Wanxi Rebirth - Chapter 76
The rooms assigned to them were spacious. While Qin Suoliu was transferring spiritual power to her younger sister, Yue Tingxi used a screen to separate their beds from the outside world and activated golden law-force, setting up a barrier that even Tribulation-Transcending cultivators could not pierce.
Afterward, she retrieved the cold-ice box from her inner chamber that held her original body.
Before departing, Yue Tingxi had considered leaving her original body in Xishan. If Xishan were in danger, or if she herself encountered peril, her corporeal form at the Out-of-Exodus realm could still be of use.
However, Qing Yushan rejected the idea: “Take all your trump cards! If you have the means to survive, then you must not die!”
Yue Tingxi realized that leaving “herself” in Xishan wouldn’t put Qing Yushan at ease. Ultimately, she placed her original body back in the inner chamber of her cave dwelling and carried it with her.
…Now, taking it out specifically was due to a strange personal reason.
Even though Bashe’s body resembled her natural form, she still had some private desires. While ordinary embraces and kisses were fine, if they were to engage in dual cultivation, she preferred to use her own body.
Yue Tingxi caressed the cold jade box, staring at her peacefully sleeping self inside, feeling a subtle, strange sense of unreality.
After learning the truth about reincarnation, she had wondered whether Bashe could possibly be a version of herself returned from some future time.
After all, every time the World Consciousness restarted time, it followed massive casualties in the world.
If the Book Management Bureau could use large-scale deaths to determine an invasion anchor point, and as Lan Fengqing previously suggested, amassing resentment through large-scale slaughter or even breaking through the celestial barrier might be possible… then perhaps in a future world of catastrophic loss, her own self, bereft of friends and family, might have chosen to use forbidden methods and travel back in time.
If not, why would she and Bashe have so many similarities? Why did her soul carry Bashe’s aura, and why could she so easily take over Bashe’s body without any discomfort or discord?
And why would Bashe hand over her body so easily—was it truly just out of flimsy “mother-daughter affection”?
But she could not dwell on this question. Thinking too much would scatter her mind, preventing her from focusing on the task at hand.
Moreover, at this point, her speculations were just divergent thoughts based on known hints. Unless absolutely necessary, she saw no reason to preset the worst-case future.
“Huige told me that Yin Guang has erased the intruder’s memories regarding the true identity of the Twin-Fox Asuras and the subsequent plans,” Qin Suoliu explained to Yue Tingxi while infusing spiritual power into Qin Yin Guang. “Though he might acquire information about the Twin-Fox Asuras from interactions within the secret realm and continue to interfere, we already have enough time to expose the Ghost Sword’s identity beforehand.”
“So you intend for Lan Gou to fall from grace, giving us sufficient justification to eliminate him?” Yue Tingxi asked.
“Something like that. But the ‘Ghost Sword’ shouldn’t remain a thorn in people’s hearts. Knowing the Ghost Sword is dead allows everyone entering the secret realm to feel more at ease,” Qin Suoliu replied.
Yue Tingxi realized that since the Ghost Sword had died, the Twin-Fox Asuras would likely face similar persecution by those wielding the banner of justice. But she assumed that the more familiar “Miss Qin” had anticipated this, so she nodded without further comment.
She wasn’t sure if it was due to her blood contract with the World Consciousness’s messenger, but Yin Guang’s body now seemed like a bottomless pit. Only after Qin Suoliu had transferred all her spiritual power could the vacant meridians be filled.
“…Container.”
After sending Qin Yin Guang out of the barrier and placing her under the care of Lan Fengqing and Luo Yansha, Qin Suoliu suddenly said, “Yin Guang’s body has become a vessel for the World Consciousness. Through her blood contract with Huige, she can wield certain spells and powers, but this also subjects her to manipulation. For instance, she has absorbed spiritual power far beyond her realm. Though this might aid us in the future, it risks turning Yin Guang into a tool. Her choices may no longer be entirely her own but shaped by the World Consciousness’s ‘grand perspective.’ She might already be beyond her own control even as we explore the Xuanshui Secret Realm.”
Yue Tingxi’s gaze shifted. She thought of Yin Guang’s previous recounting. At first, it might have been a minor wish, but upon seeing the secret realm as revealed by the World Consciousness, everything likely fell under its control.
She didn’t know what to say for a long moment before finally replying stiffly, “We need to finish the remaining path first.”
The chessboard was nearing its end, the stage was set, and the actors were in place. Hesitation would no longer aid their plan. Only by following the World Consciousness’s arrangement could they hope to confront it directly.
The cold-ice box was opened. Yue Tingxi divided a portion of her soul into her original body and sat up, cautiously looping her arms around Qin Suoliu from behind.
Her body was chilly, yet it awakened Qin Suoliu from a brief moment of confusion.
—Wasn’t she already aware of what kind of existence the World Consciousness was? Why then feel that its moves were incomprehensible?
Using Bashe’s body, Yue Tingxi faced the barrier, while from behind came quiet murmurs.
