What Bad Intentions Could a Spoiled Little Brat Possibly have? - Chapter 27
Seeing Cheng Huai’s Softened Waist.
After staying in the laboratory for a while longer, Cheng Huai shook Fu Zheng’s arm and asked, “Brother, are you going back to the company?”
“What ghost of an idea are you plotting now?”
“What do you mean ‘plotting’…” Cheng Huai furrowed his brows and complained with dissatisfaction, “I just missed the pastries from last time…”
Expectation gradually seeped into Cheng Huai’s gaze. Knowing that Fu Zheng was most susceptible to his acting spoiled, he simply stretched out his arms and hung them directly around Fu Zheng’s neck, calling out in a delicate voice: “Brother…”
Sure enough, Fu Zheng picked up his bag, hooked his hand around the back of the boy’s neck, and lifted him up: “Let’s go.”
“Did the driver not come over?”
Cheng Huai was tucked into the passenger seat by Fu Zheng. Seeing Fu Zheng walk around to the driver’s side himself, he realized this car wasn’t either of the two he had ridden in before.
“Mhm, I left in a hurry,” Fu Zheng replied.
“Oh, why did you change cars again?” Cheng Huai asked during the interval while Fu Zheng started the vehicle.
The leather seats of this car were more comfortable; it felt as if they were tailor-made for him. When he leaned back against the backrest, it fit perfectly against the curve of his waist without a single gap.
Fu Zheng gave a non-committal hum and turned the steering wheel. He didn’t explain the reason for the car swap, only asking: “Do you have a driver’s license?”
Cheng Huai shook his head: “No…”
He had spent the entire summer break fighting with his parents over his college application choices; where would he have found the time to get a license?
Fu Zheng stepped on the gas, and the car started moving slowly. He said, “Find some time to learn.”
“I don’t want to go to a driving school…” Cheng Huai said gloomily. “I heard driving instructors are very fierce and like to take petty advantages. If you don’t drive well, you get scolded. I don’t want to be scolded…”
Cheng Huai propped his chin on his hand, turned toward Fu Zheng, and stared at him intently: “Brother, why don’t you teach me?”
Fu Zheng paused for a few seconds before saying: “I’m very busy.”
“I promise I won’t take up too much of your time!” Cheng Huai immediately sat up straight. “And don’t be so quick to reject me. Once I have my license, in case the driver isn’t around one day just like today then I can be the one to drive you!”
Fu Zheng glanced at him: “I have a use for you?”
Fu Zheng added: “I’m having you get a license so you aren’t reliant on others, not so you can be someone’s driver. In the future, there will inevitably be times when I am not by your side. You need to master these essential skills.”
Hearing this, Cheng Huai’s nose instantly went sour. His eyes stared fixedly at Fu Zheng: “What do you mean? What do you mean ‘not by my side’?”
He looked as if he would burst into tears right then and there if he didn’t hear a satisfying answer.
Fu Zheng reached out a hand and pinched the flesh on Cheng Huai’s face, saying: “I meant when I go on business trips.”
Cheng Huai pouted, his body relaxing: “That’s more like it.”
When they reached the company parking lot, Cheng Huai followed Fu Zheng out of the car. Seeing that they were getting closer to the private elevator, he hurriedly grabbed Fu Zheng’s hand: “Brother, can you accompany me to the first floor? I want to drink that Jiabao yogurt from the vending machine.”
The underground parking lot and the CEO’s private elevator on the first floor were not connected, so he had to lead the man to the first floor to formally announce his relationship with his “Brother.”
Fu Zheng checked his watch and said, “I’ll have Secretary Zhou go buy it for you.”
Secretary Zhou, who was anxiously waiting for the boss’s return in the meeting room, suddenly sneezed.
“No, I want to drink it right now…” Cheng Huai used the same trick again, hugging Fu Zheng’s waist. Without much effort, he pulled the man to the public elevator, pushed him inside without letting him argue, and then buried his face in Fu Zheng’s chest with a successful smile.
Fu Zheng was pushed against the metal railing of the elevator, his waist bumping into it. He subconsciously placed his palm on Cheng Huai’s back, steadying him for fear he might accidentally fall.
Cheng Huai rested his chin on Fu Zheng’s chest, looked up, and said obediently: “I knew Brother was the best.”
Fu Zheng looked down at Cheng Huai’s “getting a bargain and acting like a spoiled brat” expression, and a soft snort of laughter escaped his nose.
Just then, the elevator doors arrived at the first floor and slid open.
A group of people stood outside the elevator, chattering about work. Someone was the first to see the two people hugging inside the elevator and shouted, “Holy crap!”
“In broad daylight, under the bright sun and blue sky, to think someone would be so brazenly… Fu, President Fu?”
After seeing the true face of the “brazen” person in the elevator, the coffee that person had just sipped almost sprayed out.
The man even took two steps back, looking up to confirm it was indeed the public elevator.
At the same time, the others fell silent and called out in unison: “President Fu.”
Cheng Huai pouted and let go of Fu Zheng’s waist. He turned his head to look, ignored the astonished gazes of the others, and took Fu Zheng’s hand to walk out, not forgetting to flash a brilliant smile.
“Hi, what a coincidence! Hello everyone,” Cheng Huai said beamingly to the group of people who had turned to stone. He then looked up at Fu Zheng, who appeared to be letting him do as he pleased.
“My younger brother,” Fu Zheng introduced casually. “Pardon the intrusion.”
“Not at all, not at all,” the crowd waved their hands.
Seeing the curious gazes of the crowd, Cheng Huai thoughtfully added: “My name is Cheng Huai.”
