What Bad Intentions Could a Spoiled Little Brat Possibly have? - Chapter 20.2
These past few days, he had stubbornly refused to bow his head and admit fault, refusing to contact Fu Zheng. But his body was more honest than his reason; subconsciously, it had brought him to the place where Fu Zheng worked day and night.
Cheng Huai carried his bag, his footsteps light and unsteady. He wasn’t sure if it was because of the smoke and fire in the restroom, but he felt his cheeks burning, and his head was spinning.
The revolving door separated the interior and exterior into two different worlds. The moment he stepped into the lobby, the excessive air conditioning made him shiver.
Cheng Huai instinctively hugged his arms and stopped before the security gates, unsure whether to stay or go.
“Sir, do you have an appointment?” Seeing him hesitate, the receptionist approached and asked softly.
“An appointment?” Cheng Huai frowned slightly. To see my own brother, I need an appointment?
“Yes. If you don’t have an appointment, you cannot enter for now.” The receptionist gave a professional smile and returned to her station.
Cheng Huai stood frozen for a moment. Just as he was about to turn and leave, a familiar voice called out to him.
“Mr. Cheng?”
Zhou Yuan was coming through the main door holding a stack of documents. He looked visibly surprised to see Cheng Huai. “I thought I saw wrong… Did President Fu ask you to come?” He turned to the receptionist. “This is President Fu’s family. You can let him through directly from now on.”
“Understood. My apologies.” The receptionist nodded quickly with a hint of regret.
“I’ll take you up in the executive elevator.” Zhou Yuan swiped the gate and gestured for Cheng Huai to go first. “The executive office is on the 39th floor. President Fu is in a meeting; I’ll take you up first.”
The elevator rose steadily. In the confined space, Cheng Huai’s dizziness returned. He rubbed his temples. “When did my brother get back?”
“Quite a coincidence; he just returned this morning. His original overseas trip was cancelled,” Zhou Yuan replied.
Cheng Huai nodded silently, but a strange warmth suddenly surged from the base of his spine, quickly spreading through his entire body.
His heart tightened. He instinctively reached into his bag for his usual medicine bottle, only to realize he hadn’t had time to buy a new one after the last one was lost.
A wave of panic hit him, and he subconsciously clutched his chest.
“Are you unwell?” Zhou Yuan perceptively noticed his abnormality.
“I’m fine.” Cheng Huai comforted himself mentally. Maybe it’s just because it’s been too long since I saw Brother.
Ding— The elevator reached the top floor.
The metal doors slid open silently, and the view before him opened up.
Zhou Yuan led Cheng Huai to the CEO’s office. “There is a lounge inside where President Fu occasionally naps. If you’re tired, you can lie down for a bit. An assistant will bring some snacks shortly; President Fu specifically ordered the restaurant to prepare them. They should be to your taste.”
Cheng Huai nodded gently. The office was spacious beyond imagination. Nearly half the area was a raised workspace, with a large desk sitting atop three steps. A minimalist circular chandelier hung above it, illuminating a comfortable lounge area surrounded by dark leather sofas.
Besides standard office equipment, the room was equipped with a treadmill and a lounge chair. Most striking was a giant simulation sandbox against the wall, where a robotic arm was tirelessly moving up and down with rhythmic clicks.
Cheng Huai placed his bag on the sofa and walked to the floor-to-ceiling window. The view was excellent; he could see the winding river in the distance, and looking down, he could see exactly where he had just gotten out of the taxi.
How luxurious, Cheng Huai sighed inwardly.
But the thought that Brother had returned without telling him caused the suppressed grievances to surge up again.
Shortly after, a girl with a high ponytail entered timidly carrying a box of snacks. The moment she saw Cheng Huai, she visibly froze, her cheeks reddening instantly. She began to stutter: “He—Hello. I am President Fu’s assistant, Xu Luyao. These are the snacks President Fu ordered. Please enjoy.”
Cheng Huai tilted his head slightly to observe her.
After meeting Zhou Yuan and Uncle Wang, he had assumed all the staff around Fu Zheng were male. He hadn’t expected there to be a female.
A trace of bitterness rose in Cheng Huai’s heart, but his face remained graced with a polite smile. He walked to the sofa and sat down, saying softly, “Could you introduce these snacks to me?”
Xu Luyao nodded quickly. She leaned down slightly and introduced them in turn: “This is a French Vanilla Mille-feuille. President Fu said you prefer French desserts, so he had the chef adjust the recipe. This is a Black Truffle Chocolate Mousse. Next to it is Raspberry Champagne Rose, Earl Grey Cloud Cake, and finally the Hazelnut Symphony. Please try them and see which you like. I’ll be waiting outside; let me know if you need anything.”
A recipe specifically modified for him?
“Thank you.” Cheng Huai revealed a brilliant smile.
Once the assistant left, Cheng Huai tried each snack. Although they were indeed exquisite and delicious, he had no appetite. He took only a small bite of each.