This was an indescribable sensation. The soul she had separated was hers, and the soul within Bashe’s body was hers as well. She could listen to herself and Miss Qin cultivating behind her, while simultaneously being touched and kissed herself.
Bashe’s still-cold snake body was warmed by the penetrating “half” of Qin Suoliu. Due to the separation of souls, she maintained her rationality and fully transferred her spiritual power.
“You… really want to just sit here until it’s over?”
After an unknown interval, Qin Suoliu’s hoarse voice asked.
“Of course. I haven’t forgotten the main task,” Yue Tingxi replied solemnly, still facing the barrier.
“If dangers lie ahead, this may be our last time,” Qin Suoliu continued earnestly.
“But this is Bashe’s body…”
“Yet it belongs to you now, and you have completely absorbed it into yourself, shaping it as part of you, haven’t you?”
Half of Qin Suoliu’s body remained within the original Yue Tingxi snake body, yet her gaze softened toward the Yue Tingxi sitting at the barrier, “I don’t mind, Tingxi-elder sister.”
Without waiting for a response, she slightly extended the lower half of her body, letting a snowy white fox tail coil around the back of Yue Tingxi.
Yue Tingxi finally understood why Qing Yushan always called this person “Little Fox Spirit.”
The fox tail merely curled around her, not restraining her. Yet she felt irresistibly drawn, as if enchanted.
Bashe’s body, being at Tribulation-Transcending level, made spirit transfer more effortless. Soon, Yin Guang’s meridians were filled.
Technically, the task should have been complete, but the little fox spirit was unwilling to let her leave.
The fox tail split into two strands, each wrapping around a Yue Tingxi.
Yue Tingxi, though helpless, let it happen.
Chan Ying had said it correctly: this child shouldn’t have been spoiled, or she could manipulate her easily—understanding her bottom line, nature, hidden thoughts, and longings.
There was still time before the Ghost Gate opened. The two old friends knew of their relationship and, as Yue Tingxi moved the screen and opened the barrier, subtly reminded them not to leave regrets behind.
Then, let’s enjoy ourselves.
Night fell, one moment into the hour of Hai.
The two elders of Star-Picking Pavilion arrived. Qin Yin Guang had already awakened, while the original Yue Tingxi returned to the cold-ice box, now placed in the inner chamber by the current Yue Tingxi.
“The Ghost Sword’s information has been spread by the inn staff while everyone returned to their rooms, with only the possessed Lan Xu Zong’s head, Lan Chaoyao, unaware,” said the Fifth Elder. “But divinations show no signs of Lan Master being possessed by evil spirits.”
“His situation is very special. We only understood this after refining the World-Saving Scale,” Lan Fengqing continued, speaking with sorrow and anger. “My brother’s reputation has been completely ruined! His life’s greatest wish was to cleanse the world of filth, yet now, because of a usurper, he has become the embodiment of the filth itself!”
She knew her identity could serve as strong proof, so she openly revealed the Ghost Sword’s identity after consulting Qin and the others.
Though prearranged with Miss Qin, she could not help but display her genuine feelings thinking of her family, lost due to defiance, their memories erased, and their souls crushed.
Even the two elders of Star-Picking Pavilion were moved.
“We sincerely apologize! Our divinations required confirmation, and if they accidentally touched upon your wounds, it was due to our lack of foresight!” the Sixth Elder quickly apologized, flustered that he could not find comforting words, and scrambled to remedy the situation. “At the Ghost Gate opening at midnight, half of those entering the secret realm will be friends, family, or disciples who suffered at the Ghost Sword’s hands. They might not even need you to act—they could kill the Ghost Sword with a single spit!”
“That cannot happen; the demon talismans and the ‘few Cold Pastry Flowers’ cannot fall into others’ hands!” Yue Tingxi reminded.
“You’re right, Qing Daoist. We must also observe the Ghost Sword carefully, ideally striking as he is barely escaping!” the Sixth Elder agreed.
With the alliance solidified, Lan Fengqing introduced Luo Yansha, Qin Yin Guang, and Bi Fang, who all used aliases.
Knowing Bi Fang, with pure fire spiritual power, was present reassured the Fifth Elder.
The Sixth Elder still worried about the World-Saving Scale taken two years prior. Yue Tingxi summoned Xie Zhi to project a divine consciousness, allowing a private conversation with the two elders.
Whether Xie Zhi relayed further guidance from the World Consciousness was something she no longer bothered to investigate.
As Hai hour drew to a close, after checking all spiritual tools, pills, and supplies, everyone left their rooms and waited in the main hall for the Ghost Gate to open.
This time, no one spoke of the Twin-Fox Asuras. The hall was silent, filled only with suppressed, angry glances directed at Lan Chaoyao.
Lan Chaoyao felt as if invisible needles pierced his skin, yet he had no proof. Scanning with his spirit or the 7364 system revealed nothing—an inexplicable sensation with no origin.
