gu Qing, and she’d learn those things when she started attending the studio lessons soon.
The system seemed a bit useless with such basic rewards. Most systems were supposed to offer powerful items, like “a pill that changes destiny” or some sort of magical upgrade.
But then, Pei Yuanxi’s attention was caught by another item.
It was a pill that looked like a sugar ball, labeled “Seven Emotions and Six Desires Pill.”
The name sounded dubious, but in reality, it was exactly what any actor would dream of. It helped improve empathy, not just for scripts and performances, but in general.
Pei Yuanxi was excited. “See, I knew the system couldn’t be just about books!”
She almost felt bad for doubting the system.
Next time, she wouldn’t make that mistake.
She held the pill between her fingers, thinking how to get Gu Qing to take it.
It was impossible to just tell her, so Pei Yuanxi wondered if she should explain about the system’s existence. But she definitely couldn’t do that now.
Pei Yuanxi then noticed the two glasses of water Gu Qing had prepared. She wondered if the pill would dissolve in water. If not, putting it in the glass would make it too obvious.
As she hesitated, Gu Qing emerged from the bathroom and saw Pei Yuanxi holding the pill, looking uncertain about whether to drop it into her water.
“Yuanxi, you…?”
Pei Yuanxi froze, realizing she was caught.
The pill!
“Ah… let me explain!” Pei Yuanxi quickly stammered, waving her hands. “It’s a good thing, not what you think. You can choose whether or not to take it. I should go home now; the driver is waiting downstairs.”
She was mortified this was way too embarrassing!
What was supposed to be a good deed had turned into the scene of a crime.
She didn’t wait to see how Gu Qing would react. She just wanted to leave.
But to her shock, Gu Qing said, “I just threw your clothes in the washing machine.”
Pei Yuanxi: …
Gu Qing apologized casually, “Sorry, I assumed you didn’t refuse the shower because you planned to stay here. I saw your clothes were soaked in alcohol, so I thought I’d wash them.”
Pei Yuanxi: …
She had finally fallen into Gu Qing’s trap. Stunned, Pei Yuanxi mumbled, “It’s… It’s fine.”
She tried to force a smile. “If you’re not busy, I’ll message the driver and tell him to go back. You can pick me up in the morning to go to the studio.”
“It’s no trouble at all, but…”
After Pei Yuanxi sent the message, she heard Gu Qing’s hesitant voice, and she immediately had a bad feeling.
“Yuanxi, there’s only one bed in this place. But don’t worry, I can sleep on the couch.”
Pei Yuanxi thought: Can I recall the message? Is it too late?
