Wanxi Rebirth - Chapter 73
After understanding the connection between Qin Yingguang, the 7364 system, and the World Consciousness, Qin Suoliu went to persuade her mother, while Yue Tingxi took Qin Yingguang to meet old friends.
She summoned a leaf-shaped magical artifact. Once Qin Yingguang sat on it, Yue Tingxi sat beside her and flew toward Chanying’s residence.
“Before you ‘descended to the mortal realm,’ had you ever seen Xishan?” she asked casually after activating a soundproof barrier.
“Yes,” Qin Yingguang nodded. “The sunsets in Xishan are beautiful. In spring, the mountains are covered with flowers of all colors. In summer, the ponds are full of lotus leaves and blooms. In autumn, the mountain breeze is cool, and the fruits are sweet. In winter, everything is coated in silver, like dusted with sugar.”
Seeing Yue Tingxi smile, she smiled faintly in return. “Among the Eight Great Demon Mountains of the mortal realm, Xishan is my favorite.”
“Too bad we’re about to set off, or I could have shown you around more,” Yue Tingxi said. “Your sister has always loved Xishan.”
“But she can’t stay in Xishan forever,” Qin Yingguang murmured, reverting to that carefree little girl’s tone. “She… never rests. She wants to change too much, and for that, she has to keep moving.”
Yue Tingxi agreed. Over the past year of being the “Twin Fox Asuras” with Qin Suoliu in the mortal realm, she had learned more about the young lady—what she desired: first, the ordinary happiness of a human girl; second, the uncertain future of both human and demon races.
But to change either would not be possible in just a few or even dozens of years—the roots of their current states trace back thousands of years, and many rules have become established conventions. Those who try to alter them are often seen as heretics and even persecuted.
Being a demon, the more Yue Tingxi understood humans, the more she understood why Bashé would want to destroy the entire world to create a new one.
It meant a total reset, like a blank sheet, on which one could paint freely, reshaping order and erasing past sins to establish the so-called “peaceful world.”
But understanding does not equal agreement. If the demon realm’s seal were broken again and calamities arose, she would only use the power she inherited from Bashé to seal everything back.
“If we survive after eliminating the Book-Entering Administration, I’ll continue to accompany her and help her fulfill her long-cherished wishes,” she said to Qin Yingguang. “By the way, before we got the truth, we were already married and became Dao companions, but our memories of past reincarnations interrupted us—otherwise, we could have watched fireworks once more. Zhazha bought quite a few fireworks.”
“Why not set them off before we depart? For good luck,” Qin Yingguang suggested. “Even humans fire ceremonial cannons when opening a shop!”
“Alright, since everyone’s here, we’ll do it tonight,” Yue Tingxi agreed happily.
The leaf artifact soon brought them to Chanying’s residence.
Pushing open the door, Yue Tingxi saw Lan Fengqing.
Now, with her cultivation and perception, one glance was enough to leave her in awe.
Lan Fengqing wore a long robe of gray-blue, with a jade flute and a storage pouch at her waist. Her fair wrist bore a string of silver bells carved with twisting vines, and her hairpin was layered with multiple magical arrays—essentially, she was dressed entirely in magical implements!
Seeing Yue Tingxi bring Qin Yingguang in, Lan Fengqing teased, “Why didn’t you bring Suoliu?”
“She’s persuading Aunt Lan,” Yue Tingxi replied as she sat down. “Yingguang can control Hui mao at will. That alone makes her qualified to join us.”
Lan Fengqing, who had been briefed last year and had spent a year studying Hui mao, nodded in agreement. “I think so too. Yingguang could probably maneuver the entire cloud vessel and help us bypass the transmission vortex. If anything dangerous happens, she can likely escape unscathed.”
“Yes! I can take everyone and retreat too!” Qin Yingguang hurriedly added.
“That’s reassuring. I can safely leave Zhazha to you all,” Chanying laughed. “I originally wanted to go, but the Qingyu Mountain master recently decreed that all Xishan demons must stay in the mountains from the moment the Ghost Realm Secret Domain opens until it closes… but the master surely has her reasons, so I will comply.”
Yue Tingxi roughly guessed the reason. Qin Yingguang had mentioned that to suppress the accumulated resentment from frequent reincarnations, the World Consciousness had even moved it to the high-risk Secret Domain in the past. This plan is the final “counterattack.” If nothing goes wrong, it should release all the accumulated resentment in the Secret Domain.
Although the Secret Domain is separate from the real world, it doesn’t mean the real world is completely unaffected—otherwise, the heads of the Qin family and the former head of Qingxu Sect would not have investigated the truth a decade ago, nor would they have fallen ill and died because of it.
“Gather a few supplies these two days. Listening to the Qingyu Mountain master is never wrong!” she reminded.
