What Bad Intentions Could the Heroine Have? [GL] - Chapter 18
Chapter 18
“Who ordered the delivery?” Li Gang asked.
Chen Zhilong looked completely bewildered. “I, I d-don’t know?”
A thought suddenly rose in Mu Xingyu’s heart: Could it be that Feng Chichun’s people have arrived?
“Maybe one of you ordered it and forgot,” Mu Xingyu said, her heart beating so fast it felt like it would leap out of her chest.
Chen Zhilong said, “That’s p-possible. Gangzi, y-you go check.”
Li Gang nodded. “Alright, I’ll go now.”
Chen Zhilong suddenly asked, “D-do you want some p-pre-meal f-fruit?”
Mu Xingyu’s eyes followed Li Gang’s figure; she didn’t even hear clearly what the other person said, only nodding and humming in vague agreement.
Lin Mei dug out a bag of apples, and Chen Zhilong took an apple and began to peel it.
In that short span of time, Li Gang had reached the door, his hand resting on the door handle.
The police officers leaning against the wall with guns in hand exchanged looks. Inside the car, Feng Chichun’s expression was solemn, her eyes fixed tightly on the entrance.
Li Gang’s hand pulled the handle. Outside the glass door, the “delivery man” held a bag of food and asked, “Is this the delivery for Mr. Chen Zhilong?”
Hearing the delivery man say this, Li Gang’s guard instantly dropped by half. Long-ge truly was forgetful; he could forget something he had just done a moment ago.
“I’m his friend, I’m coming out for—” Li Gang pulled open the glass door. Before his words could fully fall, the “delivery man” dropped the food and seized both of his hands.
Li Gang subconsciously tried to resist, but the “delivery man” was a systematically trained SWAT officer. Thus, Li Gang’s resistance was useless, earning him only a more brutal subdual.
Li Gang was pressed to the ground, his hands pinned behind his back.
The “delivery man’s” action was a signal. The other police officers waiting outside began to move the instant they received it.
A dark mass of police officers swarmed into “Long-ge Hair Salon.” The leader barked, “Don’t move! Drop your weapons!”
Chen Zhilong, holding the fruit knife, was so scared he nearly cried. With a clink, the knife in his hand fell to the floor.
“I, I dropped it…”
The police quickly brought Chen Zhilong and Lin Mei under control; neither of them dared to resist.
Actually, as the rescued hostage, Mu Xingyu was also a bit dazed. While she was staring blankly, someone from the back of the crowd strode quickly toward her.
“Are you alright?”
By the time Mu Xingyu came to her senses, she was already held in Feng Chichun’s arms.
Feng Chichun’s breathing was still rapid, and her body was as hot as a ball of fire; Mu Xingyu could hear her violent heartbeat.
At this moment, Mu Xingyu had an illusion—as if she were Feng Chichun’s deeply beloved partner, cherished and protected.
This feeling… well, it was a bit suffocating.
Mu Xingyu patted Feng Chichun’s back; she couldn’t catch her breath. “Chichun, I can’t quite breathe.”
Only then did Feng Chichun loosen her grip slightly. She asked, “Are you alright? Are you hurt? Do you need to go to the hospital? I’m sorry, it was a lack of consideration on my part that led you to encounter this.”
“Actually…”
“Don’t be afraid now, the police are here.” Feng Chichun’s brows were tightly knit, her eyes filled with annoyance and self-reproach.
Mu Xingyu actually wanted to say she was perfectly fine—she had even had a hair wash and a few cups of tea.
“Let’s go! Whatever you have to say, say it at the station.”
Chen Zhilong and the others were escorted out of the salon by the police. Li Gang stiffened his neck and remained silent, Lin Mei directly cried out of fear, and Chen Zhilong…
Chen Zhilong, that little stutterer, even cried in intermittent bursts.
Kidnapping, regardless of whether it succeeds, is not something that should be done; in this regard, Chen Zhilong and his group were certainly in the wrong. But they were actually quite simple-minded and hadn’t truly harmed her. After receiving a round of criticism and education, as long as they knew what to do and what not to do in the future, it would be fine.
“Chichun, actually I wasn’t hurt. Will they go to jail?” Mu Xingyu asked.
The gaze Feng Chichun leveled at Chen Zhilong and the others was exceptionally cold. She said, “If you do something wrong, you must naturally accept the punishment.”
Seeing Mu Xingyu’s expression change, Feng Chichun suddenly smiled and lightly stroked the back of Mu Xingyu’s head.
“As for whether they go to jail, the police will judge. Although this neighborhood isn’t bustling, the surveillance coverage is very complete.”
Hearing this, Mu Xingyu breathed a small sigh of relief, and then she went to the police station with Feng Chichun to give a statement.
At the station, the police were interrogating Chen Zhilong and the others. Li Gang was like an oyster that couldn’t be pried open, and while Lin Mei understood their actions were wrong, she couldn’t stop crying.