A moment later, he took out his phone to snap a photo of the snacks. He opened the chat window that had been silent for a long time and sent the first message in days.
Brother, when will your meeting be over? ’m hungry.
His tone was so natural it was as if the unpleasantness of the past few days had never happened.
In less than three minutes, a reply popped up.
Half an hour. Eat some snacks to tide you over first. Okay.
After sitting bored for a while, Cheng Huai’s attention was drawn to the continuously operating robotic arm. He walked to the sandbox and curiously watched it work.
Noticing an empty cup on the table, he instinctively reached for it. Almost simultaneously, the robotic arm slid smoothly to his side, precisely grabbed the cup, moved it to the coffee machine, and in a fluid series of motions delivered the freshly brewed coffee back to his hand.
Cheng Huai’s eyes widened in surprise.
Noticing a pile of building blocks nearby, he tried selecting the “Competition Mode.” The robotic arm immediately changed its style, acting like a steady master, precisely extracting key wooden blocks. Even more impressively, it used the extracted blocks to build a miniature Eiffel Tower next to the sandbox.
Cheng Huai couldn’t help but gasp. He tried several other functions and was completely blown away.
Just as Cheng Huai was fully focused on controlling the robotic arm, watching it skillfully stack another miniature structure, a low voice came from behind him: “Is it fun?”
The voice was like an electric current running down Cheng Huai’s spine. That familiar heat instantly surged through his veins, rushing to his cheeks. Cheng Huai’s heart tightened, and he hurriedly stood straight and turned around.
Fu Zheng was casually pulling off his tie and tossing his suit jacket onto the sofa. He glanced at the snacks on the coffee table each of which had been neatly sampled and raised an eyebrow. His gaze landed on the person standing obediently by the sandbox, while the robotic arm continued to flail behind Cheng Huai.
In an instant, he looked down at the box of snacks again: “Not to your taste?”
Cheng Huai took two steps forward, his eyes glued to Fu Zheng’s face: “No, I just don’t have much of an appetite.”
Having not seen him for days, he used almost all of his self-control to keep his gaze strictly on Fu Zheng’s face, not daring to let it wander downward for even a second.
However, Fu Zheng’s overall presence was too strong the broad shoulders disappearing into a well-fitted shirt, and the rolled-up sleeves revealing powerful, smooth forearms.
On the surface, Cheng Huai maintained an air of casual calm, but inside, his emotions were churning. That long-dormant beast had already awakened, greedily devouring his reason.
At that moment, Fu Zheng looked up.
Cheng Huai’s breath hitched. It was as if invisible fingers had scrambled his composure. He desperately tried to suppress the heart that was pounding wildly because of that gaze. Even the forced smile on his lips faded slightly, leaving only the drum-like thumping in his ears.
“Then let’s cook at home.” Fu Zheng looked at him with dark eyes, picked up his car keys, and naturally grabbed Cheng Huai’s bag from the sofa.
“Miss Lin, you can’t go in like this… Miss Lin!” A commotion suddenly erupted outside. Zhou Yuan’s voice of protest mingled with the sharp clack-clack of high heels, finally coming to a halt at the door of the executive office.
Lin Yarou pushed her way in despite Zhou Yuan’s obstruction. Seeing Fu Zheng and Cheng Huai standing side-by-side in the middle of the office, the corners of her lips curled into a meaningful smile: “I thought President Fu was too busy with a myriad of affairs to even touch the ground. Now it seems that’s not entirely the case…”
When her gaze turned to Cheng Huai, she broke into a bright smile: “Hi, pretty boy. We meet again.”
Zhou Yuan stood at the door, hesitating: “President Fu, this—”
Fu Zheng nodded toward the door. Zhou Yuan understood, pulled Xu Luyao out with him, and gently closed the door.
“Does Miss Lin have business?”
Lin Yarou’s eyes darted between the car keys in Fu Zheng’s hand and the backpack that clearly didn’t fit his style. She smiled radiantly: “Nothing urgent. I just wanted to ask if President Fu is free for dinner to discuss our collaboration. It looks like you’re heading out? Since it’s such a coincidence, why don’t we go together?”
As she spoke, she glanced casually at the snacks on the table, her tone light: “President Fu, the snacks I tried last time were truly unforgettable, much more exquisite than those from Weijing. To be able to eat such delicious snacks often, I’m even thinking of speeding up our cooperation.”
She emphasized the word “our” very clearly.
Cheng Huai stood by and listened, the corners of his lips curving into a faint, unreadable arc as he looked at Fu Zheng.
So I wasn’t the first one to eat these snacks. Everything about them being “specifically modified for him” was a lie.
Lin Yarou turned back to Cheng Huai, her tone as natural as if she were the lady of the house: “Do you want to come along, little brother?”
Hearing this, Cheng Huai suppressed the growing agitation in his heart. He unhurriedly took two steps forward, casually hooked his pinky around Fu Zheng’s, tilted his head toward him, and spoke in a languid yet unmistakably intimate tone: “I’ll listen to whatever Brother says.”
