Wanxi Rebirth - Chapter 96
With all matters settled, on the way back to Xishan, Yue Tingxi recounted the battles in the otherworld to her old friends and the two elders of the Star-Gazing Pavilion.
“So…”
“So now you’re our World Consciousness?!”
Before the Six Elders could finish asking, Luo Yansha exclaimed first, “You… you’ve really become a god? Then do you still have emotions?”
“She does,” Qin Suli answered on her behalf.
“Just hard to sense. She still has all the emotions she should have,” Yue Tingxi explained, while gently taking Qin Suli’s hand.
If one had to describe it, it was the shift from “doing what one wants” to “doing what one should.”
“You don’t seem like someone with ambitions to become a god,” the Six Elders frowned, staring at her. “Why make this choice?”
“It was necessary for the battle. There was no other way,” Yue Tingxi said calmly. “Now, it’s out of selfish desire—I want to return to the past and save as many demons and people as possible.”
“…Return to when?”
“Before the demon calamity began.”
Luo Yansha was too shocked to speak, and the two elders of the Star-Gazing Pavilion exchanged glances. Elder Five reached to move his star chart again, but Yue Tingxi stopped him.
“Now that I am a god, calculating my fate for you could only harm you,” she said.
Peering into destiny comes with a price; the closer the seer is to the one being observed and to the laws of Heaven, the closer they are to death.
The Six Elders thought Yue Tingxi’s approach was unwise, yet an ally who has become a god making such a choice is something they cannot interfere with.
As they hesitated, a cold laugh rang from above:
“Little girl, you’re nothing. I finally get it.”
The image of the Jade Mountain elder appeared before them, eyes squinting as she looked Yue Tingxi over, then at the hand she held with her partner.
Though the white jade flying boat wasn’t forged from her true body, its core was a piece of her jade. No matter where in this world it went, she could sense it.
She walked toward the resting cabin silently, without another word, and Yue Tingxi immediately stood.
“The ancestor will surely be angry. I’ll speak with her myself,” she said, subtly signaling to the others.
Qin Suli understood, and while Yue Tingxi left, she explained everything in detail to the allies alongside Lan Fengqing.
“You plan to go back to the past?”
The voice of the Jade Mountain elder grew cold and full of anger. “Do you realize you are still walking on the Chessboard of the Executor?!”
“The World Consciousness left this mess behind and ran to save another world! If it hadn’t granted you divine power and authority, fine. Everyone goes back home, and whatever disasters come, even the demon calamities, without interference from the World Consciousness, even a broken and filthy world can still survive!”
“But now?” she continued, scrutinizing Yue Tingxi from head to toe. “I don’t know how it tricked you into succeeding the World Consciousness, but anyone who possesses this power will inevitably want to fulfill the deepest desires of their heart!”
“You have experienced the conflict between the two races and understand how chaotic a demon calamity could become. That’s why you want to return to the earliest time and prevent the emergence of demons—perhaps that is exactly why it entrusted you with godly authority,” the Jade Mountain elder’s voice trembled slightly. “I know you grew up under my care, so I understand your choice—it’s your own will. But do you know what you will face?”
“If you change an initial event, will you linger in the past to prevent a chain reaction? What if your power is exhausted over thousands of years—can you really return to us?”
“You formed a Dao-partnership with a child of the Qin family, pledging eternal loyalty. Have you thought of the suffering the child will endure if you cannot return?” The Jade Mountain elder restrained the urge to grab Yue Tingxi by the collar, instead clutching her sleeve and reciting the names of all the demons of Xishan she had bonded with.
She said nothing else, yet just hearing the names, Yue Tingxi understood the unspoken question: “And what about us?”
Unlike Xi Sheng, Yue Tingxi had ties to this world—family, a Dao-partner, and old friends. She was not rootless; she had a home, people who cared.
No matter what, Xishan was always where she belonged.
After careful thought, Yue Tingxi said softly, “Then if I say I’m going back to save myself?”
Seeing the elder’s confused gaze, she fully explained her connection with the Bashe.
Then the Jade Mountain elder started cursing the World Consciousness.
Very crudely.
