Wagging My Tail in the Ice Queen CEO’s Embrace - Chapter 75
Ming Ying was afraid of disturbing her third sister’s rest, so she kept her voice soft while crying and speaking.
But as soon as her words fell, she heard a weak yet familiar female voice from behind: “Yingying?”
“Third Sister!” Ming Ying gasped in surprise, immediately covering her mouth. She carefully turned in Fu Anyu’s arms and stared in astonishment at the white fox on the bed.
Seeing the white fox trying to move, He Che hurried over with large strides.
“Don’t move! We just finished your treatment!” He Che gently pressed down on the white fox’s body, meeting her half-opened eyes. “Do you remember me? I bandaged your wounds yesterday.”
The white fox let out a turbid breath, sniffed her scent, and whispered, “I remember.”
But her gaze shifted toward Ming Ying, who was walking over.
“Third Sister, how… how are you awake?” Ming Ying asked, her heart aching at the sight of her sister covered in bandages and unable to move. She instinctively turned to ask, “Doctor He, didn’t you say Third Sister hasn’t woken from anesthesia yet?”
“Perhaps she used her spiritual power to actively break free from the anesthetic state,” He Che sighed, releasing the white fox and standing up. “You two keep an eye on her and make sure she doesn’t move around. I’ll go get the medicine now.”
After He Che left, only Fu Anyu and the fox sisters remained in the ward.
“Yingying…” the white fox called again, “Let Third Sister… look at you.”
Tears streaked Ming Ying’s face as she hurried closer.
Catching the familiar scent on her, the white fox closed her eyes briefly, tears trickling from the corners.
“It really is our little crybaby Yingying.” the white fox said with a weak smile. “Third Sister… searched so hard for you…”
“Third Sister, don’t talk anymore!” Ming Ying stroked the white fox’s paw, sobbing. “Focus on recovering first, just recover.”
As she was about to let go of the paw, she felt sharp claws loosely hook her palm, the white fox wasn’t letting her leave.
“The scents here are too unfamiliar, and Third Sister feels a bit unsettled.” the white fox pleaded. “Stay and talk with me, alright?”
Ming Ying hesitated, recalling He Che’s instructions, and glanced uncertainly at Fu Anyu.
Fu Anyu nodded. “Just chat with your sister for a while, but don’t talk too long.”
Ming Ying nodded as well, wiped her tears, and forced herself to stay calm as she asked the white fox, “Weren’t you working at Hundred Herbs Hall, Third Sister? Why did you come out to look for me?”
“Third Sister missed you, so I handed over Hundred Herbs Hall, to other clan members and came out alone, to find you,” the white fox said slowly. “Mother and Father have approved it. They said, they’ve come to understand that staying in the clan would only bring you suffering, so it’s better to find another place and not return home, With Third Sister taking care of you, they… they can rest assured.”
Having just undergone surgery, she lacked strength. Speaking too much made her breathing rapid, and the monitoring equipment beside her began beeping.
“Third Sister, don’t worry! I’m fine, I’m doing very well here!” Ming Ying said urgently. “No evil spirits are chasing me, and there are people who take good care of me!”
She pulled Fu Anyu closer, forcing a smile. “Third Sister, this is Fu Anyu. She’s my… my nominal older sister in the human world. She’s always taken care of me, and I really like her.”
“Thank you for taking care of Yingying all this time… cough…” the white fox said to Fu Anyu before starting to cough.
“Third Sister!” Ming Ying panicked. Just as she was at a loss, He Che pushed the door open, carrying a syringe and medicine bottle.
He Che glanced at the instrument, her brow furrowing. She set down the syringe and medicine bottle, her expression stern as she waved her hand to shoo them away. “The patient needs rest. Come back in three days.”
“I’m sorry, I’m sorry! We’ll leave right away!” Ming Ying apologized repeatedly before turning to the white fox. “Third Sister, I have to go now. Rest well here with Dr. He. Dr. He… she’s a very good person. Whenever I was injured, she treated me, so you should feel at ease here too.”
To reassure her sister, Ming Ying had no choice but to say things she didn’t truly mean, praising He Che.
The white fox didn’t insist on keeping her, especially since she was genuinely weak. Seeing that her little sister was safe and sound, she relaxed and curled her fox paws. But the next moment, her gaze shifted to Fu Anyu.
“You seem to have something to say to me?” Fu Anyu asked tentatively as their eyes met.
The white fox nodded and said softly to Ming Ying, “Yingying, Third Sister would like you and Miss He to step aside for a moment.”
Ming Ying quickly ushered He Che out of the room and closed the door tightly.
Fu Anyu sat by the bedside. Though her expression remained calm, she was extremely nervous inside.
After all, this was the little fox’s family, and her most doting third sister, at that.
She inexplicably felt as if she were meeting the parents.
Seeing the white fox in pain, Fu Anyu instinctively reached out, channeling her spiritual energy into the fox from a distance.
Her “demon furnace” constitution was specifically designed to supply spiritual energy to demons. In just a few seconds, the white fox felt strength returning to her body.
As a well-read medical cultivator, the white fox naturally understood what this meant and looked at Fu Anyu in astonishment. “Thank you, Lady Fu.”
“Just call me Fu Anyu,” Fu Anyu interrupted. “This is the human realm, and the rules here are different from the demon realm. There’s no need for formalities with me.”