Chanying nodded, reluctantly glancing at Luo Yansha, then squinted at the Bifang in her arms.
This little creature was indeed an ancient spiritual beast, growing fast. Within a year, it could already form a foundation, and its dantian began condensing energy. In three to five years, it might even form a full elixir and possibly transform into a human.
Chanying treated Bifang as a daughter—hoping she could gain something in the Ghost Realm Secret Domain, but also slightly worried that Bifang’s rapid growth might make her a rival.
Well, if that happens, she could always settle it in a fight. Though she had the age advantage and experience, this young bird barely two years out of the shell probably had no right to compete.
Yue Tingxi chatted casually with her old friends for a while, reminding them to watch the fireworks near the tribulation platform tonight. Then she signaled Qin Yingguang to explain the plan to Luo Yansha—what to do and how to survive in the Ghost Realm Secret Domain—while she took Lan Fengqing into a soundproof room.
“Did anyone stop you from coming here?” Yue Tingxi asked.
Lan Fengqing knew who she meant and shook her head. “No one did. They don’t interfere with my outings anymore. Only my master opposes my going to the Ghost Realm Secret Domain—she fears I won’t return… just as she did for my parents back then.”
Sighing, she added, “Back then, my brother and I were too young to fend for ourselves, and my weak body could only manage to not trouble the adults. My master did everything to ease their suffering and… saw them off in the end.”
Yue Tingxi gently patted her shoulder but, knowing the truth behind the Secret Domain illnesses, couldn’t offer the usual consolations.
Lan Fengqing, not needing others’ sympathy, shifted the topic. “Did you get more new intel from Yingguang? Otherwise, Suoliu wouldn’t let a little sister risk entering the Secret Domain with only Huimao.”
“Yes. Enter my soul space, and I’ll show you,” Yue Tingxi said generously.
She had learned to avoid offense within her soul space. Even for an old friend of Qin Suoliu, she only brought Lan Fengqing’s spirit into the shallowest layer of the illusion and presented the latest information, already compressed by Qin Yingguang.
Meanwhile…
“Two years ago, the demon artifacts temporarily kept by Qingyu Mountain master, I will bring them into the Ghost Realm Secret Domain to sever their connection with the mortal realm.”
In Qingyu Mountain Master’s residence, Qin Suoliu continued discussing details with her mother. “If nothing goes wrong, Tingxi and I will kill that ghost-demon to prevent it from instructing the mediums to open the demon realm seal again.”
Regarding the ghost-demon, Qin Yingguang had already shared the intelligence.
“Be cautious and prioritize your survival,” Lan Kongming said gravely. “Those mediums previously, under its manipulation, performed mass sacrifices to open the Secret Domain prematurely. Later, powerful immortals sealed it with their lives. But it gave those mediums a bad example—He Shen was sacrificed ten years ago by fanatic mediums to the ghost-demon.”
“Afterward, He Shen also became a medium. Even warned by the former Lin Chao Yao, he recklessly walked this path,” Qin Suoliu said. “That ghost-demon must have promised conditions related to life and death; otherwise, how could so many have been deceived?”
Ordinary cultivators defy heaven, but ghost-mediums go against natural law and ethics. The concepts of life and death are blurred, and once in their hands, the dead never rest, and the living die for their so-called “greater cause.”
Lan Kongming sighed, then asked, “He Shen is still in the Qin family’s underground prison. If you plan to bring him into the Secret Domain to ‘test the waters,’ I can bring him now.”
“No need. Execute him on the spot,” Qin Suoliu stated expressionlessly. “We kept him earlier to extract information, but now we have enough. He has no value alive, especially since he has already harmed countless people before being captured.”
To kill in repayment for crimes is natural and just.
The day passed with various discussions.
By evening, well before the fireworks were to start, Yue Tingxi led Luo Yansha and Bifang along a shortcut to Qingyu Mountain Master’s small wooden roof.
Bifang protested fiercely, repeatedly struggling out of Luo Yansha’s arms, hopping onto the roof, then back, chirping for her to ride him instead.
“No, I want to make this jump myself!” Luo Yansha insisted, carefully placing each step.
Bifang grumbled, finally landing beside her, and jumped along with them, searching for the best footing.
Yue Tingxi walked ahead, stopping to check behind her, ensuring they avoided the numerous annoying traps the master had “set to increase difficulty,” until they reached the top.
Qin Suoliu was already waiting there with Qin Yingguang.
Their eyes met; Yue Tingxi smiled and patted the soft cushion beside her. “The master said this spot has the best view for observing the fireworks.”
Yue Tingxi nodded and stepped closer, sitting down, accepting the freshly squeezed juice handed by the young lady, focusing intently on the tribulation platform, waiting for the brilliant fireworks to light the sky.