Listening to the curses, Yue Tingxi thought the elder likely wished she would just live a carefree life, training peacefully, forming a Dao-partnership with a suitable human or demon, and maybe even ascending to the higher realm.
If not, her scattered spirit would still return to Xishan; even if she gathered power to become a demon in the future, she could live freely there.
But now, bound by too many karmic ties and unresolved matters, she would return to the past no matter who advised against it.
As soon as this thought settled, the Jade Mountain elder embraced her tightly.
“No matter the outcome, return to Xishan, okay?” the elder whispered. “Even if fate changes, some bonds, once they exist and aren’t severed, will allow you to return to each other eventually, even if the timing is different or you’re apart.”
Returning to Xishan also meant renewing her bonds with the land.
Without hesitation, Yue Tingxi agreed, then quietly spoke the title she had longed to say but hadn’t dared: “Mother.”
The elder visibly trembled, mumbling softly, “You’re not just breaking out of jade again…” but soon, Yue Tingxi felt warmth drip down her nape—the elder, who was supposed to be an image, had actually manifested her true body and instantly arrived from Xishan.
“If you’re in a hurry, don’t return to the mountain to meet them,” the elder said after regaining composure. “If I don’t see you, the longing remains as it has for these past three years. Seeing you might only add fuel to the fire. What if you truly cannot return?”
Yue Tingxi understood and nodded. “I’ll prepare fully before departing… By the way, the Salvation Scales seem to want to meet you.”
“I have nothing to say to her!” The Jade Mountain elder’s voice flared at the mention of the one closely connected to the World Consciousness. “Or should I say… she deserves a scolding?”
Yue Tingxi didn’t know what Xie Zhi intended, but she sensed through their blood pact that this person wanted to meet the Jade Mountain elder.
As she pondered whether to call Xie Zhi over, the bronze-haired woman appeared beside her.
Sensing the tension, Yue Tingxi decided to stay with her Dao-partner. Saying “No fighting,” she quickly left the cabin.
Meanwhile, the two young ladies had finished sharing intelligence with the allies. When Yue Tingxi returned, the two Star-Gazing Pavilion elders were making records, and Luo Yansha sat feeding Bifang sunflower seeds, lost in thought.
She wasn’t sure what more she could say to a friend who had become World Consciousness.
She had prepared delicious food and drinks, wanting to let her friends relax and enjoy a proper meal after the harsh journey, but she hesitated, fearing it might become their last meal together.
Unconsciously, Bifang pecked all the seeds in her palm.
It tilted its head, unsure of her hesitation. Seeing so much food in the storage pouch, it thought perhaps now was the right time.
Just as Luo Yansha was lost in thought, a familiar aroma of dishes reached her nose.
“Surprise from Sha Sha!” Bifang shouted, hanging the empty pouch around its neck, then happily ate a crispy fried shrimp.
It hadn’t forgotten etiquette; it also placed the iced drinks Luo Yansha prepared before everyone.
“Ah… right! I did prepare food and drinks…” Luo Yansha hurriedly explained. “These are seasonal dishes, and the iced drink has peach pulp. Want to try?”
“Of course.” Yue Tingxi, being closest to her, was the first to accept, sipping the drink and grabbing the fried shrimp.
The food was casual—snacks, pastries, stuffed eggplant—easy to eat on the road.
While eating, Luo Yansha shared what had happened in Xishan over the past three years.
“Shortly after you left, natural disasters struck,” she said. “Xishan was protected by the Jade Mountain elder. Everyone cooperated to maintain the protective formation, and even the Shuo Han flower helped. We survived the most unstable period.”
Later, they responded to aid requests from humans and the Eight Demon Mountains. The Jade Mountain elder didn’t allow them to go far, only helping nearby forces.
Because the protector of the Qingxu Sect was also a human friend of the elder, many demons went there; some even assisted at the Hundred Medicine Valley.
“Chan Ying went there. She’s skilled with spirit plants, and the acting head of the Hundred Medicine Valley values her greatly. She’s learning much from him,” Luo Yansha said, looking at Lin Fengqing, who responded with a smile.
“I know. After seeing Tingxi, I’ll return.”
Her words carried hidden meaning, and Qin Suli, listening, subconsciously touched the newly bound 7364 system in her mind.
She would never let Tingxi face this alone.