The white fox adjusted her position slightly, trying her best to sit up, then said softly to Fu Anyu, “Miss Fu, my name is Su Jinhua, Yingying’s third sister. I heard from Miss He that you’re helping Yingying find the entrance to the demon realm?”
With her strength restored, her voice no longer sounded as weak.
Fu Anyu nodded.
“Thank you for your kindness, but there’s no need to search anymore.” Su Jinhua shook her head, her voice suddenly choked with emotion. “The royal city of the nine-tailed fox clan, was destroyed half a month ago.”
Fu Anyu froze, blurting out, “But Ming Ying only came to the human realm half a month ago.”
“Perhaps time flows differently between the two realms,” Su Jinhua said with a bitter smile. “To you, she’s only been here half a month, but to us, she’s been missing for fifteen years.”
Seeing Fu Anyu fall silent, she continued on her own, “Please, you must keep this a secret. Everything I just said was a lie to Yingying. She was pampered and sheltered growing up, naive and innocent, unaware of the world’s harshness. She doesn’t need to know such cruel truths. Even if she did, it would be meaningless now. It’s better to let her hold onto some hope, so she can continue living carefree here.”
Fu Anyu didn’t know how to respond. She had only ever considered how difficult it would be to find the entrance to the demon realm and how long it might take for the little fox to return home. Never had she imagined that the little fox no longer had a home to return to.
And now, the little fox’s only surviving family member was asking her to keep it a secret.
After a moment’s thought, she agreed. “I understand. I’ll definitely keep it a secret.”
Five years ago, she had also been a carefree “child.” A car accident took both her parents, forcing her to grow up overnight. Apart from friends like Hu Xiuliu, He Che, and Chen Yanxue, she had no one else in this world to rely on.
Now, the little fox still had her, and she had an older sister who had crossed into the human realm by accident. Even though she knew the little fox would eventually grow up, she still wanted to shield her a little longer.
“Thank you for your trouble,” Su Jinhua said gratefully, opening her mouth to speak again but interrupted by a violent coughing fit.
Fu Anyu quickly channeled spiritual energy to her. “Don’t speak for now! Listen to Yingying and focus on recovering. I’ll bring her to visit you again in a while.”
In her haste, she didn’t realize that her way of referring to Ming Ying had already been influenced by Su Jinhua.
Su Jinhua caught her breath and responded with an “Okay,” her gaze lingering on Fu Anyu.
“Miss Fu, you carry Yingying’s scent all over you,” she suddenly remarked. “Has Yingying cultivated with you?”
Caught off guard, Fu Anyu hurriedly shook her head and explained, “No, we only-”
But her words were cut off by Su Jinxian. “It’s fine. You are the one Yingying has chosen. Even if you are a woman, as long as you take good care of Yingying, that’s enough.”
Fu Anyu blushed, her sharp tongue that could silence everyone in a boardroom now rendered speechless.
Though she still had many questions for Su Jinhua, Fu Anyu quickly bid farewell under the pretext of not disturbing her recovery and immediately took Ming Ying away from the hospital.
“Sister, I’m still so sad,” Ming Ying murmured in the car, leaning against Fu Anyu and instinctively placing the tissue box within reach. “Third Sister was so badly injured, all to find me.”
Fu Anyu thought to herself that it wasn’t exactly the case, Su Jinhua’s fatal injuries were likely sustained while defending the city. But she had promised Su Jinhua to keep it a secret, so she stroked Ming Ying’s hair and comforted her, “But we’ve found your third sister now, and Dr. He will treat her with the best medicine.”
She paused, hearing the little fox’s sobs, and added, “Since Third Sister went to such lengths to find you, you must listen to her.”
Don’t keep longing to go home.
Ming Ying nodded repeatedly, wiping her tears as she said, “I’ll listen, I’ll definitely listen to Third Sister, I won’t think about home I’ll just stay here obediently.”
She cried for a while longer until they returned home. Seeing the familiar surroundings, she seemed a bit lost.
Fu Anyu changed her shoes and, noticing Ming Ying still standing dazedly at the door, couldn’t help but ask, “Why aren’t you coming in?”
Ming Ying was silent for a few seconds before bending down to take off her shoes.
“Sister, I think, because I was so determined to leave home, my parents might have disowned me.” she said softly, slowly changing her shoes, not wanting Fu Anyu to see her expression. “Third Sister probably, she isn’t of the nine-tailed bloodline. She’s an orphan from the Snow Fox Clan entrusted to Mother.”
“But our clan has always been exclusionary. Even though Third Sister worked at the Hundred Herbs Hall and was the chief physician there… she probably didn’t have an easy life. My parents allowed her to come find me, perhaps… perhaps because she isn’t a fox from our own clan.”
Fu Anyu, who knew the truth, simply listened. When Ming Ying straightened up, she pulled her into an embrace.
“I have no home anymore, sister.” Ming Ying sobbed in her embrace, her heart feeling hollow and desolate. “No home at all.”
Fu Anyu truly hadn’t expected the little fox to think this way. The cruelest irony was that she genuinely had nowhere to return to now.
Su Jinhua had said the Nine-Tailed Fox royal city no longer existed, meaning the clan had either been massacred or fallen in battle.
After a silent sigh in her heart, Fu Anyu gently stroked Ming Ying’s drooping fox ears and said, “This place will always be your home.”
“And I will always be your family.”