The man who had just spoken so colorfully stood straight as a board. Upon hearing Cheng Huai’s words, he bowed slightly and said, “Hello, President Fu’s brother, Cheng Huai.”
The others were struggling to hold back laughter. A few people turned away unnaturally, but their shaking shoulders were clearly visible.
With eyes full of smiles, Cheng Huai dragged Fu Zheng toward the vending machine after the greetings.
The vending machine was right next to the front desk. The receptionist had seen Cheng Huai before and still had an impression of him. Seeing him with the boss now, she suddenly remembered what Secretary Zhou had instructed before. She stepped forward proactively to ask: “President Fu, do you need any assistance?”
Cheng Huai was focusing on studying how to use the vending machine. Hearing this, he turned his head, smiled, and said, “It’s fine, I just asked my brother to accompany me to buy yogurt.”
Fu Zheng took out his phone and handed it over, letting him scan the code to pay. Then he said to the receptionist, “Have Secretary Zhou and Assistant Xu come down together.”
I only heard it was a family member last time; so it turns out it’s his brother.
The receptionist was frantically “eating melons” (gossiping) internally, but her face remained professional and calm with a practiced smile: “Understood, President Fu.” She then retreated to her post without changing expression to call the secretarial line, though she didn’t forget to sneak glances out of the corner of her eye.
Cheng Huai had just paid for the yogurt and was pouting while picking out drinks. Before he could finish, Fu Zheng’s phone rang. He handed the phone to Fu Zheng.
Fu Zheng stood in place to answer the call. Seeing Cheng Huai’s softened waist as he leaned over, his gaze darkened slightly, and his voice turned cold instantly: “Stand up straight.”
“Oh.” Not knowing why Fu Zheng’s temper suddenly flared, he still obeyed obediently. Some of the text on the items in the machine was hard to read, so he took a few steps back.
Cheng Huai saw a red glass bottle with the English “Lindemans Kriek” printed on it. He pointed: “Brother, I want this cherry-flavored one.”
Fu Zheng glanced at it. “No. It has alcohol.”
Cheng Huai’s face collapsed. Why on earth was he allergic to alcohol?!
He was only nineteen; was he really destined to be completely estranged from all alcoholic drinks in the future?
Fu Zheng hung up the phone and handed it back: “Finished choosing?”
As if venting his frustration, Cheng Huai frantically increased the quantity of the items he had selected, saying despondently: “I can only empty out the yogurt then.”
The vending machine clattered incessantly as various yogurts dropped from the shelves one after another.
When Zhou Yuan and Xu Luyao came down, they saw a small mountain of yogurt piled on the front desk. He questioned the receptionist with a look; the receptionist spread her hands at him, indicating he should see for himself.
Seeing Secretary Zhou, Cheng Huai said with a smile: “Secretary Zhou is here.”
Zhou Yuan felt his skin crawl at that smile.
Zhou Yuan walked quickly to Fu Zheng’s side and said, “President Fu, the directors from Yunsheng have been waiting for you. Director Chen is losing his temper; he’s almost at the point of flipping tables.”
Fu Zheng replied lowly, “I know.”
Cheng Huai picked out his favorite Jiabao from the pile, took another of the same for Fu Zheng, and then said: “These two are for me and my brother. The rest are for your afternoon tea. President Fu is treating today, so remember to thank him.”
“Mr. Cheng, there’s no need to be so polite.” Zhou Yuan looked at Fu Zheng hesitantly. After receiving Fu Zheng’s nod of approval, he and Xu Luyao began moving the yogurt upstairs.
Fu Zheng took Cheng Huai into the private elevator.
It was very quiet in the elevator with only the two of them.
Cheng Huai drank his yogurt silently, occasionally peeking at Fu Zheng with his peripheral vision. Fu Zheng was already a man of few words; now that he wasn’t speaking, Cheng Huai didn’t dare to open his mouth either.
The elevator numbers climbed rapidly.
Fu Zheng looked down at the person who had been silent since entering the elevator and asked, “Happy now?”
Cheng Huai’s small face was flushed. Hearing this, he nodded like a little chick pecking at grain: “Brother, will you blame me?”
Fu Zheng let out a soft snort: “You dared to act on your own without being sure if I’d blame you?”
Cheng Huai instantly said aggrievedly: “That’s because you never used to blame me!”
That was his privilege. No matter what outrageous thing he did, Fu Zheng would never truly be angry with him. But now, he actually had to confirm through a question something that should have been a given.
“Mhm, I don’t blame you now, either,” Fu Zheng said softly.
He was just a bit afraid—afraid that the people around him with ulterior motives would hurt Cheng Huai.
The company was a place of many people and loose lips. Although his “wings were now full” (he was powerful), he wasn’t entirely without constraints. Cheng Huai was the apple of his eye, his very life; he would not allow anything to go wrong with Cheng Huai.
Fu Zheng’s fingers rubbed the yogurt bottle in his hand. He had always thought his will was strong enough strong enough that even when facing Cheng Huai’s naked confessions, he could say those hurtful rejections with an unruffled heart.
But as it turned out, he didn’t understand himself at all. He rejected him once, twice, three times… yet every time he saw the hurt in Cheng Huai’s eyes, his own heart felt as if it were bleeding. The pain inflicted on Cheng Huai’s body and mind returned to him tenfold, a hundredfold.
Over these many years, he had long since kneaded Cheng Huai into his own bones and blood.
Fu Zheng sighed inwardly. Perhaps between the two of them, the one who had been utterly defeated all along was himself.