The only one who could speak was Chen Zhilong, but his stuttering made the police so anxious they almost resorted to sign language.
“I, I was w-wrong, ugh… I w-won’t dare do it a-again. Regret, n-now I just r-really r-regret it…”
The interrogating officer patiently asked again, “I want to ask about your motive for the crime, and how you identified the victim?”
Chen Zhilong wiped his tears and said, “B-because of the ac-acquisition, I d-didn’t want to either, b-but I r-really know I was w-wrong.” (Note: “Acquisition” here refers to the “Egg Crisp” mentioned later due to his accent/mispronunciation of shougou).
Mu Xingyu sat to the side wrapped in a blanket. Hearing the word for “Egg Crisp” (dansu) made her stomach hungry; she hadn’t had time to eat dinner, only drinking a few cups of tea. Mu Xingyu covered her stomach, wondering if she should tell Feng Chichun she was hungry?
Feng Chichun had been paying attention to Mu Xingyu’s movements. Seeing her cover her stomach, she asked, “Does your stomach hurt? Did they hit you?”
Mu Xingyu immediately shook her head. “No, no! I’m just hungry, I haven’t eaten tonight.”
Feng Chichun’s expression softened considerably. She said, “I’ll have Xiao Zhong buy something for you. What do you want to eat?”
Mu Xingyu said, “I want to eat egg crisps.”
“Will that fill you up?”
Mu Xingyu shook her head honestly. “No.”
Over there, the police were still interrogating. Chen Zhilong was heard saying, “Officer Un-Uncle, if w-we actively ad-admit we were w-wrong, can our sentence be r-reduced?”
“Then how about another roasted sweet potato?”
Feng Chichun pressed her hand to her forehead. “Alright, I understand. It seems my worry was unnecessary; you still have the mind to eat roasted sweet potatoes.”
Mu Xingyu smiled a bit shyly and said, “I’m just hungry.”
Feng Chichun called Zhong Jin and told him to buy food. Then she looked at Mu Xingyu and asked, “So, what exactly happened?”
Mu Xingyu organized her words and briefly explained the sequence of events of today’s “kidnapping case” to Feng Chichun.
In simple terms, she had run into them while out shopping and was taken to the salon. She had a hair wash, drank two cups of tea, and originally, if the delivery had been real, they probably would have eaten together.
“The reason for the kidnapping was actually Murong Huai wanting to acquire that commercial street. If it’s acquired, their salon won’t be able to stay open. They were afraid the money offered would be too little to open a new shop, so they thought of kidnapping. Xiao Chen said it was actually a spur-of-the-moment thing; they happened to see me and acted on a sudden impulse.”
“Mm-hmm, keep going.” A police officer with a pen and notebook was nodding while taking notes.
Mu Xingyu was startled by this unfamiliar voice, looking up to find it was a policeman making the record.
Not far away, Chen Zhilong turned around with red eyes. He nodded. “Yes, it w-was j-just like that. I, I am w-willing to g-go to jail to a-atone.”
A young policewoman nearby handed Chen Zhilong a tissue and whispered, “Actually, in your situation, you won’t have to go to jail, though detention and fines are unavoidable.”
After all, Mu Xingyu’s personal freedom hadn’t truly been restricted, and the surveillance didn’t show them performing any dangerous actions toward her.
Although this farce of a kidnapping hadn’t officially ended, it was nearing its conclusion.
Shortly after, Zhong Jin delivered the roasted sweet potatoes and egg crisps. After Mu Xingyu finished eating, Feng Chichun said she would drive her home.
Mu Xingyu returned the blanket to the young policewoman and prepared to leave with Feng Chichun.
Suddenly, Chen Zhilong called out to Mu Xingyu: “T-today was our m-mistake. We will a-atone! In the f-future, when you c-come to our place to wash your h-hair, it’s f-free!”
Mu Xingyu subconsciously replied, “But your salon is about to close down.”
This critical hit caused Chen Zhilong to freeze instantly, and Lin Mei nearby cried even louder.
Feng Chichun patted Mu Xingyu’s shoulder. “Let’s go, it’s getting late.”
“Mm, goodbye. I’m leaving.” Mu Xingyu waved her hand and walked out of the station with Feng Chichun.
After getting into the passenger seat, Mu Xingyu buckled her seatbelt.
Feng Chichun spoke: “Although nothing happened this time, it served as a reminder. I will arrange a bodyguard for you later to protect your safety.”
Mu Xingyu looked up. “But… then you have to hire another person.”
Feng Chichun said, “Didn’t I say it before? Money is not a problem. Besides, if you are in danger, it is most likely because of me; that is my responsibility. I hope you won’t refuse.”
Mu Xingyu once again felt her heartbeat accelerate. She really wanted to… hug Feng Chichun one more time. To perceive if Feng Chichun’s heart rate was the same as hers.
