Wanxi Rebirth - Chapter 15
Yue Tingxi actually wanted to drink a few more cups.
She had no idea how this “Creek Mountain Purple” was brewed, but it seemed to perfectly suit her taste. Yet, she had never tasted a wine with this flavor when she lived in the mountains.
But the thought of what might happen if she drank too much made her instinctively resist.
Drinking too much leads to drunkenness, and she would lose her composure when drunk. Revealing her demonic form would be a minor issue—after all, the young mistress wasn’t afraid of demons, and she hadn’t done anything since coming to the Qin manor.
Her biggest fear was that she might, without meaning to, reveal the truth of her rebirth or the fact that she was living in the world of a book.
Either of these things involved massive stakes, and such stakes could easily lead to a deadly situation.
Even though she had now proactively sought out Qin Su’s help to form a temporary alliance and had even cooperated on two dangerous matters—beating up Lin Chaoyang and capturing the Soul-Wielder—she still couldn’t trust this young mistress with her whole heart.
She didn’t want to be captured and placed under strict surveillance again, becoming someone’s puppet, just because she knew too much.
Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Qin Su also pouring herself a full cup. Yue Tingxi blinked and quickly had an idea.
She picked up her cup and solemnly raised it into the air.
“To be honest, this demon of mine is a bit stubborn. Since this fine wine is named after the beautiful scenery of my hometown, it is as important to me as my home,” she said to Qin Su. “So for me, it’s not yet time to drink it freely, as I cannot yet return home.”
She didn’t dare to gamble on Lin Chaoyang’s bottom line. In order to unify the human world, that damned hypocrite was capable of kidnapping innocent demons and “killing his wife to prove his enlightenment.” In this life, he had even gone a step further, directly seeking out the notorious Soul-Wielder the day after his “newlywed beloved wife” went missing.
Therefore, she absolutely could not return to Creek Mountain until the crisis was resolved.
“I toast this cup to Miss Su, in hopes that there will come a day when I can drink an entire jar of it!”
With that, Yue Tingxi drank her cup first as a sign of respect.
As the wine flowed down her throat, the scent of flowers filled her senses, and she felt as if she was back in her own patch of jasmine fields.
Qin Su didn’t drink. She watched Yue Tingxi gulp down the wine without blinking.
In her eyes, being afraid of getting drunk was the same as being afraid of talking in one’s sleep.
Both states were defenseless, uncontrollable moments of vulnerability. The subconscious could cause people to unintentionally reveal truths, and if a person with bad intentions overheard them, it could lead to disaster.
She was unwilling to sleep beside her and unwilling to drink to her heart’s content. In this life, what exactly was Yue Tingxi afraid of her knowing?
The dishes were almost gone. Qin Su also finished her cup, watched the fish for a while to calm her emotions, and then spoke, “I’m going to discuss the Soul-Wielder matter with my clan members. If you’re tired, you can find a place to rest in my hall.”
She put down her cup, got up, and left the pavilion on her own.
But she didn’t take the jar of “Creek Mountain Purple” with her. The jar, with its mud seal broken, was left wide open, its scent wafting directly toward anyone’s nose.
Yue Tingxi stared at the wine jar, her heart itching.
It was said that the lives of big aristocratic families were very extravagant. Even if only a sip was taken from a jar of good wine, they would pour out the rest afterward, unwilling to re-seal it and continue drinking.
She really liked this jar of wine and didn’t want it to suffer the same fate.
After a moment’s hesitation, she raised her hand to seal the opening and took out the storage bag from Miss Lin, carefully placing the entire jar of “Creek Mountain Purple” inside.
Leaving the pavilion, Yue Tingxi didn’t go to rest. Instead, she went to the jasmine fields where she had been that morning.
The chair that Qin Yingguang had brought for her was still there. She sat down, took out the thick book on the rules of the human world, and created a ball of spiritual energy to float in the air as a light source. She calmly continued to read.
“…Su, do you know what you’re saying?!”
After hearing her daughter’s purpose for coming, Lan Kongming could hardly believe her ears.
“If we can’t capture the Soul-Wielder, we will use the Soul Search art to pry into all his memories before executing him,” Qin Su repeated calmly. “It’s precisely because I’m clear about what I need to do that I came to my mother to discuss it.”
Lan Kongming knew her daughter’s personality well!
She said “discuss,” but she had probably already made up her mind and was just here to inform her—this child had been spoiled by her since she was young and was arrogant. If she was confident about something, she would definitely act on it immediately!
“The Soul Search art is a forbidden evil technique! I taught you the Soul Search art so you would know how to counter it! You must not act recklessly!” Lan Kongming raised her voice. “The subject’s Sea of Consciousness is torn apart the moment the spell is cast. Once the memories have been pried into, the Sea of Consciousness is inevitably and irreversibly destroyed! Everyone who has been subjected to the Soul Search art has died a tragic death…”
“He deserves to suffer such a fate,” Qin Su gently interrupted. “What’s more, Sect Leader Lin already gave him a chance ten years ago. Even for a cultivator, ten years is not a short time, but he chose to persist in his own way!”
“Fortunately, we captured him before he could fully master his skills, otherwise the human world would have to deal with another great calamity in the future!”
She took out the memory pearl she had prepared earlier and handed it to her mother. “This is the footage I recorded when Tingxi and I snuck into the Soul-Wielder’s residence. Although it may look like we were disguised and lying, it is not false.”
Lan Kongming immediately sent her spiritual sense into the pearl and frowned after a short while.
“…Even if he deserves to die, if the forbidden Soul Search art is to be used, it won’t be you, a little girl, who bears the responsibility!” She withdrew her spiritual sense and still shook her head resolutely, not hesitating to use the term “little girl” to needle her daughter who was already capable of standing on her own.
But she quickly changed her tone. “I will find a way to talk to the clan elders and persuade them to temporarily keep that Soul-Wielder!”
Qin Su had never intended to use the Soul Search art.
Although the technique could inherit all of the other party’s memories and gain a lot of important information, it caused significant damage to the caster’s Sea of Consciousness. Their own memories could become chaotic, blurry, and missing, or even assimilated without their knowledge.
She had merely presented “extreme circumstances” alongside a “potentially viable” plan. Her mother had also participated in the elimination of a Soul-Wielder when she was young and knew how terrifying they could be. Because of this, her mother would not refuse to keep He Shen in the name of research.
As long as she showed a firm determination to keep him, her mother would surely help.
Bidding farewell to her mother, Qin Su stepped out of the sleeping hall and sighed softly, facing the cool evening breeze.
She could even subconsciously calculate against the most important person and a demon. She was afraid she wouldn’t be able to be “the honorable Miss Qin” in this life.
As if by some supernatural impulse, she didn’t go straight to her own sleeping hall on the way back but walked toward the courtyard where the jasmine was planted.
Before long, the bright spiritual energy ball came into her view.
Beneath the light, a snake demon in a red robe was leaning back in a chair, calmly flipping through the old book she had given her.
She couldn’t help but walk over. “Why are you reading here? Aren’t you afraid of hurting your eyes?”
The other person seemed a bit surprised by her arrival. She turned her face in shock but then smiled and replied, “I like jasmine.”
Both her smile and her gaze were as pure and clean as Qin Su remembered from her childhood.
